Our comment from Best Dentists Club about Highland Hospital:

Comprehensive Care and Specialized Expertise

Highland Hospital stands as a vital community resource in the Bay Area, offering a wide spectrum of medical services ranging from primary care to complex surgical interventions. The facility is particularly renowned for its advanced capabilities in trauma care and emergency medicine, serving as a Level 1 Trauma Center equipped to handle the most critical cases. Patients frequently highlight the hospital's strength in specialized departments, including neurosurgery, orthopedics, and obstetrics, where experienced physicians and multidisciplinary teams provide comprehensive support.

Compassionate Care in Critical Moments

While the high-volume nature of the hospital can sometimes lead to longer wait times, the prevailing sentiment among satisfied patients is one of profound gratitude for the human connection provided by the staff. Many reviews emphasize the kindness, empathy, and professionalism of the nurses and doctors, who are often described as going "above and beyond" to comfort patients during vulnerable moments. From the labor and delivery units to the intensive care wards, patients appreciate the attentive care that makes them feel valued and heard, with many noting that the staff treats them with dignity and respect.

Family-Centered Services and Dental Support

The hospital is also celebrated for its family-oriented approach, particularly in its obstetrics and pediatric services. New parents often speak highly of the midwives and nursing staff who provide not only medical expertise but also emotional guidance and education, helping families navigate the joys and challenges of new life. Additionally, the on-site dental department offers essential oral health services, with some patients praising the patience and skill of the dental team in managing complex procedures and patient anxiety.

Fantastic experience: I was taken to Highland Hospital after suffering an acute heart attack. The staff and physicians took wonderful care of me and I am forever grateful for the care I received. Special mention goes to the cath lab nurses as well as Dr Yang the cardiologist who were beyond amazing.

Negative experience: nurses here quite literally take everything as a joke. wouldve just rather suffered than being held captive

Fantastic experience: This review is for the blood lab specifically. I had a great experience coming here and didn’t have to wait at all. I have small delicate veins and I’ve had phlebotomists completely give up after 3-5 tries in the past. Sheronda listened to my past experiences of where usually works and doesn’t on my arms and was knowledgeable and kind. The visit was very quick and I would definitely trust her again in the future.

Negative experience: Went to the hospital, got told there was something wrong with my heart and then they left me in the waiting room for 2 hours without any medicine for pain at all, after all ready been there for 5 hours, so don't go to this hospital unless you wanna die. Worlds worst hospital

Negative experience: I came to highland with a bum knee my pain level is at a 12. I have been here for almost 10 hours. I have experience the worst treatment ever. To top it off i had a bed in the er. The rudest nurse Teresa johnson. I told her that I needed to use the bathroom she very rudely said "you have to wait, I am going to give a patient meds" i informed her that it was an emergency she rudely said again "you have to wait" i told her that she was very rude and that she had terrible bedside manners. I was due to get a ct scan l keep in mind that I still had my gown on the nurse teresa johnson had the adacity to basically kick me out of the bed i had and told me the change into my clothes in the public bathroom. I have never received treatment from a hospital facility like this ever.

Negative experience: Many serious flaws in the ER dept checking via ambulance

Fantastic experience: I was on admission on Nov 24, 2025. I didn't even feel a symptom, I drove myself, but Doctors identified my problem, examined me thoroughly and gave me prescription. I'm ok as at now and need a check up if I require drugs or no more drugs. But I've received a bill, hmm. They are great and will always visit and recommend.

Fantastic experience: My 93-year-old mother who was once an RN, had a bad fall last week and had to be taken into Highland Hospital via ambulance. Unfortunately I live out of state and couldn’t be with her, but when she returned home the next day I asked her how her care was at Highland. Expecting to hear the worse being an Oakland Hospital, she went on and on about how great they were. They had treated her with such good care and concern. The Nurses were all wonderful and very attentive. The hospital staff was professional and very thorough in checking all her injuries. Her whole experience at Highland was very positive. It made me very happy to hear there are still hospitals in the Oakland/Berkeley area that treat their patients this well. They did not rush to get her processed and done with but they did treat her in a very timely manner. Kudos to all those Doctors and Nurses at Highland Hospital ER and also to the fire department EMTs/paramedics who transported her there.

