Negative experience: My 89-year-old mother made an appointment here, looking for a check up and cleaning. She doesn't carry dental insurance. She thought it would be reasonably-priced, and all included. They charged her like $350 for a check up and x-rays! She was told (after the checkup and x-rays) that a cleaning that would be like another $133. Ridiculous. They should have advised her of that when she made the appointment. She declined the cleaning due to the cost. I can't believe that couldn't have been part of the package price. She did say she was pleased with the dentist and assistant. I just wanted to post this because I don't think it's fair. If my mom wasn't so independent and self sufficient, I could have found her a dentist for half that price. Update: After management read my post they reached out and rectified the situation. We got my mom signed up for their yearly dental plan.

Fantastic experience: Everyone at the front desk is so amazing and lovely. They get back to you insanely fast, not to mention I was able to have my first time visit for jaw pain and concerns about cavities within a day. Everybody; the front desk, hygienists, Dr. Yang, they are all so attentive and kind. They don’t waste time, super to the point but will definitely give you all the details explaining their concerns and will take yours into account as well. Very thorough, and organized. I have bad dental anxiety, and the people and atmosphere here helped me quell those stresses. Also, the first time I’ve ever seen tv’s on the ceiling for entertainment when you’re in the chair, that was pretty awesome lol. They’ll even offer blankets and water, definitely felt like a spa experience at times . The office is so gorgeous and clean as well, all the way throughout. They have lots of people relying on them here, lots of moving parts, yet somehow they are somehow so efficient, fast, and thorough at the same time, all while having to deal with us patients every day lol. 10/10 recommend Northside Dental Co.

Fantastic experience: The office is very clean and bright. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Appointments have run on time, was actually able to be seen earlier than expected. Very informative and relaxed as they are working on your teeth. Bob Ross is a plus!

Fantastic experience: The best $5000.00 I ever spent....This is what it was indicated to me that Humana insurance was paying for my Crown? Tayler greats me as I walk through the door making me feel right at home and Zoe and Dr Jang very proficiently initiated a two hour installation of my long anticipated crown as I hung upside down in the a very comfortable chair adjusted just so I could see Bob Ross paint a landscape for the t10,000 time....practice, practice is his key to success. I am very happy with Northside Dental and look forward to them completing my crown on 2/17/26. The service even makes me happy to go to the dentist! Jerry L. Green

Fantastic experience: I was a patient at a small family practice in my hometown for most of my life until COVID prevented me from receiving my routine care. Since then, I had avoided dental offices (like the plague) due to the anxiety that comes from 1. Not going for years and 2. No longer seeing the dental team I'd worked with for so long. I decided to give Northside Dental Co. a chance and I'm so glad I did! From the onset, they made booking an appointment a breeze. They communicated appointment times/scheduling reminders through text, my preferred medium, which took the guest work out of having to remember the appointment. The front desk associates are incredibly kind and easy to speak with. As I previously mentioned, I had worked with the same dental team for almost 20 years and during that time spent half of it with the same dental hygienist, whom I adored, so the bar was high. Abby was the hygienist assigned to me and she did a lovely job of making me feel at ease. She listened to me gab on about my previous experiences and empathized with how I was feeling-- change is scary. She also made suggestions on additional numbing that could help the discomfort from a longggg overdue cleaning. I felt my teeth were the cleanest they'd ever been! She did note I had a cavity that would require a fill in and a replacement fill in for one that had fallen out over time. I was confident of her and Dr. Yang's assessment of my teeth and the work that needed to be done. For my fill in appointment, I requested nitrous oxide to help my anxiety. If you are someone that gets incredibly anxious about dental work involving needles, I HIGHLY recommend it! Zoe, the dental assistant, did an excellent job of making sure I was comfortable and I truly felt seen as a person and not just "another patient". Dr. Yang had wonderful bedside manner and her, Zoe, and Gilmore Girls, made the experience quite enjoyable--I'd even argue, fun. 10/10 dental practice and I cannot wait to be seen by this incredible staff again!

