Surprise Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics

Fantastic experience: Today our son had his first procedure done, besides having regular cleanings. They had to pull two baby teeth as they weren’t falling out on their own. Jocelyn Calcagno did the procedure. She was absolutely amazing with Matthew. She let him know every move that she was going to make prior to doing it. Her communication skills were perfection. She was very kind and caring during this process. We appreciate the staff that works there from the front office to the back rooms. Our son was happy with how quick the process was.

Fantastic experience: Surprise Pediatric Dentistry is amazing; we had the best experience coming here. Francis, Dr. Jose, and the entire office staff are wonderful.

Negative experience: They treated my son well, but we ended up getting a surprise bill 3 months after his last cleaning because they don't accept our insurance. They didn't tell us before or during the appointment that this was the case. It's really sad when people don't take the time to do a job right.

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience! Kayla was so sweet and patient with my child. Dr. Maddox was thorough, kind, and explained the X-rays in an easy way. I loved that she referred to my daughter as “sweet Lily” — such a thoughtful touch! They even fit my 10-month-old in for back-to-back appointments next time, which I truly appreciated as a mom of three. We arrived early, were taken back right away, and were done by 10:15. Efficient, friendly, and wonderful care — highly recommend! ✨

Fantastic experience: My 10 year old son has ADHD and mild autism. Going to the dentist for him is filled with stress and anxiety. Kaylee was amazing during his cleaning. She helped him by giving him breathing exercises and she worked quickly and kept him very comfortable the whole time. We hope to work with her every time! She made the experience a good one.

Fantastic experience: This practice is amazing!!! We have been taking our kids there for the last 5 years since we moved to the area and I am so grateful we have such a wonderful practice so close to home. They are patient and kind with my kids and very thorough in their work. Highly recommend!!

Fantastic experience: We love Dr Maddox, she is so kind and thorough and provides just the right kind of gentle and steady direction for kids to get through what could have been tough appointments! And Dr Bland is anything but, he is such a sweet southern man who makes everyone feel comfortable. Surprise Pediatric dentistry is the best! Francis, the dental hygienist is an absolute doll and cares so much for the kids, and Kelly the office manager is terrific! The entire staff there is truly remarkable and have made our experiences so much better than we could have expected. They go above and beyond and we are grateful.

Fantastic experience: Dr Olga and the entire staff at the Surprise office are wonderful. My kids have been going there since they were little and look forward to their visits. The team and Dr Olga always explain what they are doing and answer any questions we may have. You can tell they care about their patients.

Fantastic experience: Kylie was AMAZING! We’ve never had issues here before but my youngest has a lot of dentist anxiety and she made him totally comfortable while getting his teeth clean too. Even though he’s 9 she explained each tool and showed him it to make him comfortable and asked him when he was ready and what parts made him nervous. We’ve used this dentist since moving here 3 years ago with no issues but, this was above and beyond and he said he didn’t mind going again when usually he cries even mentioning it. Thank you so much for taking your time more than anyone else has done.

Fantastic experience: Everyone here is so kind and the office is very welcoming and warm. My son just had to get some dental work done and had to go under anesthesia today. Dr. Bland made me and my husband feel extremely comfortable and was really awesome with our son, even the anesthesiologist. We have also came here prior for his cleanings and the hygienist are awesome too. I cannot say enough great things, especially being a nervous parent they really do a great job at explaining and treat your kiddos like their own. Thanks Dr. Bland again for being so kind, and treating our kiddo.

Negative experience: My two children both needed cavity work done about a year ago. I was uncomfortable because instead of doing one quickly at a time, they went back and forth between the two room elongating the process they are drugged and have uncomfortable jaw pain. Fast forward to a year later, I switched dentist places and did x-rays to find out the pulpotomy (removing part of a tooth's pulp when a cavity has hit the nerve) - they only did a partial pulpotomy on my child. Our new dentist showed us with the x-ray the pulp wasn't fully removed. It was a partial pulpotomy (procedure I paid in full for was done wrong and unfinished) which leads to greater increase of infection under the tooth which would lead to removal of the tooth altogether. The dentist that performed this partial pulpotomy was a female. I did notice when I was last at Surprise Pediatric Dentistry, they recently hired a male doctor. Maybe he is better and more experienced with these procedures, but I would definitely not recommend the female docs at this place!!!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Triggs is an AMAZING orthodontist!! He pays attention to the little details and acknowledges when I have concerns about my treatment I feel like I am getting the best orthodontic treatment out there!

