I like total health dentist and like this Pill Hill location very much. More than the Alameda location, and I live in Alameda! Fantastic experience: Okay so I originally came to Total Health b/c I had 2 teeth pulled when I was 15, and then when I was 29-30 I decided to have the teeth replaced with implants. Most of that work was done at the Broadway office, but the Webster St office is my "home office". I already wrote a review on Yelp singing the praises of the team who helped me replace my missing teeth (THANK YOU DR. CONNORS!!!), so I wanted to review this specific office as well b/c they are truly so amazing. To begin with, Dr Walker (now retired) was my first dentist at this office. She was SO sweet and so gentle. Now I work with Dr. Sanchez, and he is also AMAZING. I also want to give a shout out to the reception at this office. I have mostly dealt with the young man who works there (I think his name is Christian, but if I'm wrong I'm so sorry!!). Anyway, that guy rocks, I love him. I would (and have) definitely recommended Total Health to everyone I know in the Bay Area looking for a solid dental practice, and I'll forever be grateful for the care and superior service I have received here. Keep killin it, THD!!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Lavorini and Kamina were two of the nicest, most knowledgeable and talented dental specialists I have ever encountered. I have to say I really enjoyed my root canal procedure and felt relaxed and happy throughout. The Nitrous Oxide was only part of the reason. 4 Stars!!

Fantastic experience: Love the whole staff! I actually like going to the dentist when I come here. Everyone is friendly, easy to talk to and doesn’t make you feel like you’re awful if you forget to floss once or twice.

Positive experience: They want the money up front. Even when you have insurance. They then bill the insurance and expect for you to follow up and email their billing office in order to get reimbursed. This is very frustrating .it should be the other way around. The insurance should be billed first and the client should be billed the difference. If you are not careful, they ended up getting paid twice.

Fantastic experience: Ive never had a great experience with the dentist office but this clinic is amazing and i definitely recommended them for adults &kids. The gentalmen that was at the front desk was super nice and was very helpful with checking in. The dental assistant and dentist was also kind and very considerate that my child was alil scared.

Positive experience: Update: After I advocated for myself, They refunded me 15% and are on top of helping me heal now. I spoke with the Grand ave manager about a discount for the root canal. She said she would get back to me but she didn’t reach out to me before leaving on vacation. I asked for a discount on the root canal because Dr. Sanchez mentioned that they could have done a deep treatment to the tooth if it had been treated sooner. I saw him, Dr. Shah and Dr. Joyce. I have been to total dental 6 times since October 2023 for this tooth and other reasons. I feel a root canal could have been prevented. A filling, crown and root canal costed me over $4500. I invested so much money and time and energy. I feel that one of these three dentists could have offered me a preventative treatment sooner. The manager didn’t give me a discount and did not reply to my emails. The root canal specialist was kind and helpful but she had to go through the crown so hopefully they don’t tell me that I need a new crown to seal the root canal. I felt like they could have saved me money if they really wanted to. Oh and the membership did not save me much so make sure you read the fine print and make sure you tell them to take off the auto renewal.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Total Health Dental for almost a year. The dental team and staff are the absolute best! I have seen vast improvements in my dental health since coming here. I would highly recommend Total Health Dental to anyone looking for exceptional dental care with affordable payment options.

Fantastic experience: I have been coming here for 2 years and happy that I find dental care I can trust. The staff always greets me warmly and they really care about their patients.

Positive experience: Updated my review to 3 stars because the quality of care has gone downhill in the ~5 years I’ve gone here. The staff is great at customer service but other than the staff’s friendliness I have no reason to go back. I got a lot of work done at THD and in the beginning it was all good until they changed management or ownership or something and it started to feel like a con and a blatant money grab. One of the main things that was a red flag was they told me I would need to have a filling removed/redone and would probably have to get a root canal. And then immediately tried to get me to sign a contract to have it done, which by the way would have cost me over 1k out of pocket. I was about to do it because their tactic is to make it seem pretty urgent and offer a discount if you pay for it right away. But I decided to get a second opinion because usually when I have a dental issue they can show me evidence (usually on the X-rays) of there being an issue. This was not the case here, so I went and paid out of pocket for exams from 2 other dentists (1 with new full X-rays) and the other dentists told me they couldn’t find any reason whatsoever why a root canal would be needed. Not even the slightest indication that would be necessary. From that point on I was done with THD because all trust was lost. I got Invisalign done here and the service was subpar in my opinion. I had Invisalign before so I’m comparing it to the level of care I got at the last place where I felt like the dentist really cared deeply about me and the results. Here at THD I felt like they were just churning out patients as fast as possible. I will say I was not feeling this way before Dr. Rocha left –she was great. Btw my last dentist included a whitening at the end of my treatment with the custom trays and opalescence. That is not offered here.

Negative experience: DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. The worst dental service and care I have ever had in my life. My experience at this location was pretty bad, the guy pretends like dentist have no care for the patient in his mind but care for money. To me, all staff members are the same as well. Go other places, there are bunch of other good dentists in Bay Area! You don’t wanna pick the worst dental clinic to take care of your dental issues.

