Irvine Oral Surgery

Negative experience: The oral surgeon is nice, but the front office is the reason for -4 stars. This office refuses to do the necessary insurance paperwork for you to get your oral surgery. If your plan requires any action with your medical insurance before your dental insurance covers the procedure, the office is supposed to start a claim with the medical insurance company. This office refuses to do so and puts it all on the patient, saying that they "cannot start a claim because they're not contracted with medical providers". The thing is, you don't need to be contracted with a medical provider in order to get a medical denial letter. The office staff is just refusing to do due diligence on their end.

Negative experience: The doctor is very nice and probably good at his job. But the service staff there has got to be some of the most rude and incompetent people I have ever encountered. Made me feel like I was a hassle anytime I called. Denied telling me things they told me (I am young and not forgetful). Billing statements make no sense and numbers dont even add correctly. Dont send CT scans when they say they will. Charge me twice for things when I asked for a refund? Yes its that bad. I am actual in shock and never leave reviews but its a baffling how rude they are on top of all this. I asked them for advice for what treatment I should do and their response is "you need to decide" and laughed at me. What kind of doctor office does that? Doctor, please address your staff.. I will not be back there nor would I recommend this place to anyone

Fantastic experience: Had 3 wisdom teeth removed (lower bilateral + upper right) by Dr. Nguyen and couldn't be happier with the experience. The procedure itself was smooth and efficient I was in and out without any issues. The team walked me through the post-op protocol clearly, and recovery has gone exactly as expected. No complications, no surprises. The office is professional, the staff is attentive, and the aftercare instructions were thorough. Would highly recommend for anyone anxious about oral surgery they make the whole process straightforward and stress-free.

Fantastic experience: I had my teeth extracted by Dr. Jeffery Nguyen, and the whole experience was excellent. The extraction process was very smooth, and Dr. Nguyen was extremely professional. All four wisdom teeth were removed in about 30 minutes. The overall recovery after the wisdom teeth removal was very smooth as well — I experienced minimal pain and discomfort, with almost no swelling. The office called afterward to check on my recovery. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Hsu is personable and professional. What I had done was very difficult, but I was out in less than an hour. I can assure you that with Dr. Hsu, you are in good hands. (Btw, Dr. Hsu was recommended to me by another patient who raved about him and his work! I drove down from NorCal just to have Dr. Hsu work on my teeth.)

Fantastic experience: These guys are insanely professional. They know what they’re doing. It was nerve racking to get an extraction and my first implant the same day but they did it so seamlessly and easy. On my part I barely felt the shots, never had particles of anything in my throat or liquids where I had to feel like I needed to swallow, and sewed me up all in like 40 min, they were super fast which was the best, I can’t say enough good things.

Fantastic experience: I went for an extraction and 3 bone grafts. All of the staff, from the front office to the surgical team, were very friendly and helpful every step of the way. Dr. Hsu administered the shots in a nearly painless fashion, and within about 30 minutes the entire procedure was done. I had minimal bleeding post procedure and am doing fine.

Fantastic experience: Everything worked out great. Numbing shot was not pleasant but after that never felt anything. It was great that I was not numb for hours. The entire procedure took less than an hour, and Dr. Nguyen, along with the entire team, demonstrated incredible professionalism and skill. Everything went smoothly, just as it did when Dr. Hsu placed my father’s dental implant years ago—another seamless, uneventful procedure. I truly appreciate the consistency in care we’ve received here. With another teenager preparing to have their wisdom teeth removed soon, I’m confident they’ll be in excellent hands as well. It’s definitely a good idea to take care of these things before college, especially while the roots are still developing, as it seems to promote a quicker recovery.

The office sent me all the forms on an app that was super easy to fill out and submit. Dr. Hsu saw me right at the appointment schedule. The staff was friendly, helpful, professional and efficient. Fantastic experience: Dr. Hsu was great! My tooth was out quickly and I wasn't in much discomfort afterward. More importantly everyone was very helpful and kind. Thank you!

Negative experience: The staff is incredibly unfriendly, and their policy of forfeiting the deposit is unreasonable. Despite claiming to send a confirmation text, we never received it, even after requesting the front desk to try again. If you miss or can't make an appointment, regardless of the reason, you lose the $200 deposit. When we tried to reschedule due to being on an international trip, we were told we'd need to pay another $200 deposit. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for a friendly front desk experience. Be cautious of hidden fees as well.

Negative experience: If the front desk insists on completing the procedure upfront and paying in full, don't trust that they'll find a way to reimburse you. It's shocking that despite the high rate of satisfaction, no one has complained about the poor service at the front desk. While the doctor may be professional, the same can't be said for the front desk service. It is a pain!

Fantastic experience: I experienced successful tooth extractions preceding implant procedures. The surgeon and staff are professional and kept me well informed about post-op care.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough positive things about my experience here. I had to get an erupted wisdom tooth removed. During my consultation, Dr. Hsu decided I should do a coronectomy instead to lessen my complications. I opted for IV Anesthesia and I was lights out in minutes. From the moment I walked in the door to when I left was 35 minutes. I’m 6 hrs from surgery and still virtually pain free. If I ever need an oral surgeon again, they will be the first ones I call.

Fantastic experience: Tooth be told, they love their patients. I had my lower wisdom teeth removed yesterday by Dr. Nguyen. The experience was pleasant (I was under anesthesia). I got to the office and made my copayment, then they had my driver sign me in. They took me back to the OR and set me up with oxygen. The staff were great (two ladies, but didn't get their name's) and made me feel at ease and comfortable. They even offered me a blanket incase I was cold. Minutes later Dr. Nguyen came in and I was put to sleep. I woke up in about 30 minutes or so and my driver had already picked up my medication at the pharmacy on the first floor. On the day of my consultation I had a panoramic X-ray and went over pricing with the coordinator. Overall the experience was great.

Negative experience: Way under numbed for the procedure. Didn't recognize that I was in severe pain when second instrument was used. Choked trying to breathe. Everything was pushed back. Saliva and blood build up was causing me to choke and cough. All the while told to calm down. No it was not a pleasant experience.

Negative experience: I had a dental implant with Daniel Hsu in 2017. In September 2022, my dental implant tooth became mobile. My general dentist (Dr Raymer) told me to go back to Dr Hsu to further examine as he suspected the implant had failed At Dr Hsu office, he examined my tooth as well as looking at the image on the screen hanging on the right wall. He asked if I had any pains. I said no. Then he used both his hand to shake my implant tooth. I was panic and thought he was trying to remove the implant for further examination. But then he stopped and said he saw nothing wrong but suspected that the implant had failed. He walked away with no further explanation why it had failed. I had to pay for the new procedure As a result, I went to see Dr Crisping Chang, a general dentist whose wife is a friend of me. After a quick exam and asked if I experienced any pains, he said that the mobile dental implant was caused by loosen screw. He then drilled a hole and tighten the implant screw. The implant was right away stable. When asked why he knew the cause, he said the failed implant would cause pains. Since I got no pains, it must have been the loose screw. I was surprised that Dr Hsu did not know that simple fact despite being an implant specialist. Or perhaps he did know but wanted me to redo the whole implant for financial purpose. Either way, the story shows how uncaring and lack of knowledge he was. Until now, I am still horrified when recalled how violent he shook my mobile implant. What was the purpose of his actions other than breaking the implant stud. Do a thorough research before you come to this office. Find out how many years the implant will be guaranteed. And if you run into the same problems as mine, see another dentist before you pay Dr Hsu to redo the implant.
