Fantastic experience: Dr. G and his team have always been extremely professional, flexible and friendly. The team have been great taking care of all my cleanings and alignment treatment. Would definitely recommend for a solid dental team they can count on.

Fantastic experience: Very nice clean and bright Dental Practice. Pleasant and conducive atmosphere with two sweet young ladies who welcome you in to make sure all your paperwork is correct. Emory was very sweet and welcoming as she gave step by step instructions as to what she would be doing. Dr. G is cool.

Fantastic experience: Dr. G. and his hygienist Emory worked great with me as I was a little uneasy about getting work done on my mouth. I had the same dentist for over 20 years and dreaded having to change dentists. All staff at the office that I encountered made me feel welcome and comfortable and when the time came for my exam Dr. G. explained everything and made me feel comfortable and the way he explained my treatment plan I felt that he cared about the well-being of my oral treatment and care.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Gyampo and his team are not only highly adept and professional, they're considerate and compassionate. Tooth extraction wasn't my favorite lived experience, but Dr. G had me laughing during the procedure. I healed very nicely and the care I received has been excellent. My tooth cleaning was also very thorough and painless. I already can tell my gums are healthier after a week. I'm really grateful for the healthcare and the pleasant office experience. They also made sure I was aware of and consented to every aspect of my treatment plan along the way. This includes knowing what my cost will be prior to the procedure. Everyone I've met there is kind and knowledgeable, and especially when I was a little nervous it's really nice to hear the laughter in the office. I was referred by my (very discerning) dad and I recommend him to everyone. P.S. Dr. Gyampo thanked his (fantastic) assistants every time he asked for something during my procedures. I really appreciate that about his character... And if I'm going to let someone pull the teeth out of my jaw, I especially value that quality.

Fantastic experience: I am so glad that I took a chance with Providence Smiles. I had been too, (2) other dentist and finally I heard some something that I hadn't heard. I needed 2 teeth pulled, one was broke off that was left from another dentist, and the other was Infected. Dr. Gyampo known as Dr. G. pulled both of them, and a few other things that needed attention immediately. I tell you, I feel so, so, much better. I was overwhelmed about Dr. G's professionalism of his work, his side seat manners is AWESOME, and his staff all (3) of them is like no other. next time I'll mention their names, but that Mya which runs the front desk WHEW!!! of course they all identified themselves, but I forgot there names. they are/were Kind, patient, and professional every step of They made ME feel assured of the work that was to done. Negative experience: I began going to this dentistry when they were fairly new, and at that time, the atmosphere felt welcoming and patient-focused. However, my recent experience has been disappointing and has shown a shift toward being more profit-driven rather than patient-centered. I recently called the office to see if I could have a filling on my front tooth redone after it chipped. After some back-and-forth, I was finally able to book an appointment. During scheduling, I explained the issue clearly. Shortly after, I received a call back from Dr. G stating he did not want to perform the service due to an insurance audit, claiming he would need to explain why he did a filling instead of a crown. This was frustrating because: My insurance covers fillings, not crowns. The chip was small and did not require a crown. The crown recommendation would have forced me to pay out-of-pocket unnecessarily when a filling was both cost-effective and sufficient. As a patient, I expect my provider to meet me where I am, especially when I make it clear that I need the most affordable and medically appropriate option. While Dr. G offered referrals, the overall tone and energy felt dismissive and far from the supportive atmosphere I once experienced here.

Fantastic experience: Both Emory, the hygienist, and Dr. G were very personable, thorough and efficient. I got a filling which was pain free, and quick, and my bite feels very even. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a dentist, look no further. Dr Gyampo and staff places a lot of interest on future mouth health as well as taking care of your immediate concerns. He has replaced 5 amalgams with tooth colored fillings in my case. Could not be happier. Latest visit 11/29/22 Dr Gyampo replaced a filling at gum line (decay above original filling). It was a front tooth. Amazing job! Tooth looks brand new. Lost a filling my previous dentist did. Same scenario as above. He is a magician, could not be happier!!!