Negative experience: Their negligence gave my dad a stroke - if not for the settlement from the lawsuit against this place he would have died destitute and these people would have gotten away with it. He went in for diabetes treatment, but an error on their part resulted in him being given the wrong medication, which caused the first in a series of strokes (once tou have one you are more likely to have another) that led to his death. Great job, Highland hospital.

Fantastic experience: My dad went into the emergency room last month while I was out of state. The ER staff was excellent and called me several times with updates until I could get there. Also the follow up in neurology was so appreciated. We are blessed to have such a high quality hospital in Oakland!!!

Fantastic experience: My father had his dental surgery at the dental department of this hospital. Before coming here, he had visited two other clinics but was eventually referred to here. I noticed that some reviews mentioned difficulties in getting an appointment here, but that is largely due to the medical system and limited resources. Despite this, the entire dental team was very professional and they acted with the patient's best interests in mind. I especially want to thank Dr. Rachel Li , who consolidated my father's originally planned multiple appointments on different days into one day and performed his oral surgery. Even though her schedule was already busy, she went above and beyond on the day of the procedure to ensure everything was completed successfully. Considering that my father has hearing loss and was unable to communicate during the surgery, her patience and compassion meant a lot to us. We truly appreciate the help and excellent care provided by the entire dental team.

Fantastic experience: Was in a horrific auto accident. Was in 24 hour care for 5 days. Just checked out last night. The staff here go above and beyond. They are truly amazing people and obviously are in their "calling". I would mention some names, but would leave a couple out (lots of drugs) and feel bad. They know who they are! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! God bless you! Shawn

Fantastic experience: I went in with an hyperinflamed liver & going through withdrawals. Was admitted to the emergency room and spent two nights there. All of my nurses were great- shoutout Maryann & Celine. Doctor Nathan took great care of me and walked me through everything and even their AA bridge program stopped by to walk me through. Left and walked through their garden. 10/10

Negative experience: Changes need to be made in the pharmacy and their employees and system.it takes way to long and they act like they are wotking for free like they dont want to be here or work.we have to do better.please it shouldn't take this long.i have been coming here for years and i never had to "check in" once the emergency dept sends the refferal you go to the pharmacy and wait for your name to show.there is an asian lady older slim.with glasses who has a bad attitude.if i was the undercover boss she would be fired for insubordination under her leadership or influence its becoming an inconducive experience for the residenta of oakland. Me being one of many who are not tonhappy with her or whats going on up here.th2 emergency dept said my medicine would be ready when i get there but after 20 minutes of waiting in line the lady i mentioned said i have to " wait 45 minute" because i didnt check in also when i got home they forgot one of my medications.can we stop this please

Positive experience: I had a 2nd surgery there a few days ago and the whole process was much smoother than the 1st. I was scheduled to go to the OR at 7:45. They called me back around 6:15am and my nurse, Sapphire, was awesome. She got all the pre-op and check in stuff done quickly and she was so nice. Surgery started on time and went well. My only complaint is that I felt a little rushed to leave. I know it’s not the staff’s fault. I’m sure the hospital admin is telling them to get us out asap after surgery but 30 more minutes would’ve been better for my nausea. The nurses in post op were really nice though.

Negative experience: I can never get a live call to a human being when I call them to schedule an appointment. The recording keeps playing. There's no direct line to the dental office. I've called the switchboard many times, and every time I hear the recording for over an hour or two, no one will answer. It's terrible.

Negative experience: This hospital is horrendous, I took my neighbor there for food poisoning and it took 8 hours to get done. They only had 4-5 beds only in the ER, place is filthy, nurse very slow to get things done to the fact that when my neighbor was done and all she had to do is to remove IV and sent home but decided to go to lunch first and didn’t tell anything to her coworker. Also they only had PA. Arrival time 3:30 PM- exit hospital 11:30 PM

My Id got left there AFTER I WAS SHOT IN THE BACK and the lady told me when I called “that sucks you should go get a new one” like dang you can’t even check for me not even look ok. Than I called because the doctor forgot to call my medication in for the 3rd time and the lady hung up in my face because they had the wrong information.

