Fantastic experience: I saw Dr Dolores Baran for a cosmetic dental procedure called a gingivectomy. This procedure uses a laser to cut back the gum line to show more of the tooth. I got a consult at Royal Oak Smiles to review this procure and scheduled to have it done the next week. Dr Baran was amazing, explained everything clearly, told me what to except with recovery and was so friendly the entire time. Office staff was so nice as well. This was a great experience for my first time in this office and I will continue to go here in the future.

Fantastic experience: Just had a great experience at Dr. Baran’s office. I’m a nervous patient at the dentist, but Dr. Baran explained everything she was doing and exactly what to expect. That really helped me to calm down. After the initial injection, my filling was painless and fits perfectly. Later that day it felt like I had nothing done at all! The office staff helps as well, always friendly, supportive and smiling. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: When an incompetent dentist ruined my teeth years ago I searched for the best dentists in MI to help repair my teeth, DR. Baran expertly guided me through my repair process and her team performed 2 beautiful root canals and Crown applications, and 5 cavity fillings and got my damaged teeth working and pain free. The 20 some hours in the dental chair was worth it and everyone at the practice was professional, friendly, gentle, kind and knowledgeable- this is a dentist I’d highly recommended and would always trust with my dental health.

Negative experience: "FREE DENTAL DAY AT ROYALOAKSMILES" IF U HV DENTURES, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND GAS. They won't work on dentures even tho it's not mentioned in the advertisement!! Thanks for messing up my weekend guys! Great initiative!!. Added: No I was NOT offered to come in another day for a free evaluation. I was very rudely told dentures will not be looked at by one staff member (which was NOT mentioned on the flyers). I am NOT 'disappointed' coz I know the 'free' had to have "if's and 'but's". I just wish flyers were more honest so we don't waste time, energy and gas

Positive experience: I went here as a teen for their braces, I loved the staff and how friendly everyone was. I just wish the dentist had asked me if i wanted my Canine teeth shaved down rather than doing it without my consent. I had gone home crying and now as an adult i miss the length of my canines. overall great place just don’t shave peoples canines without asking first Appreciate the response, I was informed after the shaving was done that she had shaved the canines down after the braces came off in the same appointment because they were ‘a little too long for the rest of the teeth’ exact words. I highly doubted that would’ve been documented in the first place and they’re response confirmed that feeling :( This isn’t something i can fix and be happy with the fix which is why i left this review! I loved the response and the honesty of not documenting such a thing when it should’ve been. I moved it up to 4 stars for the kindness :) I also was a child during this time and my grandmother did not care about my feelings towards my canines which is why they never got a proper response to my concerns.

Fantastic experience: I did not expect such a WONDERFUL experience with Gina the hygienist. WOAH I did not feel a thing as she numbed me and the process was so smooth. Gina came in with so much energy and her AURA is so different. She’s passionate of the Lord and I can see it right through her. She loves what she does

Fantastic experience: I first went to Dr. Baran a few years ago. I thought she was an amazing dentist, professional, gentle, and kind. I used to absolutely HATE going to the dentist. Dr. Baran has alleviated most (if not all) of my anxiety about dental work. People are always commenting on how beautiful my teeth are and asking me who's your dentist. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Dr. Baran for my Dental care for over 30 years. She and the staff are always friendly, professional, and accomidating when I am in the office. She is very skilled in the latest Dental techniques and even has a 3D printer for crowns to make them while you wait. I would definately recommend them for any of your Dental care needs..

Scheduled appointments run efficiently with minimal wait time, but they can also accommodate patients when urgent dental issues come up (I’ve had a few of these over the years). Dr. Baran and the staff are also great about explaining care options in detail and providing accurate cost/insurance benefit info up front.

