Positive experience: Dr. Lawhorne has been great over the last 4/5 years and he has always made me feel heard and comfortable. Unfortunately the front desk has been very difficult to schedule with, and one specific person is always very rude when it comes to scheduling or needing help. My husband and I are switching dental offices specifically because of the front office staff at this location. I am bummed to be giving up a good dentist, but it is not worth the fight anymore.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Drew Lawhorn is very personable and Helpful with suggestions for excellent teeth care. I recently had a couple of old crowns replaced and as unpleasant as that sounds, it went very very smoothly. Very happy with the service and the staff is also very kind.

Negative experience: I scheduled a dental cleaning several days in advance and arrived 10 minutes early. Check-in was smooth, and the dental assistant who took my X-rays was very friendly. She seemed new and struggled a little with the equipment, but she was kind, patient, and did her best. What surprised me was how long everything took before my actual cleaning. I had 22 X-rays taken, followed by about 10 minutes spent creating a 3D scan of my mouth. The technology was interesting, but both procedures were awkward and uncomfortable. By this point, about an hour had already passed before the dentist finally came in for my exam. The "exam" lasted only a couple of minutes and mostly consisted of repeatedly poking around every single spot along my gums to measure them. There wasn't much explanation of what she was doing or what the measurements meant. I was simply told I had no cavities, but I had some buildup—which was exactly why I had scheduled a cleaning. To my surprise, I was then told we'd need to schedule a cleaning for another day. However, I had specifically made an appointment for a cleaning and had taken time off work for it. Only after I asked id they would be doing any cleaning at all today did they say they could "set up for the cleaning" if I had time. Of course I had time—that was the entire reason I was there. The actual cleaning didn't begin until about an hour and 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. I also agreed to additional services, including the laser sanitation treatment, and ended up paying an extra $185 out of pocket because I wanted to leave knowing I'd done everything I could for my teeth. Unfortunately, the cleaning itself was one of the most uncomfortable medical experiences I've had. I expected some soreness and discomfort, especially since it had been years since my last professional cleaning, but this was far beyond what I expected. It felt incredibly rough. I could constantly feel the instruments slipping off my teeth and jabbing into my gums. The dentist barely explained what she was doing, seemed to rush through the entire cleaning, and was carrying on conversations with people walking by while actively working inside my mouth. The whole experience felt hurried, and I never felt like my comfort or care was a priority. I just kept trying to bear through it because I assumed it would be over soon. When the cleaning was finished, I immediately noticed my mouth felt full of blood and bits of stuff I couldn't explain just by feeling with my tongue. As I sat up, I felt what seemed like a large piece behind one of my front teeth. I reached in and removed what appeared to be a sizable blood clot. My mouth was full of blood, yet no rinse was offered or even suggested before I was sent on my way. I went into the restroom before checking out because I needed to wash the blood off my hands and see what was going on. My gums weren't just lightly bleeding—they were actively oozing blood around multiple teeth and throbbing. I left with my mouth tasting like blood instead of feeling clean. They asked me to schedule another cleaning in eight weeks before I left. I declined because, honestly, I just wanted to get out of there and go home. I've never had anxiety about going to the dentist before this visit. I went in expecting to leave with clean teeth and a fresh mouth. Instead, I left with a mouth full of blood, throbbing gums, and an experience that has genuinely made me not want to return to the dentist.

Fantastic experience: I am an absolute when it comes to dentists. I finally had to go due to broken tooth and an infection. They were so gentle and understanding. They were able to fully sedate me for extraction. The Dentist and Oral surgeon were kind, gentle and really put my anxiety in check. I am actually looking forward to going back for the rest of the work I need done. They listen and work with you when you can't afford the work. Working within my budget while never making me feel embarrassed! The Puyallup canyon rd location and the Bonney Lake location! Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Right off the bat, I could tell this was a great team. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and worked really well together. I care for individuals with special needs, so I came in with quite a few questions about billing, insurance, and how treatment plans would work since everyone’s coverage and needs are different. They were very transparent, took the time to explain everything, and helped me understand our options without ever making me feel rushed. One thing I really noticed was how well the team coordinated with each other. Everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing, and they were always thinking a few steps ahead. The assistants did a great job getting everything ready and starting what they could before the doctor came in, which let the doctor focus on the work that only he could do. It made the whole visit feel smooth and efficient. I was especially impressed with how they worked with one of my residents who communicates using ASL. Even though they don’t speak ASL, they adapted really well by using simple gestures and visual cues so he understood what they needed him to do. They also had a simple device ready to help keep his mouth open comfortably during the procedure, and everything went so smoothly. You could tell they were prepared and willing to adapt to each patient’s needs instead of expecting the patient to adapt to them. Overall, I left feeling really confident in this office. It’s not just that they’re good at what they do. You can tell they genuinely care, communicate well with each other, and go the extra mile to make patients feel comfortable. I would definitely recommend them.

