Or you arrive, and no one is available to clean your teeth but we weren't called prior. Despite living in Santa Barbara we switched to Ventura looking for a better experience. But this did not happen. Have found a new dentist for our entire family.

Fantastic experience: Great service. I haven't had a problem with this dentist. They fixed all the issues I experienced with my last dentist. Everything has been straight forward and they always explain everything about a procedure. Cleanings are quick and easy and they always point out where I can improve. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Negative experience: I have always had great experience with the dental hygienist and dental staff but the office management is not very good they didn't take care of my billing issues in a timely manner or calling me back which ended up leaving me with a extra $648.00 I have to pay after I already payed $1,393.00, for that reason I will be looking for a new dental office after being with Johnson family dental for somewhere around 20 years.

Fantastic experience: Update: 1/22/2026 - Several years later and I still highly recommend Johnson Family Dental. I have to tell you, I honestly find myself almost comfortable going in now since my last review, despite my overwhelming fear of dentists and their dark and evil treatments. I have never had a medical office of any kind who actually understands my fears, remembers that I have those fears, and treats me accordingly. And not just the dentists. They are all aware. Nod especially to Dr. Luke and Jordan. ************* We chose Johnson Family Dental for our son's braces five years ago. We also go as a family for our dental needs. Have had nothing but great experiences with them, from the front desk to the back staff and dentists. Hats off to Dr. Luke for easing my irrational and deep-seated fear of dentists with transparency, gentleness, and kindness.

Fantastic experience: Great Care! My hygienist was excellent today. Highly recommend, been coming for years.

Negative experience: Went in to have a crown put back on. The x ray wouldn't work in that room. I was moved to another room. Had to be hit with x rays twice to get the computer to work and read the x ray. Dentist came in, placed the crown back on and it didn't fit right. He tried grinding it down over several attempts and about half an hour. It still didn't seem to fit right. He then tries to grind down the tooth opposite the crown and that still didn't work. He then tells me to let it sit for several days and see if it gets better. It did not. The crown came off the next morning. Not very happy.

Fantastic experience: As usual, the atmosphere was pleasant, the staff was great and my cleaning was quick and painless. They even have a new fluoride paint that allows you to eat 15 minutes later, as opposed to the 2 hours it used to be. I’m a very happy customer!

Fantastic experience: They are one of the best dental places I’ve been to in my years of going to multiple dentist groups from moving and changing jobs and insurance, etc. They are personable, real people that have real conversations. I don’t just feel like a number. They have helped me with questions I’ve had that they didn’t need to. They really care about my teeth and I hope I can continue with them. Many times you don’t know what you’re going to get when you start off with a new dentist. It’s like you get stuck with them. I’m scared to write such a good review because then more people might come and they will be too crowded and busy and could change! lol. They deserve all the business they can get. Great people

Negative experience: My experience at Johnson Family Dental has been disappointing due to administrative failures that created unnecessary stress. After only two appointments, I've decided find another dental office. As a patient with excellent oral hygiene who maintains regular six-month cleanings, my cleanings typically take 30-45 minutes. My first appointment here took over two hours, which I have never experienced at a practice. My second visit was particularly frustrating. Despite receiving a phone call from their office 1-2 days prior to verify my insurance, I arrived to find the front desk claiming my coverage had expired and that they had no insurance information on file. This was especially perplexing given that I had been seen by this practice just six months earlier with no changes to my coverage. The staff presented me with a $300+ estimate and seemed content to have me proceed with payment out of pocket, despite my carrying two active in-network insurance plans. There was no sense of urgency to resolve prior to my appointment beginning. Although, it was unclear of any out of pocket cost, the front desk had me sign a form while verbally confirming that it was probably covered. My appointment began over 15 minutes late due to these issues. Rather than receiving the standard exam, cleaning, and fluoride treatment, I was given only a partial cleaning due to the uncertainty of out-of-pocket costs. During checkout, the same coverage issues persisted with no resolution offered. I ultimately had to resolve their administrative error myself through a 15-minute phone call to my insurance provider, who confirmed my coverage had been continuously active. They also confirmed that they have no records of the dental office contacting them for verification, despite their claims of having called. Jordan, the dental hygienist, provides quality clinical care. However, the administrative shortcomings significantly detract from the overall patient experience. It's disappointing when patients must handle basic office functions that should be routine for a dental practice. If you're looking for timely, competent, and overall great staff (both front-desk and clinical) at a dental office I'd search elsewhere.

