And Dr. Vidyarthi was, as usual, friendly, thorough, and professional. I really appreciate his way of explaining the situation. And the rest of the staff is so friendly and helpful. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: The best dentist I’ve ever had in my life, and I’m not exaggerating. I wish I’d found him 10 years ago, it would’ve saved me thousands of dollars and a ton of pain. I came here after avoiding the dentist for over a year because my previous doctor told me I needed 10k worth of dental work urgently, but then ended up stringing me along for months until after I got pregnant and couldn’t have anything done. Post-baby, I felt ashamed and overwhelmed, and like my teeth were probably all rotting in my head. Thankfully that dentist closed, and a friend recommended this team. Dr V looked and said he had no idea what work anyone could’ve claimed I needed and my teeth were fine and had no cavities (but more diplomatically). I have always felt like a frustrated cash cow for dentists, and this was the first time I’ve had someone truly assess what was necessary and not just what would make them money. And he’s been like that ever since. And the whole team is just so thorough, kind, and supportive. I actually don’t dread going to the dentist anymore, and I’m going to take my kids here as soon as they’re old enough. Just a wonderful, wonderful practice and I can’t recommend it enough.

Dr. Suman first examined properly, detailed possible options frankly, discussed pros and cons for each clearly, answered all my questions honestly and executed on the selected option diligently. They took me that morning and the Dentist was incredibly thorough and explained everything in detail. They were able to address the issue and refer me elsewhere for more treatment. I went in for a cleaning today and I believe the hygienist name was SAMA and she did a great job. I am not the best patient and I had very little discomfort And the follow up with Dr. Suman is always thorough

Fantastic experience: Had a pain-free filling replacement done today. The procedure went smoothly, barely felt the anesthetic injection. Best of all, the fine folks did it without charge since I had the original filling done there in 2008. Who actually supports their work like that in these times? Can't give enough stars.

Continues to be a superlative experience for all the reasons I have listed before. Today Flor was the hygienist and she was very skilled and did a great job. Dr. Vidyarthi is as always skilled,, caring, and explains everything very well. Izzy at the front dest and phone friendly, pleasant and provides great customer service. Dr. Suman Vidyarthi is a caring, skilled dentist in all areas of his field. His assistant Emily and Izzy at the front desk are also wonderful members of his staff that I interacted with. Everything I wrote below from my last two visits still apply. So glad I started with this practice when I first moved to Durham a year and 4 months ago Posting this on top of my review from September because Google doesn't let you post two reviews. Saw him for my second visit on 3/15/23. This continues to be a wonderful dentistry practice. I had a problem two weeks before my visit and was able to text the dentist (Dr. Suman Vidyarthi) directly. He promptly answered and gave me good advice with the option to come in before my appointment if things weren't improving. Everything I wrote during my September visit still applies and this practice continues to be the best of the best (see below). New to Durham so this was my first visit. I highly recommend Dr. Suman Vidyarthi and his entire staff.There are not enough superlatives in the English language to rate this fantastic dental practice. I have never had such a thorough, detailed, dental exam and cleaning by a dentist in my lifetime. Dr. Vidyarthi and his entire staff are wonderful. He explained everything he was doing and answered all my questions. He is very knowledgable and with a bedside manner that puts you at ease. Every person I interacted with took the necessary time with me which is refreshing in a world where there can be such a rush to get from one patient to the next. The office was very clean and covid safe with good filtration and ventilation. I had an issue in the week prior to my appointment that I got help with over the phone and through texting (they offered to see me but I preferred to wait until my first appointment as it seemed to gradually be getting better). The staff is prompt in returning calls and texts (another plus to this superb practice). Very glad to have found this gem of a practice and plan to recommend them to others.

Fantastic experience: Been a patient for over 5 years. Yet again, so happy with RFD. Their appointments are easy, they send timely reminders, their staff are polite, they are almost always running on time. Dr Suman is conservative, meaning he explains clearly and non-judgementally what items he is monitoring for change, but doesn’t over-treat. At checkout their employee knew the specifics of what my insurance would cover at my next visit. I’m very happy with this practice!