Fantastic experience: Friendly, clean, and super helpful! My hygienist Abby was so nice and talked me through my entire cleaning, always making sure I was doing okay, and Dr. Yang was very attentive to a concern I had about my lower teeth! Happy to say I’m NOT dreading my next visit AT ALL

Fantastic experience: I just got back from a cleaning and I felt compelled to write a review. Mary is an amazing human & hygienist! She always makes sure that I am comfortable, gives great tips and really cares about your oral health. Her and Dr.Yang take great care in their work. The front desk team are also the BEST. Prior to today’s appointment, they texted me to let me know that I reached the allotted cleanings that my insurance would cover and provided me with the estimate - I have never had this level of service that’s so thorough, professional and considerate. I also have to mention, I had a very traumatic experience when my wisdom teeth were extracted over 10 years ago and I never thought I would feel safe in a dentist office again. Northside Dental has happily proven me wrong!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend! I can’t remember the last time I actually had a great experience at the dentist other than as a child/teenager. LaNette, my hygienist, and Dr. Tolbert were amazing. They helped ease my anxiety and gave me the best care possible. I will be coming back to see them for my dental care from now on. Negative experience: Went there for a tooth ache, ( my dentist office), they did x-rays and determined that it was infected, didn’t give antibodies because l didn’t ask. I had to go to another dentist to redo exam and x-ray where they provided antibodies, with out asking.

Fantastic experience: What a wonderful experience, and yes, I am talking about a dental appointment where I had x-rays and was evaluated for a fractured tooth. The staff is so welcoming, and the dentist and hygienist were both very professional. I even received a first time patient gift! Waiting area is so comfortable, and even though I'd never been there before, I felt like part of the family. Highly recommend!

She gave me great advice for a few minor issues I’ve been having and made me feel completely at ease—even though I usually get anxious about dental visits. Positive experience: Great new patient experience. They did a new patient assessment and were not pushy in offering anything other than what I had asked of them. We now have a plan that is simple and concise. I really appreciated their approach.

Negative experience: Went here for a few years. Lead dentist is kind, but the hygienist I received for most of those appointments was incredibly rough on my gums, then would tell me I needed special mouthwash when they bled - I floss daily and do not bleed at home when I floss, I am confident it was a result of her harsh scraping. Other services were good until this past appointment - we had a change in insurance, they way underquoted us and we ended up receiving a large bill. For example, they told us it was $20 for flouride treatment, then we got charged $58 per person. They had also pressured me to get x-rays that appointment for a pretty large fee, which I'm glad I declined (after much pressure) because that quote was also likely wrong and I imagine I would have gotten a huge bill. Overall, despite all of the branding and efforts to make the space feel like a "cool" dentist, they're still just a cog in the US Healthcare system and will mislead you to take your money the same as any other.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I just started coming here within the past month. I had my first appointment today and I brought my 3 month old with me (nervously lol). Everyone was so accommodating and friendly towards us. My wonderful hygienist made sure he was far enough away during x-rays and even rocked him in his stroller while the dentist examined me. The staff here turned what could have been a super stressful experience into such a pleasant one. Cannot recommend seeing this team enough! Fantastic experience: Dentist for Cool Girls™️ (and everyone else) I heard about Northside Dental on a Reddit thread seeking dentists in RVA for folks who have dental anxiety and/or have not been to the dentist in quite a while. I’m so glad I found them! I had not been to the dentist in ~5 years due to gaps in insurance and mounting anxiety about how bad my teeth had probably gotten after all that time. My great experience started with the intake forms, where Northside asks questions like “Have you ever had a bad experience at the dentist?” and “Does the dentist make you anxious?” in order to gauge patient comfort. There were also plenty of opportunities on the form for me to add comments about what I wanted the staff and dentist to know prior to my visit. The office itself is clean and modern with a very friendly, all fem staff (including both dentists). The rooms have televisions mounted on the ceiling so that patients can watch tv during their procedures. As a new patient, I also got a free welcome gift (choice between a bag of Blanchard’s coffee or a Northside Dental tumbler). I chose the tumbler so that everyone will know I am a cool girl who goes to the dentist ✨ I have had two appointments so far, and all of my exams and procedures have been skillfully performed and low-anxiety. I have been informed of what was going on with my care at every step. I highly recommend Northside Dental for anyone in need of a dentist, especially those who have anxiety or hesitations surrounding dental care. Thanks, Northside Dental Co.!

