Fantastic experience: Both of my kids started coming here since their very first dental exam. All of the dentists and dental hygienists are excellent. The office staff are also very helpful. Had billing issues in the past with dual coverage, but it has resolved. The revised process is now seamless.

Fantastic experience: I love this place. We were going to a different dentist in the past and I just didn’t really feel comfortable with how they were running their clinic. From the first second we entered everyone was extremely nice. The office was super cute and my three-year-old daughter was actually excited to be there because everyone just treated her like a total princess. The doctor was very knowledgeable and I am so happy that I have found them.

Fantastic experience: Awesome care team

Negative experience: The dentists and staff seem competent and have a good demeanor with children. However, the expense and billing headaches make going to Aloha not worthwhile. Aloha is out of network with all insurance providers, they balance bill, and they require full payment at the time of service, even if some of the cost will end up being covered by insurance. What these three things mean in practice is that you will pay for a higher percentage of the cost of the appointment than your out of network rate would suggest, and that you have a lot of extra administrative paperwork to do, especially if you use an HSA. Insurance companies have a usual and customary rate for procedures like cleaning and fillings, and the insurance company covers a percentage of the UCR (which is lower for out of network providers). However, Aloha also bills the difference between what they charge and the UCR to you, which is balance billing and is generally illegal in California (although not in their case, since they are out of network with all providers). Also, since they require full payment at the time of service, if your insurance later ends up covering part of the cost of your appointment, you will receive a reimbursement check directly from your insurance company. If you have an HSA, and used it to pay at the time of service, then your initial payment will be need to be re-classified as an "erroneous distribution" by your HSA administrator, and you will need to figure out how to deposit the paper check from the insurance company to your HSA account (often challenging) in order to avoid federal taxes and penalties. It is a lot of hassle and expense for the patients, all so that they can make a few extra dollars.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best dental practice ever. Such patient and kind staff, and dentist. I am grateful beyond words for this practice. My son has been going here for years, and he is a challenging patient. And the care and kindness is abundant. Thank you, Dr. Katsura and Aloha, from the bottom of my heart.

Fantastic experience: We love Aloha Pediatric Dentistry! the team is amazing starting with the schedulers, the hygienists, the insurance team, and the top notch dentists. We never feel that we are being oversold on anything. Our kids have been well cared for over the years. Dr. Miyahara is a gem!

My daughter, who initially was anxious felt at ease very quickly. The nurse who initially assessed her was so calm and just knew how to talk to her that my daughter was chatting away with her rest of her visit. And finally, the doctor was amazing. I could not recommend them more. We will be regular customers for sure.

Fantastic experience: The specialty pediatrics Doctors (Dentist's ) at Aloha are superior and very welcoming. It was my son (2 year old) first visit with the dental office. My questions and concerns about my two year old dental health did not go unanswered. Aloha dentistry knows the right techniques to help parents calm down antsy children. I was very happy and we will become regular patients. Great job, great staff highly recommend.

She is very prone to cavities so has had a lot of work done here and still loves to go! The best staff all around - from the front desk to dental hygenists to Dr. Arnold himself.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Ruehe is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist - but what really matters is that she is AMAZING with our kids - They love going to get work done(!?!), and never have any hesitation with any of the procedures or checkups. The front office staff are great as well - they walk through billing, what was done, and appointment setting calmly and never rushing. Glad we found this team!

When I first was seeking pediatric care, some practices preferred gas sedation for my toddler. Not so here, where they let the kids relax and see that there is nothing to fear from a visit to the dentist!

We've been coming with both our toddlers for all their check visits twice a year, and always have the best experience (not easy with children 1 to 4 years old, like ours). Doctor Amita Ruehe is magical, she's always prioritizes that our children enjoy the visit and that they look forward to coming back and to taking care of their teeth. She is very generous with her time and will engage with the little ones in such a loving way. The whole team is amazing and very professional, and their newly renovated office in North Berkeley is fabulous. We are so happy that our pediatrician recommended this practice, and will recommend it to all parents. Worry no more about bringing your toddler to the dentist!

Fantastic experience: We are new to Aloha but really blown away by the warmth and competence of Dr Khosrovani and her team, the kid-centeredness of the whole experience. My 7 year old son just had a filling done and when he emerged from his seat, I was worried that he would complain of the discomfort of the procedure or tastes he didn't like. But on the contrary, he only seemed absolutely delighted that he had received a (sugarfree) lollipop, had been able to watch a video during the procedure and got to pick two gifts. On the car drive home he volunteered that he liked Aloha and in fact would recommend it. I honestly don't think he's ever said this about anything before -- so the fact that he said it following a filling appointment (!) was remarkable. Now his brother wants to have a filling appointment too! :) A big thank you to the Aloha North Berkeley crew for such a positive experience.

Even when my daughter recently had to get a cavity filled, and was feeling nervous, and I can't say enough about how the team explained everything, showed her the gadgets, and... most importantly they made sure that SHE was ok the entire time, checking in with her, not rushing her, etc. Such an amazing environment.

My daughter has had two dental visits at both locations in Berkeley. The facilities are modern and clean. The staff are friendly and really know how to interact with children. They even sang Itsy Bitsy Spider to my daughter. The two dentists she's seen were profressional and did a great job; they provided me with tips that I implementing immediately.