Negative experience: They used to be located off of Six Forks Rd. They gave me a cap on a tooth. That was perfectly good tooth. Then when I came back to them, they said good luck, buttercup.

Fantastic experience: I had a crown (that I had put in by another dentist long ago) fall out Friday and Renaissance family dentistry was so helpful! They told me what to do when I called really worried, and then they fit me in quickly for an appointment to put it back in. I was so grateful, and it all went really smoothly!

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient here for about two years now and I always have the best experience. Everyone at the front desk is so friendly! The facility itself is so clean and organized. I am so happy with my choice to come to this dentist! Fantastic experience: Renaissance Family Dentistry is where you go when you need the most expert opinion, the most thorough examination, comfiest cleaning, and thoughtful treatment planning. Dr. Suman and the staff hold themselves to a very high standard of care that you won't find at other practices. Most dental offices try to push crowns when a filling will more than suffice. Others charge a premium for services whose efficacy isn't supported by research. Renaissance doesn't play those games. You arrive, get quickly seated in the exam room (honestly, you may as well not even sit down - it's usually that fast), you're given whatever care you've come for, and you get a thorough explanation of your meticulously crafted treatment plan. Dr. Suman has, in my experience, also explained why he recommends one treatment over another and gives me the information to make informed decisions rather than pushing for the most costly treatment. No salesmanship, no pushy tactics. Just genuine, exceptionally high-quality dental care and fair prices. I drive 40 minutes to go here when there are 4 dental offices less than 2 miles from my house. It's that much better.

Fantastic experience: Probably the best dental experience I’ve ever had. I’m terrified by dental visits, mainly due to a traumatic experience with an Army dentist in the past. For the first time ever, I had a relaxed and pain free dental visit. If you fear the dentist like I do, this is the place to come.

Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed working with Dr. Suman. He provided detailed explanations of exactly what was going on with my teeth. He showed me x-rays and diagrams to help me understand the interventions he was recommending for me. I also appreciated that he really gave me all the options and gave me the space to express my comfort or discomfort and then pick the treatment plan that made sense for me. He was also considerate about making sure I could handle out of pocket costs, working with me in terms of timing of treatments to make sure my insurance could help cover costs. And he counseled me on best practices for my dental care without making me feel judged at all. I felt like I learned so much from the visit AND had excellent procedural work done as well. Dr. Suman's kindness and thoroughness are a key reason why I and my family see RFD for dental care.

Fantastic experience: My first visit was an emergency visit. Scheduling the appointment was smooth and quick. I was able to get a same day appointment immediately. Dr. Vidyarthi and his entire team were amazing. Dr. Vidyarthi was able to treat my emergency and throughly informed me of a treatment and preventative dental plan.

Fantastic experience: I greatly appreciate the detailed feedback from Dr. Sumani about the condition of my teeth and future plans for treatment and what I can do at home. He includes me as a partner, not just as a patient waiting for his decisions. He, and all his staff are considerate of my comfort levels. They even provide blankets if I feel chilly. My recent cleaning was one of the most relaxed ones I ever had. Ashley was gentle, calm and attentive to details. He gave me some much needed tough love with regard to dental hygiene in the nicest way possible. Fantastic experience: I always have great experiences at Renaissance Family Dentistry. Today, I had a lengthy discussion about some of my teeth that may require extensive work in the future. I also had an issue to discuss on my mouth guard. Dr. Vivek is so thorough when he explains options and solutions. He never rushes through these discussions. He gives me pros and cons, and let’s me decide what I want to do. Dr. Suman is the same way. Everyone is very friendly. There are many dentists closer to my home; I’m happy to make the extra drive to get such great care.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a patient at Renaissance Family Dentistry for a long time—once every six months for the last 18 years. Dr. Vidyarthi and his team are top shelf. The clinical and administrative team members are skillful, efficient, and ever so kind. The reception area and dental suites are comfortable, modern, and – without fail – impossibly clean. This practice always seems to have the latest in dental technology and tools at the ready, and the good sense to know when and how to use them. In the event one might want some distraction during a visit, there are two televisions in each dental suite – one on the wall ahead of the patient’s chair and one on the ceiling directly above it, tuned to the network of one’s choice. Most importantly, it’s clear to me that Renaissance Family Dentistry is a practice built on principles of clinical integrity, scientific rigor, and compassionate care. There’s no ‘upselling’ in this practice—only appropriate interventions at the appropriate time, delivered as part of an individualized treatment plan that’s explained clearly, concisely, and always with patient input. Dr. Vidyarthi creates intentional space for feedback and questions; I’ve never once felt the pressure of time during an appointment. For my part, I believe Durham residents are most fortunate to have such extraordinary care available to us.

