Negative experience: Due to a clerical-insurance error on the end of Bull City Smiles I was denied care today because I refused to pay a $300 insurance-related clerical payment prior to receiving care. I was told by phone 1-2 weeks ago that I would be able to receive care and could address the insurance issue later. When I tried to check in for my dental procedure the person at the front desk tried to tell me that “our office manager had tried to reach out to me prior to my appointment.” Did they make contact no. Did they text me to let me know? No. Should I be expected to make a payment on their clerical error in order to get care? No. This is a a nice looking clinical space with kind dentists on the surface but all they care about is collecting their coins (even when the fault lies with them) instead of providing patient care. - a medical professional who also provides patient care

Fantastic experience: I had a time-sensitive dental emergency and left a message after hours, Katie called me back before they even opened and got me in that same morning. She was incredibly kind, calming, and genuinely focused on helping me. When I arrived, she made me feel at ease and reassured me they would do everything possible to address the issue quickly. Dr. Jorge was just as understanding and walked me through multiple options for treatment. Katie also coordinated a same-day referral to a specialist and clearly explained the costs upfront, which I really appreciated. Fantastic experience: Dr Bolton and the wonderful professionals at Bill City Smiles have taken care of my teeth since they opened (and even before that at Willowdale). I’ve had several dentists in 56 years, but Dr Bolton is the very best - and it shows in my smile. From the comfortable, welcoming, modern office to the gentle hygienists and excellent supporting staff, each visit is timely and pleasant. Thank you all for your hard work during these trying times of the pandemic.

Positive experience: I actually leave this review a little torn because they are so nice. But the partial I got is absolutely horrible. It does not clamp down at all like teeth should. It rests outside my real teeth and it hits on the outside edge of my teeth and can never clamp down. So instead of being able to chew my food I have to cut it with the side of my teeth in order to check on the real side of my teeth where I had someone else do implants. I hate wearing them. In fact I rarely ever do because they are so uncomfortable. That's probably because I'm used to implants but this chewing thing is horrendous. There is no way to chew with these 'teeth'. They would have to be made completely over again for it to work. I'm not sure why I had two impressions done if they weren't going to make them so that they actually chew. I'm a newbie at partials so maybe I just expected too much but i don't think so. Like I started by saying, they are wonderful people and it pains me to leave this but if you get a partial I'm sure they have them made elsewhere. Take your time make sure they actually do what you intend. Maybe I'm expecting too much by thinking they should allow me to check. I dunno. Doesn't seem unreasonable but they (the teeth) are awful and I wasted way, way TOO much money on them. Oh and they don't do much for the aesthetics because there's a big silver part that sticks out in front of my teeth to hold it on so forget about smiling. Anyway, be picky, take your time. The staff here is awesome, just wish I could say the same for whomever did the 'teeth' and I use that term loosely because their more like a façade.

Fantastic experience: I love Dr Bolton and her staff they are AMAZING it's like visiting your family they are professional kind courteous helpful the atmosphere is peaceful and calm I would recommend them to anyone they stand behind the work and work with you she will remain my Dentist as long as services are needed because I know I will be in excellent care

Negative experience: Sadly I will not be returning here. Service and cleaning was ok but they quoted me $20 or less for my responsibility. I got the bill and it was $275 AFTER $165 received from the insurance for a cleaning and bite wing xrays that I tried to decline but was told they wouldn't see me if I didn't. Their response was 0 accountability, just whoops it was only an estimate sometimes the insurance doesn't tell us everything you owe the full amount and what method would I like to use to pay. Their bill was more than 13x their estimate.

Fantastic experience: I have dental PTSD and Bull City Smiles completely cured that! The hygienists and Dr. Bolton are all so kind and patient while explaining treatment options to me, which I really appreciated. I recommend Bull City Smiles to everyone who asks for a local dentist recommendation!

