Fantastic experience: I got a filling yesterday from Monica, the dental assistant, and Dr. Merchant. They lived up to their name and provided gentle, quality care. Dr. Merchant took his time and did a good job (I’ve been to a lot of dentists before). He also did not push me to any unnecessary treatments, which is unfortunately a pretty common practice in San Diego (I’ve noticed since I moved here). The front office communication/coordination could be better, but I can see they are trying to improve.

Positive experience: I was quite impressed with the dentist and office staff, however I am concerned that they recommended a deeper cleaning that I do not believe was warranted. It was not covered by my insurance and I am not comfortable pursuing any unnecessary surgeries.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient at Gentle Dental De Lago for many years. I had my first oral surgical experience yesterday with Periodontist, Dr. Kallous. He and his assistant worked incredibly well together, doing the surgery like a well orchestrated dance. All the while putting my anxiety at ease. Negative experience: Scam artists. I have had great service with 3 other Gentle Dental offices. Del Lago in Escondido was horrible. Most of the staff were helpful but they had an office manager who tried to say the oral surgeon would not do an extraction without me paying $600+ for a bone graft that I DIDN'T need. She tried to say it was required but my X-ray clearly showed it was not. Outright liars. Beware. Worth the drive to another Gentle Dental office.

Negative experience: Three words to describe this dental practice: inept, incompetent, and a disappointment. I’ve been a gentle dental patient since the day I was born, and to say that their service has gone down the drain would be an understatement. You come in the door and you are not immediately greeted. So attentiveness is not on their priority list. You get taken back to the exam room you sit and wait for an absurd amount of time for the doctor or hygienist to be available and make matters worse they consistently are making costly mistakes when it comes to dealing with insurance companies and Medi-Cal insurance policy carriers. They will constantly send you letters in the mail saying that you’ll be reported to collections if they don’t collect payment even though your insurance covers the entire service. The level of empathy or lack there of shown by this company should make them feel embarrassed and worse ashamed to be a dental practice. Forever lost me as a patient and customer.

Negative experience: I recently visited Gentle Dental as a new patient to the area. Unfortunately, the experience has prompted me to return to my previous dentist, despite the 30-minute commute. The visit was characterized by a persistent feeling of being pressured for unnecessary services, starting with the initial interaction: Front Desk: The receptionist was not particularly welcoming and demonstrated a lack of hygiene by repeatedly coughing into her rolled-up sweater while handling my ID and insurance cards. Hygienist Examination & Treatment Recommendation: After the initial X-rays, the hygienist performed an examination and immediately diagnosed me with periodontitis, recommending an antibiotic shot at a cost of $154. As I adhere to a rigorous six-month cleaning schedule and have never received this diagnosis, I politely declined. Dentist's Role: The dentist performed her own examination, noting only pre-existing, minor issues (teeth clenching). When I inquired about the hygienist's periodontitis diagnosis, the dentist's response was vague, suggesting the hygienist "wouldn’t have recommended it if there wasn’t a reason," which felt dismissive given her own differing findings. Assistant's Comment: During the dentist's examination, the assistant made an inappropriate comment, saying he hoped they would "find something so he can get paid," which he followed with a laugh. While he claimed to be kidding, the comment was highly unprofessional and added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Further Pressure: While an assistant was flossing my teeth, an administrative staff member entered the room to again push the antibiotic shot, as well as a preventative service for an additional $20, both of which I declined. Cleaning: The visit concluded with the original hygienist performing the cleaning, during which she continued to discuss periodontitis and provided a dedicated brochure upon my exit. At 30 years old, I have never left a dental office feeling as if I've been subjected to high-pressure sales tactics. The disconnect between the hygienist's aggressive diagnosis and the dentist's more benign findings is concerning. I will not be returning to Gentle Dental and strongly suggest you review your patient consultation and billing practices.