Positive experience: Parking can be tricky if you drive, sometimes there's some wacky stuff going on. But the staff were always extremely kind to me and the doctors (especially the ones in the training program, podiatry, and emergency care) were phenomenal. I felt the quality of care I received was of the highest quality.

Elle Wren Published on Google 10 months ago

Negative experience: There's no way to actually call anyone at the doctors office at the Outpatient Clinic. Their MyChart doesn't let you message anyone. Effectively all you can do is leave a voice mail and hope someone gets back to you. Maybe they will. Maybe they won't. If you want certainty - you're not going to find it any time soon. This has been the most frustrating and frankly, worst access to healthcare I've ever had - and I'm basically stuck with these people.

Fantastic experience: I recently visited Island Hospital Urgent Care for abdominal pain that I’ve been dealing with for almost four months. I was fortunate to be seen by Dr. Leanne Marcotrigiano. She was the first doctor who truly listened to me and took my concerns seriously. Her professionalism, kindness, and attentive care made a big difference. May God bless her for the way she treats her patients. I highly recommend Dr. Marcotrigiano to anyone in need of compassionate and thorough medical care.

Negative experience: HOSPITAL PAIN MANAGEMENT CLINIC doctor Sunavo Dasgupta was extremely irresponsible. His office is on the 7th floor. Before I could even finish explaining my situation, he interrupted me multiple times and repeatedly showed impatience. Despite me clearly stating that I had lower back and spinal pain, he diagnosed it as merely muscle pain. It was truly unacceptable. Compared to him, my primary care doctor is incredibly professional. This doctor completely lacks medical ethics—he was cold, indifferent, and downright despicable.

Negative experience: I found my stay at Highland Hospital to be quite unpleasant. I went to Highland Hospital after my assault. Unable to eat, I asked for protein with a straw, and being a vegan vegetarian, they gave me a plate of chicken that I couldn’t chew. It sounded like they were having some party in the waiting room, and nobody was helpful to me. They put me on a video chat, and then they tried to tell me that I needed to be on Ambien, which makes no sense at all. I didn’t do anything wrong. Are they siding with my assaulter? Why would they tell me I need medication? I was violently assaulted on the street. I am entirely innocent. One of the male nurses took me to a testing room, and when it was over, I was so confused walking through the holes. The people who work at the hospital were yelling at me and pulling in that direction. It was such a confusing, scary experience for me. I spent so long wondering and lost. Why is everyone so unhelpful and so aggressive? Can you please put up signs and make it easier for us? I'm happy you’ll be more helpful. It took me way too long to get out of there and was very unpleasant. I ended up in the area where everybody ate and looked at me like I was not supposed to be there. I was finally able to get out through a back gate. Someone finally helped me. I am not someone who would ever recommend this hospital, but it’s a hospital. I have to use it. I’ve been assigned it. Let’s help make this a more peaceful world and a better, more compassionate place.

Negative experience: After the equipment for blood pressure failed 5 times, causing anyone more anxiety, a provider let me wait 45 minutes in urgent care! and then stormed into the room emotionally charged bc I said I don't feel well and need to be seen and she had an obvious derogative attitude. She didn't listen entered incorrect data in my after visit review after she seen me for 2 minutes. She was extremely rude in her tone and unprofessional in her behavior. Staff that makes appointments should know that urgent care doesn't do prescription other than over the counter and not waste patients time and let loose unprofessional incompetent people like assistant physicians that have no respect for the US Constitution on US citizens

