Fantastic experience: Wonderful staff! From the reception team, my technician Jennifer to my dentist, I had kind and professional service from all of them . A clean and open space in a historic building also made it pleasant but the staff and good service is the reason I’ll keep coming back

Fantastic experience: Yesterday was my first visit to Total Health Dental Care, and I was honestly a little nervous and embarrassed about the condition of my teeth—and the fact that I still had my braces on. I didn’t know what to expect, but the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by an amazing receptionist who instantly made me feel comfortable and right at home. I was then welcomed by another wonderful woman who took my X-rays. She was so kind and personable—it felt like I had known her forever. She even gave me a neck pillow, which was such a thoughtful touch. I joked that the service was so good I didn’t want to leave! Everything was clearly explained to me, including answers to all my questions and what the next steps would be for my dental care. I may not be great with names, but to the two amazing African-American queens and the dentist—thank you so much for your kindness, professionalism, and making this such a positive experience. I truly appreciate you all.

Positive experience: i’ve been to several of their locations over the last ~7 years, and there are pros and cons. the positives are that there are plenty of competent and thorough hygienists which i appreciate and i’ve trusted a few of the dentists and had good outcomes. my personal cons as follows: they’re pretty aggressive with their overcommunication regarding appointments, while their standard scheduling procedure for exams and cleanings is to auto-schedule your next appt without asking what day and time you’d prefer, which i find odd/inconvenient. i also find their offices pushing/promoting ozempic to be strange, and most of the offices play music at an extreme volume, so between that and a lot of other office commotion it’s a noisy experience. i’m also confused by the woo woo books in their office’s libraries that seem to tout pseudoscience under the guise of holistic care that have little to do with the hard science of dentistry. if you have delta dental, you’ll be expected to get reimbursed by your insurance, rather than their office charging delta directly, so you’ll get a check from delta which their office will then automatically withdraw from your card on file. i’ve also had issues trying to get ahold of/communicate with their billing over the years, and i’m under the impression they outsource some of their reception whom i’ve also had confusing interactions with, as well as a bizarre “virtual assistant” ipad set up at their front desks despite also having actual receptionists, which i am confused by. long story short - i think they are trustworthy with your teeth, but there are some perplexing business practices/choices that come across as a little scammy/chaotic.

Nyesha make sure take special care of us and takes time for every answer every question. And for a family of five that’s a lot of questions. Do you and your family a favor and let them care for you.

From scheduling , the procedure and billing- I always feel important and that my time and teeth matter . I wish that I received this level of customer service everywhere . Positive experience: They are good but too expensive and potentially prescribe services that are not needed in reality. The exam and cleaning felt pretty good. I was especially impressed by the details of imagining. After the exam, they quoted 6 cavity fillings each ~$400 worth + billed over $500 for the exam+cleaning. Definitely on the expensive side. I then went to another dentist who's conclusion was that I do not need any fillings at the moment, and my teeths are in great shape (those "cavities" were explained as stains on the old fillings). Truth or not but it's quite impossible to believe in two polar recommendations of 6 vs 0 cavity fillings.

Fantastic experience: I'm pretty impressed with this office after my first visit. Very reasonable and upfront pricing, and I haven't felt pressured to make any commitments to the care plans they provide although they seem reasonable depending on your situation. I really appreciated Dr. Shah answering my questions and providing clarification on things I didn't understand. Dental hygenist Austin was quick and efficient and has a wonderful bedside manner! Overall this office has exceeded my expectations.

Negative experience: This place overcharges for everything and recommends many unnecessary procedures (like deep cleanings and gum grafts). I went here for several years bc the dentists and hygienists were friendly. Once I visited a smaller dentistry, I realized THDC is all about your money. I even visited a periodontist for gum grafts, and he confirmed that TDHC's procedures were poorly diagnosed and carried out. Steer clear of this business

Negative experience: I've been going to Total Health for many years. The dentist I was seeing (Dr. Lavorini) who recently retired. The "new ownership" feels like a money scam. Rates are much higher & I was prompted to pay $600.00 up front for future dental care. When I had to cancel an appointment for tomorrow due to and ongoing illness, they said they're charging me $50.00 because it wasn't within the "72-hour" window! I'm on a fixed income and can't afford anymore. I'll be going to one more appointment (because of the "up front" fee) and then I'm done with this dental facility. Sad & frustrated.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Total Health Dental Care for over three years, starting when they had an office in San Francisco. Even after that location closed, I continued my visits at their Oakland office. The staff is always super nice and friendly, and Dr. Lin is incredibly professional and attentive. He always makes sure I feel comfortable during each visit. I decided to go with Invisalign, and Dr. Connors, my oral surgeon, had the gentlest hands—it made the whole process much easier. Dr. Caesar was my orthodontist, and honestly, it felt like they were having a party with my teeth! They clearly wanted me to have the best smile possible, and I really appreciate that.