They told me they couldn't do normal root canals that any other dentist would be able to do, said they'd refer me to a specialist, but after 5 calls telling them I never got a referral or any email from them, I still got nothing. I was charged for a service that was NEVER done it was $740 in February we are now almost in July and I have been calling and have been told by Jackie that she talked to corporate several times and I should be expecting my money back then called again and said they had my address wrong and I would be receiving a check. Do not go here everytime I go they make me feel like my teeth are so bad and I need this and that! It’s just there way to try to scam you.

Fantastic experience: When I first went here I was pretty nervous. I was missing a tooth from an accident and I had to get my teeth straightened. Or else the implant might have some complications. I was greeted by Ms. Marilyn, she was really kind and patient. I wasn’t feeling confident or comfortable about getting my teeth straightened. She was reassuring me And was hyping me up. I felt comfortable with her and Dr. Naeim was also explaining everything to me so I can better understand stand. Now today I went back and was greeted by Ms. Marilyn and Mr Jeff. Both were kind and we had a nice conversation. Talking back my next set and how the progress was going well. Overall I feel every comfortable and safe while being there and I do like the atmosphere of the pace.

Negative experience: Review for Gentle Dental Del Lago — Escondido, CA My experience at Gentle Dental Del Lago has been absolutely unacceptable — not just because of a major billing issue, but because of the way I was treated as a patient by office manager Larissa Clark and Dr. Namita Dutta. On March 25, I was charged $625 for a procedure that should have cost no more than $70 under my DeltaCare USA HMO plan. I was billed for an “unspecified procedure” (code D2999) without explanation, consent, or documentation — which is a violation of insurance and dental guidelines. For months, I tried to get a breakdown of this charge, and Larissa Clark refused to provide it, despite multiple calls and visits. Then, after seeing a new dentist, I was told I had a hole in the filling that Dr. Dutta had supposedly completed — meaning it either wasn’t done properly or wasn’t done at all. When I returned to ask about this, Dr. Dutta yelled at me for even questioning her work, instead of handling the concern professionally. Even worse, Larissa Clark made no effort to acknowledge the issue with the failed filling or help resolve it. Instead, she: • Laughed at me • Called me “young” in a condescending, dismissive way • Hung up on me multiple times • Refused to give me her manager’s contact • Made me feel completely disrespected and unheard At this point, I have filed a grievance with Delta Dental , a formal complaint with the California Dental Board, and submitted a BBB complaint. No patient should be treated like this — dismissed, overcharged, and mocked for asking fair questions. If you’re thinking of trusting this office with your dental care, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

Negative experience: They doubled the price of my treatment plan when I arrived to my appointment. When I asked for my deposit back they said they would call & let me know. They couldn’t return it because I paid in cash & had to go through corporate. When I called to follow up they said it would take 4 weeks for a refund even though I live about 10 minutes away. Disappointed because the oral surgeon on my previous visit was very good.

Negative experience: I had a negative experience at Gentle Dental Del Lago. They tried to upsell and scam me. Here are the details if you are curious: My experience began with an hour wait to be taken back for my appointment, after which a dental hygienist briefly examined my mouth and pronounced I needed a deep cleaning. This requires a special numbing agent and is more costly than a regular cleaning. The hugienist said she could not do it that day and I would need to come back. She also said I need Perio Protect to start medicating my gums to fight off periodontitis. She said that if I did not do these things I would later need a surgical cleaning. I said I couldn't believe the state of things was so bad in my mouth as I brush and floss 2x daily. She told me sometimes that does not help ward this issue off. What?! That is contrary to anything I have ever heard at a dentist's office. I was quickly ushered out after my hour-wait and five minute consultation where I was told how many hundreds of dollars I would need to pay for a device called Perio Protect. Mind you I never saw a dentist nor got my annual exam or cleaning. I was quite off put by this experience. I went home and researched the Perio Protect and Google immediately returned this: "It's important to note that the American Academy of Periodontology has concerns about the marketing claims and lacks evidence of rigorous, peer-reviewed clinical trials to support its efficacy" regarding the device. What little confidence I had in this office was completely shattered. Feeling a bit cynical, I then fell down a rabbit hole about why dental HMOs are a scam (my dental HMO sent me here). I had to shake my head for having bought one as my insurance broker, dad, and husband all told me not to get a dental HMO for exactly this reason. Fortunately, I was still within open enrollment so my insurance broker was able to switch be to a PPO. I then went to a nice respectable dentist's office. They gave me my exam and cleaning. They said there were no issues with my teeth. Fortunately I was wise to the schiesty sales tactics here at Gentle Dental and decided to leave this review for anyone considering establishing care with this office.