Negative experience: Thank you Jesus my daughter finally saw another hospital and neurologist and had further testing lumbar puncture, MRI, lab work up for disease. It's not an aneurysm, but a not so nice autoimmune disease that creates head pain and pressure and eye problems among other problems . But she is on recommended meds for the problems.Highland (Alameda Health system needs to do wayyyyy better). I'm sure so many slip through the cracks trying to get proper care. Daughter has a potential aneurysm from cats scan and MRI she had this year and last year, need to see neurologist while waiting to see her primary sent her to this hospital. A mistake to go there, she kept Being told by nurses she was only here for a headache and that she should just buy advil, after 24 patients went in before her she finally left with no help and went to another ER. If you check in patients whether your a clerk or a nurse please be professional and non rude. Just because you'll work at a hospital where you majority serve the poor, sick and some mentally disabled doesn't give any of them the right to be disrespectful, rude and attempt to downplay a patient Illness and pain. Before she even seen a doctor it was made clear they were never going to call her to the back, because they assumed her diagnosis without a test. I told her don't go to this hospital they haven't been good to us in the past they told my daughter several years back she had the flu without a real test or exam to make sure it wasn't something else. I told her go to another ER she was admitted for seven days because she has a colon disease. My mother was in this hospital and fell through the cracks, be careful bringing your loved one here. A Lot of people say because their a learning institution it should be great, but to many of them just don't care now or never did They have some good workers I've encountered here, but it seems like the bad outweigh the good in the past and now. Don't say I didn't inform you, I'm speaking on primary, ER and specialist here.

Fantastic experience: I got my IUD with anesthesia done here at this hospital and felt no pain! If you're having problems with your menstrual cycle, please speak to your doctor so they can give you options and ignore the people who say, "it is part of being a woman", because there are medical conditions if the cycle is severe without the patient realizing. No woman deserves to be silenced while suffering pain just because some people say, 'it is part of being a woman'. Speak to your doctor to have your cycle checked and a woman is not 'weak' just because she gets treatment for her cycle! Every woman has a different pain tolerance and cycle!

Tucker Zischka Published on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: What an awful place. Go somewhere else. I went in to visit a patient, got mistakenly processed as a patient, and charged 2000 dollars. Backstory: I wanted to visit a patient in the emergency room. This was a level 1 trauma patient involved in a car crash the night prior. I was there at the car crash, called 911, and attempted to help him before professionals arrived. I showed up to the hospital the next day after he was stable to ask him about any blood-borne pathogens he might have since I came into contact with his blood. I showed up to Emergency Care and stated what/why I was there. I followed the staff's directions thinking they were directing me to entering as a visitor. I waited, gave them information, and signed what they asked for. However, they mistook me as a patient. Lo and behold, a PA comes out to see me. I'm confused because I thought I was going to be a visitor. I try to explain to the PA that I was their to visit a patient. The PA didn't understand it until 30 minutes later of explaining it. Later, I then get the bill for ER admittance of ~$1700. I attempt to talk to someone at the hospital about this because I only wanted to be a visitor. I'm directed to the billing department where I talked to a crabby woman named Elois Thomas. She sends me a "dispute form" by mail. I fill it out and send it back via mail. Its rejected because the charges are "accurate". I'm not familiar with the process so I start asking questions about this. She gets angry with my confusion and frustration. Not flexible at all in helping me with mistaken admittance. She then directs me to the Patient Safety Office/Complaints for this. I attempt to get a hold of someone, but no one ever picks up. After weeks of calling, someone finally picks up. Unfortunately, the call gets disconnected. After more weeks of calling, I finally get a return call saying that they have received my information, are working on it, and will hold the bill from going into collection. A month later, the charges disappear from the online portal. Great, they listened to me and I don't have to pay this extortion. Wrong. Months later, I get a call from the collection agency saying that I owe them money with interest. Its now $2000. I then contacted the hospital billing to find out what happened. Apparently, the charges disappeared because the account went into "bad debt status". It then took the collection agency months to receive the account information. I didn't know what was happening to the account because there was no communications to me, there was no notice that it was going to collections, and they charged interest during that time. Eventually, the billing department stops answering my questions on the online billing portal as I attempt to figure out what's going on. I then went in-person to find someone at the patient safety office because I never heard of what came of my complaint/dispute. The people at the hospital direct me to the corporate office. I show up but everything is locked down. One nice random lady helps me by fetching the manager of the department. This manager was nice, said that people weren't supposed to show up here, and said that he would have someone look into it. A nice lady from the department calls me and takes some information. After about a month and a half, I receive another call after the investigation saying they sent me the results via mail. They sent it to the wrong address. They fixed the address and "sent it again". I never receive this second either. After about 3 weeks of trying to get into contact with them, I'm finally able to talk to someone and learn that they also concluded the charges are accurate. I pay over the phone but they overcharged me by about $110. I'm attempt to find out why this happened and if its correct. However, It has been weeks and the billing department has not answered my questions. I've left messages, emails, and phone calls. What an awful place. If you can, go somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: Amazing staff for baby delivery and Post Partum care! My son & daughter-in-law have had such a beautiful experience here. Nurse Jennifer Philip and midwife Lauren are fantastic! They made this experience perfect for first time parents. Their attention, care, professionalism, knowledge is priceless. The Charge Nurse Ms Connie in the Post Partum department is excellent, very caring and so patient with all of their questions. One can not put a price on this type of care for this milestone in ones life. What an amazing experience over-all in this Hospital. Thank you to ALL the staff in both units, for your dedication in doing what you do, and doing it with such love and care. God Bless!