Negative experience: If you want impersonal care, come on in. You rarely see the same people, they’re like rotating and patients are like on a conveyer belt . I recently made an appointment for Cleaning only. I clarified it twice with them on the phone that was coming in for Cleaning only. When I came in the hygienist immediately said we’re going to take some x-rays. I again clarified that this was not the appointment I requested. She said well we have plenty of time and we haven’t had your x-rays for a while. Even though I didn’t want to do this, I agreed. They did the x-rays and the doctor came in to talk to me and of course they said I need all these things to be done. And after that, the hygienist said we were done even though she didn’t finish the cleaning. I asked, why didn’t you finish it? And she said we have no time. Unbelievable unprofessionalism. Never ever coming back !

Negative experience: I changed my dental health insurance just so I can have access to a dental practice like this. For almost 2 years, I was stuck with bad insurance. I’m so glad I found this place. It reminded me that I used to enjoy going to the dentist! Now, I can get back on track to having healthy teeth! From making the appointment, to getting my X-rays, seeing the general Dentist and getting my teeth cleaned, everything was a breeze. Edit: Triple check they take your insurance for any non-preventative care procedure you might because, depending on who you speak to, you might get misinformed and sent and unexpected bill.

Negative experience: I have had several experiences with this practice that I have felt financially scammed. Weeks before the annual renewal (yesterday) I cancelled all appointments and texted that I would not be continuing. They went ahead and renewed my membership anyway and I will have to dispute the charge with the credit card company since I don’t get any response from their billing company. I had paid a membership for one year at $360. There was a maximum of 1000. Which hardly covers any procedures other than cleanings. .When I was having an expensive crown done I was up offered another plan that would cover my dental work at 50% and wanted to confirm that it could be combined with the membership that I already had. It took a lot of calls to find out that they couldn’t be combined and essentially I would lose the balance I had on the first membership by buying the second one. That is good for them but not for me! I don’t trust them and question whether their recommendations and treatments are financially motivated. They have state of the art equipment but when I wanted to see the crack I was told I had in a molar somehow the camera couldn’t show it. One visit for a cleaning I am told ‘don’t be surprised if we recommend deep cleaning,’ the next time with someone else the hygienist is saying keep doing what you are doing. If I had gum disease I don’t think it goes away that rapidly. When I had an abscesses tooth and repeatedly called for an appointment nobody asked if I was in pain. I want to go back to a dental practice that is not corporate. This establishment feels too slick, up sells and feels impersonal.

Fantastic experience: I started coming here after an implant and they have been super proactive with my care. Saved my implant and treated my sensitive teeth. Getting a night guard in particular has save me from constantly chipping and cracking my teeth, and stop bone loss around my implant. Not to mention all involved are wonderful and caring.

Fantastic experience: I love getting my teeth cleaned here. Feeling so clean! Dr. Sanchez and Nina is the best!

Negative experience: I came in with a chipped tooth, back right bottom molar. GO GET A SECOND OPINION!!!!!! They tried to sell me over $3000 of "care" , lumping an over $1000 "deep clean" after we specifically discussed it and I verbally denied their offer. When the billing estimate was created, they told me to " have the payment ready in full by next appointment" that is , the insisted I have over 3400 dollars ready in about a weeks time. There was zero offer of any payment plan, and then stated that the billing estimate could be widely off due to their process. Their level of disregard for the conversations we had was so disrespectful. It was clear I was more of a payday than a patient.

Fantastic experience: I am very happy with this Clinique, Nina is a wonderful dental hygienist and all the doctors have been amazing. Super happy with their service and care.

Fantastic experience: I’ve avoided dentists for years because every time I went I had horrible experiences that ended in trauma. However, I’m glad that I found this place! The care they provided me and worked with me on my dental trauma made me very comfortable. I went from avoiding the dentist at all costs to looking FORWARD to my appointments and keeping up with my dental health. TLDR: I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Especially the location on Webster Street!

Fantastic experience: Had a nasty chipped tooth and they were able to fit me in first thing in the morning! Crazy fast service, and so very helpful and kind!

Negative experience: Virtually no transparency in pricing and generally aloof staff. I went in to have a chipped tooth evaluated and repaired – I've had chips repaired before in recent years and this office tried to charge nearly double what I've paid previously. When I asked for an explanation of benefits, I was presented with blank stares. My insurance is very comprehensive and the fact that I couldn't get a breakdown of pricing is extremely suspicious. Not only that, I was left in the exam room fully reclined for nearly a half hour waiting for the service, before even being presented with pricing. I declined the service once I was told the pricing – what a huge waste of time. My take on Total Health Dental Care: you're paying a lot for technology, branding and 'same day scheduling' functionality (which doesn't work – I tried to schedule a same-day appointment with any of their locations through the online portal AND through their general call line, both of which were dead ends.)