Negative experience: before today, ive had nothing but good experiences here but this time, the staff were so rude and made my sister cry after making her feel dumb for not wearing her retainer (she had lost it for 2 weeks). Then when checking out, we asked if another appointment was going to be needed, and the lady with attitude told us not if we aren’t gonna pay for anything, like what?? Please train your staff better, totally not okay.

Negative experience: Whatever you do, don’t make the same mistake as I did and go to these crooks for the last several years. They not only lie, leave you on hold for twenty minutes at a time, But they also overcharge Significantly. I had a root canal and a crown done a year and a half ago in 2023, For which they charge me $2000 for (I got quoted for 500 somewhere else afterwards - straight CROOKS). They said my insurance was good to go and then my claim was accepted. For months, I was receiving emails with statements for 500$ EXTRA dollars with threatening language I would call them And speak to the manager and she would tell me don’t worry about it. We just have to wait for something to clear at the end of the year. It’s just how your insurance works. You don’t owe anything else. No one ever sent me a confirmation of these discussions like I requested. No one ever emailed me any kind of confirmation. Now a year and a half later, I have already moved away to Colorado, I’m still getting the same emails from their stupid admin system. I called the manager and left me on hold for a half an hour, I called and left another voicemail. She never called me back. It is now three weeks later And they are saying that I now owe 500$ And that my insurance rejected the claim. I am going to blow this up all over social media and internet, This is not the first time that they have shorted me and asked for more money later on, And I am also filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Oh, and by the way, The root canal they did still hurts, I went to see a specialist out here in Colorado and they took an x-ray and they said it was done improperly and that it’s going to have to be redone over again. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Fantastic experience: I just had my 3 month check in after I had finished my braces. My Invisalign retainers are great. I'm very thankful to all the staff that helped me now have more confidence in myself with my new and improved smile. Negative experience: If i could give zero or negative stars i would. i am a man that not only talks the talk, he walks the walk (see those attached receipts) i went for standard cleaning and x-rays. the exam and x-rays went well but when it came down to the treatment plan i feel a huge upscaling of prices leaning heavily in the predatory kinda style. When i told them about this and went over the codes they stated they had different codes that needed to be done and that it was "a must and required" and no dental work could happen unless i did all thats in these attached highway robbery plan opps...meant "treatment plan" I told them that i would not like the root canal and showed them that my front tooth (was broken all the way to the nerve and exposed) didnt have a root canal and i was able to get the crown. also wouldnt let me select what type of crown (had to get the porclain jordan air 100's) when i wanted metal (hello the metal are 100 times cheaper and they are my molars no one would see the metal duuuuuuuuh) I told them i wanted to waive deep cleaning for now and would just like a regualr cleaning but they said they wouldnt do the cleaning without it (this was after i battled them to get the "lazer" mark up taken off) they would not accept waivers or let me choose anything for them and would not to the crowns or the cleaning without it and i left that day with nothing done and two holes in my mouth