Fantastic experience: Great team at Puyallup Gentle Dental (176th location) - called & brought me in early for a same day crown. Dr. Felix and Devin - Prepped, digitally scanned the molar & temped in under an hour. Normally no temp on a same day crown - but had a lunch date set up based upon the time set for my originally scheduled appointment & Devin made this happen. They even showed me the machine that mills my crown in action! Pic one is the machine just starting with a blank ceramic block loaded & the scanned crown prep data uploaded. Pic two is a close up of the crown (white block) being bathed in cooling fluid while being milled. Trial fit and cemented the same day crown in 15 minutes after my lunch date. Total time in the chair was just about 60 minutes. This is my second same day crown at the Puyallup Gentle Dental by Dr Felix and I could not recommend her team highly enough.

Fantastic experience: I don't write many reviews but for someone who has been terrified of the dentist all her life, I had a wonderful experience here. I was never embarrassed, shamed, in severe pain or anything that you would typically experience or expect at other dental practices if you have not been blessed with great teeth. I am extremely grateful to have found a dentist who I feel comfortable with and cares to make their patients comfortable and happy. Lawhorne and his Hygienist were both amazing. Looking forward to taking on this adventure here!

Negative experience: Went here to pull a tooth the hygienist didn’t know how to use the nitrous machine, but I still got charged for it even though it felt like nothing, they tried to get me to do a deep cleaning below the gums even though my dentist that retired said I never needed it done, my new dentist says I don’t need it done either, so they are ripping people off with things they don’t need done

Fantastic experience: Dr Lawhorne and his team are truly amazing. I came in after years of not going to the dentist, there was no judgement or pressure. Dr Lawhorne has made this a painless process, I will never go to a different dentist.

Negative experience: My visit was for a biopsy on my lip. Jonathan Volland was my oral surgeon. I am nervous around needles and scalpels. Jonathan seemed in a hurry. He didn’t seem to care that I was very nervous. I felt dizzy almost passing out while blood was squirting all over my face. During the surgery He was saying things like that was overkill and oh well. Not very reassuring. Wont be returning to this establishment.

Fantastic experience: My son has been diagnosed on the spectrum and for years its been hard to find a dental facility that will be patient and understanding with him. That is until I found this one. They are very good with him, in fact, my son is now very comfortable with his dentist and initiates discussions with his dentist. It’s a drive to get there but well worth it!

Fantastic experience: Excellent first visit! The front desk receptionist was very kind. She greeted me with a smile and already had my insurance information, so check- in was a breeze. The Hygienist was so nice. She talked me thru the numerous Xrays I needed before I was to see the Dentist. I was so impressed with all of the advanced equipment, and what usually takes at least 1 hour for my Xrays only seemed to be no more than 15 minutes. Thanks to the Hygienist and her expertise, I really felt like I was in good hands. By the way...I found the perfect pair of jeans, after I left . All due to your recommdations...thank you! Lastly I met the dentist, Dr. Lawhorne. He explained the results of my Xrays and made sure I understood his treatment plans for me. Usually, I only get to sit and talk with the dentist for about 5 minutes before their off to next patient. However with Dr Lawhorne the visit did not feel rushed. I really felt like an individual and not a number. Overall, I had a outstanding visit. The facility was clean with a welcoming vibe. I highly recommend!! Thank you.