Negative experience: If I could give this dental practice zero stars, I certainly would. It is the most ridiculous dental office I've ever visited. I was in desperate need of a cleaning, so I made an appointment at JFD's Ventura location as a new patient. In addition to the 25+ pages of documentation I had to fill out and sign online, a total that is beyond absurd, I had to sign another 10 forms in the office. This included multiple pages of paperwork affirming I would actually pay these guys when I was done. That means they must get stiffed on payments by patients all the time. That's not my problem. I showed up early for my appointment, and the guy at the front was as friendly and welcoming as a dragon from Game of Thrones. This guy must hate his job because he has the personality of an unflushed toilet. After waiting for 15 minutes (also ridiculous), I was taken back for a X-rays and an exam, and then was told I had TO RETURN ANOTHER DAY for my cleaning. Seriously? I have never been a new patient at a dental practice and NOT received a cleaning. To the office's credit, office manager Jennifer Valadez arranged for me to return the following today at 9:00 a.m. for the cleaning. Fine. And I did, but guess what? Even after arriving early for my appointment, I was kept waiting...and waiting...and waiting some more before I was taken back for my cleaning. Mr. GOT Receptionist asked me to pay for my portion, and then blamed me when the office's credit card reader malfunctioned. Really? He actually expected me to wait there while he fixed it. That's a hard pass, so I suggested remitting payment once my appointment had concluded. Then the hygienist did a very poor job on the polishing, spending literally 45 seconds doing it. I asked here, "That's it? You only spend 45 seconds polishing patients' teeth?" Give me a break. When I complained to her, she reluctantly agreed to spend two minutes polishing my teeth. Geez. Worst cleaning ever. Finally, after signing even more forms, I paid and got out of there. I've never seen a dental practice conduct business this way. It boggles the mind, and it was such a miserable experience, I seriously doubt I will return.

Positive experience: These guys have been providing me good, professional dental care since they first came to Ventura some 15 years ago. They've done a pretty good job of maintaining their high quality, personable customer service while their business has grown a lot.

I have had nothing but positive experiences. The staff is accommodating, professional and knowledgeable. I would recommend these dental professionals to anyone.

Positive experience: Root canal was successful. Staff was friendly and professional. Doctor was excellent. I had no worries in his abilities. It was a bit spendier than another clinic. But that place had horrible reviews. I'd rather go somewhere that has good reviews but costs a bit more. It's worth the piece of mind.

Negative experience: Do not go here. When I went for my appointment they demanded that I pay them $250 cash or I couldn't have my emergency tooth extractions. The lady next to me, they are demanding money from her and she was an old lady and she was crying. The things that are going on in this dental office is horrific and cannot be tolerated M K Knmmmmmm

Fantastic experience: I’ve ALWAYS have had bad experiences with dentists, which is why I allowed my teeth to get so bad. At The Johnson Family Dental, they not only made me feel comfortable at every visit, the dentist “Dr. G” made sure that I was comfortable on the chair. She was so gentle, it became very easy for me to TRUST her working on my teeth. On the day she was not at work, another dentist prescribed me the antibiotics I needed. Any likes or dislikes, Dr. G makes sure she writes it in my chart, so not only she can read it, but her assistants, as well as other dentist can read it. I always had to take anxiety medication or be put to sleep for my treatments with other dental groups, but at Johnson Family Dental, I know I will be comfortable and in good hands, no matter which dentist treats me. The office has all the updated tools and equipment necessary to run a top notch dental office. With this, I highly recommend Johnson Family Dental. What do you have to lose? If your unhappy you can always take your business somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: A new crown which I had received elsewhere, came off, and my dentist was unavailable to replace it, so I went to Johnson Family Dental. I know them already because I regularly go there for their wonderful hygienist, Karin Cross. I had said I would be happy with any dentist there, so I was assigned Dr Scott (I think, not sure). Anyway, he was amazing. I could tell he really knew what he was doing, and even though it was an uncomfortable process adjusting the new crown so it fit perfectly, I so appreciated his expertise. Thank you so much to Johnson Family Dental for being there when I needed you…for a very fair prize as well.

Negative experience: They talked me into crowns I did not need and now the crowns are failing within five years of having them done. Get a second opinion even if you "trust" your dentist. You have to live with the work they perform, they do not.

Negative experience: My intention was to become a new client for the Johnson Family Clinic - Ventura Midtown but NOT after my interaction with their receptionist today - I will look somewhere else! Here is the background: I filled-up their new patients online forms the day before and got a confirmation email that the completed forms had been received. When i showed up for my appointment, the receptionist said that she did not have my info and that i should fill the forms up again. I showed her the confirmation email and asked her to look again for the completed forms. She then simply refused to look for them and that, if i wanted to be looked at, i would have to fill-up the forms again. Before going through with filling the forms again, i asked her what would be my insurance copay today - if any, she said that she did not know and would not until the appointment was completed. With this type of attitude (eg. customer comes last), i then decided to insist that she look for my completed forms before i spend the time to fill them up by hand. She took my request as being aggressive towards her. I decided to not waste anymore time talking to a non-responsive person and left. After all, I thought "dentists are a-dime-a-dozen". Are their dentists and hygienists any good - I will never find out as I am booking myself in another dental practice. Louis

Fantastic experience: Forget the bad reviews here. It seems there is too many "Karens" and hatters. This review is long over due. I have been coming to Johnson for years now. The dental team has always been very attentive and helpful. They always greet you with a smile and answer all my questions. Any time I have had trouble with my insurance (which seems to be the problem) they always help me resolve and get them to pay. They follow up with any questions or concerns and get me in right away when ever the family has dental emergency. The kids love coming for the balloons and their toothbrush. I will continue to come here as they are the best in Ventura!

