Fantastic experience: I saw Dr. Greenbaum at Bethesda Dental to learn more about an oral sleep appliance since I currently use a CPAP. He was very thorough and took the time to explain how the appliance works, what to expect, and whether it would be a good option for me. I never felt rushed, and he answered all of my questions in a way that was easy to understand. His team was also friendly and welcoming, which made the entire visit feel comfortable. I really appreciated how informative and personal the experience was. Anyone who uses a CPAP and is interested in learning about other options should consider meeting with Dr. Greenbaum.

Negative experience: If you’re a veteran using VA Community Care, I recommend looking elsewhere. I scheduled this appointment a week in advance. I drove to the office for my appointment only to be told, after I arrived, that they were still waiting for authorization from the VA and couldn’t see me. If the authorization hadn’t been received, why was my appointment scheduled in the first place? And more importantly, why wasn’t I called before I drove there? My time was completely wasted because of poor communication and a lack of coordination between the office and the VA. A simple phone call could have saved me the trip. Veterans often have to travel, take time off work, or rearrange their schedules for these appointments. This office showed no respect for that. Until they improve their communication and ensure VA authorizations are in place before scheduling or at least before patients arrive, I cannot recommend them to other veterans seeking Community Care dental services.

Negative experience: I thought I could give this dental office a chance. I gave them multiple chances. They completely failed me as a patient. The positive is that Dr. Nhu is really nice. However, there are too many negative experiences with this staff, the office, and the practice overall. I first scheduled an appointment for dental work that would have taken 2-4 hours. Instead, it took a whole day because the entire staff members were too busy talking and gossiping. I also paid my $413.20 copay and other fees on time on the spot. Then a month later, a surprised bill of an additional $202.90 arrived. I called multiple times and went in person to get answers to my questions. They kept brushing it off or saying they would get back to me. Then another 2 months later, finally James David called me and said that the person responsible for billing inquiry was out for 2 months. Really? Seriously? Why did it take them that long to clarify. They make too many excuses. I also found James David to be very apathetic, rude, and dismissive. I also asked if they submitted the medical codes and bills correctly to insurance. I had never experienced such bad services or surprised bills since all of my previous insurance and current insurance work well with the other dental offices. They called me multiple times to pick up my retainers, which I had to call off early at my work so I could go to the dental office. The retainers were not ready during the first 2 times that they called me. They lost it in the storage room! Their office was a mess. I was beginning to lose patience. Overall, I gave them too many chances. I have to look out for my best interests and my wellbeing. I will not come back here nor recommend them to anyone. Even after I asked to close my account multiple times, they still emailed and texted me to come for more procedures. I decided to go to other more professional dental practices. Also the parking situation here is terrible with limited spots, narrow lanes, and expensive parking rates. I’m glad that other dental offices in the Maryland area have better parking with larger and free spots.

Fantastic experience: I’ve never written a review about a dental experience before, but this one is absolutely warranted. I can’t say enough amazing things about Dr. Nhu, she truly is one of a kind. In my opinion, she sets the gold standard for dentists!!! I really hope she knows how amazing she is, she is kind, attentive, and patient, and she walked me through every step of the process while following up with me from beginning to end. She went out of her way to make me feel comfortable during my visit and made me feel like I was her top priority, especially when I was experiencing sensitivity. From beginning to end, I felt completely taken care of. The entire staff deserves recognition as well, everyone I encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring. The front desk made scheduling and check-in effortless, and the dental assistants were incredibly gentle, attentive, and reassuring throughout my visit. You can tell this team truly works together to create a positive and comfortable experience for their patients. Going to the dentist has always been a stressful experience for me, but this team has completely changed that. I’ve finally found a dental office that has erased those fears. Thank you all for being so wonderful!

Negative experience: Unfortunately, I’ve had a terrible experience. I had back to back appointments over 4 months ago and paid upfront and out of pocket—btw, they do not accept HSA cards. My insurance cut a check for my reimbursement within 10 days after my visit. As of today, February 19, 2026, I STILL have not received what I am owed. I called every day this week and all of my calls (at least 3x a day) went both unanswered and unreturned. While I’m not hurting for the money, what about patients of theirs that might be? And it is completely unacceptable either way. I’ve made all communication efforts, no one has ever reached out proactively to provide updates. I also had a negative experience with the female dentist, I cannot recall her name. She made a very distasteful comment and asked me “What happened that you have such bad gum disease? You’re so young for it to be this advanced, I wish we could have found someone like you while I was in school.” As if I’m a specimen and not a human being. There were other people in the room and I was so caught off guard at the lack of couth, embarrassed, and choked up with tears all I could do was grimace and sit there. All of this in my first interaction with her. Surely empathy and compassion are a part of training, and if they aren’t they should be. I would never recommend anyone to patronize this practice and I will be moving forward with taking action against them.