Fantastic experience: Have been going here for over a decade, even when I moved out of the county and there’s a reason for that. Consistent, friendly service both up front and in the back. The assistants, even with normal turnover, are always easy to get along with and provide friendly and most importantly, top shelf service and care. I don’t get fluoride and have never felt pressured to receive care I didn’t want. I would recommend Gentle Dental on 176th to another who needs a dentist, wants a new dentist or who doesn’t like going to the dentist, like me.

I wanted to get my own teeth cleaned for a long time but could never find a place I felt comfortable with—until I had a toothache and needed an urgent appointment. I finally scheduled a visit for myself, and I’m so glad I did. The team made me feel confident and well taken care of from the start. After letting my teeth go for over 12 years, I’m genuinely impressed with the results. They’ve helped me get my smile back, and I couldn’t be happier with the care Gentle Dental has provided for me and my family.

Negative experience: I’ve been visiting Gentle Dental for the last 8 or so years. Last visit, my hygienist looked like she just rolled out of bed and started work. I thought - ok, everyone is allowed to have a bad day. Others working there were loud and unprofessional. The front desk staff have become less than friendly and largely unhelpful. The exam rooms are also beginning to look a bit old and dingy. Fast forward six months. My daughter had an appointment scheduled on a Saturday. Appointment was confirmed via text. We show up on time and they were closed. We called and left a message. Received a call back the following Monday. No apology. Just excuses and lies saying “we tried to call you a couple weeks ago to change your appointment”, which they never did. We’ll be taking our business elsewhere. I suggest others do the same!

Positive experience: I was very surprised how much work the assistant had completed on my son's caps on her own. I just always thought the head doctor would do the internal work when caps are being put on. The receptionist is really nice and very helpful.

Fantastic experience: After a couple of bad dental experiences in another state, I went nearly ten years without seeing a dentist. The longer I avoided it, the more nervous and embarrassed I felt about going back. I was convinced my teeth were going to be terrible and that I’d be judged for neglecting my dental health for so long. When I started having lower jaw pain, I finally pushed myself to make an appointment. Even the morning of, I seriously considered canceling — but I’m so glad I didn’t. From the moment I walked in, the dental staff and dental assistant were incredibly kind. Once I went back to my room the assistant talked me through every step while taking X-rays, which immediately helped calm my nerves. When the dentist came in, he introduced himself and the first thing he did was address my embarrassment and my concerns about the jaw pain, and I can’t explain how much I appreciated getting that anxiety out of the way right from the start. He went through all of my X-rays with me and explained everything gently and thoroughly. He created a clear plan to get my dental health back on track — and even got started that same day. He was so personable, and despite my anxiety being through the roof, he talked me through everything and made the room feel genuinely comfortable the entire visit. I never felt judged or pressured, just supported. I walked out feeling relieved, cared for, and with zero anxiety about my next appointment. That is 100% because of how comfortable he made the entire experience. I can’t recommend this office enough.

Negative experience: I entered the Fredrickson location to inquire about a possible crown. Three staff members at the front desk, one chowing down on lunch. Not Professional. Coming from my Dentist in Eatonville, you never see that type of customer service - not a good look. Once again, the closer one gets to more populated areas, the customer service deteriorates. Ill stick with my Professional Dentist and staff.

She explained everything they were going to do step by step and answered every question my daughter asked of her. When I stopped by the clinic on Saturday morning to make an appointment, they got me in right then and put in a temporary crown.

Negative experience: Had more work done, temporary crowns. After leaving I’m spitting stuff out on the sidewalk and the work feels like sandpaper in my mouth. No worries I fixed it myself and spit that leftover stuff on the sidewalk. Please clean up and polish better. Only partially diagnosed, had more issues than this office originally discovered so had referral to other office, further testing confirmed all the issues. Had to go back for a 3rd day to get the work done.

Fantastic experience: Dr Felix is Awesome, so was her assistant. Front desk broke down details regarding insurance and co-pays, I appreciate that. Getting a deep cleaning was scary for me, they were so understanding and helpful. The assistant even held my hand . What a wonderful staff. Fantastic experience: Staff and Dr Drew are all wonderful and very helpful. I’m a big chicken about the dentist and had let my teeth get pretty bad. I had avoided dentists because of embarrassment. Dr Drew has been compassionate and understanding while getting me back on track with a dental work plan to have my teeth back in great shape soon.