I love coming here and of course always look forward to my cleanings with Karin, my teeth have never felt so good. Emergency appointments are always available and they work with my schedule. Negative experience: Dr D. left for Bakersfield, and he was a fabulous dentist. Our office in Port Hueneme closed and it has been difficult scheduling cleanings for our family. Quoted an amount for a crown in writing, then the day of the procedure said the amount was over $100 more. Actually argued with my insurance company about it over the phone (Even though a third party actually checks the benefits). Their rates are over what is reasonable and customary so you will pay even with good insurance for children's cleanings.

Negative experience: I am very disappointed with this place. The work that they do is reasonably good, although expensive. What really discourages me is how very bad they are about returning calls. They are about the worst that I have seen .

Fantastic experience: I’ve never liked going to the dentist, and they always make me feel comfortable and well taken care of. Dr. Luke is amazing, he is personable, listens to my questions and concerns, takes his time, and makes me feel heard. It’s so nice to have a provider that doesn’t just make you feel like another patient, but talks to you like a human. The hygienist is amazing, and so are the rest of the staff. I’ll never go to another dentist.

Negative experience: They're decent If you're just going to them for a cleaning. However, if you need fillings or any surgical dental work done STAY AWAY. They're sloppy and it's not just one dentist. I had to go get my filling fixed twice after one of their dentists made a mistake. I got my wisdom teeth removed and working with them through the insurance process was just a headache. Fortunately, my insurance was more supportive and helpful than Johnson Family Dental. After 5 months of this dentist office trying to screw me out of over $1000, they finally agreed to cooperate with my insurance. Always double check your statements, because they're just trying to get money from whoever will give it to them.

Negative experience: I was a passenger in a car crash that i almost died in. I lost 4 teeth. I went to Johnson family dental. They took off 4 of my top teeth they glued them back on as a bridge. The bottom teeth they took off 6 teeth they glued them back on. They were supposed to be permanent teeth. Now my teeth fell off and broke. Over $15,000 spent. They dont want to fix them. Warranty expired. Worst dentist ever dont go.

Dr.S And her assistant Chary Explored every option and came up with the best solution for my individual needs . I would highly recommend Johnson family dental. Fantastic experience: You are always greeted with a friendly smile and receive excellent customer service a the front desk. The Hygienist does an excellent job and is genuinely interested in the care and health of your teeth and offers other services to keep your teeth healthy.

Positive experience: We did have some miscommunication with the billing department but they were able to work through everything with us in the end. Other than this we had a great hygienist for our cleanings, she was very honest and informative which my wife and I appreciated. Would recommend, just make sure your insurance is 100% accepted beforehand.

Negative experience: I'm sorry, but this dentistry isn't it. I am behind on my Invisalign treatment by several months now because when I went in to get impressions done for a new retainer almost a year ago, (had lost some) my impressions were not done right. Not once, but twice. Yet, I was not notified of this. I had to call and ask both times why it had been almost a month without me receiving my new trays. Only then was I informed my impressions were not done right and had to be redone. This upset me since both times I went in for the impressions, the hygienist took my impressions literally about three times to "get it right". I am on one tray for months and have repeatedly have to call myself to ask for my new trays. When I call, I am told my trays have been in for a while, yet I am not notified. I changed the contact information to my personal cell and e-mail to ensure I would be directly contacted to avoid this. I called today, and again, my trays have been in for days. No phone call. I am set back by months now. I am a student working very hard to pay off my treatment and want to complete it. To top it off, when I go in to pick up my trays, it is an hour visit just for the delivery. I have to take time off of work for this. This is unacceptable and I do not recommend this establishment for your Invisalign treatment.

Fantastic experience: Excellent, professional, and friendly service! I was treated like a QUEEN and more. I usually go to their office in Santa Barbara, but do to illness and not able to drive too far, I was asked if i would mind going to their office in Ventura. I am very glad my decision to complete my visit in Ventura. My husband is also in need to make an appointment. Would like to thank Dr. Luke and Stephanie for their personal service regarding my partials. Most people hate to go to their dentist, well going to Johnson Family Dental is different. Thank you!!

Fantastic experience: I chose family Dental because of the location. It was a great choice. I get notifications just before my appointment time, waiting times are very short, and this visit they offered a mouth cancer scan. Very simple procedure. My visit was for a cleaning but I got xrays and a Dr.s visit. All to make sure of my dental health and no out of pocket expenses. Thank you Family Dental and the staff that takes care of me.