Fantastic experience: Following up on a recent sleep apnea diagnosis, I first visited Dr Greenbaum’s office last November. I was evaluated and fitted for a dental appliance for apnea. My experience with the office has been very positive. All staff -administrative and dental specialists - are very personable, knowledgeable and responsive. My follow-ups have been helpful and my sleeping experience has improved significantly. I am happy with my care.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Luong is so patient and kind and explains what to expect every step of the way! I have dental anxiety and can have a hard time during procedures. She put me at ease and let me go at my own pace. So happy with my experience with Dr. Luong!

Negative experience: I could not tolerate my CPAP machine and finally made an appointment with Dr. Greenbaum for an oral appliance. He was wonderful. I was told it should be about 2-3 weeks for the appliance to come in and that staff would coordinate w/ my PCP for a letter and insurance approval etc. Well that was 3 months ago! My appointment with the doctor was on 10/15/25. I called 3 different times and the front office staff told me someone would call me back, which did not happen. Not one update in 3 months. Unacceptable! Finally I called a fourth time to get a refund for the $400 I was charged for the appliance that I never received (still waiting for it). I asked to speak with a Manager or the doctor himself and crickets. Again Dr. Greenbaum is great but is losing my family and friends as clients as some his other staff either can't give/take messages or return phone calls. Sad.

Fantastic experience: Very professional, efficient, and friendly staff! Great communication with the team via email and phone. I needed to get a custom made sleep apnea dental device and had some insurance obstacles that were complicated further with the holidays and approaching end of benefits for the year, yet their team was able to successfully get my claim processed! The office is very clean, and to my knowledge, the equipment is all relatively new. Will definitely return!

Positive experience: James is a very good dental assistant I worked with for my TAP appliance who was very patient and skilled. Dr. Greenbaum is a good dentist and made a great appliance for my snoring issue even though there was a problem with the TAP recently. Dr.Greenbaum returned the appliance to the lab immediately for repair. I am happy with all of the staff as well who are very nice and attentive.

Negative experience: I quit the practice 10 years ago when my son was recommended an unnecessary procedure, and haven’t set foot there since, but they continue to send me bills for a visit last year that I never made. Multiple calls and letters to the billing office, and the dunning never stops. I have asked to be removed from their patient records but they don’t do it. Would not recommend this office.

Fantastic experience: I had some work done recently (removal of stain and decay; then fillings) by Dr. Nhu Thuy H. Luong (DDS, MS) and it was a top-notch experience. She listened to my concerns and history of reaction to epinephrine-containing novocaine, utilized an anesthetic without epinephrine, worked quickly around the faster wear-off time of the med, and provided me with a pain-free, complication-free experience. The polishing and fitting of the fillings to accommodate my bite was excellent and I did not experience any rubbing or discomfort in the area afterward. I will be going back for more work and am pleased to recommend this dental office as I've had good experiences with Dr. Greenbaum as well, plus the staff. Update, 5/19/25: Just got a chipped tooth repaired - same dentist and same great experience. Dr. Nhu fit my bite perfectly with the patch and the tooth is better protected. Happy to continue recommending this practice!

Fantastic experience: To folks with sleep apnea, I highly recommend a dental appliance as preferable alternative to CPAP or BIPAP machines that push air into your mouth and lungs. Dr. Greenbaum and his attentive staff at the Bethesda Center for Family & Cosmetic Dentistry did a great job of custom fitting me with this fancy mouthguard like device that, with adjustment, has radically reduced my apneas, given me more deep sleep and eliminated my snoring. As a consequence, my wife gets far less headaches - which I am embarrassed to say - we discovered had resulted from my snoring! Our health insurance covered most of the cost of the dental appliance and it does not use any electricity. Doc and his assistants in the back are patient and always explain your scenario to ensure you know what is going on and what to expect. The team upfront always greet you with a smile and will bend over backwards to get insurance ironed out and any files you need for your PCM.