Negative experience: I was told 100% of my routine cleaning would be covered through my insurance. Well, that wasn't the case and now I owe 250 dollars. It's funny too because they also tried to sell me a 360 dollar preventative teeth thing. So if I had said yes to that, I'd have a nice unexpected 600 dollar bill. Unbelievable.

Fantastic experience: The way they took care of me was first class. I've had some horrible experiences on this side of town. My appointment was on time, not a bunch of people in the lobby with the same appointment. Dentist and hygienist was very thoroughly, thoughtful, and swift. Front desk closed me out with ease and speed.

Fantastic experience: My experiences at dental offices have always not been pleasant ones. However, it all changed when l visited Providence Smiles of Durham. First, Dr Kwame was super friendly and calmed my nerves with his smiles while providing me with an in-depth explanation of my dental options. I will highly recommend this dental office to everyone to experience dental hospitality at its best. Great job to all the staff especially Emery!

Fantastic experience: This is one of the best experiences I’ve had a dentist not only were they clean, they took the time to answer every question I had from copayment, how would the procedure be done and I was glad I let them extract my wisdom tooth I’ve been in minimal pain and literally have no swelling, heavy bleeding or discomfort.

I was looking to establish care, and can frankly say I haven’t encountered a more professional and warm dental office. The entire care team, from the receptionist to the main doctor were all very thorough and even understanding when I mentioned I needed to leave early for work. My dental hygienist Emory was very attentive and skilled and took her time explaining to me everything she did, why she did it and what she recommended- and the same was true for Dr. Kwame, who was very attentive to my concerns. When I arrived in August 2024 for a routine checkup, dental hygienist Emory identified a serious condition that needed immediate attention. Dr. G confirmed the situation, gave expert advice, and helped me feel confident in my decision going forward. I could go on and on about the time, care and empathy shown by the entire staff as they accompanied me on my journey of oral surgery, restorative procedures, and improved dental hygiene. I felt listened to and that I had a voice. Here in June 2025, I am free of dental pain and more than that. What a wonderful surprise to see Dr. G, his dear family, and members of the Providence Smiles Dental Care team supporting the West End Carroll Street Park Juneteenth celebration! Proof that the practice is vested in the Durham community. This means the world to me. I am in awe and have so much to smile about! Thank you for the culture of care, Dr. G et al. You are amazing!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been 3 times in the last 6 months (cleaning, wisdom teeth extraction, fillings). The staff is excellent and the office is very nice. Would absolutely recommend!

Negative experience: Do not go here! Everyone at the place was nice but the doctor tried to sell me things I didn’t need and that insurance doesn’t cover. I also got a cleaning and asked to for the doctor to go over my treatment plan after that and he didn’t. He said he would email me and didn’t even go over it in person or go over my x rays which I’ve never heard of Being done that way before. Also, I never got the email…

Negative experience: Patients, be aware! I go to the dentist every six months, like clockwork. I brush and floss my teeth twice per day… Dr. Gyampo is building a business and profit is supreme. I first saw Dr. Gyampo in November 2024… he smoothed the existing composite. After he finished, he coded the appointment in the system and let me know that insurance wasn't going to cover the entire visit - which was over $500. He asked me “How do you feel about paying $100?”. In all of my years having composite removed and new composite added, I've NEVER paid more than my deductible - which is generally no more than $35. Again, Dr. Gyampo only smoothed the existing composite - and didn't remove or add anything. I paid the $100… I went in for my six-month cleaning a few weeks ago and I have a $137 balance… my insurance rejected the claim because of how Dr. Gyampo and team coded the November appointment. Profit ranks supreme at Providence Smiles. Moving along… I get my teeth cleaned. Hygienist asked if I wanted fluoride at the end of the visit, but, failed to tell me about the $30 fee until after she applied it. Not to mention, Dr. Gyampo told me I needed my wisdom teeth removed… never have I ever had issues with my wisdom teeth or had a dentist tell me I need them removed. He shows me pictures of my wisdom teeth and points out that cavities are forming... Suggested I go ahead and get them removed... Also, tried to sell me on a post-extraction patch service that he “recommends to all his patients who get wisdom removals”. He let me know that insurance would not cover the costs of said patchwork, and, I'd be responsible for $150 per tooth, on top of what insurance doesn't cover. Look, profit is really important to Dr. Gyampo. Be careful! In response to Dr. Gyampo’s note below, editing to add: You will not paint the picture of me looking for “low cost” or cheap service. I have insurance and I expect providers to have morals and code things appropriately. There's no way I should've had a $237 out-of-pocket cost for you smoothing existing composite. You and your team are exuding predatory and shady practices. Stop it!

