This barrier prevents food particles and plaque from getting stuck in the tiny grooves, drastically reducing the risk of decay. While highly popular for children and teenagers, adults without decay or fillings in their molars—and even premolars—can also benefit from sealants. It's a simple, cost-effective investment in long-term oral health that can save you time and money on fillings down the road. Ask us about sealants at your next check-up!

Think of fluoride as a vitamin for your teeth. This natural mineral strengthens your tooth enamel, making it more resistant to the acid attacks that cause cavities. While fluoride in toothpaste and water provides a base level of protection, our in-office professional fluoride treatment offers a significantly higher concentration for a powerful boost. The treatment is fast and easy—we apply a gel, foam, or varnish to your teeth, which is often pleasantly flavored.

Bleeding when you brush or floss is not normal—it's your body's signal that something is wrong. This early stage of gum disease, called gingivitis, is caused by plaque buildup along the gumline. If left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis, a serious infection that reduces the bone supporting your teeth and can lead to tooth loss. More alarmingly, the inflammation is linked to systemic health issues like heart disease and diabetes. While gingivitis is reversible, periodontitis is not; seeing a dentist regularly can prevent periodontitis from happening and slow its progression once it has started.

Our team is expert in diagnosing and treating all stages of gum disease. We start with a comprehensive evaluation, measuring pockets around your teeth. For early cases, a professional cleaning and improved home care may be sufficient. For more advanced cases, we provide deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) and ongoing periodontal maintenance cleanings. Our goal is to halt the disease's progression, restore your gum health, and protect your overall wellbeing.

When gum disease has progressed beyond reversible gingivitis, a routine cleaning is not enough to treat the infection. If our examination and diagnostics reveal that plaque and tartar (calculus) have accumulated below your gumline, creating deep infected pockets, we will recommend a scaling and root planing procedure. This non-surgical "deep cleaning" is the gold standard treatment for periodontitis and often helps patients avoid gum surgery.

The process is typically completed over two visits for your comfort. Using specialized instruments, we meticulously clean (scale) the surfaces of your tooth roots, removing toxic bacteria, tartar, and plaque. We then smooth (plane) the root surfaces. This smoothing allows your gums to reattach firmly to the teeth, reducing pocket depth and eliminating areas where bacteria can thrive. While the mouth is typically numbed for comfort, the procedure is straightforward and is the most critical step in controlling active gum disease and preserving your natural smile.

Successfully completing scaling and root planing is a major achievement, but your journey to gum health requires ongoing care. Periodontal disease is a chronic condition, much like diabetes or high blood pressure, and it requires active management to keep it under control. That's where periodontal maintenance comes in.

These visits are different from routine cleanings, even though they may feel simple from the patient perspective. Periodontal maintenance appointments are scheduled more frequently—typically every three to four months—and are specifically designed to monitor your gum health and prevent the recurrence of disease.

During these visits, we check pocket depths, assess bone levels, remove any new tartar buildup above and below the gumline, and polish your teeth. This consistent, specialized care is essential for stabilizing your condition, preventing further bone loss, and protecting the progress you've already made.

You might be diligent about brushing and flossing twice a day, but are you doing it correctly? Proper technique is crucial for effectively removing plaque without damaging your enamel or gums. Our hygienists and dental assistants love coaching patients during visits so you leave confident in your home routine.

We recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle to your gums and use gentle, short, circular motions—avoid aggressive sawing back and forth. Don't forget to brush your tongue! For flossing, use a generous piece and curve it into a "C" shape against the side of each tooth, sliding it up and down beneath the gumline. If traditional floss is difficult, we can recommend alternatives like water flossers or soft picks. A few minutes of proper technique, especially with an electric toothbrush, can make all the difference.

The "every six months" rule is a great baseline, but it isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Your ideal check-up frequency depends on your current oral health, risk factors, and treatment history. We customize recall schedules so we can prevent problems instead of just reacting to them.