Fantastic experience: Transitioning to this dentist office after moving to Oakland was made smooth (well as smooth as any dentist visit could be) by a very friendly and competent team - from receptionist to dental hygienist (shout out to Austin) to the dentist himself. Fantastic experience: I spent the past 10 years trying to find a modern dentist in Alameda, and after 3 failed fillings, I decided to extend my search into Oakland. I found Total Health Dental Care in Old Oakland (just through the tunnel) and was thrilled with their more advanced equipment/technology and lovely staff. From appointment-setting, xrays, cleaning and the consult with the Dentist...my experience was lovely. I mentioned that I hate to get my mouth propped because of TMJ issues, and they all navigated gently around my request. I'm looking forward to having a regular dentist again!

Fantastic experience: Had an amazing cleaning with Austin today! I hadn't seen him in a year and he remembered every detail about my vacations, my job and my life. He has incredible attention to detail and provides one of the most thorough cleanings I've had. It's clear that he really loves his job.

Negative experience: SCAMMMMMMM!!!!!!! BEWARE!!!!! SUBSCRIPTION TRAP!!!!!!!!!! I came to this establishment about a year ago to get quoted on a how much a wisdom teeth removal was. Before they were able to remove my wisdom teeth they told me I had to sign up for a subscription that was $50 a month. But what they never mentioned was that it was $50 a month, every month for a year. When they first started charging my card they would take the $50 every couple of months on random days whenever they felt like it. You cannot cancel the membership no matter how many times you call them and tell them that this isn’t what you signed up for. I have never even used their services. I paid $50 for absolutely nothing. They still continue to take the money off of my card even after I disputed the charges with my bank. And they sent me a bill in the mail saying I owed them $150 lol. I even got a new card and they still are taking the money off my card.

Negative experience: Felt scammy the moment I walked in. Weird membership plan presented, that actually is more expensive. Nurse was good but Dr Connors very off putting, genuinely a person I do not trust. Got my wisdom teeth removed based on their advice a year ago. When I inquired why during that visit Dr Vashi got visibly uncomfortable trying to explain to me the reasoning, but alas I had to learn the hard way the scam that is wisdom teeth removal, makes my blood boil. Screw this establishment, but also it’s the entire industry. Will not be returning.

Fantastic experience: Austin was very thorough and informative, with an upbeat and encouraging attitude during my cleaning. The office is pleasant and makes use of recent technologies to streamline the visit. Overall I feel that I am in good hands after my first two appointments here. Lastly, they give you a discount for writing a review on Google, which is a practice I don’t want to support as it provides an unfair rating and level of exposure compared to other establishments. They manipulate the rating to look good so they can empty your wallet.

As soon as you come in, such a welcoming environment—Aracely was very helpful in getting me started, Austin did an amazing job making my teeth feel squeaky clean, and Dr. Shaw did amazing in sharing what was needed for my teeth! Negative experience: Terrible experience! I underwent several procedures in 2023 under the care of Dr. Ashish Vashi. The most recent procedure, a crown installation, has resulted in significant pain and discomfort. The tooth remains extremely sensitive, causing headaches and tormenting me at night, even three months after completion. In seeking resolution, I recently had an appointment with Dr. Vashi, who explained that such incidents occasionally occur and recommended a root canal. To my surprise, the quoted cost for the root canal was $1100.00. Despite the evident damage to my tooth as an admitted result of my prior procedure, and after three months of suffering, Dr. Ashish Vashi did not agree to provide any discount. I acknowledge that I signed documents acknowledging the risks of the crown installation. However, it seems unjust to be charged the full cost for damage caused by the procedure, especially after having spent over $6000.00 at your dentistry in 2023. I am now under antibiotic and my tooth will probably need to be removed.

Fantastic experience: Awesome! Austin is such a lovely hygienist and I trust him! The whole crew has been incredible through my dental procedures.

Negative experience: BEWARE. I felt it was a whole scam setup. I called( 2 times) to make sure my doctor/practice/my plan are in network, which they confirmed. Even on the day of my appointment I specifically asked the lady at the front desk and she confirmed I was in network. I got my checkup done. Come to the billing apart, I was handed over an estimate that only covers 20% expenses. I was shocked. I confronted how she confirmed I was in network 30 min ago, and she flat out lied that she did not say that. Additionally , used scare tactic to sell me their annual membership plan ( which is a scam in by itself if you do the math) I got the charges verified coverages by my insurance, turns out they cover 80% and the 20% not covered due to out of network. Truth of the matter is their entire practice is out of network and they played to fall for bait and switch. Shady management but my doctor was great. I hope the doctors realize what the management is doing.

Negative experience: Awful awful these people are money hungry and have zero integrity I went in two months ago for a removal that went fine however after I started having toothaches again. I went in two weeks ago and was told that I needed to have a root canal the dentist knew this without even doing another X-ray that tells me they weren't going to say anything until I experienced pain again. I later found out that the operation would be $3k that's after I already paid them 500$ for the removal they literally knew what was going on and just waited. They knew this was wrong because I didn't show up to the appointment and normally they charge you 50$ but didn't this time so fair warning make sure you tell them to go on full detail otherwise they'll play like everything is ok only to try and charge you for other services. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews I doubt they're actually clients anyway.

Fantastic experience: I had a great visit today!! The front desk woman, Nyasha , is always such a bright face to see! For my cleaning, I had Austin. It was my first time with him and his energy was 10/10. Such a great experience every time I come!