Fantastic experience: I appreciate my hygienist taking care of me for my 1st appointment in a long time. Emory was gentle and kind in her approach. I appreciate the staff ss well as the doc taking care of me and my husband. It's locally black owned too!

Fantastic experience: Staff was nice and had me in and out faster than most dentists I’ve been to in the city. I loved that instead of assuming I knew things, the dr and hygienist took time to explain what they were talking about and what they were looking for in simple terms. Definitely coming back to discuss getting an aligner like Invisalign. Update: 2024-25 - in December of 2023 I came in to start my aligner treatment. They helped me understand financing and options and were helpful during the entire process! I finally took them out today, January 2025 and I love my smile again. They took care to also note any problems they may have noticed along the way too. I trust them with my smile.

Fantastic experience: Dr. G got me in last minute and made an emergent procedure happen in a few hours. His is the best dentist I have had in my 50 years on this earth. I highly recommend him and his staff

Negative experience: This is a complicated situation but I have to share my truth to warn others. I will update in anything changes, but this clinic caused permanent damage to FOUR of my front teeth. When they were just my dentist, everything was fine. The problem is when I expressed interest in orthodontia, Dr. G, I believe overextended himself. He convinced me that he was more than equipped to handle my case with invisalign and that there was no need for a second opinion. I really wish that was the case, because unfortunately I was a complicated situation. The main issue that I see now is that I should have met with a dedicated orthodontist before moving forward here. I trusted Dr. G because I had gotten to know him as a sweet and fun guy but this turned out to be a mistake. When presented with the treatment, I was given a clear 'this is the option' when in reality, there were several ways to proceed with my treatment. One involved permanently shaving down four of my teeth. I have since met with many orthodontists (Dr. Mack, Dr. Severt, Dr. Wilson, Dr. Jones, Dr. Frazier-Bowers, the list goes on). Not only was this damage avoidable, but it is irreversible and now will need to be repaired because my case required other teeth to be removed which has now created too much space. It's heartbreaking anytime we regret trusting a health care provider, but this was especially painful because of how expensive, time consuming and permanent these decisions were. Dr. G was somewhat amenable to my decision to leave and in some ways, cooperated with me moving forward. However, it was several meetings before he was finally willing to refund me for the cost I had spent for a failed treatment and permanent damage. I tried on several occasions to request that he spend a small amount of money (a few hundred dollars) to pay for the restorative work that I will now have to maintain for the rest of my life because of this, but he refused. He was insistent that we work with attorneys and ultimately required that I sign paperwork that I would never sue him in order to get my full refund. I thought this could be a reasonable request between humans, but ultimately I decided it wasn't worth fighting even longer to ask for his support. This whole situation was avoidable if we had spent 5 minutes talking about the fact that I had multiple options and that this tooth damaging was irreversible, but he did not provide that. I have to live this the consequences for the rest of my life so I just want to warn folks here and at all dentists to ask about the trade-offs for all treatments before you pursue them. Also, probably just go to an orthodontist and not a general dentist. This whole experience have been very traumatic but I'm grateful for my new orthodontic and restorative team who are helping me overcome the situation.