If you have a low risk of cavities or gum disease, a cleaning and exam every six months may be perfect. However, if you are being treated for gum disease, have a history of frequent decay, are pregnant or a smoker, or manage a health condition like diabetes, we may recommend visits every three to four months. Seeing you a little more often lets us intervene quickly, keeping you comfortable, healthy, and confident in your smile.

A dental emergency—whether it's a severe toothache, a knocked-out tooth, or a broken tooth or crown—is stressful and painful. Knowing what to do and who to call can make all the difference in saving your tooth. We reserve time in our schedule every day to help patients with urgent needs.

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, time is critical. Hold it by the crown (not the root), gently rinse it without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket. If that's not possible, store it in milk or saliva and head to our office immediately.

For other emergencies such as pain, swelling, or broken restorations, call us right away. We will bring you in as soon as possible, relieve your discomfort, and outline a plan to restore your oral health.

Tooth pain is a warning sign that should never be ignored. It can range from a sharp, sudden sensitivity to a constant, throbbing ache, and it always indicates an underlying concern. Over-the-counter pain relievers may mask symptoms for a short time but they do not treat the source.

We use digital imaging and a detailed exam to pinpoint the exact cause—anything from a deep cavity or abscess to a cracked tooth or infected gum pocket. Treatment could be as simple as a filling or desensitizing treatment, or it may require a root canal to remove infection. Our goal is to get you out of pain quickly and return your mouth to full health.

Frequent headaches, earaches, jaw pain, or clicking when you chew could signal a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or TMD). This condition affects the joints and muscles that control jaw movement, and the discomfort can disrupt eating, sleeping, and overall quality of life.

We begin with a thorough evaluation of your jaw joint, muscles, and bite. Treatment is highly personalized and may include lifestyle adjustments such as a soft food diet, stress management techniques, guided exercises, or physical therapy.

Many patients benefit from a custom-fabricated nightguard or oral appliance that repositions the jaw to a more relaxed, neutral position while they sleep. In certain cases, therapeutic Botox injections help calm overactive muscles. Our focus is to relieve pain, protect your teeth, and help you enjoy everyday activities again.

Bruxism—the habit of grinding or clenching your teeth—often happens during sleep, so many people don't realize they do it until a partner hears the sound or a dentist spots the wear. Left untreated, it can lead to chipped or fractured teeth, chronic jaw pain, and frequent headaches.

The most effective solution is a custom night guard made right here in our practice. Unlike over-the-counter options, our guards are created from a precise digital model of your teeth for a secure, comfortable fit. The appliance creates a protective barrier between the upper and lower arches, absorbs grinding forces, and helps your jaw muscles relax.

If you've been told you don't have enough bone for a dental implant or that a bridge would look obvious or feel unstable, bone grafting can make implant treatment—and other dentistry—a realistic option. When a tooth is lost, the jawbone that supported it begins to deteriorate due to lack of stimulation, a process called resorption. This can leave the bone too thin or soft to support an implant.

Bone grafting is a common, highly successful procedure that rebuilds the jawbone. We place grafting material (synthetic, donor, or your own bone) in the area of loss, and it acts as a scaffold that encourages your body to regenerate healthy bone over several months. The result is a strong, stable foundation that allows us to place an implant securely and restore your smile with confidence.

That sharp zing when you enjoy ice cream or sip hot coffee is a classic sign of tooth sensitivity. It occurs when the dentin layer—full of microscopic tubules that lead straight to the nerve—becomes exposed through worn enamel, gum recession, decay, cracks, or even aging fillings.

The good news is that sensitivity is highly treatable. We start by identifying the root cause. Treatment may be as simple as applying a professional-grade desensitizing agent or fluoride varnish to block the tubules and calm nerve endings. If gum recession is the culprit, we may recommend a soft tissue graft with a specialist. When decay or cracks are to blame, a filling or crown can solve the issue. We'll also share toothpaste and technique tips to prevent the sensitivity from coming back.

You've invested time and energy into a straight smile with braces or clear aligners. To protect that investment, wearing your retainer is essential. Teeth have a natural "memory" and will always try to drift back to their original positions, especially right after treatment.

