Negative experience: I arrived at my appointment under the impression that it was for a routine cleaning. I’ve been trying to get this done since early December when I had been given an appt. reminder card. I went to that appointment and was told they didn’t have me in the system and that if I wasn’t receiving reminder text messages, I should have known I didn’t have an appointment. Yesterday the technician said she didn’t have me scheduled for a cleaning, just treatment. So I’m looking for a new dentist, not because of Dr. Lorne but because of incompetent staff. I still have that appointment card that says Dec 8th.

Negative experience: I went in for a cleaning Feb 9th and the assistant addy gave me a ruff coronal polishing that left a slice in my gums on the front tooth.. Dr. Gunti came in and diagnosed cavities, did not explain me my treatment the assistant tried to explain which I felt was not her place but his. I was being set up and asked if I was receiving a cleaning and I was told that was my cleaning. I did not accept it then had to speak to a manager Jennifer L so I wasn’t billed for something I did not receive and would have to come in a week later after already taking off work otherwise I was going to have to wait till the end of April. Very unprofessional, belt rush from the minute I sat down to the minute I walked to the front was 15 minutes, Felt misunderstood with my frustration, like it was being kicked under the rug. Will not be back unfortunately after going for the past few years and getting braces done with them. The hygienist never came in, doctor didn’t clean, and I felt uneasy about them trying to bill my insurance for something I was not given

Carmen is a great hygienist and so pleasant to be around. Still using Dr Loren great as ever and Jessica is a wonderful hygienist. Hubby and I are still so pleased . We don’t dread going to the dentist. Thank you for being there for us

Fantastic experience: I was in pain and expected to walk in and get a future appointment. The ladies in the office went to work, reached out to the Dentist and they got me in right then. Within 30 minutes my issue was resolved and I had medicine and a referral! The service was above and beyond. Great group.

Fantastic experience: I was highly impressed by both receptionist on the 2 days in the office. Each of them were extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable of their jobs. I was so impressed I did stop her from her duties a few seconds in private, to let her know about my observations. From her reaction, she isn't told that nearly enough. Even though they were careful not to say names, it would have been better for them and your waiting patients if you had a glass window for privacy insulted. I loved the doctor. He made me feel welcomed and interested I felt my needs were being met. I'm glad I finally found you.

Fantastic experience: My care was outstanding from the time I walked into the clinic and my hygienist was the best she took such care in meeting my needs and providing education on the care of my teeth. The dentist was great with the exam. I highly recommend. 1/7/2026 This is the best dental office in Abilene. I went elsewhere when I had to cancel my cleaning appointment and the next available was 6mths out, the office I chose couldn’t compare to the quality of care. I experienced pain in my tooth and recently waited for an appointment to be seen here, I refused to continue with the other provider. The staff and quality care can’t be compared. Thanks you guys for giving us your best service.

Dr. Whetten is truly AMAZING! If your looking for a great dentist that is kind and friendly, will take his time to explain your dental options, ensure throughout your procedure that your comfortable, and will do whatever he can to give you the best results possible, look no further. Fantastic experience: Jessica does an excellent job and is very professional ! Dr. Lorne is the best.

Negative experience: 2 stars due to billing nightmare and attempts to charge balances that were not correctly billed to insurance and attempts to ignore their contractual requirements with the insurance. Almost every visit from cleanings to the 1 major service I had to call the office and insurance due to a billing issue. The kicker was trying to get me to pay the balance when they didn't include standard information insurance companies require and waited over a year to bill it - and pushed the blame on me because I didn't make sure they billed it correctly or follow up with the insurance on why they denied it for the missing information. Prior issue of services billed to my insurance that we did not have done. Now, the actual dentist and hygienist there are amazing and very good. They never pushed services that were not needed and did not attempt to push elective services. I was very happy with every bit of my experience outside of the individuals that handle billing. it is a shame the billing issues have become so frustrating that my family is actively searching for another office and it makes one wonder how many other people were charged and paid bills that were incorrectly billed and the office should have resubmitted and followed up on.

Fantastic experience: Abilene Dental Care & Orthodontics is the best! I first found Dr. Lorne shortly after moving to Abilene. I had a dental emergency - a chipped tooth. Dr. Lorne saw me immediately and fixed my tooth for me - without insisting a full exam before doing so. Because of Dr. Lorne’s compassion, I decided to entrust him with my dental care. His dental nurse, Jess, is also the best I’ve ever had. She generates warmth and calm; she works quickly and is a true professional. Dr. Lorne has also helped provide me with two fillings. He worked efficiently and everything turned out great. I trust Dr. Lorne, Jess, and the team here to take care of me.