Negative experience: The hygienist at Dr. Baran’s office was wonderful—kind, attentive, and a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately, my overall experience was mixed due to the interaction with Dr. Baran herself. She seemed visibly impatient during the appointment, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. At one point, Dr. Baran questioned me about my consumption of sugary and acidic beverages in a way that felt more scolding than informative—it came across more like being lectured than advised by a healthcare professional. I was also recommended a fairly extensive treatment plan that came with a significant out-of-pocket cost, even with insurance coverage. After getting a second opinion from a trusted family dentist, I was advised to pursue a far less aggressive (and much more affordable) approach. If you’re going in for a routine cleaning, your experience may be fine. But if you’re being told you need major dental work, I’d strongly recommend seeking a second opinion—or considering another provider altogether.

Fantastic experience: Can’t recommend Dr.Baran enough! I brought my son in for a second opinion after a previous doctor scared him. She was super patient, kind and gentle with him. Needless to say she will now see the whole family because she was so compassionate with my son and calmed his nervousness down. He no longer is afraid to go to the dentist because of her!

Negative experience: Avoid this office at all costs unless you enjoy overpaying for services you don’t need to finance their expensive and unnecessary water features, individual TV screens and other equipment. Dr. Baran is legitimately the worst provider I’ve ever encountered in the dental field. I came in up front about my severe dental anxiety and she guilted me for my understandably high blood pressure and avoiding the dentist and was impatient and brusque and seemed openly annoyed with me throughout all of my appointments. She also diagnosed me with several cavities that magically disappeared when I sought a second opinion elsewhere (at the suggestion of a hygienist in Dr. Baran’s own office after hearing her opinion about my teeth) with a dentist with actual bedside manner who isn’t out only to enrich themselves. The other 1-star reviews here are right, this office is all about overcharging and upselling. The work I did have done there was unsatisfactory and even without all of the above, I had nothing but problems with the office staff responsible for scheduling and billing throughout my time there. The ONLY compliment I will give is to the hygienists and dental assistants that worked with me, who were patient, kind and honest with me. Wish I could say the same for Dr. Baran.

Fantastic experience: I can't recommend this dental office enough! I had an unexpected dental emergency and needed a crown on short notice. From the moment I walked in the staff was incredibly understanding and quick to get me in. They were not only professional but also really kind, which made a stressful situation so much easier. They worked efficiently, and thanks to their care, I was able to get everything sorted out and still make my morning flight. If you ever find yourself in a dental jam, this is definitely the place. They truly care about their patients and know how to handle emergencies. Huge thanks to the team!

Negative experience: Great place for routine dental cleaning. Very unhappy with my implant. I am now left with a screw sticking out of my gums and my teeth are shifting. Total loss of confidence on that part. Do not allow Dr. Shafka to work on your teeth! Edited: I have sent letters to Dr. Baran, Dr. Shafka, and Delta Dental. Unfortunately, Dr. Baran spent more time asking me to take this review down than adressing my concerns.

This was my first time ever changing dentist due to insurance reasons and so glad I did . Dr Baran was very patient and passionate about my procedure that was my front tooth and my whole smile . She was not rushing me , she gave me time to catch my breath and allow me to calm my self down . Laurie was awesome and very patient as well during my whitening session that took 1 hour and putting my tooth in place . I am sure I drove them nuts but they didn’t show it . I am so thankful for Dr Baran I was even able to give her a hug before leaving her office . She will make sure you are happy before you leave . Adding pics so you can see the difference

I went in for a consultation for Laser Gum Conturing - after 2 years of being unsure if it’ll help. I felt so comfortable and excited. During and after the procedure, I felt comfortable and at ease. My results literally exceeded my expectations and I can’t stop smiling! No more gummy appearance. I am soooo happy with the results and if you’re even considering, book your consultation here!! Fantastic experience: I seriously cannot say enough good things about Dr. Baran. I have had so many bad dental experiences in metro Detroit. I had trust issues when I came to Dr. Baran’s office when a friend referred her. She made me feel comfortable when she was one of 2 dentists (other being in Louisville) that did not pressure me to take out my wisdom teeth. She is very conservative on treatments and stays up to date with what can be done to preserve natural teeth. I have been with her office for a few years now but recently moved to another state. I still come back to her for all my dental needs. Also all the dental hygienists are amazing and have been doing it for 10+ years.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Baran is great at what she does. Flawless work and well worth the extra expense from coming here. The staff is always friendly and helpful. In the past, I've had issues getting appointments, since they have limited hours on evenings and weekends. In the summer, they're only open Monday - Thursday, which can be difficult. However, after some back and forth with the business, I was told that, so long as a patient is clear on what they need and what their limitations are, the office will do what they can to accommodate appointments. It just depends on the procedure. IMPORTANT NOTE: My original review was 4 stars due to the scheduling issue. However, since leaving that review, the office reached out to me to explain the above, and has also accommodated more than one evening appointment as necessary, so I amended my review to reflect that.