Our custom retainers are made from precise digital scans so they fit comfortably and hold your teeth exactly where they should be. We offer several discreet options, including clear plastic and traditional wire retainers, and we provide personalized wear schedules. In most cases, that means full-time wear for the first month after finishing aligner therapy, followed by nightly wear to maintain results long term.

Accidents during sports, falls, or other impacts can cause serious dental injuries—knocked-out teeth, fractures, or loosened teeth. Staying calm and acting quickly gives you the best chance of saving the tooth, and our experienced team is ready to help.

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, handle it only by the crown, gently rinse if needed, and try to reinsert it. If that isn't possible, store it in milk or saliva and contact us immediately.

For broken or damaged teeth, rinse with warm water and bring any pieces of a crown, bridge, or appliance to your visit. We will assess the injury and provide the right treatment, which may include splinting, root canal therapy, or reconstruction.

We invest in modern digital dentistry so your visits are efficient, precise, and comfortable. From diagnostics to treatment planning, these tools elevate every step of your experience.

Dental anxiety is common, and it shouldn't keep you from the care you need. Nitrous oxide—often called "laughing gas"—is a safe, gentle way to help patients relax during treatment, especially if you have a strong gag reflex or are planning a longer visit.

You'll breathe a blend of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a small mask, and within minutes you'll feel calm and at ease while remaining fully awake and responsive. The effects wear off almost immediately once the mask is removed, so you can return to your day right away, often able to drive yourself home.

We offer several ways to make care affordable, including flexible payment options, CareCredit, and most dental insurance plans. Ask about our VIP Dental Discount program—a great way for individuals and families without insurance to save on comprehensive care.

Fantastic experience: My first time at Friendly Dental was for the sake of significant dental work. I was scared, in pain, and completely unsure of what was to come. Let’s start with the office staff. Not only was Shannon incredibly professional, but she explained everything step by step in a way I could understand, and made sure didn’t feel even the slightest bit pressured into doing anything! She made everything 100% my decision and that is HUGE! Next, the clinical team was so amazing! They were gentle! I have always had major anxiety surrounding dental work and not a single person made it worse. I didn’t feel have much pain after because their aftercare instructions were so detailed! THANK YOU, Friendly Dental! For giving me my smile back!

Negative experience: Please don't go here, I would give this place zero stars if it was possible. The dentist is highly unprofessional and due to that she caused damage to my tooth.

Negative experience: WILL BE REPORTING Came in as a new patient Thursday, July 9 at 4 PM. Soon as I walked in, I could already tell the customer service was gonna be awful. I said hello. Nobody greeted me back Sharon or Shannon whatever her name was kind of just side eyes doesn’t speak as I’m filling out paperwork. I hear her speaking about another patient insurance and all this other stuff because it was causing her a problem having to do extra work. She has a nasty attitude all around (i’m not sure if she had an attitude because I came in at 4 PM. Y’all shouldn’t have scheduled me then. Then when I get brought to the back, they start taking x-rays right off the back the girl doing my x-rays doesn’t wash her hands or wear any gloves, she then tells my mom to wait in the hall just for the Sharon lady to come tell my mom that she can’t stand there With an attitude instead of just asking Then proceeded to talk about the patients as we are sitting in close Proximity to each other. To finish The grand finale when the Dentist came in, he was probably the best person to speak to through throughout this whole experience. BUT while he’s checking my teeth, the assistant who did my x-rays once again is handing him the tools that are going into my mouth without wearing any gloves….. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. The dental office itself was dirty and just nasty

Negative experience: Rude front desk staff, ignored us when we said Hello. The blonde was rude about me standing in the hallway , when that's where I was asked to stand by another staff member. You should be worried about your dental assistant not wearing gloves while sticking things in my daughters mouth. That's how things are transmitted. I will be contacting someone about this, I'm sure its a health code violation. Get it together that is disgusting and should not be ignored.

Negative experience: Terrible front desk people who don’t know what is going on and don’t communicate with one another when telling someone something. Answers are not consistent. They will cancel your appointments on you as well and schedule them out months later too.