Negative experience: Unclear communication from them. I asked very specifically if they are in network with MetLife and then waited a month and a half for an appointment with them. Upon arrival, they informed me that they “accept MetLife“, but are not in network with them, and that my cleaning Would be $180 dollars. No thank you :)

I do not enjoy going to the dentist and the kindness and empathy, in addition to fantastic dental care I received from Dr. G, Chelsea, Alisa, and Daniel made my experience positive and pleasant!! Negative experience: EDIT: I am editing this because we got a second opinion on tons of work they wanted to do and were told half the things they wanted to do were unnecessary and/or overpriced. So not only are they incompetent but they are complete frauds. Please go elsewhere. Switching my review. They act nice and professional… until they tried to charge me almost a thousand dollars for their own screw up. They forced me and my wife to do all the work to prove to them that they should not have charged insurance for a procedure and definitely should not have charged us after they messed up. They are either liars and committing fraud. Or they are completely incompetent, which you do not want from any form of health care. Dentists are a dime a dozen, find somewhere else to go.

Fantastic experience: I’m currently a dental student at UNC and Dr. Gyampo gave one of the most engaging presentations we’ve received. I greatly appreciated his candid honesty in building a practice and patient care. He also provided great advice on how to improve as a dental student and transition to life as a practicing dentist.

Fantastic experience: These guys have been my dentist for two years. I have to drive a little bit of distance for their services. Dr. Baldwin, Dr. G, Alisa and the team are great. Keep you at ease the whole time. Young and friendly team from the moment you walk in. Not your typical dentist office. Nice music and ambience. They will even let you watch Netflix of Hulu just so you can take your mind off of the procedure. I highly recommend them.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience here with Emory and Dr. Baldwin for my first visit. They were so gentle and took the time to explain the reasoning behind the different recommendations and made sure I was doing well every step of the way. It was especially cool how they used 3D technology to show me exactly what was going on with my teeth. The office itself is so inviting and calming with great music in the waiting room. I am glad we found this office!

Fantastic experience: Chelsea, Dr. G. and Dr. B. have been nothing short of excellent throughout my root canal and crown install process. Speaking as a person who is averse to pain/dentistry, at no point did anything ever hurt and they made me feel 100% comfortable. 10/10 would recommend!

A previous bad dentist trip at a different practice led me here to get a second opinion and I’m sure glad I did because they not only saved me a ton of money and time, but also saved me from unnecessary teeth procedures that could have led to more work needed. I appreciated my hygienist Emory checking in with me, talking me through each step, and educating me with patience and grace. I was fortunate to work with Dr Baldwin as well as Dr G because they got in me scheduled same day for a procedure. Negative experience: Went in for a filling that was part of a treatment plan. At the last minute they wanted to change the treatment plan for something else and said they had to do it without checking with insurance coverage first and offered me financing instead. They pressured me into making a last-minute choice and it felt incredibly sleazy. I had been a patient for over a year, but I left and won't be returning.

Every single person there is super kind, easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and very thorough. I’ve never had a dentist and staff spend so much time explaining everything to me and make sure that I was well taken care of. Emory is a wonderful dental hygienist at the clinic who referred me and I couldn't be happier with my experience. I dread any sort of dental appointments because I am sensitive in the mouth and have had painful experiences in the past. I felt really well cared for and heard by my dentist Dr. Baldwin, my dental hygienist Jodi, and dental assistant Yaideli. Daniel's patience and kindness as my receptionist was also an integral part of my positive experience. What set them apart was the exceptional communication about my care and each step of my visit, the efficient process, and Dr. Baldwin/Jodi taking time to thoroughly listen to and answer my questions about my dental health. I felt valued and centered as the patient and it is clear they maintain a standard of excellence!