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. Wasted tons of money and an entire year of my life on their custom made devices which did absolutely nothing for me. It was always impossible to get a follow up appointment and I would have to wait for months to be seen. The worst part was that Dr Greenbaum was extremely negligent, rude, obstinate, and completely unhelpful. Save yourself the time and money and see a different doctor. I wish I could have done the same.

Fantastic experience: Such a friendly and professional office. I was dreading my trip to the dentist and running late. The staff was flexible and understanding and accommodated my situation. Tony was my dental hygienist and she is excellent! Tony was gentle, talked me through the whole process, and answered all my questions. Dr. Luong was incredible. Usually doctors feel a bit removed from the conversation but she was warming and easy to understand; she took the time to explain the plan and made sure I was on board. I’m happy I found my new dental fam!

Fantastic experience: I recently returned to Dr. Greenbaum after a 5 year hiatus. My apnea is severe. I needed to consult M.D. sleep specialists. Unfortunately, the CPAP/BIPAP. machines and my nose were incompatible. I hoped that Dr. Greenbaum could offer a pathway to partial relief. Returning was a good move. Dr. Greenbaum is a doctor's doctor. He immediately understood the issues and prescribed a plan of attack. I am more optimistic than in many years.

Negative experience: I went to this dentist for many years because they do decent work and I liked the office but I started to notice that every single time there was some issue with the billing and I was being overcharged. It would take numerous phone calls and weeks to resolve. The last time I went I was told I needed a couple large fillings, then mid-procedure I was suddenly strongly advised I should get an inlay (I was not even warned this could be a possibility). I had only few minutes to decide and they had already started drilling/taking out old fillings so I was not able to check my insurance or do any research, but I was repeatedly told it was the clear option and was assured my insurance would cover part of it. Well, they didn’t, so the cost was astronomical (4000 dollars), which was over double what they quoted me. They wrote off some of the money but I will never go back - they clearly have shady billing practices.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Nhu is awesome. When I called a left a message they called me back in a reasonable amount of time and worked to squeeze me into the schedule so my tooth could be repaired before it got worse. When I arrived for my appointment Dr. Nhu listened to my problem, then quickly figured out how to fix it. I’ve been to lots of dentists, this practice is one of the best.

Negative experience: My visit today was a disappointment because it seems that the office is mainly concerned about their profits and bottom line and not very caring about their patients financial situation. Due to health and other reasons I currently find myself in a very difficult financial situation with no income and asked twice if the office could as a courtesy possibly reduce the cost of their charges and after speaking with the owner or management they unequivocally replied no and that "business is business". The amount that they charge for a simple adjustment also seems a bit excessive given the amount of time required. Glad we're moving to Europe where the cost of dental care is a fraction of what it is here.

Fantastic experience: I received dental splints yesterday & last night I was able to sleep more than 3 hours without waking up in years. I had been suffering with just a Pap machine & its side effects for 5 years before I saw Dr. Greenbaum, & deeply regret not seeing him sooner.

Positive experience: They told me I was up for my 5 year x-ray, so I believed them and proceeded with getting them done. When billing my dental insurance, I was technically at 4yrs and 10 months. The insurance stood firm by the 5yr requirements upon appeal and I had to pay $500 out of pocket to cover the x-ray exam. I was also seeing Dr. Greenbaum and they switched me to a different dentist within the practice without telling me. They get three stars because the people are friendly and the dentists are quality dentists, but I'm peeved I had to pay $500 and see a dentist I wasn't expecting. [Update - contacted owner per their response, nothing changed, but they did note my issue and hope to improve]

Fantastic experience: Dr Bernstein's practice is superb! I've never had such great, tecnically skilled, sensitive and concerned dental care in all my 74 years. I've recently begun going to them as my dentist of 25 years retired. These folks are more than head above shoulders better in every way. A bit pricey, but your teeth health is worth it.

Negative experience: In my case the dental appliance for sleep apnea produced a bad case of TMJ. Beware!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Greenbaum did a fantastic job in adjusting a new crown from the lab that didn’t fit so well at first (I was likely a little off in how I held my bite when the impression was taken). He was very patient and made sure the fit was perfect after many iterations. Hopefully now good for 20 years.