Fantastic experience: I hadn’t been to the dentist in years. I was afraid of being reprimanded for that, and afraid of general anxiety that comes from going to the dentist. This was by far the best dental experience I’ve ever had. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, kind, and gentle. I started having severe tooth pain over the weekend and they were able to fit me in as a new patient on MONDAY. They assessed my pain, gave me their suggestions, and I’m now regularly set up and have a scheduled 6 month cleaning. Cannot recommend enough.

Negative experience: Today was my first visit at Northside Dental as I have a broken wisdom tooth . I was informed 3x prior to my appt that the cost would be $150 for the xray that needed to be done as I am paying out of pocket ... Although the facility is beautiful and the staff pleasant I feel robbed . Upon checking in I Paid $150 fee, received an x ray and was told that my tooth was infected and needed to be extracted; but I would be referred to their oral surgeon . Upon checking out I was charged and additional $150 as the receptionist stated "due to what you told them in the back they needed to do a panoramic xray and that will be $159 . Mind you I didn't tell them anything , So to pay $309 and still have a broken tooth is insane . And I will still need to pay to have the tooth removed. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING.

Fantastic experience: Saw the sign outside the office accepting new patients, and by the grace of God and the universe I was able to get a same day appointment, and because things weren't that bad, also got a cleaning done! The office is clean, the staff are kind, and fun to talk with. I had Mary (Dental Hygienist) and Dr. Yang and both were informative and gave good information about my dental care. I have anxiety and some of it comes with going to dentist and Mary talked me through everything and was really kind and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend going!

My hygienist, was so professional as she explained exactly what she was doing as she was doing it. The dentist explained what she suggests be done. All,in all, it was a very pleasant visit.

Fantastic experience: I’m not even kidding, I left the dentist feeling like I left the spa. Clean, super friendly staff, so helpful and transparent when it comes to cost, speedy services without feeling rushed. They offer sunglasses during the exam/cleaning so you don’t have to stare at the bright lights (or try to awkwardly avoid eye contact while they’re poking around in your mouth). They give you a welcome gift. They have Bob Ross playing on the TV on the ceiling above the dental chair. I mean come on! All women staff & ownership and it shows in the attention to detail and prioritization of comfort. If you hate the dentist, you will love this dentist.

Fantastic experience: I had not been to the dentist in a long time due to previous bad experiences and fear. I expressed this concern on intake forms and was met with no judgement. I was made to feel very comfortable and everything was explained to me without the rude or condescending tone I’ve experienced at other dentists. Chelsea is a wonderful dentist and made sure I knew what each step of the process was. Additionally I find the pricing very competitive. I am no longer anxious or afraid to go to the dentist and would recommend this place to anyone with a fear of the dentist. All of the dental hygienist are wonderful as well as the front desk staff. All around wonderful place to go.

Fantastic experience: I was visiting Richmond from out of own and had a partial crown fall out. I found Northside Dental Co on Google and was able to easily make an online appointment using their website. Long story short, the reviews you read about this practice are accurate. They were WONDERFUL! The staff was able to squeeze me in early in the AM, and luckily they were able to reattach my crown during the initial visit. Both the hygienist and dentist were patient, thoughtful, and extremely professional. THANK YOU again Northside Dental for saving my holiday.

Negative experience: In June 2023, Northside Dental told me I had FOUR cavities and wanted to charge me over $1000 to fill them (I didn't have insurance). Despite their urgency in scheduling an appointment, I waited until I could get dental insurance. Once I did, I went to a different dentist who took my new insurance (Northside Dental didn't take it, or otherwise I would have returned there to have my cavities filled). I have been to two different appointments over more than a year at my new dentist and they have assured me each time that I have no cavities at all. I am very concerned that Northside Dental is putting profit over patients and it is difficult for people to see through this because of their slick facade. Even more concerning to me than the money is the impact on patient's health. Please get a second opinion before you allow them to drill holes in your healthy teeth!