Fantastic experience: Frances assisted Dr. Bland during our daughter’s procedure, and she went above and beyond to make us all feel comfortable! She gave us a detailed explanation and courteous walkthrough of what to expect, and she was very professional, warm, and friendly throughout the entire visit! Dr. Bland did an excellent job on our daughter’s dental work! This staff is superb! Their level of expertise and customer service is UNMATCHED! They truly deserve 6 stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Fantastic experience: Dr Bland isn’t so bland after all! In fact, I can easily say this was the best dental visit myself or my kids have had. He sang and played guitar for all kids and was utmost kind and compassionate. The entire staff was friendly and personable as well. I hope this staff stays long term. My kids and I would be sad if we no longer could enjoy having them around. Thanks for a great service!

Negative experience: Had to revise my review. The last few times i took my now 7 year old havent been good experiences he alawsys sees a different doctor the techs are not the nicest. My oldest goes upstairs to the ortho office they are great but the dental side not so much.

Fantastic experience: After years of horrible dental experiences, I was at my wits end as a mama. Dental visits were exhausting physically and mentally for me and my three children. We gave Surprise Pediatric Dentistry a try after a few mom's had suggested them. From the very first visit only a few months ago, to an extensive procedure my youngest daughter underwent yesterday, we have been so happy with this office! My 5 year old went from clinging to my body every time we walked into the dentist, to willingly allowing the staff here to do x-rays and a cleaning on her first visit there! The front desk staff is very friendly and empathetic and Dr. Maddox and Dr. Bland have been nothing but patient and kind with all of my kids (and myself). All of the techs go above and beyond to make sure the kids are comfortable, but also educated on their dental hygiene. The office is kid friendly and inviting with the cute treehouse and fun holiday decorations every season. We will forever sing their praises!

Negative experience: We thought this would be a good office to take my daughter too but it has become a nightmare! Her expander was not made correctly 3 times. Then they put blue paste all over her molar to keep if from falling after it fell out 3 times again. Now its pushing up into her gums and we've made an Appointment, however they made it worse. We are now looking into another office. Any recommendations are welcome.

Fantastic experience: The provider was superb. The office staff amazing. The anesthesiologist so kind. This was the first office that treated me and my kid with the same care that I would if I was taking care of us. AMAZING. I don’t have the words for the level of care we received.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this dentist for about a year! They have done amazing work on my 4 year olds teeth. Today I saw Dr Jenson and he was super knowledgeable and I felt like I knew what he was talking about. He pulled my sons tooth today and it was quick.

Fantastic experience: My 8 year old son is VERY dramatic, & has ZERO pain tolerance!!‍♀️ But with ALL of that, the AMAZING staff was able too get 4 fillings & a crown done, in about an hour!! They didn't put him too sleep, & THEY WERE SO PATIENT & UNDERSTANDING!!!!! I honestly could go on & on. Staff SUPER FRIENDLY! Office is CLEAN, they have lil TVs on the ceilings for the kids too watch while laying down, Dentists & DAs we're all EXTREMELY helpful, knowledgeable, & are GREAT explaining it too the kids!! Very comfortable environment, they work with you!! Not your typical dentist! ❤️ I will NEVER take my baby ANYWHERE ELSE!!

Fantastic experience: Had appointments for 3 of my kids, they accommodated us perfectly. Great atmosphere for the kids (and parents.) Parents are allowed in the back with kids during cleaning etc, and staff is really friendly. We saw Dr Kalamchi, and she was great. She took the time to go over everything with me and answered any questions I had. We moved here from Florida, so we’re “starting over” with all our Dr’s, it’s really convenient that the orthodontist is right upstairs if needed (hopefully the Dr’s are just as great!)

Negative experience: Dr Jensen had a total lack of regard for my son's pain when the anesthetic wasn't working and seemed annoyed that he didn't just push through the pain and grip the handrails tight. Further, the doctor seemed very lacking in ability or willingness to troubleshoot the pain when a possible root issue was questioned. Don't trust your care to sometime that doesn't care.