Negative experience: I really liked this office. My family has gone here for years. But recently I had two fillings refilled after they fell out in close succession. Should have been relatively easy process according to them, but I know I’ve had issues with numbing agents before, and warned them about this prior. Not only did I experience pain during the procedure and extreme swelling post, both times I had to come back because the filling was not filed down enough and my bite was not level. I completely understand that the swelling, etc. complicated the procedure, but after it happened the first time they were not any more patient or careful the second time. After having to come back the second time, they also weren’t apologetic and the assistant was rude when I asked about being concerned that my nearby tooth had been cracked. My family and I will not be going back there and my colleagues saw how much pain the second filling caused, so they will also not be advising anyone to go there. I still think the office is nice overall and Dr. Bolton is great, but she is hard to book.

But this week I had an issue with my crown (and was leaving in 24 hours to go out of the country). Bull City was responsive, quick to get me seen and completely fixed my issue which essentially saved me from being in pain during my travels- a huge relief! Beyond thankful for their staff!!!!

Needed to have a lot of work done(deep cleanings and fillings mainly) and after 5 visits so far I have to admit this is the best Dental practice I have ever been to. Fantastic experience: I have dental phobia and am soooo lucky to have found Bull City Smiles! My first issue was jaw pain, which my past dentist wanted to treat with drugs and shots. Dr Bolton assessed my jaw and recommended a much more conservative treatment, which worked! On to the pandemic. I feel this practice is taking the virus very seriously, so I can go for my regular checkups with confidence. Dr Bolton and her staff are always courteous and friendly. That's important, but her professional expertise is really what keeps me returning to this practice.

Fantastic experience: I was petrified of the dentist and had avoided going for years. Bull City Smiles was so amazing in helping me over come my fear. They walked me through everything they were going to do, broke up my cleaning appointments so I wasn't overwhelmed, listened and accommodated my concerns and fears, and were incredibly gentle. I didn't even feel the Novocaine shots at all! I can't recommend them enough. Everyone, including the front desk staff, billing managers, hygienists, and doctors, is amazing!

Positive experience: I have enjoyed coming here for nearly 10 years and have not had a bad experience until today. My feedback is for Dr. Jorge, who came in at the end of my cleaning so briefly and spoke so unclearly that I didn't realize he had recommended a follow-up treatment until the hygienist was walking me through how the process would go and I was being shuffled over to schedule it. Dr. Jorge: take the time to speak clearly with your patients to make sure they understand what you are saying, especially if you are prescribing treatment. I understand you must be busy, but don't rush out of the room. All of the hygienists I've seen here have been exceptional. I always recommend BCS to my friends, though now I will caveat it with this experience.

Negative experience: Web search says that they offer sedation and they do not. I have called several places trying to find a place that accepts Medicaid or just offer sedation Willing to accept a new patient for emergency tooth removal three pages of names and numbers I have called none of them match what the web search shows

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a patient at Bull City Smiles since my husband and I moved here in 2021, and I’ve generally had great experiences. In fact, I can’t imagine switching away from Drs. Bolton and Jorge. On previous visits, I saw two different hygienists—both were excellent. However, during my most recent appointment, I was treated by Amanda and will be requesting my usual hygienist going forward. Despite my diligent brushing and flossing routine, my teeth tend to collect a lot of tartar. Other hygienists at Bull City have used the ultrasonic scaler for most of the cleaning, finishing with the manual scaler. Amanda, on the other hand, used the manual scaler for almost the entire procedure and seemed unaware of the discomfort she was causing, especially when scraping under the gum line. She chatted throughout the appointment, which is usually pleasant, but I would have appreciated a check-in about my comfort level. Now, 30 hours after my cleaning, I’m still so sore that I can only eat soft foods. This has been a frustrating experience.