Fantastic experience: Highland was an amazing experience for me. Went in 41 weeks pregnant for induction and ended up having a c-section. Each doctor and nurse treated my family and I so well. The surgery went soo good. I really do recommend this hospital for labor and delivery. I was nervous as this was my first baby! Take my advice, this hospital was a wonderful experience :)

Fantastic experience: If I could find the CEO of this hospital I would write a thank you note. Seriously, the service from the valets, nurses, doctors, neurosurgeons and every person at every desk was amazing. My husband fell off a ladder, hit his head…traumatic. But everyone So On It. Kudos to Alee, the sweetest valet / security ever. Only thing missing was a working vending machine

Negative experience: I went to my appointment. The doctor ordered my prescriptions and I had to wait for them to be ready. I go to my car to wait the expected half hour and walk in for the 2nd time. The first time I walked in I didn't bring anything but my cell phone and i.d. this time I bring my papers from the appointment and my purse with nothing in it but the papers and the cell phone. The security guard grabs my Dooney and Burke purse and begins sifting through my purse scooping the bottom to to the top with their hand. I tell him that's enough. What are you looking for. I grab my purse and the security guard grabs back we begin a tug of war over the purse. My purse cost $600. In the struggle the zipper on my purse is broken and the purse ruined. I had to take it back to my car at the refusal of entrance unless I let him continue to violate my privacy. So I take the purse back to the car and DO NOT MAKE IT ON TIME TO GET MY PRESCRIPTIONS AND I HAD TO RETURN AFTER WORK THE NEXT DAY. I go to speak with his boss head of "Security" which told me his guard had the right to search through my bag anyway he wanted. I ask for the written policy they would not produce. I ask for the email/phone of his supervisor so I can get further information about the policy because I don't believe him. I draft the email sent it, UNDELIVERABLE. I call and it's the SAME SECURITY GAURD WHO GAVE ME THE NUMBER. I WANT MY PURSE. LOOSERS

Negative experience: I’m sure that there are good people there but management understaffs them. After a hit and run nearly killed me, I was taken here. Trauma quickly treated me, but once it was determined that I had non life threatening injuries, I was abandoned in an alcove near the entrance. I was never admitted to a room, never saw anyone from orthopedics. They completely missed a broken thumb so I used it not knowing it was broken. I was left in a gurney and only saw exasperated nurses that tried their best. After thirty hours sitting there, I left. They still billed the heck out of my insurance. I didn’t have a choice where I was taken from the wreck. If you have a choice, avoid this place at all costs.

Negative experience: I just left the place with my boyfriend we took him in there because he's in heart failure and he couldn't breathe and they wouldn't take him in because they said that he had to write his name out the guy couldn't even breathe we ended up leaving I would never ever go there again no compassion they didn't want to spend the time to write his name so they were telling him to write it he's in no shape to do anything and they and they said to have a nice day when we left

Fantastic experience: Many thanks to the outstanding doctors, nursing staff and Michele (who liaised with Kaiser) at Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA for my son/brother who was struck by a car, had surgery and treated there for days in room 6619. The care received was excellent, absolutely 1st-class! Thank you again for your hard work, commitment, and selfless service. With much appreciation and best wishes, Sherry and Brandon Henderson

Negative experience: They are marketed as 24 hours, but they don't let people in like that until 7 am. Everything opens at 7 am, and there is only one nurse working on the floor. One elderly lady waited for eight hours, and another lady is waiting for over an hour. They are extremely busy with people not really being helped just sleeping in the hospital.