They explained step by step and went to the lobby and shared information with my daughter. Everyone who talked with my daughter and I were extremely helpful and informative. Negative experience: I will likely never return to this dentist office. Had an appointment at 0800 for a standard checkup and cleaning. Wasn’t called back till 0830 and didn’t actually have my cleaning start till 0845. I have had plenty of dental work in the past and I have never had such an incomplete cleaning. The dental hygienist only polished my teeth. Did not brush, scrap plaque, or floss my teeth. When the dentist finally saw me she spent about a minute or two doing a visual inspection and called it good. Additionally, the last time I visited I was told I had a cracked tooth and gingivitis and the dentist didn’t mention any of that today. I felt that they were rushing me out to clear the space when ultimately they wasted my time; I might as well have brushed and flossed a second time this morning, it would have been a better clean than what I received this morning. Overall, probably one of the worst dentists I have ever been to.

Negative experience: Went to this dental office in 2023 and gave them a bad review. Months later they called and offered me a small discount. I decided to go back and give them another chance to be nice and efficient. Manny was awesome. Amelia and Jackie were polite and friendly. The dentist was okay. My only issue was with Loritza. She was aggressively trying to do an up charge that was unnecessary and she should not be talking to patients. I will not be going back due to her behavior.

Negative experience: Hello, went for a cleaning and was advised to get a deep cleaning. The cleaning was awful as they injured the inside of my mouth and gums. I have gotten a deep cleaning at my former dentist in AZ but this place was horrific. Recently, I switched to another dentist and that doctor advised I did not need the deep cleaning in the first place. I would advise to not use their service but if you have to, please ensure that they don't complete unnecessary procedures and that you avoid any major service from "gentle" dental.

Negative experience: Can’t recommend this place. You come on time for your appointment but you always wait before being accommodated. I wasted my time off just to be x-rayed. They didn’t even clean my teeth because they said Im not scheduled for cleaning, though i just had my xray 6 mons ago. Dentist said my teeth are okay, no cavity, but then recommends Deep cleaning. It’s a red flag! Beware of extra fees in this office!

Fantastic experience: The experience was wonderful. Emilia was a welcoming person in the front desk. I had an amazing first time experience. The office staff were great as well.

Negative experience: My appointment was scheduled for 10:30 am. I arrived 15 minutes early. Apparently, there was an office meeting that left me sitting in the chair until 11:30. Very inconsiderate. I was not given any inclination that I would be left alone for an hour, nor was I given any form of an apology when I had to leave my examination room to find out what was happening. I had already heard that the hygienist is brutal when it comes to the pain levels during a routine cleaning and also experienced this first hand during my last cleaning. I vowed to never let her touch my mouth again. I had been told by two different people that they don't go to Gentle Dental for cleaning any more because of the brutality of this hygienist. After my check up, I was then told that this hygienist was the only one who could give me a cleaning; she has been the only option for at least a year. This is unacceptable. My sources were right, confirmed through my experience. Never again. I like the dentist but I need to find a hygienist at a different office.

Fantastic experience: Emilia , Manny and Dr Dutta was very helpful, courteous and kind and took care of me. I would recommend that to anybody that need dental work. Great job I also came back adjusted my thanks, Dr Dutta and staff Manny keep up the good work

Positive experience: Saw Dr Dutta for a 2nd opinion re root canal & crowns. I was glad to see her, everyone was nice. I did feel I had to wait alittle long before leaving but was still feel like I treated well

Fantastic experience: I have to say that my experience was good, the staff is very friendly and flexible with the scheduling. They don’t try to push more stuff on you and they don’t pressure you into anything you don’t feel comfortable. I had a extraction and bone graft done the Doctor was really good, professional and friendly and did it pretty smooth, I’ve had this procedure done at other dentist and was not done as good and not even close. My would definitely recommend Gentle Dental to my friends and family.

Fantastic experience: The entire staff was friendly and helpful for my first appointment! I had a next day appointment that I thought would be routine, but ended up being quite complex due to a tooth crack. I spent quite a bit of time in the office for that reason, and was very impressed.