Negative experience: I will not return to Bull City Smiles after my next visit. I'm a first time client. This review is for two visits, a cleaning and a crown, post-root canal. I worked with Dr. Kaur David. My first visit was standard. Could have had a friendlier dental hygienist, but she was very thorough. Saw Dr. Kaur briefly, who recommended a root canal/crown "to save the tooth." Got the procedure and returned promptly. My second visit for the crown began the same. New dental hygienist, who was very friendly and gave off warm energy. I felt at ease. However, I didn't enjoy working with Dr. David. I felt rushed, or talked over. i.e. I felt a seam gap during crown placement - her response was it was difficult as the cavity was so deep. This was the first I heard of such from her. Now here's why I won't be going back: At the end of the procedure, as she's leaving mentions I need to get work done aka cavities fixed. I'm alarmed - at my last visit no one mentioned this. She looks at my chart again and admits to her mistake. Again, I feel the same "rushed over" vibe. DH escorts me to the waiting room, after giving me pain killers. That's it. No post-op care instructions, no what to expect with a crown, to do or not to do, no pamphlet - nada. Well, again I feel something off with my crown. It's a raw, rough texture, and I'm worried. At payment, I express concern to the receptionist. She replies it's inflammation as the"gums are going to be tender." Since I already felt a seam gap at the crown placement, I'm not assuaged. She goes to ask the doctor in the back, who relies through her, it's just "tender" and "swollen." I kept saying my gum isn't sore. The receptionist says she's not a doctor, which I totally understand. I just needed to know if my crown is about to fall out or if food is going to get into the area. We speak about 5 minutes. At no point does the doctor come out. I also have questions about a different future procedure that I needed clarification on, but again, I couldn't get a clear answer on that either, and I'm tired. Once in the car, I'm about to leave, but change my mind. I'd been googling "post-op crown care" and "what to do with a new crown" and just stop. I shouldn't be self-educating after a major procedure. I go back inside to speak with someone about my dissatisfaction with Dr. Kaur David /the second-half of my procedure, and miscommunication. With the same receptionist, I say my peace. Her response was "I'm sorry you feel this way, and that you perceived Dr. Kaur and your time here that way. I'm sure she didn't mean it." Just wow. How insensitive. No accountability at all from the office. No empathy to my real concern about my tooth. Another DH chimes in if I brush my teeth the feeling may go away. She also informs me how to not floss, and gives me a post-op crown form. At the front desk, after I choose to come back inside, I finally get some post-op info. I leave. An hour later, Dr. Kaur calls profusely apologizing for leaving while I still had questions. I'm irritated as my raw texture concern gets the same "it's tender gums" reply. I'm upset no one went over post-op care and I could have messed up the work unknowingly. She's shocked as the DH was supposed to do that, my case was difficult and long, and such. Quite frankly, that wasn't my problem as a client. It doesn't excuse oversight. Work can be done or it can't. I respect professional advice, pre-operation, not in an apology call. I would have gladly considered other options or offices. She did apologize for me "feeling bad." The kicker is, at home, something actually fell off my tooth. The raw texture disappeared. A friend with a crown tells me it's leftover cement. (See photo) Their dentist scrapped theirs off - Something anyone could have checked before I left or warned me about, if someone listened to me. Would have spared me worry. Humans error, but ownership would have gone a long way. Responses to mistakes and interpersonal relations matter to me. The work done was quality. My overall client experience was not.

Fantastic experience: Bull City Smiles is a great dental office everyone there is great took my husband there after he was told by another dentist he would have to have the tooth pulled and new bone implants put in we decided on a second opinion and Doctor Jorge checked him out at Bull City Smiles and discovered he didn't need the tooth pulled out he saved the tooth by doing a cap and a bridge we are so greatful to them and will be going to them from now on for all of our dental work

Fantastic experience: I never in my lifetime thought I would have a pleasant experience going to the dentist. I stand corrected because this has been the most pleasurable experience ever. Dr. Bolton & her staff are truly amazing. The state of the art technology, the accomodations while waiting for my crown was way beyond my expectation. My crown is a perfect fit. Thank you so much. Fantastic experience: I recommend this dental office. The facility is clean, and everyone is friendly. My previous review was three years ago. Update: The front desk staff and both dentists are pleasant however the dental hygienist I recently saw was not which is interesting considering the practice’s website states she leads the morning prayer and she has a religious figure in the patient space. I will not be back, our interaction was that uncomfortable. The disrespectful way she spoke to me was unnecessary.

Fantastic experience: New to the area 2 weeks now. Broke a tooth, needing assistance (one of the life’s immediate needs), went to a separate care facility, they recommended bull city smiles. Arrived a few minutes later, they took me in off the street and 1 hour later pulled the tooth and on my way. It’s those life situations that rarely occur but when they do you are helpless and need help. This was a god send situation for me.

