Fantastic experience: From the time you enter the facility you have a sense of warmth and welcoming. Once I let Christy know I was traveling from out of town and have a dental emergency, she immediately went about seeing if I could be accommodated. Although my HMO did not support treatment at this facility, that did not deter her from getting me service. She explained that they could do an X-RAY and exam and go from there. As soon as someone became available I was brought in where Anya completed the X-Ray and then I was quickly seen by DR. Toussaint who explained what my issue was. My biggest surprise came at the end when my bill was not much more than a dinner for two at a nice restaurant. Thanks to all mentioned in this post and I can definitely recommend this practice as top notch.

My cleaning was done by Anya Markin, Dental Hygienist, and she was extremely attentive, gentle, and professional. She explained each step of the procedure, answered all of my questions, and regularly checked to make sure I felt comfortable. The cleaning itself was painless, and the result was immediately noticeable – my teeth feel much cleaner and smoother. The clinic has a very pleasant atmosphere: it’s clean, modern, and the front desk staff are polite and welcoming. You can really feel that they care about their patients. I can confidently recommend The Smile Shop and especially Anya Markin to anyone looking for a high-quality and gentle professional teeth cleaning.

Negative experience: I am a former patient because I moved to a different state. I had an appointment about 6 months ago at The Smile Shop that wasn't with the dentist I thought was going to see me. She was Indian, very nice. I was in for a check up and she found a couple of cavities on my front teeth. I came in again for the repair work and she filled the teeth and I was on my way. Within days I had jagged edges on the teeth due to some of the filling falling out. Fast forward 6 months and the entire amount of filling she had put in has fallen out. Also, the color match she did was not good at all. I had to go to my new dentist yesterday and have all of it redone. I was amazed because the new fillings are not visible because the material they used matched my teeth perfectly. I had been a patient of The Smile Shop for 6 years and I just can't understand why they would switch dentists on me without even asking me if that was ok. I hope they don't still have her working there.

Fantastic experience: I’m a new patient at The Smile Shop, and the customer service from Christy to Dr. Springs has been amazing. I love that they walk you through everything—showing before-and-after photos of procedures and giving a clear overview of X-rays. It really helps you feel informed and involved. I also appreciate the simple comforts: the up-to-date technology, the relaxing atmosphere, and even the light music in the background. I’m ashamed to admit I needed several fillings today, but I was so relaxed I could’ve fallen asleep during the procedure. The hygienists are incredibly sweet as well—one even gave me a gentle pat on the arm during the process, and it truly helped. Being in an industry where I serve people myself, I can say they deliver a true 5-star experience here.

Fantastic experience: The Smile Shop is the first dentist office I’ve experienced in Years that I felt comfortable and heard. I’ve often made appointments and canceled them due to anxiety. Dr. Toussaint changed that for me. She listened. Ensured that I felt heard. Took my concerns and anxiety seriously and made sure that I understood every step that was taking place and that my comfort was a priority. Dental work I should have taken care of years ago is finally happening due to her care. Negative experience: I’m giving The Smile Shop 1 star due to their questionable billing practices. I became a patient in February and, during my first visit, received a full exam and x-rays—completely covered by my insurance, as expected. However, during my second routine cleaning of the year, I was blindsided with a $48 charge for another exam that I did not request, approve, or even know was happening. At no point was this extra charge discussed with me before or during the appointment. I only found out about it when checking out, which is completely unacceptable. This second exam was not necessary and not covered by insurance, and I was given no opportunity to decline it. It feels like an intentional upcharge, and patients deserve transparency and consent before being charged for anything beyond standard care. Yes, the facility is clean and the staff are friendly—but that doesn't excuse a business model that takes advantage of patients in this way. Consumer beware: you may walk in for a cleaning and walk out with an unexpected bill. I won’t be returning.

Negative experience: Went here for a tooth extraction. They wanted to send me to a Oral Surgeon for it. As I was waiting for them to find me one. I made a few calls and within 2 hours after the appointment. I had my tooth removed by a Dentist that wasn't a Oral Surgeon. In and out. Best advice for everyone. Shop around. As the front desk lady said to be as I was leaving. They are the professionals but you don't always have to take One Professionals opinion. Gives Dentist a bad rep .