Positive experience: Overall have had good experiences. Cleanings are usually good, but I’ve had some pretty painful procedures done with no post care instructions and sometimes front desk is too chaotic to get ahold of when needed

Fantastic experience: This dentist is the most skilled I have ever experienced. It is very clear he loves his job and thoroughly understands the limits of every tool, compound, and chemical he uses. He is also very honest about what can and what shouldn’t be done. If other dentists have said pulling is the only solution maybe try here. Get his opinion first. Trust me when I say this. I’m 54 and have struggled my whole life with weak enamel. I have visited many different dentists in my life.

Negative experience: The Dr. was late for the app. He then gave me the most painful shots I've ever had and I've had many from different doctors. He waited about 20 minutes then began to drill and then stopped and ask the assistant who put down the wrong tooth. He had a heavy accent and was hard to understand. Then without explanation or apology began to give me more painful shots on the other side. Without waiting he began to drill the right tooth without giving time for numbness. I will never go to your office again. Now I'm feeling sensitive on the newly drilled tooth. I can't believe he gave no explanation or apology.

Fantastic experience: I recently started going to Abilene Dental South since I was having tooth pain and didn’t have a regular dentist and needed to be seen fast! They were really friendly and were very professional, as well as made me comfortable and addressed my tooth pain fast! And ensured I was at ease and comfortable the whole time! They took me in as a new patient and saw me within a couple days to examine and treat me, and it was no issue for them, unlike most other dentists I’ve called to work me in immediately as a new patient. The receptionist, assistants, dentists, everyone there that I encountered are very welcoming and sweet. I will not go anywhere else in the future. I am going to continue to see them regularly and become established with their office now that I found dental care (dentist) I’m happy with! I highly recommend!!

Negative experience: If I could give them less than one star I would. I was referred to Abilene Dental by the VA 6 weeks ago. Before these appointments I would call Abilene Dental in order to verify the appointment, but was told on 3 occasions that they never received a referral. The fourth time the VA assured me that Abilene Dental had indeed received the referral, so on a Friday I called Abilene Dental with my referral number in order to verify. I was told everything was set, I had an appointment time and no problem. Right? Wrong. The following Tuesday I drove for over an hour to Abilene Texas and arrived at Abilene Dental with my VA referral in hand, only to be told they had nothing for me and I was not in their computer. To add insult to injury, the receptionist who spent most of her time with me on a personal phone call tried to blame the problem on the VA.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Todd Whitfield (oral surgeon) was the best! I was scheduled to get my wisdom teeth out. After looking at my X-rays he was very honest and told me that I did not need to get the procedure unless they were giving me issues. He then gave me a full refund. Very kind and warm personality!

Negative experience: The providers refused to see me because i’m pregnant even after making mention of being afraid of infection from a cracked tooth. When I asked for the refusal in writing the manager refused to do so as he said he needed to protect his providers. I asked for a referral, it was declined, he asked me to wait outside and the receptionist locked me out. Horrible place.

Positive experience: My experience is of no fault to the doctors or techs. They were very kind. I was informed they were over booked since their other office shut down. However, I had to wait over an hour past my scheduled time for my appointment. Some system of calling the patients if you’re behind schedule should be implemented because I feel like my time wasn’t valued at all. Respectful workers, but need a better system for this switch.

Negative experience: 3 text messages & 1 call to confirm. No mention of change of address. Put on hold when called to say I’d be a bit late. No mention of fee increases. My bill was nearly double for same services from 2024. Then my acct. was only credited part of what I paid. Receptionist was combative when I called re bill. Office staff are a reflection of the employer imho. Very dissatisfied and not going back.

Positive experience: Wait time wasn't long. Dentist came in and looked at my teeth. When the hygienist came in, she mentioned that the dentist had put numbing on my gums and I told her he hadn't. She was cleaning my teeth and it really hurt during the process of removing matter off my teeth. The polishing process was so quick. Next time, I'll know what I need ahead of time.

Both Dentist and Dental Assistant were super kind and informative. They also made my experience comfortable! Glad to have found my new dental office.

Fantastic experience: Had my first visit with this clinic today and was very satisfied. There was minimal paperwork to complete that I was able to download and do at home before the visit. The staff was friendly and efficient and my dental issues were completely addressed. Dr. Shin seems to know his business and I will be going back for further care. Update: had a follow-up visit today for a cleaning and a quick check by the doctor. Was brought in early for my appointment. Got a thorough treatment from the hygienist. In and out, couldn't be easier. Update 5 June 2024, this dental clinic continues to deliver a satisfying experience. They are super efficient but thorough. My hard to please wife is pleased with them too. Update 9 Dec 2024, this clinic still rates highly. I think they want to do radiographs more than needed and I wish they had an online option to complete medical history update online prior to the visit.

Positive experience: They ran out of time so I could only get 3 of 4 wisdom teeth pulled. They also forgot to give me the prescription for ibuprofen I was told I would need for the pain.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, and the equipment and facilities look to be very clean and modern. I felt like I was in good hands. They explained very well my treatment plan and there was never any pressure or worry about the procedures they recommended. Overall I am very happy so far.