Fantastic experience: They were very helpful and pleasant people. They showed me what my x-rays looked like and explained things in a way that was easy to understand and transparent. I went to them for a second opinion and I’m glad that I did. The treatment plan they recommended will save me a lot of money and I’m thankful for their membership option as someone who will soon be without dental insurance. They are also easy to communicate with via text message for appointments. Great experience so far

Negative experience: I came here for two routine exams and teeth cleanings based on a recommendation from a neighbor who happens to be a dental sales rep and had horrible experiences on both occasions. This practice has poor bed side manner and is designed to squeeze every dollar that they can out of you. I do not recommend this practice to anyone seeking care. Setting up appointments was rather simple and the office was technology forward, clean, bright and new. The building was recently renovated and they have a large parking lot. However, it was obvious that behind their fancy facade lies the drive to pad their bottom line. My first check up here was pretty comprehensive with all the x-rays being taken and teeth properly scaled. This took approximately 45 minutes into the hour long appointment. The hygienist spent a good 10 minutes trying to explain for me why I should pay for the up charge for fluoride even though it already covered under my insurance plan. The hygienist and dentist spent the last 20 minutes of my appointment creating a sense of urgency telling me to prevent my teeth from cracking that I needed to buy from them a mouth guard, electric tooth brushes, teeth whitening, etc all of which I get for free from my dental sales rep neighbor. My second appointment consisted of a longer sales pitch than actual care. My second cleaning here with the same tech didn't even last all of 10 minutes, which is inadequate to receive a proper scaling done, she didn't even floss my teeth. I received another repeated lecture regarding why an up charge for the fluoride was highly recommended even though it was already covered by insurance. Followed by another 20 minutes berating me on why I did not want to proceed with making an mouth guard and signing up for their teeth whitening treatments. When I had told her that I had procured these elsewhere, she proceeded to tell me about how low quality my products were attempting to shame me. I've never had any issues with my teeth and I cannot imagine how this practice would try and extort me if I had actually had an issue with my teeth. This has left a bad taste in my mouth and I cannot recommend anyone come to this practice.

It’s an incredibly awkward experience to be upsold so aggressively, and to ask your staff to do that. This is the third time that it’s happened, and has made for an uncomfortable and pressured visit. We’ll be looking for a different provider.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place!!! Dr. Yang, Kimmy and Abby were /are wonderful with my dental needs. They always make me feel comfortable and I never feel rushed when I am there. The administrative staff is so nice too! They always great me with big smiles and by my name. I am so lucky to have found such a fantastic Dentist office!

Fantastic experience: As mentioned in their website, they are welcoming and approachable, I found this to be refreshing and true. I was tired of the cold and wallet driven treatment from my last dentist's office. I found Northside and the staff to be friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated the exam information about my teeth to be understandable and useful for my daily hygiene. This is a great dental practice that cares about patients, so happy I am a new patient.

Fantastic experience: My tooth chipped over the weekend and I needed to see someone asap ! I called them today and I was able to get in the same day which was very impressive to me . The building is very beautiful and the customer service was beyond exceptional . I saw Dr Tolbert and she is literally a sweetheart . She was so welcoming and will be returning as a patient from here on out. I’m not from the Richmond area so I was hesitant leaving my hometown dentist , but I definitely made the right choice coming here .

Fantastic experience: I’ve been bringing my family here for 2 years. I love the customer service at the front desk. Dr.Yang is the best dentist I’ve ever had. The office is neat, clean, and just beautiful. Most importantly they keep our teeth in good health. If you’re looking for a new dentist this should be your new office.