Fantastic experience: Dr Bolton is the best dentist I’ve ever had. My son and I went to her for years starting out when we didn’t have dental insurance. They provided an option for us to be able to pay for the services and then when we got insurance, even though they were out of network, they files the claims for us. The dental office is very welcoming with a comfortable waiting room. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. We loved our dental hygienists who took very good care of us during cleaning and X-rays. Dr Bolton is genuinely kind and gentle, making going to the dentist an enjoyable experience, which had not been my experience in the past. When I moved to Asheville, I would drive the three hours to an appointment with Bull City Smiles because I loved them sooo much. Now that I’m out of state, they are still so great with helping me get established at a new dentist by sending my records. I wish I could move them up with me but alas I am out to find comprable care in my new location. Durham is lucky to have such a fantastic provider and wonderful person to provide them dental care.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best decision I ever made. Dr Bolton and Dr Jorge are the best. The Hygienist and assistants are top notch and everyone makes that dreadful feeling of visiting the dentist non existent. I had extensive work done and honestly pain free, they truly want you to be comfortable and relaxed. Finally, the girls at the front desk. WOW is the first thing that comes to mind. Katie has gone above and beyond for me countless times, even when she didn’t have to. I felt immediately the warmth of the room with their smiles and honest genuine greeting as soon as you enter. I could sit and chat with them like I’ve known them forever. I now live 3 hours away and gladly take the trip for my annual appointments. I will not go anywhere else period!

Negative experience: Bridgette Johnson here. Tried to make an appointment for tooth pain and the lady that answered the phone mad me feel like such an inconvenience as if my tooth pain or me just wasn’t welcomed here. Very unhelpful with everything question I asked but hey I’m sure there are plenty of dental offices that will gladly take me and my family.

Fantastic experience: Dr.Bolton saved the day. I realized over night that I had a tooth infection. I called first thing and she squeezed me in by 1:00. I tend to get very anxious but Dr. Bolton always makes me feel safe. Thank you for your quick care and kind attention. Problem solved.

I also went through a time where myself was on the back burner because I had kids that came before me. Bull City Smiles is wonderful and cane through for me! When I first met Dr. Bolton and her team they loved me and I could tell! Dr. Bolton listened to my story and was very humble. She is very professional, knowledgeable and has amazing bedside manner. Her and her hygienists have done amazing work getting me back where I needed to be. They put in a lot of time and work into these teeth and now I am smiling big! The other dentist in her office are fabulous too! I have seen them a few times as well within the years. The office is very clean and tidy. The hygienists and assistants, each one, have been amazing as far as explaining what they are doing and being sensitive when needed. Katie and the front desk team are all very sweet too! Katie is very helpful with referrals, scheduling and insurance. I have to name her specifically because she was very helpful throughout the whole treatment process. She is very knowledgeable and professional too. I loved working with her! Sorry if this is too long, but I am a customer service person… and I am very glad that me and my family found Bull City Smiles. This office is highly recommended by me if you are looking for a dentist or hygienist that will take fabulous care of your teeth for a great price!

My hygienist Shawnetta is exceptionally good at her job, always telling me what she’s working on, making sure I’m comfortable, and going about the cleaning in a gentle but thorough and professional manner. When I needed an emergency crown, they worked me into their busy schedule right away. I feel lucky to have them!

Fantastic experience: I am a huge scardy-cat when it comes to dentists -- but Bull City Smiles has changed that! They are THE BEST dentist practice I've ever experienced! I discovered them a few years ago, and have been doing my regular check-ups ever since! The entire staff is friendly, kind, and professional -- I highly recommend them -- especially if you are scared of dentists! They will make you comfortable and welcomed!

Fantastic experience: Dr Bolton & her DAII, Kim, were incredible today. I had to get 2 crowns & was quite nervous. They calmed me right down & I felt beautifully taken care of the entire time. Highly recommend 10 out of 10!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic office! I've been several times for routine cleanings and the front desk staff is always welcoming and efficient, and I never have to wait long. They are very accommodating when I've needed to shift my schedule and my appointments are always quick and pleasant. All staff members I've seen have been both efficient and thorough. This is the most comfortable I've ever been visiting a dentist office. My sister visited from out of town once and had a dental emergency - this office even worked her in last minute and really helped out. I believe they provide excellent quality care!

