Fantastic experience: We have always been so happy with Dr. McDonald! He's thorough with me as a parent and great with me kids. He has been helpful ans reassuring with a scary tooth injury and great with check ups to ease our concerns.

Fantastic experience: My child looks forward to his dentist visits. He asks why he has to wait so long in between visits. Lol they are very accommodating and speak to him in a gentle manner. He gets to watch tv while he gets a cleaning. He loves getting a goodie bag and token for the prize machine at the end of every visit. This is a great place to establish a baseline about how dentist visits should go. My child loves coming to the dentist because they make the experience easy and enjoyable for a kid. Highly recommend.

Their network for referred specialists (Maxillofacial and Ortho) has been amazing too.

They truly take the time to get to know their clientele. I am so grateful to all of the Doctors, Hygienists and team workers for helping our family. Fantastic experience: The hygienist and doctor are always wonderful and patient with my little guy. This visit he had some apprehension and they explained how they were going to clean, X-ray and examine his teeth. They take the time to answer my questions and help me figure out how to care for his oral health because it’s not always easy! They are also very responsive when you are needing to make an appointment or reschedule. My son says “I do like my dentist. It feels like they tickle your teeth a little bit.”

Negative experience: We've been with them for around 2 years. There were 2 times they reschedule us a day before the appointment. Which is super inconvenient since I basically take a day off work for nothing. I know they have 48hrs policy for cancelling, I forgot to call on time but still call 44hrs before the appointment which is plenty of time for them to fill the spot. They say to RESCHEDULE I must pay $60. Which I understand the policy. However, the last two times they reschedule us last minute, they didn't even say sorry. I honestly think you should revise your policy. You can cancel on clients but when clients need reschedule you want $60. GREEDY! Some staffs are nice, some carry ugly attitude.

Fantastic experience: We have been going to Dr. MacDonald and his team since our daughter was 3 years old. They are the most friendly and energized team making little ones feel so comfortable. The kindness and genuine care is admirable. The doctor sets the tone. He is the nicest and kindest dentist. His manner with kids is so calming. Way to go to the entire team.

Dr McDonald is professional, respectful and easy to talk to. He always listen to my concerns regarding my child’s needs. I appreciate that he is patient. I highly recommend him. Another plus is that we live just blocks away from his office, so it’s nice to have a good dentist in the neighborhood.

She patiently accommodated my 4 year old’s request for a particular show and explained each step of the cleaning and exam. Fantastic experience: Dr. McDonald performed my child's frenectomy when she was around 6 months and we have continued to see him for the past 2 years. He came highly recommended from an LC and has continuously lived up to his reputation. He saved my daughter and I on our breastfeeding journey. After her oral ties were released she jumped from under 30th percentile for weight to the 80th in a few months, and I was finally out of pain from her inability to latch. We go regularly for checkups now and he is knowledgeable about root cause of dental issues and has a plethora of advice relating to diet and remineralizing for healthy teeth. It's nice to have a dentist provide other options other than just pushing fluoride treatments. His staff is also professional, gentle, and patient.

They took great care of my son and his recovery was very easy. Now he gets his teeth checked and the staff are so great with kids! Balloon animals, tv’s to provide some distraction. We love AKPD!

Fantastic experience: Update: We continue to see Dr. McDonald and continue to receive excellent dental care here. I appreciate whatever changes have been made to accommodate the shift we have experienced in scheduling. We are now able to have appts. after school and receptionist works with us to find times that don’t impede school as best they can. Thank you. Dr. McDonald is a wonderful dentist and has a great team of hygienists and assistants. I have taken my children to him since they were very little and one is in college now. The care is top notch. My only beef is a discriminatory office management policy in the way they schedule patients with state dental insurance. Staff will not allow me to schedule appointments six months in advance even though our coverage is annually renewed. We are stuck scheduling 4-6 weeks from the time we need an appointment. This invariably leaves me without appointments during school breaks, meaning I have to take time off work from teaching and pull kids out of school. What bothers me the most, is that while our family makes it work, I know most patients on state insurance cannot afford to take time off, and often their kids cannot afford to miss school. This is a backwards policy that offends me to no end. And, I don’t appreciate the way that office staff meet me about this issue when I point out that the policy makes no sense if we are annually renewed versus my private coverage that is month to month! It’s just there to make state covered families take the leftovers, as usual. Hope Dr. McDonald changes this management and provides socioeconomic diversity training to his office help.

Fantastic experience: The facility and staff were fantastic. Everything was really clean And sanitary. Our dental assistant’s were fantastic as well. Dr. McDonald was kind, efficient and quick. I appreciate that they can see my twins at the same time as well, makes life a lot easier.

Fantastic experience: We have only had one appointment, but so far so good. The staff were all super calm and friendly. Our previous office was very different than that. When we left, my 9 year old daughter said “I like how they just said what things were and didn’t make up names for things. I’m not 3. Then again, they should probably just tell a 3 year old what it is too.” She had a bad experience with a previous dentist and was super nervous going in. She felt respected and not patronized, loved that she had a choice of what to watch, and said the chairs were more comfortable than the previous dentist’s. I am so incredibly relieved that she had a good experience. Hopefully this means she will have much less anxiety next time she needs a cleaning. Edit: Second appointment went great too! She is happy and I’m relieved!