Julia Pope Published on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: There were rivers of blood on the floor that were not cleaned up and they sent me a bill for $33,000 despite the fact that I have Blue Shield PPO which is supposed to be in-network. I am getting charged as out of network because they are charging more than the amount the insurance companies agreed-upon and they are not get prior authorization despite the fact that I only spent one night in the ER and had an MRI that took 25 hours to get, despite the fact that the 20- something aged doctors said I could be paralyzed. This was the only hospital that the ambulance (owned by the same entity as Highland) would take me to. Highland should be prosecuted for gross negligence, non-compliance with cleanliness and safety standards and wildly unethical behavior. The doctors and nurses were rude and wouldn't let my partner join me for nearly 2hrs after getting to the ER after my car accident for no reason at all, and the nurses got angry at me for begging them to let him in over and over. And to make it all more charming with a woman beside me in the ER was insane, biting the nurses and screaming the entire time and they wouldn't do anything about it. There were also police officers guarding some of the patients because they were too dangerous to be left alone. That place is Hell and charging people like it's Beverly Hills. Shame on them and everyone running the place.

Negative experience: My son was a patient in Dentistry /Endo since May 2023. In all the endless insignificant visits of examinations/evaluations including phone visits, and on site visits, no one ever concluded that he had a significant infection in tooth 31. All MediCal approvals were completed. For sometime he has been having mostly unrelated illnesses including surgery and several ERs visits. None of these hospitalizations were at Highland Hospital as they were related to other major chronic conditions. However, through Highland’s neglect and under- diagnosing a significant infection identified as a root canal patient, he was plaqued with nonspecific fevers over a period of months. On 9:20/23, a private Endocrinologist diagnosed a serious infection in # 31 and prescribed antibiotics before proceeding with the intended procedure. The cost, time and pain could have been avoided with proper patient treatment. It is sad that your only Endocrinologist passed just days before my son’s procedure. It’s also sad that although Highland is the Adult Triage Center in the EastBay, has a reputation of recognizing gun shots, burns and knife wounds as the only urgent cases.

What I should do?

Fantastic experience: The five stars rating is for the clinic physician, Lisa Samuel who called me to follow up With my situation and discussed about my treatment, prescription and the ultimate goal. She walked me through the whole process of a treatment that has been chosen or given to me by a doctor add the ER in San Leandro hospital. I think she listened really well, understood and suggest the best following treatments for me which I tremendously appreciate your time and knowledge that she shared with me. Lisa you are an amazing person and you made me feel like that you care about my health and well-being.

I spent three whole days with my wife and daughter in this hospital, regardless of religion, nationality, color and race. I really knew that humanity and help were the first words of this hospital. I can't really appreciate you by writing sentences, hoping for more success thanks to Dr_ Cynthia, Brook LDRN, Tudy, Amarachukwu Department Postpartum RN❤️❤️❤️

Positive experience: These nurses can’t even believe their own lies anymore. They need to explain things to people correctly and not just pull out new rules. I went to visit my mom who just had my baby sister 3 different times with different people. They didn’t mention anything the first two times. The third time they decide to tell me that my mom made a list and no one else can go in if they aren’t on the list. My parents are on the phone saying that what they said wasn’t true. I just wish they could tell the truth from the start and make things clear.

Negative experience: DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY HERE. THEY COMMIT GROSS MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE. My father-in-law is 70 years old and with a brain bleed and severe concussion. They sent him to the Step Down Unit to be monitored. There was one nurse to the entire floor and a charge nurse each shift the entire weekend. Several times during the weekend the nurses station was completely abandoned. There was no attending for the floor. The intern was not able to make medical decisions even when my FIL’s blood pressure was almost at a hypertensive crisis and his arterial pressure was well above the normal level. He was also allowed to walk UNASSISTED to the bathroom during non-visiting hours when he was dizzy and prone to falls due to his condition. Nurse Faud Mohammed refused to give us the name of the administrator / house supervisor (illegal) when we noticed my FIL getting worse (vomiting BUCKETFULS, complaining of increasing head pain, BP skyrocketing, arterial pressure skyrocking). Instead gave us a 20 minute lecture about how he was providing excellent care and how it wasn’t “medically necessary” to give CT scans to a patient with a BRAIN BLEED and all those clear symptoms of increasing intercranial pressure. He YELLED at my father in law, intimidated him, tried to intimate the family. And overall would not perform the health checks deemed necessary by being on that floor. After the night nurse came on - she saw exactly what we saw. His pupils (never checked by Nurse Mohammed) weren’t responding correctly. A ct was done at 6am the next day (again severely understaffed) and guess what - THE BLEED WAS SPREADING. Now this 70 year old man had to have emergency surgery to relieve the pressure and who knows the damages that this has caused - let alone if he will ever wake up again. This was SEVERE AND DOCUMENTED NEGLIGENCE on the part of the hospital. I will be filing a complaint on Nurse Faud Mohammad’s with the board of nursing and taking this issue up with the hospital. The documented gross negligence of Highland Hospital put my father in law on death’s door.

