Negative experience: The office is ok, but the dentist not so much! I felt he is more interested in money than my care!

Fantastic experience: I had the best experience! I was in need of a new dentist due to some price gouging after my switch to private insurance and I reached out after seeing a discount for Invisalign. They had a cancellation and were able to get me in same day as a new patient. Not only did they do my exam but found the time to provide a thorough cleaning, filling, and complete all my scans and photos for Invisalign. I have wanted to straighten my teeth since I was a child and could not be more happy with the services provided. Every person I met was friendly, professional, and went above and beyond

Fantastic experience: Dr. Hallock is an amazing dentist and even better person. I had never seen a dentist before coming to him and didn’t know what to expect. Long story short, I was/am a lousy patient! I don’t like having someone spelunking around in my mouth, I gag easy and am generally a big baby. Dr Hallock has been nothing short of graceful and extremely patient with me. He has went out of his way to make me comfortable and has done some work at a lesser price than he should and some things at no cost. I am needing to purchase a second set of braces (because of a poor decision I made) and even though it had nothing to do with him he offered to give me a discount on that too, just because that is who he is. I have referred several people to him and will happily continue to do so.

Fantastic experience: The best Dentist office around! Everyone I've interacted with at this office have always been welcoming. They took me in same day and actually worked afterhours when I had a painful toothache. I'm thankful to have a great dentist right around the corner!

Negative experience: I went in to see if they were accepting new patients & the receptionist had me sit & wait until she finished putting insurance in on another patient. Really!!! Rude, I won't even bother making appointment there. I sat long enough to read a small chaperone in a book.

Positive experience: Recently I had emergency service here, I cracked a tooth eating popcorn. The staff were kind and efficient, the dentist took special care to make me comfortable. When i went back to have the permanent cap installed, getting the temporary out was challenging but once out the cap fit perfect. Followup care education could have better i.e. rinsing with warm salt water. Overall I am very satisfied and would consider becoming a regular patient. Wait time was short, facility is clean, staff is polite, office and treatment rooms are modern and well appointed. Prices are comparable although towards the high end.

Negative experience: Every time I try to like this place, I can’t. They called me to reschedule my appt because they can’t seem to keep employees and they are always short handed. They wanted me to wait 6 months! And they didn’t offer to put me on a waiting list. I stopped going here for a period of time because of this but reluctantly decided to come back as the other dentist I went to stopped taking insurance. Even though Wilmington Family Dental still has me in their system as an active patient, I am again supposed to wait months and now they want me to come in for 2 separate appointments because I haven’t been there in a while. I can’t even get my teeth cleaned without coming to an appointment first. I asked what do they do at this special appointment? I was told- the same things they do at a regular cleaning appointment (minus the actual cleaning). Guess they need to get that money from me that they missed out on over the last 1-2 years. If they are so busy and booking out that far, maybe stop scheduling extra, useless appointments. What a waste of time and money. Side note- the staff is rarely friendly, and I think that tone is set from the top. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to get your dental care.

Fantastic experience: Great Office! Efficient Dental Work and Genuine, Caring Staff!