Positive experience: Unparalleled experience and customer comfort. I’ve been to many dentist, on multiple continents, and have never been more put at ease . Everything was clearly designed around the patient experience and nothing was forced or painful. I really appreciate such a great experience! Edited: Please be aware their estimate may be different than the final amount, sometimes by a large amount. This was an unfortunate surprise and cause me to change dental offices.

Fantastic experience: the staff at Northside Dental were amazing and super friendly. Great experience. today was my first cleaning appointment here and was impressed! They never tried to sell me something like a lot of places do… special whitening, teeth coating, etc. also didn’t make up issues that didn’t exist (trust me this happens). I will come back!

Dr. Talbort and LaNette take their time with you and truly want to provide wholistic dental care for their patients! I’m glad to be joining the Northside family!

Fantastic experience: I had my first cleaning appointment here today and was very impressed! The facility is modern, the staff are super friendly and competent, and I even got a welcome gift of Blanchard’s coffee beans. I appreciated how both the check-in process and the entire appointment (thanks to a detailed registration form) focused on my concerns/questions and also the way I prefer to receive information, e.g. more detailed rather than just the basics. I’m really happy to be a patient now at this dental practice and look forward to continuing to be a patient here.

My Dental Hygienist, Mary, was very kind and simply amazing, on top of that, very thorough, which I appreciate! This was my first visit and I would definitely recommend this dentist!!!

From the moment I walked in the staff took care of me, got my free gift, and new information about my teeth that I didn’t know. Service was fast and efficient. The staff really care about you here! Negative experience: Went in for a cleaning in Nov and walked out with an estimate for over $4,000 of dental work. Went to another more experienced dentist in the Richmond area this week. He looked at My mouth and did a very thorough examination while explaining everything to me. He told me nothing needed to be done. He then looked at the X-rays that Northside dental sent over and their estimate and said nope none of it was needed! The good news is is by switching away from this dentist I save myself what could have been $2,500 worth of UNNECESSARY dental work with my dental insurance

Fantastic experience: What in the world… I didn’t know a dentist experience could be so great. From the moment you walk in, it feels very different than the average experience. It was more like walking into a coffee shop and then lo and behold, they hand you a free bag of local coffee! I’m normally terrified of the dentist, but I was gently soothed by the strokes of Bob Ross above me. They also seem to have all the latest technology, which makes a lot of legacy awful dentist things not too bad. The entire staff is wildly wonderful and informative. Millennials have figured out the dentist experience. So proud.

Fantastic experience: A spacious, well lit, modern, space (TVs on ceiling too), friendly and efficient front staff, convenient location with parking, very competitive pricing, state of the art equipment etc, thorough hygienists. and most importantly dentists that take the time to explain the current procedure and the pros and cons of any work that may be recommended presently or in the future. I have never felt misguided and when I had severe tooth pain I was fit in immediately. I am a fan of Dr. Yang, Abby, Nina et al.

Fantastic experience: Yesterday I had two fillings and an extraction. Dr. Yang and Niki did a wonderful job. They are each very knowledgeable and skilled. In the past I have avoided dental care due to painful experience. Dentists always said "you will feel pressure but no sharp pain." Up until yesterday that had NOT been my experience. At all. But during yesterday's procedures it was true! No pain. For me, that was a miracle. Well done team!

Talented hygienist LaNette was a great teacher and communicator. She took time to make my experience the best it could be! Dr. Tolbert was kind, professional, and practical. Fantastic experience: I had avoided going to the dentist for YEARS because of how stressful my previous experiences had been, but Northside could not have been more different. Scheduling was easy and helpful. The forms even asked if there were things I was nervous about, which I’ve never seen before and was such a thoughtful touch. They were actually able to get me in for an earlier appointment, and the entire experience was SO pleasant I couldn’t believe it. I was brought back right on time and was never awkwardly sitting in the chair waiting. The facilities were really nice and clean. Everyone was so knowledgeable, thorough, and kind, making sure I could ask any questions as they came up, and I could tell they had actually read my intake forms, which was so impressive. My hygienist was AMAZING. I felt so relieved after my appointment and am so glad that a place like this exists.