Negative experience: Went in here due to intense toothache. First the good - they were able to squeeze me in an appointment the same day, the wait wasn’t long and the staff was good. They were in network with my insurance and provided me the copies of the X-rays when asked for. Now the part that’s not so good - the dentist basically told me he couldn’t really figure out the reason for the pain (no infection, maybe it’s teeth grinding, maybe it’s is the jaw hinge wearing out, maybe it’s a broken wisdom tooth). I had already told him the teeth grinding issue. He asked me to contact a prosthodontist. Requested him for pain medication and he refused. So, no treatment and no help with managing the intense pain but full marks for honesty I guess. I am still in intense pain and currently running around for another dentist/ prosthodontist. Update: Reducing my review by 1 star as I had to go to another dentist the same day to get the diagnostics and suggested treatment that I should have got, in my visit to the Smile Shop. Dr. Robert Long at Triangle Family Dentistry was able to a whole series of tests, point out the exact reason for the intense pain, suggested the exact course of treatment, get me a referral to a proper endodontist and get me on a course of antibiotics and painkillers. I am never gonna go back to The Smile Shop ever again and will advise anyone reading this review to choose a better practice.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I both got our teeth cleaned here and we're very impressed. First off, the receptionist was super friendly and easy to work with to make appts. Second, they are very thorough with the whole cleaning and checkup. Sometimes I'm disappointed at a dentist because I feel like they hardly look at my teeth but these guys literally photograph every nook and cranny and do gum depth measurements and a good cleaning. Third, they didn't try to upsale me or get me to do unneeded work. I literally said, "I think I probably have a cavity in this tooth" and they could have gone with it and gotten paid for fixing that. However, they said it wasn't a cavity and we'd just keep an eye on it for now. I saw Dr. Bonasso and I thought she was great and keen to answer my questions. I would definitely recommend this place!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to the Smile Shop since I moved to Durham in 2023. While going to the dentist is never fun, the staff at The Smile Shop make it more enjoyable and easygoing. I’ve often had Amelia as my hygienist and she is always so friendly and informative about what she is doing during my cleaning. When I had to had a few fillings, Dr. Dolin also provided very thorough education about oral health and my x-rays that no one had ever done before. Highly recommend :)

Fantastic experience: Like most people the dentist is the last place I want to go. However I had some pressing dental issues that required immediate attention. I was able to easily make an appointment online and was seen within a week. The Smile Shop's website was easy to navigate and the staff immediately began obtaining not only information about my issue but what would make my appointment the most comfortable for me. From the second I walked in the door the office assistant was super friendly and patient putting me at ease. The dental hygienist was super thorough and kind. I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Dolin and she was Amazing!! I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a new/ change in their dentist.

She did a great job and I felt fresh and clean after the session was done. She also answered my questions about oral hygiene and provided good advice. Doctor Dolin completed my great experience with an exam. Check out was a breeze: "You are good to go!" Everything was nice and professional. Thank you. Update: December 5, 2024. I had good experience today. The hygienist Mary was very helpful and knowledgeable. She did great work, showed me the photos of my teeth, crowns and also gave me personalized advice on keeping my teeth clean. Thank you.

Negative experience: I became a member of this practice when they bought out my previous dentist at the same location. While initial experiences with staff and the first two doctors were actually great, serious problems with a third doctor, Dr. Bonrasso, who is newer. On the first suspicious incident, Dr. Bonrasso was pushing me to buy a night guard despite no other dentist ever saying this, and she left and then said the exact same thing to the person next door seconds later! In and out, just pitch the night guard to everyone! No one before has said this to me in 30 years, including the other two dentists here. She relented when I said I wouldn't be able to stand sleeping with that thing in my mouth but kind of gave me the "this is going in your file" sort of vibe and left right after that. I didn't care for her but didn't expect to see her again. I saw her again two years later when my regular dentists were not present. I was completely nice but after the shortest dental exam ever (I guess she looked at xrays in another room), Dr. Bonrasso said they needed to replace a filling that was only 7 years old (per her account, I'm assuming this is true) for "decay". This was previously warned by Dr. Dolan that it was close to a nerve (she drilled it and refilled it last time) and may need a root canal if they go in there again. There was no mention of this by Dr. Bonrasso - I had to point it out! Dr. Bonrasso was dismissive and did not show me the xray where the decay was and said they would know if they needed a root canal as they were drilling. Yikes! The hygeniest was a bit fast and clumsy with the xray sensor placement that day (the sensor kind of slid around in my mouth), were we sure they even had a good look at this thing and why weren't they showing me the xray? I said none of this but I had my doubts. Suspicious of Dr. B because of the earlier unexpected bite guard sales pitch, I decided to get a second opinion - the new dentist said there was no sign of decay (yikes!), but there was a shadow that should be watched. I just saved myself a very likely root canal, and it seemed like Dr. Bonrasso was pushing an unneccessary procedure to make money, just like she was doing with the bite guard and was probably going to drill into a nerve for no reason. Additionally that new xray from the new office was a lot clearer, from my eyes anyway! I also have had problems with my last hygeniest reading blood pressure incorrectly and then scolding me about it - she has done this twice. This generated a lot of unneeded health anxiety, but I bought a monitor to check it at home and I was completely fine- it was off by over 30 points! Staff need to be aware this is improper technique and the readings should be for protective legal reasons only if they must do that. Suspiciously, she also scolded I had some gum problems that were improving (some "4's") but when I had the new dentist look at the tooth she also checked gums and there were no 4s at all. I'm not sure what is going on here but kind of got the feeling she likes being "above" patients and needs to find problems, so here she was focusing on blood pressure and exaggerating gum problems? She had also worded some things strangely before in the past like "brushing this area has been a problem before WITH YOU". I was totally nice so this attitude was unwelcome. I had liked Dr. Spriggs and Dr. Dolin a lot in the past, but I don't trust Dr. Bonrasso at all, and there is no guarantee you will get any particular person when you visit, so that's a problem. Unfortunately my experience with this one dentist makes me also question my past procedures with this office, and that too is unfortunate, because they seem to be good people and probably were fine! It is important to trust that you only need procedures when you need them, and to see that a Doctor has a concern about avoiding root canals in particular, where the possibility was not even mentioned or considered. Not someone I want drilling in my mouth, that is for sure.

