The staff is more than willing to help with any insurance/FSA issues. My grown sons have recently aged out of their pediatric dental practice and the staff at Sierra Smiles has been very patient with two young men learning to navigate their own schedules and appointments. I cannot say enough about this practice. They are my favorite!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to this dentist for about 2 years and have had nothing but good experiences. Everyone in the front and back has been nothing but kind anytime I’ve had to come in. I’ve previously had a really bad experience at a dentist that causes a lot of anxiety anytime I need dental work done but Dr.McShosh and whoever his dental assistant may be that day helps lesson that anxiety. They’re very thoughtful about walking you through the whole process, making sure you’re extremely comfortable, and reassuring if you have any questions. I just had my first filling here since I had my previous bad experience elsewhere and it was a night and day difference to say the least. My fiancé recently got his wisdom teeth removed here as well and also had an amazing experience. The best dental office in Reno by far!

Fantastic experience: As a visitor from out of town, I needed emergency dental treatment, so I called Sierra Smiles, out of the phone listings. It was so amazing the friendly support I received on the phone from Becky. An appointment was given right away! Dr. McShosh atended to my need. Cannot say enough as to his friendliness and professional treatment. Resolved the issue right away! And last but not least, I need to mention his dental assistance, Angie Elise. She was so kind and also very professional! Definitely recommend this Dental practice to anyone as I have done to my family members in Reno!

Fantastic experience: Front office staff was very helpful when i mentioned that my insurance only covered a certain type of filling. Also Dr Dean was very nice, thorough and did a great job explaining and making sure i was welcomed into the office. Clean, quiet, and extremely comfortable. Super friendly across the board.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. They quoted me one price for services, I made an appointment and when I showed up to get the work done, they charged me a significantly higher price. They said it was because my appt was more than 30 days out from the quote, but that was the appt they gave me at the time of the quote. Not only that, the hygienist was very unpleasant and super rough, pretty well brutalizing my mouth for the rest of the week. Another doctor at one time while working on my wife, slipped his drill slicing her tongue and webbing open. No compensation or discount offered. Seems like the trend here is to massacre patients as if it’s normal and then charge beyond the quoted rate. I’d avoid this place unless you hate yourself.

Positive experience: I give only three stars to Sierra smiles for my first appointment as a new patient because I was not informed of an extra charge ahead of time; therefore I felt like I was scammed! When I was at checkout, the receptionist informed me that for today’s visit I owe $58 for the oral facial photo that I wasn’t aware of. Apparently, this oral facial photo is a requirement for new patients, yet I was not informed whatsoever when I set up the appointment in January. Otherwise I would have remembered that there is an extra charge of $58 as this is outside of what my insurance would cover. If this is a required service for new patients, the dental office should inform new patients in writing of such charge instead letting me being caught off guard. I really didn’t have a choice but pay for the service. Then the receptionist informed me that there’s a 3% service fee on paying by credit or debit cards! Well, this wasn’t communicated to me in advance either until it was time to pay; otherwise I’d have brought cash or a check. As a prominent dental practice in Reno, the credit card service fee should not be passed onto patients as that’s the cost of doing business! Even though the visit with Dr McShosh and dental hygienist Katie was great, seems like I got off on the wrong foot with billing and am not sure if I’d stay with the practice.

Fantastic experience: I think I’ve been going here now for 3 years and they’ve been AMAZING all around. I really enjoy the people and they provide fantastic services. I had a last minute emergency today and they got me in day of, checked it out, came up with a treatment plan, and then executed said plan all in the span of an hour. They were friendly, personable and professional. Love it here!

Fantastic experience: Marissal and Amber always make me feel welcome along with Angela. They make going to the dentist not stressing which is good.

Positive experience: The appt went fast which was nice like 20-30mins but maybe a little too fast as I came home to see the ink and red stuff still on several of my teeth including ones that werwnt worked on. For as expensive as it is, or heck just for customer service, you would think cleaning the ink off of the teeth would be included. My original quote went up because "their prices went up." In my original appt, I was told he may be able to do only 2 of the 3 three fillings because they were so close but of course that didn't happen and if you don't pay by check you pay an extra $100. So to sum it up. I was happy to get out of there quick but with the way my mouth looked when I got home, I wonder about the quality of the job done. I am also feeling some of the leftover resin or whatever they used on my teeth that didn't get scraped off and I spit out a piece of floss when I got home.