Fantastic experience: Everyone is so good with kids at Surprise Pediatric Dentistry, especially with little ones that have very intense fears. My 4 1/2 yo son was very nervous about having a cavity filled today. When we left he was so happy he said, "I don't know what I was worried about, I wish I had more cavities to fill!" Now... I have lost my way to convince him to brush his teeth, but at least he isn't afraid of the dentist anymore!!!

Negative experience: Dr Miner is gone. this is no longer a practice for special needs children!!!!!!!!!! Went to my daughter's appointment today expecting Dr Miner. was met with new staff, which was fine. she had a crown that fell off and needed put back on. the staff checked fitting and alignment and in the process my daughter told her it hurt. which she replied "it doesn't hurt". wrong if a child tells you it hurts, stop, think, use the knowledge you learned in school, and figure out what the problem might be. the details are too horrific and long for here. in short as we were about to leave they made comment, " well if the tooth was exposed for 2 days, it may have irritated the nerve and caused pain." Duh, listen to the patient! it's not your tooth. you don't know if it hurts or not. all that happened, they dubed her as uncooperative and wanted to give her gas??? giving one star because of the lack of ability to give negative stars. they need to get their act together or close their doors.

My children been with this practice for over five years always clean- kind- professional on time- anytime we had an emergency Dr. Miner was on it the next day!! The hygienists have been very sweet and patient with my ultra sensitive child. The dentist is extremely knowledgeable and just a very positive person! He really makes my kiddo feel comfortable in a very "uncomfortable" situation. Let's face it, no one likes to be in the dentist chair but everyone at Surprise Pediatric Dentistry makes it an enjoyable experience!! I highly recommend this office!!!

Russia and Dr. Jensen were AMAZING with her. They were patient, kind and reassured her of the process. I am so glad we found this office!

Fantastic experience: After many years of using another pediatric dentist in Surprise I decided to get a second opinion here. Dr Jensen and his assistant were very nice and accommodating. Dr Jensen took the time to explain the procedure as well as long term treatment one of the kids needs. He was great with my daughter and also cared about my questions and concerns as he took time to address and explain. The kids, ranging from 3 to 9 years old, loved this place so much and have all requested to go back. Even though only 1 was seen as a patient, the staff made all my kids feel welcome and they had so much fun in their play area. The whole staff is wonderful!

Fantastic experience: Dr Jensen is the most amazing dentist i have ever taken my autistic son to. I highly recommend him to and cold with dental needs

Negative experience: I am editing from 5 stars down to 1. My son was seeing thing for a few years. They had to pull a tooth from my son because the cavity they fixed, didn't take. After which he had to have a spacer put in to keep a tooth in the back in place. Over the next 18+ months, my son had to have the spacer fixed multiple times along with normal check ups. After all that time nothing was said to myself or my husband about the spacer not working. Only after a great length of time did they say it didn't work and he would need a retainer. They had x-rays to show the tooth was still pushing forward. They NEVER said a word until it was to late for it to even work. Not only did they not tell us, they referred us to their sister location. Shame on you for letting my son suffer to try and get extra money. Needless to say, we have decided to move onto a new dentist after the stunt they pulled. I would not recommend them to care for anyone's children.

Fantastic experience: My son went in for the first time and got treated immediately. They did so well putting in his crowns. My son said he felt nothing and he is doing well. We will continue to go here

Fantastic experience: My boys LOVE going to see Dr. Jensen and the staff at Surprise Pediatric Dentistry. The hygienists do a good job on their cleanings and X-rays (even when one of my boys who has special needs isn’t so cooperative). At today’s visit he excitedly volunteered to go first, held super still for his X-rays, and was excited to see the new teeth coming up under his first two wiggly teeth. And big brother rocked his whole visit too. Still 100% cavity free!

Fantastic experience: We love everything about this office. The front desk staff are welcoming and kind. The office itself is not only decorated well, but also incredibly clean. All of the staff in every area are friendly and I love that my boys always get the same hygienist to take their x-rays and clean their teeth. The dentist is great and easygoing.