Negative experience: YOU MUST AGREE TO PAY THEIR LEGAL FEES IF THEY SUE YOU TO COLLECT MONEY. I called these people to schedule an appointment since people I know said that Dr. Hallock was an okay dentist, although not terribly friendly. After a very unusual amount of health questions and completing the scheduling and everything, a good while, only after all of that was I notified that a $50 deposit was required to reserve the dentist's time. I should have been told this much sooner, it's a bit of a bait and switch, you get me invested and then add on the oh by the way there's this fee. I have never been asked so many health questions before any appointment, much less a dentist and never been asked to make a deposit by phone. Well, I found out why a short time later. They emailed me the paperwork to complete and bring with me. One of the mandatory forms requires you to agree to pay all of their lawyer and legal fees if they sue you to collect money that they feel you owe them. That is ludicrous and I also should have been told this prior to collecting a deposit, as this changed the terms. Also included in the mandatory paperwork was a privacy notice that had to be signed. If you unchecked the "I agree" box it says please check the box, this is required to continue. A few lines up it literally says you cannot be denied due to refusal to sign this form, unless (something about contacts which did not apply to me). The problem is, you CANNOT continue unless you sign. This is contradictory and also a privacy act violation. I haven't decided yet whether to complete the report to the government I started, as I fear retaliation. (you have to list all your personal information to file the complaint sadly.) This unprofessional practice collected a deposit from me, then changed the terms by requiring me to sign an agreement to pay their legal fees. Since I didnt want to agree to their adjusted terms, they effectively defaulted on the agreement, but OF COURSE KEPT MY DEPOSIT. For personal reasons I chose not to make a stink about their incredibly unprofessional and dishonest behavior and swindling. They can count themselves lucky that all they are getting is this honest and negative review.

Starting with Dr. Hallock who has a wonderful disposition with a gentle delivery, Tabitha being the sweetest receptionist, Nina and her understanding way of explaining insurance benefits, Tanisha is a thorough dental hygienist with a fun, upbeat personality and Tyra the girl who stole my heart with our connection. So thankful we found this office and looking forward to having our 3 children become patients as well. Crazy but the first time I have ever said, I am looking forward my next dental visit.

Fantastic experience: I can tell you that this Dentist and his staff are the absolute best Dental office I have ever been too. He is professional, intelligent, and Never talks down to you. He has been so kind to me and so understanding to my age and talked extensively about what I need and what He can do. I am 67 and yes I would love to have top of the line everything but He explained that it wasn’t necessary and he is going to do what I need and that my smile will be beautiful again, And I will be able to pay my bills and keep the roof over my head. His staff from the receptionist who greets you with a sweet smile and remembered me from my first visit. The staff in the back are so good at what they do and treat you with care and professionalism. The Doctor while talking to me is also explaining what he is doing to his assistant. It is amazing how good this practice is considering most practices now are not very welcoming and overwhelmed because they need more help and the doctors are obviously oblivious what their staff is doing in an 8hour day, let alone giving the patients the real good care they deserve to have. I would go on but I just have to say I am telling everyone I know to go to this Dentist and feel the care as soon as you enter the door.

Fantastic experience: First Visit: Everyone was so nice and sweet. It was my first time at Wilmington Family Dental. In fact it's been a long time since I've been to any Dentist at least ten years. My previous Dentist passed away and loved that group. I never thought could feel comfortable again, till now. I felt like I was at my old Dental Group ( so comfortable and at ease ) It was only my first visit, but first impressions mean everything to me. I love how great they were with me. I felt so at ease and comfortable. And all the new updated Dental care is used. Not the old painful dental treatments that make you afraid to go. I would recommend you giving them a try. I will update as soon as I get my dental work completed. Patty, ..... Dayton Ohio Second Visit: I've been to the Wilmington Family Dental a total of three times. The second time was in September 2024 when I needed a tooth pulled in the upper right corner of my mouth. It was hurting me so bad. Needed it pulled before a surgery I was having in a couple of weeks. [ I was having my total overgrown Thyroid removed from both sides.] They are the Best at Wilmington Family Dental. They place numbing gel on your gums before they finish numbing you with the needles. I didn't feel a thing ,they pulled my tooth with no problem and no pain. Third Visit : Now in October 2024 after the healing from my surgery. I went back to get measured for my Dentures. The problem my mouth is small and they couldn't get my mouth measured for the Dentures. I have extra skin inside my mouth which is tight and won't stretch. Plus have bone that needs to get corrected by an oral surgeon. So I was referred to an Oral Surgeon to go too. Once I get this issue fixed. I can get the measurements done for my Dentures. Everyone is so nice there and do such a great job. If you're reading my review then I would tell you to go visit and find out for yourself have wonderful Wilmington Family Dental services are. You'll not regret it. I promise !