Negative experience: I had an appointment 9am and it is 11am and still I haven't been called in to be seen. When ever I go and ask their frond disk disk, what the reason they have no answer. And they are so rude. This Hospital don't care about other people time, but if you come 3 minutes late, they Sent you home because you are 3 minutes late. I have been waiting since 2 hours. And they don't even care. And I have wait with my 3 kids

Fantastic experience: ER staff was so amazing. I could tell they cared and wanted nothing but the best for me. They actually cared what happened to me, where I was going, what decisions I was making in life. And I received absolutely zero judgment from any of the nurses, doctors, receptionists, security guards, etc (which I am usually judged at other hospitals I have previously been to). Not here though, forever will be my go-to hospital. They took the time to talk to me and gave me a lot of helpful information and so many great resources. I am so grateful that they cared about me when i didn't even care about me ❤ Thank you Highland ER Team.

Negative experience: Staff does NOT care about people AT ALL. I had an appointment for 11:45am and I arrived at 11:58am out of breath because I literally could not find closer parking and the walk was far. The older blonde lady didn't even greet me, just stared at me until I said hello to which she just said "Do you have an appointment?" no warmth whatsoever. I say yes, "11:45am my name is Natalie." then DANIELLE SWAN the receptionist informed me I could not be seen due to being late. I tell her I struggled to find parking but don't mind waiting as a walk-in. She literally does not care. She tells me that's not how the clinic works and they will not see me today. I tell her the sign says they accept walk-ins till 4pm and I can just check in as a walk-in. She tells me I cannot do that and that they will not see me today. There is nobody in the lobby waiting, just me. So I tell her I literally need this medical attention today and I can wait here all day if I need to. She tells me again, that's not how this works and I won't be seen. I then say "You guys really don't care do you?" and she says "We do, but you have to have an appointment." So I finally just ask "who can I talk to that has more power than you?" She says she can talk to the provider. When she comes back VIOLA, suddenly they can see me at 2pm. This clinic is a joke. Complete disregard for human life. The ironic part is Danielle Swan is disabled so you'd think she'd have more empathy, but instead she's mean and bitter. I am disabled as well, although not in a wheelchair like her, and couldn't help but wonder how might she treat me differently if my disability was physically visible. The staff here should be ashamed of the way they treat sick underprivileged people.

Positive experience: I came to this hospital to deliver my baby girl. I was a week overdue. They went over all my options with me in a caring and considerate way. I was so scared since this was my first baby and I told the nurse I had no idea what to do. They educated me in a compassionate way about what I can do without ever pushing anything. They really empowered me to make the best decision for myself and my baby. The midwives were a huge support system which I really needed because I have no family or friends in the Bay Area and i felt so alone on one of the most important days of my life (giving birth for the first time) I had nobody there but the love and care the midwives gave me made me feel like I could doit because of their support. After delivery the postpartum area was good too but not as great as the delivery section. Their was one nurse that kept making unwanted comments and would stay to chat about non-Medical things. She was so talkative and I was so dead tired from giving birth and I didn’t want to tell her to leave and I don’t feel like having a conversation out of fear that she might get upset and be mean to my baby ( because of her I have to take off a star). They really should train their nurses to be more perceptive to their patients needs. The parking situation is horrible so that’s another star off. Overall I loved the midwives at the delivery unit they are truly angels.