Sherri Johnson Published on Google 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff made going to the dentist less stressful

Shonda Published on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Left me in the chair for an hour and half just to tell me I have a cavity but it’s another appointment to repair it and I need to spend 25,000 on bridges and crowns and what not! Do they not realize the insurance yearly gives $1500. Cmon I’m not rich! I walked out! She only wants to help rich people! Don’t waste yr time!

Cindy Causilla Martinez Published on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Extremely poor management. I scheduled a cleaning over a month ago. A week before the appointment, they called to move it from 3:00 PM to 2:30 PM, and I agreed. However, on the actual day of the appointment at 10:00 AM, they called again saying they couldn't see me unless I came in at 1:00 PM because the hygienist 'had to leave.' I couldn't do it because my husband had already taken the afternoon off work to watch our daughter so I could attend. It’s frustrating because they get upset if a patient cancels last minute, yet they do this to their patients. I do not recommend this place at all."

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed my visit today. My dentist is real cool. He is vey knowledgeable. I have an autoimmune disease, the way our conversation went left me feeling like I need to stick with him. He spoke with concern that amazed me!!

Sha’ W Dunagan Published on Google 7 months ago

Fantastic experience: I truly do not know where to begin. Dr. Williams literally saved my son‘s life. My son went to him a week ago and he put him on 7 day of antibiotics. We went back today to have two teeth removed. Most dentist offices would’ve put my son back on around an antibiotics again..BUT.. Because of all the years working with these kind of cases He was more comfortable having us go to the ER to check to make sure the infection hasn’t spread and to get IV Antibiotics. Because of his quick thinking, my son had an abscess that they are having to drain. If we would’ve went home with antibiotics, the outcome would not be what it’s gonna be now. Sincerely, from the depths of my heart thank you so much for caring for my son. Thank you for thinking quickly and thank you for not having $$ signs in your eyes to just treat him and send him home. I hope you realize your family now. Again thank you so much.

Fantastic experience: I had no trouble booking an emergency appointment. I couldn’t ask for better treatment from front office staff. Angel was the assistant tthat helped Dr. Z. He made sure I was comfortable and was very mindful of communicating to me what to expect in the coming days. Enter Dr. Z: ……very friendly. It seems I needed an antibiotic BEFORE he would perform the extraction. He had an antibiotic called in to my pharmacy, and after taking the antibiotic, I was allowed time the same day for the antibiotic to “ get in your system” then return and continue with the treatment. No one wants to lose a tooth, but everyone on the staff was very gracious and exceptional to me. While waiting in the front office to go into my dental extraction I was able to watch the girls react to patients both coming into the office and talking on the phone with other patients. 5 stars! Again, 5 stars from me. Dr. Z and the staff who helped make it ( I can’t say enjoyable) very laid back and tolerable during the entire process. Highly recommend!!!

Negative experience: Review for Friendly Dental – Kannapolis, NC Date of Incident: December 8, 2025 I had an extremely disappointing experience with the office manager, Shannon, at this location. On three separate occasions, she spoke to me in a condescending tone, and she also cut me off and spoke over me while I was trying to explain my situation, which was extremely unprofessional. Most recently, on December 8, 2025, I was refused the ability to reschedule my appointment because of their policy not allowing my 5-year-old daughter in the room, even though she needed to be seen by her doctor that same day for a possible ear infection. There was no compassion, flexibility, or understanding shown for my situation as a parent. When the office manager treats patients this way, it reflects poorly on the entire practice. Policies may exist, but basic respect and empathy should always come first in healthcare. Because of how I was treated, I will not be returning.