Fantastic experience: Amber cleaned my teeth today. She is so gentle but thorough. She explains what she is doing and is very helpful in educating me on how to take care of my teeth and gums. Dr. Archer is always so nice and helps to ease my anxiety about going to the dentist.

Negative experience: Pretty frustrating to be honest. I've had now three evaluations and am now being directed back to the endodontist I came from for yet another evaluation. I've spent over 500 dollars now and now a single thing has been done about any of the work needed. Also had a plan presented to and was told if I have cash or a check and pay in full today I can save 5% but If I use my debit card I will be charged 3%. Who gos to the dentist with a 5k in their pocket or uses a checkbook anymore? Seemed a little scammish to me. Overall the people that work there all seem very pleasant and professional but the business practices when it comes to the finaciak side of things needs some work. So far I've felt like I'm getting the run around. Willing to do what needs to be done and don't have a problem paying for it as I have gotten myself into this mess but at the same time this has dragged out since December now and not a single thing has been done other then xrays and photos and multiple evaluation.

Fantastic experience: So I already have always loved going to the dentist, but coming here has made me enjoy it so much more. Always friendly service from everyone. These guys have really helped get my teeth and gums healthy at a fair price. *Update I decided with my dentist to use SureSmile trays to help align my teeth and reduce crowding. 6 months after completing the set I am quite pleased with the results. Flossing is so much easier and I've found my dental hygiene to be easier to maintain. *Update Everyone from reception, to the hygienists, to checkout is always vedy welcoming, friendly, and appreciative. This is a well run business and I'm always quite satisfied with my care. *Update Still very happy with my choice to continue to maintain my care here, and still recommend as well.

Positive experience: I’ve been getting all my dental care here for well over 10 years, but seems they’ve stopped taking their home states insurance. When I called to ask what’s next it just seemed they were eager to give the release papers for my files. Then, I asked how much the out of pocket fee was for a cleaning. Come to find out it’s $187! What a joke! Then you gotta hope you’re getting a decent hygienist that won’t be too rough or too light and leave you feeling sore or like you just brushed your teeth yourself. Very disappointing they didn’t sign the contract to cover Nevada state employees anymore…

Fantastic experience: Finding a good dentist is like finding gold. And this is what I have discovered at Sierra Smiles. Here is why this place is absolutely my favorite: 1) A warm welcome at the front desk -- every time, no matter what! 2) Appointments on time -- no matter what. I have been a patient for five years, and my wait times are kept to a minimum. 3) Neck pillows and paraffin hand wax offered at every visit -- to keep patients comfortable. 4) Large-screen TVs (with headsets) in every room -- helpful to drowning out those unpleasant dentistry noises! 5) A patient thank-you event once a year with giveaways and a bounce house (It rained last year and my kids loved being in a bounce house in the rain!) and 6) Last, but not least, exceptional dental care. In fact, I started taking my kids here after Sierra Smiles provided me with a lower cost estimate to fill cavities than their pediatric dentist did -- and this was using a new technique for surface cavities. You will love Summer and John, and all their dental staff, I promise.

In my entire life, I've never left a dental office without crying until yesterday. Every person in the office is kind and considerate as well as welcoming. I will never go to another dentist in my life. I would travel hours to come back here. When they say overall health care, they mean it. Dr Archer and her assistant, Angolece, are absolutely fabulous. If I could give 100 stars, I would.

Fantastic experience: I have the best hygienist! I’ve been going to Sierra smiles for over 15 years. They are state of the art and are always about putting client needs first. I recommend them to my colleagues and friends forever and always.

Negative experience: This place has great service, but it is a money making racket. Great place to go if insured but not if you’re uninsured. They charge uninsured patients more than double what they charge to insurance companies. That’s right, they rip off uninsured patients for an amount more than double what insurance values the service at. Then they try to sell anyone who has ever felt a bit tired a ten thousand dollar (unproven, uninsurable) solution to their problems. They do a good job with dental services and patient care, but I left feeling unsure whether I do need a small cavity filled or if they just wanted to be able to charge me $400 for a quick procedure.