Fantastic experience: I have been bringing my kids here for the last 10 years. It’s the only dentist they know. They have never been scared of going to the dentist and I think that speaks volumes about this place. They actually are excited to come here. Granted we make sure to keep up with their dental health, so they are not having major work done all the time. But even the few times we have, I don’t get complaints. The tokens for no cavities and the animal balloons are definitely a plus! I will take my kids here for as long as possible.

Fantastic experience: 10/10 recommend. This is our third dentist for my two young kids and they are incredible. Especially if your kids have some fears about the dentist. They take so much care and go above and beyond the norm to make sure that you feel that your child is well taken care of. My 5 year old just had dental surgery at the Renton location and Dr McDonald really took a lot of care to make sure he felt comfortable. He also called my cell phone to check on my son at the end of the day when we got home. We also had a regular visit at the west Seattle location and he had a great time. Keep in mind, this was a child that spent the last several years at other dentists barely opening his mouth. You can’t go wrong!!!

Fantastic experience: We have been going to a Kids Place Dentistry for 15 years. All of our kids go here and always look forward to seeing their dentist. Dr. McDonald and all of the staff are so lovely and have a way of knowing how to make the kids comfortable as well as give them all of the positive reinforcement that makes them wild about brushing and flossing at home. He is preventative in his approach - making recommendations about diet, toothpastes, and procedures looking down the road for kids based on their checkups. He made some recommendations which we were not sure about years ago to improve the look of our daughter's smile - she had spots on her teeth. He said let's keep an eye and talk about it if it seems right for you in the future. For the past year we noticed she hid her smile, and I asked her why. She told us she didn't like how her teeth looked so we knew it was time to schedule the icon procedure Dr. McDonald had recommended prior. The results were amazing, and she is smiling with confidence. Highly recommend this practice as your children's dentist!

Fantastic experience: We always have a great experience at A Kids Place Dentistry in Renton! We’ve been bringing my son here since he was a newborn and needed a lip procedure. They are great with toddlers! My son is pretty hesitant about doctors but he loves all the toddler friendly extras here including watching his favorite shows during the cleaning, balloon animals, and tokens for the toy machine at the end. The staff are always friendly! We drive pretty far to bring my son here but the drive is definitely worth it for a smooth and easy trip to the dentist twice a year! Oh and they give you lots of reminder texts which is greatly appreciated to avoid a missed appointment fee. We highly recommend this dentist!

Fantastic experience: Our family has gone to A Kids Place since our kids were little. From the time we started going to now, so many of the people working there are the same. That always tells you something about the work atmosphere! The staff is friendly and efficient. They really pay attention to the needs of the patient by listening to their concerns. When the kids were younger, the distractions (movie) and rewards (balloon animals), were a huge deal. It was a safe, consistent routine and it helped build trust. They have always encouraged our kids in their home dental hygiene. None of our kids have ever had a cavity and they always make that a big deal for them. Dr. McDonald is so great with our kids, he always talks sports and school and life. He is gentle and a very thorough, comprehensive communicator. When our oldest “outgrew” kids dentistry he was sad, Dr. McDonald was the only dentist he’d ever known. It’s a very friendly, family-like office. I highly recommend Dr. McDonald and A Kid’s Place dentistry.

Fantastic experience: We have Dr Huynh to be our kids’ dentist recently and she is amazing! Kids and us love her as she is professional, dedicated and very kid-friendly oriented to explain and answer our questions thoroughly. We also had Dr McDonald to do a surgery for our kid which took around 3 hours as it required anesthesia service with another partner (the anesthesiologist is really amazing too that made us feel safe during the process). Highly recommend for all staff and service here!!

Fantastic experience: My kids have been attending the Renton, WA location since they were babies and now they are teens/young adults. Dr. McDonald and his staff have taken great care of my kids teeth and has always made us feel comfortable. I love the fact that their office gives parents options of different treatment methods during teeth extractions or any dental procedure instead of making me feel like putting my kids under anesthesia was the only option. My kids trust Dr. McDonald and are always excited for their appointments. The office is clean, staff are nice and knowledgeable about dental care. We moved almost 45 minutes away but we refuse to change to a different dentist.

Negative experience: This may be a wonderful dental office, but I'll never know since their front desk is completely uncooperative about answering basic questions about pricing for cash-pay patients. Asking for simple transparency about even the basic cost of a simple filling, or the basic cost of administering nitrous, was met with hostility and insults about me shopping for the "cheapest dentist" (which I wasn't), and tells me that this is not going to be an ethical business to work with. Instead, I found a dental office that isn't afraid to be upfront about their pricing, even though I know I can't hold them to anything until they see my child and a treatment plan is determined. I explained to AKP staff that I knew nothing they tell me on the phone is concrete until a treatment plan is created, but despite my very reasonable questions, I continued to be spoken to as if I was Walmart shopping for dental services. At least with the new dentist I found, I feel confident that they aren't going to "make up" prices as they go along, based on whatever they think they can get away with. These medical practitioners who refuse to lift the veil of secrecy around medical service pricing are disgusting. It's such a huge problem in this country, and I shouldn't have to pay $125 for a consultation to have you tell me that a basic filling is charged at either $150 or $800, or that nitrous is $50 or $500. Your costs should be your costs, per treatment line item, PERIOD. This truly isn't complicated if you're operating ethically. Clearly, this practice isn't.

Fantastic experience: What a scary ordeal to put your child under general anesthesia for the first time and also for them to have to have unexpected dental work.