Negative experience: Worst dental office I've even been to. Your first visit is wonderful, but after that it is downhill. Getting an appointment to see the dentist is like pulling teeth. I have been trying for months to get a partial to fit correctly and each time I call for an appointment to adjust them (4 times) I have to wait weeks, because according to front desk doctor is never in or there is nothing available. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. Stay far away from this place

Negative experience: As I’m writing this, I’ve been sitting in the waiting room for almost an hour. My original appointment was at 11:00 AM. At 9:18 AM, the dentist’s office called and told me I could come in early, so I arrived within 10 minutes. After waiting for about 20 minutes, they changed my appointment time to 10:00 AM instead of 11:00 AM. Since then, I’ve watched multiple people who arrived after me past the 10am time — including one woman and later an elderly couple — get called back before me. When I asked the two ladies at the front desk why they told me to come in early for a possible cancellation when there clearly weren’t any, they said I’d have to wait for the doctor, who was in a procedure. I specifically mentioned on the phone that I was only coming for X-rays, yet I’m still sitting here waiting with no update. It feels like every time I visit this office, I’m made to wait while others who come in after me are seen first. At this point, I can’t help but feel there might be a deeper reason behind it.

Negative experience: Staff was nice, dentist barely acknowledged my daughter. Didn't really address her pain on one side of her mouth, but made sure to find three cavities on the other side he wanted to treat. Sent us out of the office with pain, a referral slip and no answers.

Fantastic experience: Very professional staff. I had a few billing/insurance concerns and the office manager talked me through how to get it resolved. She was very compassionate and knowledgeable. Wonderful experience overall, I will return.

Negative experience: Friendly dental is not so friendly they have horrible service and they are very inconsistent with information my grand mother went in April and had her teeth removed for dentures and it's now August and she still does not have dentures after they gave multiple dates for her to come back to receive them. Not to mention they knew she had dual insurances they still over charged her $100 and refuses to pay her back knowing that she's on a fixed income. I definitely do not recommend. I wish I could give them a negative star for senior abuse .

Negative experience: Worst dental experience I have ever encountered in my life. There is nothing friendly about this dental group. Staff is unprofessional, always inconsistent when it comes to information, lies to the customer constantly. The office is ran poorly front and back. There is no accountability for misinformation and always want a 100.00 deposit for anything make me think it's a scam and the deposit is never returned. Complaints/Concerns are never taking serious. The owners of this group are only out for profit no real care for people of any race or age. PLEASE RUN DO NOT WALK OR INQUIRE ABOUT ANY FRIENDLY DENTAL GROUP

Negative experience: I’ve been a patient at this facility for years, but I am DONE. The dentists are fantastic, gentle, caring, and great at what they do, but the front office is running this place into the ground. The office manager? Rude, unprofessional, and completely lacking in compassion. In my opinion, she seems impaired every time I visit. • 12 months on a cleaning “waitlist” with zero outreach. • Paid $500 for a mouth guard that was supposed to take 2 weeks but took 3 months to get because orders were “forgotten” and “lost.” I had to chase every single update. • Today was the final straw. 8:00 a.m. appointment, waited 15 minutes, then told it was canceled. No apology. No concern that I was now late for work. The dentists deserve better, and so do the patients. Until this office replaces its management, I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy.

Negative experience: My family has been going here for around 10 years. Never had any issues until recently. The office manager is so rude and unprofessional. The canceling/changing appointments the day of your appointment is ridiculous. Can’t ever get our insurance right. Can’t ever answer the phone or return calls. When I asked for her supervisors number she said there wasn’t one. Someone needs to do something about this. According to the reviews, I’m not alone. All other associates are great and always have been.

Negative experience: Loved my dentist but absolutely will not go back after calling and speaking to office manager, horrible customer service- called to reschedule due to being sick and is lectured on broken appointments, apparently you get 5 in the entire time you’re a patient- even over 15 years. Yet they cancel on patients all the time. Maybe when someone calls in and you can hear they’re sick don’t continue pushing broken policy that I was repeatedly told in such a condescending way. How about a little concern and compassion I could’ve come in sick and infected everyone but I’m considerate and called!!

