Negative experience: I had positive experience with Dorion & Associates 4 years ago. However, since I moved back, the clinic has changed. The scheduling and communication is awful. (1) First, my appointment was cancelled last minute due to a hurricane warning (which didn’t happen eventually), the clinic never called or emailed me back to reschedule a new time. (2) I rescheduled by myself. When I came in on the appointment day, they told me I had to go home because the hygienist had an emergency. Please note they didn’t try to call or email me ahead. While it’s an emergency, I’m sure people are capable of communicating to patients who are impacted in this digital age. (3) I was rescheduled again. The third time arrived, I was unfortunately 5 minutes late and was told they already cancelled my appointment because their clinic couldn’t handle 5-min late. I insisted to be cleaned that day and explained the whole story with frustration- eventually a doctor there reluctantly did some cleaning. (4) Here today I arrived for my appointment at 9am. Their clinic was closed. I called and no one answered and learned from the auto message that office closed today. Again, I really think they could inform the patients ahead. Lastly, please do not trust Dr. Swan’s diagnosis. My husband came in for a baseline exam and was told by her that he had multiple cavities. My husband didn’t “fill” them right away as his teeth were quite healthy before moving back to NC. After a few months, those cavities (or perhaps stains) went away.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient at this practice for almost fifteen years. All of the major procedures, especially the gum grafts, were expertly performed. Everything was explained thoroughly in advance of the procedures, costs and insurance coverage was worked out professionally in advance, and I was always made to feel comfortable. The hygiene and periodontal care given there has kept me out of surgery for years and I am grateful for that. And you will not find a better administrative staff. Great experiences there.

Negative experience: This dental hygienist doesn’t know how to not hurt! I’m still in pain from her poking at my gums. She says she’s required to, but that’s BS, I had two other ones who were fantastic, but unfortunately they left the practice, so I ended up stuck with this one for a second time. Well, it’ll be my last, I don’t want that person near my mouth or my family’s.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Ramundo and her assistant Emily were lifesaver’s today. A quick visit to diagnose a recent issue, they solved the problem with one thousand percent satisfaction! Thank you! You could say it was an unlikely culprit that made the solution even more enlightening. We both smiled!

Fantastic experience: I just had a dental cleaning and some other dental procedures done and I honestly have huge anxiety normally and bad reflex but these ladies were excellent and the procedure went smoothly, no gag reflex or stress, I will be back from now on for everything in the future!! Negative experience: I rarely write Google reviews, although I often read them in making my decisions about healthcare providers, restaurants, and other businesses. This review is for people like me. It is long and detailed, but I wanted to explain my reasons for the low rating and my dissatisfaction with this practice. I engaged Dorion & Associates for periodontal care over a year ago. I have seen them for 3 cleanings and one consultation. My experience with them became less positive at each visit. In a nutshell, I felt that they were more concerned with up-selling me dental/periodontal treatments I didn't need than they were listening to my concerns and taking care of my teeth/gums. At the first visit they did x-rays and evaluated my gums before cleaning my teeth. At the end of the visit the periodontist, Dr. Gandini, was mainly concerned that I get a night-guard because I was a "grinder and clencher," which they claimed contributed to gum disease. I declined the $600 out of pocket cost and booked my next cleaning. At the next cleaning the hygienist again brought up the mouth-guard. This time Dr. Gandini (who only dropped in very briefly at these visits before rushing off to another patient) indicated that she wanted to extract a molar with a gold crown I have had for 50 years. Because I chew on that tooth and it was not giving me any problems, I again declined. At the third cleaning, Dr. Gandini again recommended the extraction and this time told me that I needed to have LANAP, a form of laser surgery. She scheduled a consult for that. Meanwhile at that third cleaning I reported new pain in my upper left wisdom tooth/molar but no treatment was offered except that the hygienist said I should try not to chew on that side. At the consult I again mentioned the tooth pain and was told by Dr. Gandini to use Sensodyne (which I already did) and to dab a little on the painful wisdom tooth. She then launched into her sales pitch for LANAP, showing me my chart with multiple 8mm pockets, which she said could only be reached with the laser. She also said she could extract my crowned molar during the 3-hour process. I was troubled but began to feel that I should probably do it. Dr. Gandini again had to rush off before explaining the post-operative instructions. Her assistant did so and I was shocked at the lengthy recovery times both for eating normally and for brushing and flossing my teeth. When I received the $6500 out-of-pocket estimate for the procedure at check-out, I was surprised to see that it included the mouth-guard as well as the extraction. Over the next couple of days I began to resolve myself to the expensive process and the extensive recovery time. But when I began to explain the process to my daughter, she felt that it sounded extreme and urged me to get a second opinion to consider alternative treatments. I took her advice and set up an appointment with another periodontist. This periodontist did an examination of my mouth and her assessment of my "pockets" was that they were not nearly as severe as Dr. Gandini had suggested and that I was not a candidate for laser surgery. She did suggest extracting my painful wisdom tooth (its bottom mate had been extracted a few years ago) and said I might need to have my other two wisdom teeth extracted as well. After doing so we would see if the crowned molar (next to the bottom right wisdom tooth) would also need extraction or if removing its neighbor would give us better access to keeping it clean. Needless to say I have now switched periodontists.