Fantastic experience: I love Total Health Dental Care! End of 2022, I got my wisdom teeth removed at their main location at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza in Downtown Oakland. The initial appointment for evaluating the swelling / infection, booking of the surgery, billing/payments - all of my experiences were super smooth. All of their staff from front desk, to customer support on the phone to dentist, dental surgeon, dental hygienist- everyone is very welcoming, knowledgeable and they make you feel at home. I also got a deep cleaning done at their Pill Hill Office with dental hygienist - Janice. She was lovely. Gave me all the information I need to reduce the impacts of gum disease, take better care of my teeth and she was lovely to chat with between the cleaning sessions. Highly recommend Total Health!! Out of all of my doctors in the area, these guys are my favorite.

Fantastic experience: I grew up not having the best dental experiences but at my last 2 visits with THDC it's been nothing but relief. I just had my 1/2 sessions of my deep cleaning and Foram was super helpful and explained everything so well to me. My anxiety went down and she made me feel very comfortable. Negative experience: I used to come here often prior to change in ownership, but I will not any longer. I had an appointment today for cleaning at 340 pm. I receive my x-rays, visit with doctor and cleaning. I’m already home at 443pm. I feel like once they got my credit card information, I was rushed. There was water flying everywhere, I have never had a full cleaning in 20 minutes. I have not been to the dentist since 2019, because of Covid. There’s no way I should be done this fast. I’ve been getting my teeth cleaned since I was 5 years old never ever have I been in an out so quickly! In addition, after the cleaning of only 20 minutes, (for $350) I was told that I needed a deep cleaning (for $1500). I wish Dr. Steeb was still in practice that’s who I started with. I have to find another dentist now.

Fantastic experience: Everyone was so nice and helpful. My teeth are a hot mess and they don’t make me feel bad or judged about it. They let me know what to expect throughout the whole process and I never felt rushed when asking questions.

Positive experience: So far so good! Friendly staff, and feels nice to have 1 main doctor. Dr Sanchez explains procedures thoroughly and makes you feel that he’s your only patient. I went in for a filling and it was really a seamless and painless experience. The only thing I don’t like is the $50 charge for canceling apts. doesn’t make it feel real “homey”. I followed up but haven’t heard back yet if it can get waived.

Negative experience: THD used to be great. Their new Silicon Valley version of dental is a huge downgrade. Instead of forming a relationship with your dentist and hygienist, they pipe you through a system, and you meet with a dentist via an app on your phone, and the dentist only views pictures of your teeth. If this system meant more efficient service at a lower cost, maybe I’d be open to it. Instead, they keep raising prices and shuffling me around to new offices. It’s impersonal and expensive.

Positive experience: Had an early 9am appt. How can this office not have any validation stickers left. Very disappointing since I paid $8 to park for 30 mins. Someone needs to make sure this doesn't happen to customers!

I came in for a retainer consultation and even though my teeth were relatively well-aligned, all staff were very good about providing transparent information about that status of my teeth alignment, the positives of each choice and how to make my desicion about what kind of retainer I should choose. I would definitely recommend this office to anyone who wants a full lay-down of their otho health and I will definitely come back for any other related concerns. :)

Fantastic experience: I've been going here since the start of last year. Its been a very pleasant experience ever since. From the front desk all the way to the dentist, everybody is super friendly and willing to work with you every step of the way. Their ability to treat and care for your teeth is also top notch. I've had dentist recommended treatments that weren't warranted in the past, but with total care that is not the case. They have imaging equipment that allows you to see what the dentist is seeing, that way you never have any doubts in their proposed treatments. In my opinion the dentist are pretty gentle and offer aids if you're squeamish about drills and such. I would strongly recommend this place if your looking for a new dentist.

Positive experience: Started going here for Invisalign and ended up switching to them for all my dental needs and have been happy with the service. Their staff are super friendly and I feel well cared for. They use a lot of technology which is cool and fine with me, but might be confusing for someone who isn’t comfortable with smart phones (such as having to talk to a dentist over their mobile app on the first appointment). Sometimes it can be a bit confusing which location you are going to and not having the same services at different locations, but it’s all been pretty convenient in Oakland and Berkeley and they are good at reminders. I also found that they have had to reschedule my appointments a few times but I’m always able to be seen relatively quickly so it hasn’t been a big issue.

Fantastic experience: The entire staff is both friendly and efficient. Going to the dentist was always a stressful experience before I started going to this office. I actually look forward to my annual cleanings and check-ups now.

Negative experience: If you have jaw problems, get a second opinion before doing an invisalign treatment with them. I went through the treatment and it did not work. My jaw hurts less than before but already moved back to the original position. My teeth are straighter but i had braces before so didn't care to do this again. They also rushed me in and out most visits, over corrected my jaw, then under corrected. One of the doctors 100% was taking out my permanent retainer and when I asked why, they told me they would put my permanent retainer back in after the treatment. Now they say that was not in the contract. It seems like the doctors do not communicate with the other doctors and front desk sometimes. READ YOUR CONTRACTS THOROUGHLY. Staff is nice overall.