Negative experience: This is a awful place for anyone to go. My daughter appointment has been canceled 4 times which she is a college student and have had to plan ahead each time by reaching out to professors to let them know she will not be there. So this time when it was canceled, we requested to have her chart transfer. We asked to speak to a manager the manager was very nasty. Then she let me know that she was not doing anything and was going to dismiss her and basically we were not gonna get anything. I did go to the place. When I arrive, they called the police and I let them know that was ok . Then she lied and said that I threatened her but when the police came, there was no issue or no problems and then I requested to have her chart sent over she would not give any information on the regional manager or anybody above her and just was giving me the runaround so basically it is a terrible place to go. She proceeded to tell the police that she would have the chart sent over from the corporate, so I am waiting now to see what happens

Negative experience: The most unprofessional dentist i’ve been to. Continues to cancel appointment two days before I am a college student and have tried to make appointments and rearranged my schedule to drive down and miss class. They are extremely inconvenient and inconsiderate of other peoples time. While also the receptionist lied about where her manager was and didn’t want me to speak to a manager. The absolute worse.

Fantastic experience: I am a nurse, and I am not afraid of needles. I have been using them for over 42 years but I have a severe phobia of going to the dentist because of some past experiences I had as a child. However, going to see Dr.Sonceau and her staff was great and I will now make sure I keep up my appointments. From the front staff all the way to the treatment area, they are so nice and professional.

Negative experience: Awful communication. Have the text messages confirming Appt. Show up at time, and they have no dental hygienists apparently in office at all. So unprofessional. All you have to do is pick up phone and CALL and tell someone not to come. I will be calling office manager tomorrow. This is the second big thing they have done that’s so so unprofessional. Reading through reviews this is a recurring problem!!

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience from the time I got checked in, until I was done. Fymo is an excellent dental assistant. Highly recommend!!!

Negative experience: First of all, they couldn't schedule me till about 6 months out for my cleaning, the day comes and I show up, and they tell me there's no hygienist and they have to reschedule me.. so I had to wait almost another 2 months. They call me the day before appt telling me that once again they need to cancel my appt due to no hygienist. This place is a joke. You been warned. Avoid this place!!

Negative experience: I visited this Friendly Dental location after being referred to an out-of-network endodontist for possible root canal treatment. I used my insurance providers search function to find an endodontist that is covered, and this group was listed. I looked at their website, which verbatim says they can provide root canal treatments. I called to confirm coverage and explained that I likely needed a root canal, and the receptionist assured me that they could do that. I arrived for my appointment and should have left immediately. I had to wait for the door to be unlocked for me (this was at 2pm), and the waiting room was barren and dirty, with cobwebs hanging from the undersides of chairs. I was called back and explained the purpose of my visit, and the technician said that they in fact would likely not be able to perform the treatment (recall that my insurance AND their website AND their receptionist says they can). She proceeds to take x-rays on the same type of machine that my general dentist did a week prior, after telling me they LIKE to use their own. The dentist, who is not even listed on their website, then came in and told me the same. If I could give negative stars I would. My insurance company will also be hearing from me as they are partially to blame, but these people are liars and have no issue taking your money afterwards. I have never seen such an unprofessional, dirty, unsavory healthcare or dental provider. In hindsight, bullet dodged, and you should dodge it too.

Negative experience: Family Dental has the worst office staff I have ever come in contact with. I began my experience of replacing my dentures on January 18,2024. It is now March 26, 2024, having been paid in full by my insurance company, and after multiple times of returning dentures to lab because of improper fit I received a phone call 3 hours before my scheduled appointment to receive my new dentures, from a person named Jeff the CEO to inform me that A full refund was being sent to my insurance company, the dentist had been terminated, and I was free to find another dentist elsewhere. After numerous phone calls from staff changing appointments and being lied to about delivery of dentures from lab, with numerous excuses. The rude manager Daisy, has no respect for anyone. The CEO was also VERY rude. So 2 months later, I have filed a grievance with my insurance company reporting this conduct.

Fantastic experience: I had scheduled my appointment well in advance. Unfortunately, my daughter is sick today, so I had to cancel my appointment. The office staff and management team were so courteous and understanding. They were empathetic and helped fit me in the next week, so I did not have to go very long between cleanings. Many thanks to a great team and a job well done!