Fantastic experience: I really appreciate the excellent personalized dental care I receive from Dr. Ramundo and the staff at Dorion in Chapel Hill. I highly recommend.

Negative experience: This should be a zero star review. I am keeping this with 2 stars because I did not have the experience with all the providers. One dentist whom I met for 1-2 minutes max, she NEVER checked the work of the dental hygienist who had no experience at all and caused damage. The worse experience with a dentist office since moving to NC about two decades ago. The practice is still name after Dr. Dorian who does not see patients. This used to be reputable and well respected practice, unfortunately that was not my experience.

Everything went well with the hygienist and I believe she did a great job on my teeth. I really appreciated Dr. Gandini taking the time to address a few of my concerns. If you need a good periodontist, I highly recommend her. Dr. Gandini has always been very pleasant, knowledgeable, and willing to take the time and that means a lot to me.

Positive experience: Not terrible- very kind staff. However, the dental exam and cleaning was done very heavy handedly, and I ended up with a lot of bruising on my gums for a couple days afterwards. They also told me I could have gum disease and would check in after 6 months. I ended up getting a second opinion at another dentist and they told me my gums were not nearly as bad as Dorion & associates had said.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming here for quite a few years. I started with one Doctor who then decided to retire and ended up with another Doctor who was just as great, just as caring, and just as smart. This group is super professional. You can ask questions. They will tell you exactly what needs to get done and the whole team works so collaboratively from the front desk to anybody that you’re seeing.

I originally started going for periodontal work and saw Dr. Gandini, she is incredible and so nice. I was still going to another dentist but was always having issues with them and when Dr. Gandini informed me that they also have a dentist on staff I decided to give her a try. Her name is Dr. Swann is she is also incredible. In fact, all the staff are great and always very nice and helpful. I wish I had started going here years ago for my general dentistry work. I just had six crowns done and they are amazing. I could go on and on but to sum it up I would highly recommend them to everyone. Top notch periodontal and dentistry by top notch providers.

Fantastic experience: I moved to Raleigh three years ago and have been to three dentists since that time. Dr Tom Schefsky is by far the best dentist - EVER! Without question, his attention to his craft and genuine care for my concerns is so wonderful. You would think all dentists would be this way but that has not been my experience. In fact, it has been quite the opposite so as a result I drive one hour just so that i can have him as my dentist. It is so worth it to get a higher level of service and care with him. Absolutely a “Godsend”.

Fantastic experience: My hygienist is awesome. She always has cleaned my teeth several times and diligently spends the time necessary to ensure I have a detailed cleaning. I cannot recall her name but I know she is new to Dorian and is from Russia, she is a master at cleaning. Other hygienists use the power water jets and not much manual scaling, every time it causes pain with my type of bone loss. I appreciate her and will request her every time.

I was able to get an appointment in a timely frame of time, made several calls regarding my out of state insurance plan and the staff were so helpful with answering all of my questions. The Hygienist were very helpful in calming my anxiety and Dr Kim is my new favorite person. So happy and blessed to have found them.