Negative experience: Their services are overpriced, so much so that there was a balance due for a routine cleaning because the insurance would only allow for a certain amount of payout for routine cleaning. Also, Dr. V kept referring me to one of his oral surgeon buddies to have my wisdom teeth removed. These teeth were not decaying or hurting me in any way. The x-ray did not show any signs of concern. I left this place and started going to Triangle Family Dentistry and the Dentist said my wisdom teeth were fine and did not need extraction.

Fantastic experience: Our family has been patients for a couple of years and love this practice. The hygienists and dentist are great, even with our young kids (ages 3-6). Coming from a very cosmetic focused practice previously, we greatly appreciate that when painless potential problems are found on an exam, they don't just jump to recommend expensive procedures but have very thoughtful discussions of what benefit (or lack of benefit) we would see as a patient. Administratively they also make everything super easy - proactively run insurance the week before to check benefits and let you know the expected copay, even taking the initiative to follow-up on questions without being asked, and schedule the next appointment while still in the chair during the downtime between the cleaning and exam. Small kindnesses that go a long way to remove any stress about "going to the dentist".

She has been on top of every billing/scheduling detail in my three years here. I have good out-of-network benefits for my dental plan, so I prefer to pay a small amount out of pocket going to Dr. Suman than going in network elsewhere because of my great experiences here.

Told you exactly what they thought needed to be done, in what order and time frame and the approximate cost. The office is clean and modern. Fantastic experience: Holy cow. Dr. Suman Vidyarthi is by far the most thorough dentist I have ever been to. He actually listens to you and addresses your concerns. If it is outside his scope he will refer you (Orthodontia, Endodontist, etc). He is honest, compassionate, and competent. I also like that they price check your insurance for appointments/procedures BEFORE you come so you can plan. This is the premier office in Durham in my opinion.

Negative experience: We have been going to Renaissance Family Dentistry for close to 7 years, but will unfortunately not be returning. They have been extremely thorough in our dental cleanings, and we have had great experiences with all the dental hygienists that we worked with. When we no longer had dental insurance, we chose to continue coming to this practice because we had received good care. Unfortunately our last few visits with Dr. Suman Vidyarthi have been very unpleasant. During the past few visits we have chosen to forgo x-rays because of various health and financial reasons and because we have had no issues with our teeth. During our visits we felt pressured into getting x-rays, even when we clearly and calmly expressed that we weren’t able to. Dr. Vidyarthi refused to take our wishes as patients into consideration and told us not to return to his practice on 2 separate occasions. I would not recommend his practice to anyone who values being heard and respected by their dentist.

Fantastic experience: I have been to many dentists in my 65 years, but Dr. V. is the best by far. His expertise is unsurpassed. And he hires only the best dental technicians. The office is equipped with the latest dental tech. And the staff are very friendly and professional.

Fantastic experience: Everyone at this practice was so nice and very professional. The doctor took a lot of time reviewing my extensive and complex dental history, and even performed a full cleaning himself. Unfortunately I’ve had some subpar fillings and work done by other dentists in the past, and he was able to provide a lot of insight and a good game plan on how to best treat my issues going forward. Izzy at the front desk was also sooo helpful, contacting my old dentist to get all my relevant files and working with my insurance to get my cost estimate before any treatments were done. Definitely a practice I’d recommend and intend to stay at!