Negative experience: Called in to get a copy of my x-Ray sent to my email and was told by the person who answered the phone they had just clocked out for the day and that it could be sent tomorrow. Very unprofessional. Haven’t been back here since my initial new patient exam. Customer service is lacking.

Positive experience: I preface this review with Dr. Felix is amazing! She is kind, gentle, and she listens. As much as I would like to say that the rest of the staff are the same.... I can't. The front desk staff come off as polite and professional, however, they seem disorganized and lack communication. I have gone to this office a total of 3 times. I have been on time for all three. I was NEVER brought into my appointment on time. By the time I made it into "the chair" it has been at least 20 mins past my appointed time. I get having delays and such...front desk you could simply inform your patient that there is a delay. Lack of communication pisses patients off, especially those of us that are taking time off work. Next, the dental technicians are nice, the one that did my x-rays was learning I think, and this is fine. x-rays almost always hurt or are uncomfortable. The 2nd visit I had was a for a filling, this visit was fine. The 3rd visit will be my last, my visit (also almost 30 min behind schedule and no communication from the staff) was for a cleaning. The technician, Nora (I think), seemed nice, she helped me understand a better way to floss, this said, not only did she trash my mouth with the flossing, but she also left stands of floss stuck in between my teeth. I couldn't chew for the rest of the day. and eating dinner was just as painful. I did a warm salt rinse when I got home, and everything felt better the following day. As much as I would like to believe that GENTLE Dental is gentle--most of them aren't. I will be looking for a new dentist. Sorry Dr. Felix, but I have had enough dental trauma for one lifetime, and I don't need anymore.

Negative experience: Heed my Warning! Stay away from Gentle Dental! What I thought would be a simple, routine check-up and cleaning was anything but. I'll voice my concerns with the front desk staff in a min. Let's start with the exam itself. The x-rays took about 20 min, using a hard, bulky, reusable bit with a plastic sleeve. Every other dentist I've ever gone to uses the small, flexible, disposable bite film things, which take about 5 min tops. Not here. The bite thing was heavy, large, and uncomfortable. The number of x-rays themself seemed very excessive. I'm talking 25+ images (did they x-ray each tooth individually?!) So, yeah, I guess I'm that much closer to brain cancer after this visit. super. That was just the x-rays. There are then 20 min of this 3D tooth scanner, which is a large reusable wand about the size of a TV remote sliding along your teeth and gums to take more images. Were the massive amount of x-rays not sufficient?! I had no idea this 3D scan was even part of the appt. This device, with no plastic cover which begs me to wonder how clean it even was, was also bulky and while not outright painful, it was highly uncomfortable. As this goes on a while, I finally ask if it's possible to just do the cleaning without this 3D scan. I then find out, they don't even do a cleaning on the first visit. This is all just an exam to see what type of cleaning I'll need. Again, every other dentist I've gone to has accomplished x-rays and cleaning in one short, relatively painless visit. Nope, not here! I did finally have a few min with the dentist, who examined my teeth and determined no cavities, just a regular cleaning for my next visit is all that would be needed. That's great. except I refuse to go back to this place, ever! Protect your brain and your nerves and stay far away! I wish I had! and for the front office, just know they will ask for your insurance information at the time of visit, even though you specifically called the day prior and provided them the information over the phone. It won't be visible in their system, and they'll act like you never called. Definite communication breakdown, as I had no idea the cleaning would require a whole different appt. until I was nearly done with this hour long ordeal. Take your insurance and yourself someplace better!!!!! This visit cost me $35 and the cleaning would cost me $30 more. I'm pretty sure I can find places that do both cleaning and exam in one easy appt for about that price, even without insurance! Anyway, I hope this saves someone's time and helps prevent discomfort and possibly brain cancer!

Fantastic experience: Update for 2/3/2025. I had a periodontal surgical procedure done with Dr Munimadugu. . This is an example of the additional consults and services available at this location. She is the best; from explaining the procedure, updates during the procedure and most importantly, monitoring pain control, all outstanding! The technician assisting her was also extremely professional and proficient . For me, I have a so much confidence for maintaining my dental health with this team. Highflying recommend.