Negative experience: The hygienists and office staff are wonderful. It is the dentist himself that earned the one star. My 9 year old son's procedure started out just fine, there was some mild discomfort, but that was expected. As it continued, my son started crying hysterically, and tried to tell the dentist something was wrong, it was hurting too badly. Not only was the dentist seemingly annoyed and impatient, he demanded my husband hold our son down so he could get it done with. By the end of it, my child was throwing up and inconsolable. This happened over 2 years ago. My son NEVER had issues before this experience. He was so traumatized by this, he developed an extreme anxiety disorder going to ANY doctor. Thanks Dr. Jensen.

Negative experience: Nice experiences in the past but today was not. They left my 5 year old on gas for 40 minutes while the dentist (new guy, not Jensen) saw several other patients. She was doing wonderful while they replaced her filling but she got more and more stressed the longer she had to wait for her tooth to be pulled. When he finally returned to my crying 5 year old it took him 3 minutes to pull her tooth. No way should she have been made to wait and get so upset like that. I was furious. Next time I will not allow the dentist to leave the room. The tech as so rude and didn't apologize at all or seem to let the dentist know my daughter was in distress. I am happy we are moving and I won't have to take my 5 year old back.

Negative experience: Dentist have always been awesome however, I've had 2 office conversations where office staff have been short and unprofessional. Our family encourages kindness and respect. Let's remember your business functions in a small community.

Fantastic experience: My 17 month old daughter is extremely sensitive when it comes to her teeth. I was extremely nervous to go to the appointment with her but we had to, she has her front teeth crushing but this place was so amazing from reception to the procedures she had to have OMG! It was such a relief for me, she didn't even want to leave the place afterwards! Of course there were some tears and crying involved but the office team was so supportive and understanding. Special great thanks for doctor's assistant Rursha, she made this experience so nice and smooth! My daughter absolutely loved her and now I am looking forward to come back! These guys changed my whole perspective on pediatric dentistry! Dr. Jensen seemed a little busy as usually doctors are but he explained the issues and our options, no pressure so I felt informed and free to make my own decision. Thank you! See you soon

Fantastic experience: We love it here! I have three girls 7,5 & 2. Everyone is so sweet from the moment you walk in to the time you leave. We had been to another area dentist and tried to “force” my youngest on the table, that was the last time went there, this is why kids are stead and why adults grow up not going. Then we found surprise family dentistry and my 2.5 year old has gotten xrays,teeth cleaned the two times we went. They take their time, help each patient and makes them feel comfortable. They remind me of my dentist growing up and I never have had a fear of the dentist and you shouldn’t if you have experiences like here. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I would recommend them over and over again. They are wonderful, patient, and take their time to really explain the process to children. From the warm welcome to the dentist himself, I could not ask for a better group of people to be their for my son who doesn't always allow people to touch him. Because of them my son is not afraid to go to the dentist.

Fantastic experience: We love this place! Even since we have moved to Gilbert, we will make the 2 hour round trip to stay here as every member of the team is amazing! My little ones still want to see the dentist and my teenager has braces that won't last for years to be completed. We would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality dentist. Fantastic experience: Dr. Jenson and Jamie were wonderful today. My daughter had a procedure done, and thanks to their kindness and gentleness my daughter handled it like a champion. She wasn’t scared or nervous. While we didn’t enjoy the procedure, I trusted the Dr and his staff to take care of her. I would recommend everyone to this office.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Jensen is by far our favorite dentist. We have been blessed to be patients of his since the practice opened. His staff is incredibly kind and organized. Dr. Jensen is thorough, gentle, is a fabulous communicator, and genuinely cares about his patients. I highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Took my son for first time. Inside was awesome and clean. The play areas kept him busy. Unfortunately my child wasn't happy getting looked at but who is right? And even though he was loud, they were all still super nice,even other customers. Atmosphere was welcoming. Very happy with how they were towards my son. We will be making this his dentist. Fantastic experience: Would highly highly recommend! The receptionist was super nice and sweet. She was able to get me in right away for my sons first ever dentist appointment. We walked in and filled out paperwork. I’ve never been to a place where I don’t feel rushed while filling out paperwork, but here she told me to take my time and I actually got to finish filling it out before we were called to the back. The lady who cleaned my sons teeth was so nice! She was so good with him. She even went out of her way to find the Spider-Man toothbrush he wanted! They said he did so well for his age. Best service I’ve ever received at any doctor/ dentist. Thank you for all you do. You guys are awesome!!