Negative experience: The experience at this establishment regarding communication was subpar. After waiting for five- six months for my appointment, I was informed that they do not accept my insurance. Interestingly, back in November , a representative assured me that they did indeed accept my type of insurance. Trusting this information, I called the day before my appointment to reschedule, only to be told that my insurance was not accepted, and I would need to pay out of pocket. Throughout the past couple of months, I diligently followed up with them to ensure my X-rays were sent over, but no one mentioned any issues until I contacted them in the month of my appointment. Overall, this experience was highly disappointing and a significant waste of my time.

Fantastic experience: I love this practice! The doctors are amazing, the Hygienists wonderful, and office staff friendly, courteous and professional! I was so pleased to find them and brought my whole family to the practice. Everyone is happy, from my 7 yo child, through my teens and husband. 7 years later we are still very happy and recommending them to all who are in need of caring, skilled and conscientious providers.

Fantastic experience: Our hygienist is always so warm and conversational--but besides that, she is also knowledgable. I can ask her any question and know I'm getting a solid answer. Dr. Bolton was cheerful and helpful with our 4yo daughter, and she solved my own issue by adjusting my night guard. We always have a good experience here. Also, my kiddo got a token for a free toy from their treasure tower. It made our day. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Bull City Smiles for years. Dr. Bolton and her staff make you feel like family. She and her team are very friendly and welcoming. I literally leave out of her office with a smile on every visit. The staff is very professional, energetic, funny, and most of all do the job well done. Fantastic experience: Without a doubt, the best experience I've ever had with a dental practice. I avoided the dentist for 15 years. Don't be like me. After experiencing some gum and tooth pain earlier this year I finally had to confront my dental phobia and see the dentist. I'd heard so many positive reviews of Bull City Smiles that I figured they would be my best bet, as someone who suffered from dental anxiety. After X-rays, it turned out I didn't have any cavities or any other real issues, just a fair bit of plaque buildup that needed addressing. I also needed my wisdom teeth out, which I had done in July 2023. Again, don't be like me and wait until you're 35 to do these things. My experiences at Bull City Smiles have been so astonishingly good, I don't think I could recommend anyone else.

Fantastic experience: out of my 6 decades of life and very many dentists, I had never been privileged to a dentist as truly caring and kind, while being so great at her work, as Dr. BOLTON! I discovered with her practice an AMAZING TEAM and a truly AMAZINGGGGGGG Dr. BOLTON!!!! she was just as kind and caring as she was talented and attentive... I could not be happier and more grateful for her dental work on me!!! (and she was also by far the most gentle dentist I ever had in taking her time and being so gentle in numbing me... all to lesser my pain... instead of rushing it as most dentists sadly do !) Fantastic experience: I really hate dental work. I have been going to this practice for a while and needed an emergency crown before a trip. Dr. Jorge fit me in the day before leaving and executed a perfect crown with the best dental experience I have ever had- low anxiety, no pain, no after pain, excellent work! I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Jorge for a crown!