From the very first visit, I was always made to feel important, welcomed, and always given the security that we’ll figure out what’s going on and fix it! I had several painful procedures done, and they just did everything they could to make me feel at ease. I brought my husband over to the practice and he feels the same way about it. Dr Hallock and all the staff are amazing!!

Positive experience: Does anyone enjoy going to the dentist? Nobody I’ve ever met. That said, Dr Hallock & the staff at Wilmington Family are wonderful. They care for you and your teeth, while turning the entire terrifying dental experience to an enjoyable one. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better dentist and staff in the local area.

Fantastic experience: As a new and Non-White patient I was apprehensive about how I might be received at first sight. The receptionist Faith and Dental Assistant Trisha (sp?) and a couple of minority patients in the waiting room calmed my fears. Dental x-ray was easygoing. Diagnosis was depressing but I accept full responsibility for it. I neglected dental hygiene over the years. So now I have to get dentures and don’t understand the fitting and physical process.

I also typically have a hard time getting appropriately numbed when I see the dentist, and he numbed me so good I couldn’t feel one side of my nose! Totally quick and painless. Fantastic experience: Excellent dentist and staff. They are wonderful at educating and answering questions. Relaxed atmosphere. Take care of your oral hygiene. They can tell when you don’t. Even if you do a really good job on the day of your appointment. Your body will tell on you, lol. Your oral health is closely linked to your whole body’s health. I think it’s great when a healthcare team works as well as this team does at caring for and educating its clients. Negative experience: This is long but there are two separate events that determined my decision to find a new provider. I don’t write reviews often let alone negative ones however this needs said. I was a patient for a few years until today. My sons appointment I had on the books for over six months was rescheduled the week before his appointment date. That was no big deal however the initial statement made was it was canceled because I didn’t confirm. Fortunately I have that record and they changed their reasoning to lack of staff. Being a provider and in healthcare myself I can totally understand that. Moving forward a week, I called to verify the date and time of his new appointment in October. I had the date in my phone but I didn’t log a time. I was then told I had a $45 fee to re-schedule because the appointment was apparently today. I have a different date on my calendar. I want to point out that I can understand this occurring in a normal situation but this was not a normal situation. I was at work when I rescheduled this and they were confused from the beginning on why they were even rescheduling his appointment. I may not work for my own practice or private practice and I’m sure things run differently, however I understand how things work in the outpatient setting within my own patients. I would never think to do this to people. I understand life happens and this appeared to be confusion on their end from the beginning so naturally I was a little irritated. We all know how long it takes to get into the dentist so I try to be proactive about those appointments. I also want to leave one last thought because this made me feel really bad when I left my own appointment last week. Dr. Hallock briefly looked during my exam which was fine as no news is good news, however he proceeded to make comments about assumed cosmetic work I had done. For context I was telling the hygienist if she sees “movement” in my teeth not to be alarmed as I am finishing up mild adjustments with nighttime aligners so a degree of movement is expected. That said Dr. Hallock looked at me and clearly didn’t understand what I was saying but proceeded to tell me “lip fillers can cause movement to teeth because of pressure.” I was caught off guard and laughed it off in the moment and said oh I do get Botox but that’s not the same thing. He then said Botox can cause those problems as well and for a third time I had to say I was speaking in reference to my nighttime aligners not my appearance. Mind you he is the one who told me about the movement thing six months ago because my hygienist at the time asked why she was seeing movement. Anyways .. Never assume things about people and if you do at least know what you’re talking about. Many dentists actually administer Botox for symptom management / treatment of certain disorders. For further context I work with patients in a surgical setting with an attending who is a plastic surgeon so my knowledge base regarding those things isn’t of the typical person sitting in that chair. The bigger point is no one especially a women should leave a male medical provider feeling embarrassed. Furthermore the medical provider should have an actual understanding of how certain things work before giving patients such strong opinion. This isn’t meant to take away from the positive experiences I’ve had here in the past. This is more so because I am disappointed in how I felt I was treated and doing bad business with long-term patients or anyone for that matter. A dentist is someone you see twice a year so don’t let my experience deter you because I know how hard it is to get into a practice and start all over as I am having to now. I just believe if people remain quiet about their experiences and never voice concerns change will never happen. Thank you..