From the moment I stepped through the door, I was met with warm smiles and a welcoming ambiance that immediately put me at ease. The reception team was not only efficient and courteous but also made the check-in and check-out process seamless. Managing my appointments, whether scheduling, rescheduling, or canceling, has always been a breeze! The dental professionals at The Smile Shop are truly exceptional. They are not only highly skilled and knowledgeable in their field but also incredibly attentive and caring towards their patients. One thing that stands out to me is the level of personalized care I receive at this office. The dentists always take the time to listen to my concerns and answer any questions I have, tailoring their approach to meet my specific needs. Whether it's a cleaning with Ameilia or any of the other hygienists, or a visit with Dr. Spriggs, Dr. Dolin, or Dr. Bonasso,... I always know I am in good hands!! And most importantly, I always leave with a smile. The welcoming atmosphere and the positive energy of the staff members never fail to brighten my day!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to the Smile Shop for 2 years. Amelia is a fantastic dental hygienist. She is super friendly and always ensures I'm comfortable. Dr Spriggs is a great dentist. He does not seem to force unnecessary dental work (which has been my experience at previous dental offices) and takes his time to explain recommendations. I really like going to the Smile Shop (please note that I used to be very scared of dentists ☺️ )

Fantastic experience: My gratitude to The Smile Shop's team is FAR beyond what words could ever convey. I have avoided the dentist for years. Though I recognize the importance of oral health, I stressed and neglected to go because my previous experiences had involved several costly, painful procedures that were either done incorrectly or later deemed unnecessary by other dental professionals. My dentist anxiety is SO REAL. Though I am grateful to the offices that helped me repair work poorly done, none of these offices come anywhere close to the experience I had today at The Smile Shop. A huge shout out to Ellie for beginning my appointment with a gentle spirit and attitude that significantly helped secure my initial trust in the office, to Dr. Bonasso for easing my anxieties and clearly communicating my dental plan, to Amelia for being the funniest, kindest, gentlest, most comforting dental hygienist and changing my future outlook on dentists (seriously, she's SO good at what she does!), to Ashley for kindly and patiently providing me with every detail I needed to know, to Amanda for her words of affirmation all throughout, to Dr. Dolin who seems to play a significant role in the happiness of her staff and overall positive atmosphere in the office, and to the new girl at the front desk (whose name I unfortunately did not catch) who ultimately motivated my initial decision to choose this office over others in the area. This place brings individualized service to an entirely new level. They are honest, helpful, and will cater to your every need. I'm so relieved that I no longer have to stress about maintaining my oral care!!!

Fantastic experience: Look I am afraid of dentist and when I tell you the atmosphere was pleasant as soon as I walked through the door. And the receptionist was very nice. When I went to the back after introducing herself I was confident that I was in good hands she was so good and my nerves were at ease. I just loved everything about this place doctor,, hygienist I was so happy with everything . One happy patient

Fantastic experience: Best dental office ever ! Beautiful work with crowns, painless ( go during lunch and straight back to work) staff is wonderful and dentists are Top Notch !!!!

Negative experience: Dr Spriggs is highly disrespectful and unprofessional. My wife was promised a dental filling procedure that later was denied. He simply raised his hands and said “we will not be able to serve you. you need to find a different doctor.” For five years we kept on going there for dental cleaning for my entire family. He was all great because it was easy job easy money. When we asked why the filling service is denied he says your jaw has shifted. Jaw shifted in a few days and that’s too for dental filling??? When we expressed our feelings to him over phone he was all “sorries and apologies” but then he had the audacity to send a letter stating that he is terminating services. NO apologies for his and his staff’s rude and disrespectful behavior in the written letter. All his hypocritical sorries from phone conversation went away from the letter. On top he is saying he is terminating his services … when in reality I told him that with this low level of professionalism I will never ever step in his business. I repent… why did I keep on going to him for over five years without validating his professionalism? I would never recommend him to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Amelia and Dr. Dolin were absolutely amazing in taking care of me for my dental emergency!! The front desk staff was also amazing!! I will absolutely be going to them for now on and would highly recommend. Made me feel like family on first visit!