Fantastic experience: Awesome staff, awesome dentist! I had neglected going to the dentist for 2 years and developed an infected tooth. Dr Barans got me in and scheduled a root canal for the next day. She and her assistant, Jasmine, made the process simple and painless. Very grateful for their effort and compassion. Fantastic experience: This place is amazing. I used to have so much anxiety about the office. It was really bad, sometimes requiring medication. To say that this office assisted with changing my entire perspective about going to the dentist is an understatement. The environment here is so calming. Tv in each room, or a wall fountain if that’s your preference. Cold water in the lobby which is open and inviting. Ava is by far the most amazing individual to keep you calm and is the best at what she does. Our entire family has transferred here, and we wouldn’t consider going anywhere else’s. If you have any hesitation about going back to the dentist, I highly recommend this office.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with dr. Baran and her staff. Ava cleaned my teeth. She did an awesome job. What I really liked was she gave me sun glasses so the lights weren’t shining in my eyes and I was able to get a blanket so I was nice and warm during my cleaning. And when dr baran came in to evaluate my teeth she identified some problems my other dentist missed. I highly recommend Dr. Baran and her staff to anyone.

Dr. Baran and her team perform most dental procedures in the office, including root canals, dental implant placement restoration, invisible braces and more. I was appreciative that she rearranged her schedule to fix my cracked tooth after eating popcorn the very next day. I was hesitant initially, but during my consultation, Dr. Baran listened to all of my concerns, and then explained the various options I had. I took a leap of faith, and now, not even a few weeks later, here I am receiving daily compliments about my teeth. She did a great job, and it was refreshing to have someone not just recommend the most expensive solution. If you need dental bonding or veneers, I 110% recommend this practice. Thanks ladies. Negative experience: My mother is a patient of record, not myself, and I’m disgusted at how Dolores treated her. Money, money, money …that is Dolores’ only concern. She gave my elderly mother a treatment plan that would cost thousands of dollars. We got a second, and third opinion and neither dentist wanted to do even 1/2 of what Dolores and her staff insisted was necessary. Shame on her and her staff ….

Fantastic experience: I was a patient elsewhere but could not get in there on a weekend to deal with a horrible toothache. Dr Baran’s office fit me in last minute early on a Saturday morning. They even called me when i sent an email, not leaving me to have to call and call hoping to maybe get in. Dr Baran saw me, diagnosed the need for a retreatment of a root canal, and even set the appointment up for me Monday. Then, when my antibiotic prescription got screwed up by cvs she texted with me and called in a new one. On top of that, the next day i was still in agony so she texted with me again and called in a Tylenol 3. Any practice that goes to such lengths to ensure a happy and comfortable patient is going to get me for all my dental needs. I’m definitely switching.

Fantastic experience: In spite of an uncomfortable procedure, I could not say better things about Dr. Baran and her staff. I have pretty severe anxiety around going to the dentist and have never really felt like other doctors had taken it seriously, but Dr. Baran and her dental assistant were so patient and kind and worked so hard to make sure I was comfortable and feeling OK in spite of nearly three hours of work. Would highly recommend to everyone, but even more specifically those with dental anxiety!

Fantastic experience: I came in as an emergency and Dr. Baran did not hesitate to treat my root canal so that I did not have to suffer any more tenderness, pain, or swelling.