Fantastic experience: We have been using Wilmington Family Dental for years. The staff is professional and personable. Dr. Hallock is caring and compassionate towards patients that ate terrified by dental work. I have had to have a couple of root canals, and also an extraction (not root canal teeth, from be my previous dentist), he was gentle and professional. Love Dr. Hallock and his staff. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: The upper denture made for my husband might has well of been made blind instead of through impressions, the teeth are too small, the gum mould is too deep, and they have had to build up very think softlines to make them even somewhat functional. This was only one portion of what was in the end so many issues from this office we had to part ways and move to another dentist for continued care - the dentist did not relay necessary information ahead of the extraction to allow for an easier numbing and extraction process. It was felt due to the known periodontal disease and the lack of communication ahead of time to start antibiotics prior to the surgery date. It was very traumatic, teeth fragments were left in the gum and they remain there as has been shown on follow up x-rays at our new dentist office. Communication on follow up treatment plans was not relayed well and only communicated through an emailed estimate of further treatment, which was requiring lower teeth extraction that was not needed upon further evaluation and secondary opinions. Please make sure anything permanent you are considering with this dentistry office is confirmed as the necessary path to treatment by at least one other third party dentistry office. The consultation will be well worth the effort. I'd warn away everyone from treatment here because of the communication and damage done to my spouse.

Negative experience: I visited Wilmington Family Dental on Thursday September 8th at 12:30pm and I will not be returning or recommending them to anybody. When you think about going to a new dentist office, you think warm and inviting, even friendly-- not the case here. First, I got there 25 min.s early to do new patient paperwork and then they had me wait an additional 15 min.s before even seeing anybody. They took new x-rays and pic.s and then they did "periodontal charting" and if you don't know what that is, it's where they stab you multiple times throughout your gums. They spent more time discussing and trying to make me buy silly additional things than cleaning my teeth. They wanted me to pay out of pocket for a $550 retainer, which I don't need. I had braces in school, and I got a retainer for that anyways -- paying $500+ for another retainer is ridiculous. Not only did they try to scam me into buying unnecessary items, but they backhandedly kept making rude comments about my previous dentist, whom I went to for 21 years and my previous orthodontist. And during all this conversating, their tone and demeanor was very condescending, as if I couldn't piece together basic information. Dr. Hallock did not only waste my time but was also very snappy as the lady who cleaned my teeth, which isn't very nice or professional. My teeth are straight, white and clean and yet they wanted me to come in 3-4 times a year, which of course wouldn't be covered by insurance. I left at 1:50pm, and the cleaning part only took 10 min.s, waste of time and PTO. They're not trying to "help" you, they're using manipulation tactics to try and get your hard-earned money. Don't go here unless you want to get scammed because they will do everything to try and milk you for your money!

Fantastic experience: I had an unexpected emergency dental problem I came in and they were able to see me the same day I was so thankful for there kind staff and there flexibility.

Fantastic experience: I'm a veteran with a LOT of anxiety. I let them know in advance and received the most compassionate, patient, and kind people I have ever had going to the dentist. I have always known that those with mental health challenges often have dental challenges. I never once felt judged nor did anyone give of an air of superiority. Thank you for making the experience less terrifying that what I was anticipating!

Negative experience: I go in for my appointment and I was 13 minutes late they told me I had to reschedule. Then I get text telling me I have to pay $45 to reschedule for no call no show, this how you treat your repeat customers? I sit in lobby wait patiently for my appointment in the past, usually 10-15 minutes wait from appointment time now you cant see me. Terrible service Reply: You should show that same courteous and respect when I have to wait in lobby 10-15 minutes in the past but good luck have great day.