Fantastic experience: Best experience I have had at the dentist hands down. I am someone that has extreme dental anxiety from past experiences. Today was my 1st time going back to the dentist in 5 years. It was night and day from my past experiences. Everyone was extremely friendly. My hygienist, Janelle, was so patient with me and took her time to explain everything, very gentle when it came time to clean too. Even the doctor was patient and explained everything we were going to do. It feels so good to have my teeth clean again and I am actually looking forward to my next visit. My wife had a great visit too. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Dentist or Angel? Both! All my life I have had anxiety and fear because of bad early experiences with dentists, related to an immunity to the pain drugs available in the past. Dr. Bolton made me believe in painless dentistry. The office has the most up-to-date technology on hand, as well as a thorough knowledge of options for patients with special needs...be they physical, mental or emotional...or in my case, all of the above. During my recent visits to Dr. Bolton's office, it has been very obvious to me that every person on staff - from the front office, to the assistants, to Dr. Bolton herself - is genuinely concerned about me, my health and the experience I have in the practice from the moment I hit the door until the moment I leave. Every member of my family and every friend I can have any influence with will be a patient at Bull City Smiles. Fantastic experience: I’m a new patient here and had my cleaning, new patient x-rays, and a small cavity filled recently. Every single person I interacted with was wonderful! They’re all very kind and friendly (which makes all the difference I think) and are knowledgeable and thorough. I had very short wait times on both visits, and was in and out in under 30 min for my filling. Anna & Katie are exactly the type of people you want to interact with on the phone and when you walk in the door (so friendly, patient, and helpful). Heather explained insurance and coverage patiently and compassionately. I’m convinced Janelle got my teeth the cleanest they’ve ever been (seriously). Dr. Jorge was friendly and patient, he didn’t seem rushed at all (as some drs do) and gave me a lot of space to ask questions. He and all the staff continually make sure you’re comfortable all along the way, especially Chloe who was his assistant (I’m not sure that’s her correct title) during my filling today - she put me at ease right away. (Side note: The staff was flexible to fit me in sooner when I called with a concern. When I said I’d have to move some things around as a stay at home mom they offered to put on a movie for my kids. I didn’t end up bringing them with me but it shows the next level of care and thoughtfulness of the staff.)

Fantastic experience: Another WONDERFUL experience at Bull City Smiles! It started with the receptionist knowing my name and checking me very quickly. Shawnetta was out on family leave so I was a little nervous of who else would be doing my appointment but Nina was great!! She was super friendly and professional! She kept me informed about what she was doing and why she was doing it, she even was super nice about the prevenative care steps I needed to take moving forward. Additionally, she make great small talk and my doctor followed suit as we talked Tarheel basketball while he confirmed the work she completed. They really have things figured out at BullCity and I would recommend them to anyone and I really don't see myself going anywhere else ever.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Bolton and her entire team provide excellent professional care to patients. They set very high standards for outstanding dental work. If lab returns a crown or veneer that is not up to Dr. Bolton’s expectation, then she will recommend sending it back so the fit and appearance are perfect for patient comfort and best smile possible.

Fantastic experience: Had a tooth pulled while conscious for the first time today. Of course I was nervous. I don't do so well with that. Dr. Jorge injected local anesthetic and Chloe administered nitrous. With the two I was totally fine. They did an excellent job and I didn't experience any pain. Grateful for the time and care they both took to answer my questions and make sure that I was comfortable.

Fantastic experience: Kim was a breath of fresh air on a Monday morning, she was awesome. Kim and Dr. Bolton answered all my questions without making me feel rushed. Every staff member was nice. Katie was so helpful and explained everything in detail. It's nice to finally find a dental office that has the total package.

Fantastic experience: If you are uneasy about going to the dentist during a pandemic...don't be, at least not at this office! Clean, fast, but still caring! This is only my 2nd visit since our recent move but this will be my official dentist team! I wish them nothing but success! (The offices are modern and once again CLEAN!) Chris is always so helpful and she truly goes above and beyond with making sure my appointments, insurance, and billing all line up to fit my needs and treatment and Dr. Jorge is the truth!! He’s like the Michangelo of dentists lol. I wish I could remember the hygienist name he works with because she is just as amazing at her job. Fantastic experience: The staff member that I was seen by was amazing. I could tell, she really took her job seriously and has fun at the same time. Great she let made sure I understood everything that was going on with my mouth and overall made me really comfortable. Disclaimer, this was my first visit but the lady was attended to me before the doctor was amazing.

Fantastic experience: The staff was amazing and there system is so easy to understand and navigate. My hygienist Shawnetta has to the BEST in the world. She will go back over her work 3 or 4 times to make sure perfection was created. I'm limited to only given 5 stars. Hopefully you will give your 5 as well after your visit!

Fantastic experience: I am so glad I moved my daughter to this practice. She was feeling overwhelmed during her appointment today and the dental hygienist was AMAZING. She showed my daughter everything she was going to use and let her touch the tools/interact with them to help her feel more at ease. As soon as my daughter recognized her needs and boundaries would be respected, she opened up and had a great time. My daughter was sad to leave because, and I quote, "everyone was so nice and I'm going to miss them".