Fantastic experience: BEST. DENTIST. EVER. I visited Providence for an emergency tooth removal - I was stressed, I was nervous, I was broke. But the team at Providence made me feel at ease and right at home immediately. They had great music, a kind staff, Melanie was amazing, and everyone was extremely competent (and easy to joke around with, thank goodness). I highly recommend this crew - they're transparent about pricing and procedures and make you feel really comfortable in a situation that is typically really unnerving. THANK YOU, PROVIDENCE SMILES. Fantastic experience: I must admit that I was scared at first but providence smiles made me feel very at home considering that I was going to go through what I presumed was going to be alot of pain, fortunately for me it went through it easily enough. It's the next day and I'm feeling no pain. I so appreciate the care they put into me. Yes I will be going back for the rest of the procedure God willing.

My experience at Providence Smiles has been excellent - from a friendly receptionist to highly knowledgeable and kind specialist. My dental hygienist, Emory, did an excellent and thorough job while also helping train Yaidely. And Dr. Baldwin was fun, efficient, friendly, and caring. This was a new patient appointment and the team did great - Dr. Baldwin even squeezed in a small procedure and truly provided a warm and enjoyable experience. And shoutout to the receptionist who shared pronunciation of my name with the team. I’ll be back!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Baldwin was very kind, respectful, professional & very informative. I asked him what does all of the dental terminology means that he's relating to his assistant (found in my teeth). He patiently explained it!! This is my 1st time visiting this office. Fantastic experience: Providence Smiles is the Dentist office you will definitely get a first class experience. From the text to come in and the friendly receptionist all was breath taking. Emory and Yaidely made sure to explain each process and procedure, they both worked great together and made sure I was comfortable and brought many laughs in the room. Emory was highly knowledgeable and thorough on explaining what i needed done. The staff worked so well together. Dr.Baldwin made sure I had the best options not just for now but years to come he definitely is a dentist tha loves what he does also cares and values each patient that he sees. This is by far the best dental care I’ve received and I highly recommend this, dental office and staff.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful visit to the dentist! My dental hygienist was Emory who was fantastic. She took the time to explain my teeth and what she was seeing. She was also very personable. At Providence Smiles Nurse Emory, Dr. Baldwin & Dr. G make you just feel welcomed & not feel judged. It truly feels like a family, My fiance first found them & I accompanied her at her first 2 appointments & immediately after her 2nd appointment I scheduled myself with Providence Smiles because how they made me feel like part of the family even though I was not a current patient. Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to the Durham location for a year and each time is phenomenal! Emory always welcomes me with a smile on her face and we have the best conversations! Dr. Baldwin informed me of everything in a way I would understand! Also Melanie was very sweet and made me feel very comfortable! This office is the best I’ve been to in years! Fantastic experience: Emory was great! I am getting my wisdom teeth removed and she explained things to me thoroughly. Dr. Baldwin walked me through some options about Invisalign. Overall, I had a great experience and I felt really comfortable.

Negative experience: I have updated this review. I initially ranked Providence Smiles as 5 stars; however, I have downgraded this rating to 2 stars. My partner's appointment was recently canceled because they are changing their office hours. In keeping patients first, why not keep the appointment for the patients then change the office hours? They made it seem simple just to reschedule 20+ days later when my partner had adjusted his work schedule for this appointment. Even before this, it is difficult to get people on the phone. Daniel has been nice, which I appreciate.

Fantastic experience: Dr Gyampo and Dr Baldwin are absolutely the best dentists I have ever had! Their whole staff makes you feel special and like you are family. The last time I was there, Dr. Baldwin and Kiara stayed until 530 to do a filling for me so I would not have to come back! Talk about above and beyond! Thank you, KIARA and thank you, Dr. Baldwin! Fantastic experience: Emory and Kwame are literally the best. I love the family atmosphere and the well trained staff. I’ve had multiple cleanings here, and even a small lesion on the inside of my cheek lasered off. I’m a medical professional myself, and know they’re providing quality care.
