Fantastic experience: Dr. Riley is the best dentist I've ever had. He is so thorough, calm and compassionate. He explains everything and helps you feel at ease. His staff is top-notch also. They are all incredibly friendly and professional. I recommend him to everyone looking for a dentist.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Dr. Riley for over 5+ years and have always had a great experience. Recently I had my first cosmetic work done on some bonding on my front teeth and he did a great job. It looks the best it has ever looked and exceeded my expectations.

Fantastic experience: I almost never leave reviews but felt compelled to after this experience. I have always had a fear of dentists as I have always been sensitive and hate the scraping and poking to the point of needing to be heavily numbed or put on laughing gas just to get through a cleaning. I have been putting this visit off for far too long, but in a way, Im glad I did just so that I could find this location. All staff are friendly and welcoming, as well as understanding. The exam rooms dont feel clinical, and I never felt looked down on for the health of my teeth like I have felt in the past. The office didnt feel chaotic, and the exam rooms even had tvs which was a welcome distraction. The woman doing my cleaning (I am terrible with names, i am so sorry) was willing to slow down if I ever needed a second, adjusted when necessary, talked me through everything all while never making me feel like I was being ridiculous or a bother. Atter looking over my xrays, we discussed a plan and answered all my questions with care and let me know that I am always welcome to reach out for questions or concerns. This is only my first visit, but I dont dread the follow ups. 10/10 across the board- only thing I cant yet judge is the financial side but from what I can tell, theyre fairly flexible. Definitely highly recommend especially for anyone with anxieties around dentists.

Fantastic experience: From scheduling to checkout, the experience was AMAZING. I was able to get in same day for an urgent issue and the team and Dr. Ryan had so much compassion. I am excited to be a returning patient. They even have an instruction card that states what works with the medication prescribed. :)

When I had a concern, they were able to get me in the very next day, and then scheduled me the following week to take care of the issue, which truly meant so much to me. Holly, Dr. Riley’s dental assistant, was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and made me feel completely at ease. My hygienist, Lauren, was so sweet and made me feel right at home during my cleaning. Above all, Dr. Riley is absolutely amazing; sweet, extremely gentle, and clearly very skilled. Hands down, this is the best dentist and dental office I have ever been to. I actually feel comfortable and confident going to the dentist now, which I never thought I’d say. Highly recommend to anyone looking for outstanding dental care!

Fantastic experience: Dr Ryan Riley has done alot of work on my teeth in the last three years. He is one of the best dentist I've ever been to. Very genuine guy! He's stayed late and busy or not he works me into the schedule same day. I've had a couple of emergencies and I've called the after hours number and he's gotten back to me within five mins.. I Highly recommend him for anyone who needs to see a dentist!

Fantastic experience: A couple of years ago, I had some really unpleasant experiences with various dentists around Des Moines after not having been to a dentist for several years. I also suspected for awhile that I have TMJD but kept getting the run around from those dentists and my primary care doctor, getting no answers or treatment plan. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Riley per a recommendation from a friend who moved to Kansas City and drives back yearly just for treatment! After my first visit, I knew exactly why she’s willing to drive 6 hours round trip to get her teeth cleaned. Dr. Riley (and his team) provide the most gentle and kind care I’ve ever experienced. I was pretty anxious for my first visit and communicated that, as well as some extra jaw pain I’d been having, and they paid special attention, allowing me to take breaks for my jaw comfort as needed. Dr. Riley is incredibly thorough and communicative, and I always leave feeling confident and cared for. I received a referral from Dr Riley my very first visit for a TMJ specialist at the University of Iowa and finally am getting answers and treatment for my condition. I highly recommend Downtown Dental Care to everyone, but especially those with anxieties around going to the dentist!

Fantastic experience: Since graduating from college and moving away from home, I had to find a new dentist. I heard pretty good things frol Reddit so I decided to give Downtown Dental a chance. This was hands down the best dental experience I have ever had. Scheduling was very east. You are always met with kindness here. I had gone a couple years without a cleaning, so I was a bit nervous about that part; this ended up being the most gentle cleaning I’ve had. Dr. Riley was great and explained everything very well. A kind and thoughtful team who is also very good at what they do!!

They are extremely easy to talk to, very accommodating, and I have had two incidents where I’ve needed to get in sooner and each time they’ve gotten me into the first appointment the next day! Fantastic experience: I take my five year old and two year old and they really like it there. Everyone there is so nice. I'd recommend this place to anyone. There is meter parking but there are always spots nearby and it's only a couple bucks.

Fantastic experience: I have had traumatic experiences with dentists in my past, but Dr. Riley and his staff know how to put patients at ease. He and his staff worked on my wife first and let me watch. A few days ago, it was my turn. Joanie the receptionist was a sweetheart and Lauren, the dental hygenist was wonderful. All of them are compassionate. They talk you through the procedures and thoroughly explain everything. During the procedure, they repeatedly check in with you to make sure you are ok. I have found my dentist and dental office!!! ❤️❤️

It's the best dentist. You won't ever feel nervous, they take good care of you. The receptionist is an angel and will work with your schedule.

Negative experience: Nice dentist, bad office policies/staff. I was a patient here for 5 years. During the pandemic, they tried to charge me a cancellation fee for cancelling less than 24 hours in advance even though I was positive for COVID. The last straw came last month. I was on a camping trip without cell service in the days leading up to my appointment. I returned home to find tons of texts, voicemails, emails asking me to confirm my appointment. The voicemail said because I didn't confirm they canceled it. Terrible business practice.

Dr Riley is informative and compassionate, truly. I was so nervous to start anew, but all of those fears are silly now that I look back on them. It also helps that all of the gals that I interacted with are very caring and great at conversation!! We have had some laughs! I absolutely look forward to going back and having my smile taken care of here! If you need a good dentist and you dont mind being treated like someone they have known for years, then this place is for you!

Fantastic experience: We have gone to Dr. Riley for at least 10 years. He is the best. He is a very traditional dentist that doesn’t just do a procedure to make money. He lets you know if you have a tooth that may need to be filled in the next few years but he doesn’t push a person to fill it right away. We so much appreciate Dr. Riley. His staff is awesome! There is zero concerns with them saying you have problems you don’t have and all that. He filled a cavity of mine almost two years ago and it needs some more work - he is doing everything completely complimentary as it was within two years of him fixing it. I’ve never had a dentist show that kind of honor when dealing with things, I really appreciate him and his entire staff for doing what they do.

Our whole family goes here, and even my reluctant five-year-old leaves happy, thanks to Dr. Riley's skill and kindness.

Fantastic experience: I was a new patient who had avoided going to the dentist for a long time due to past trauma and anxiety. I explained my situation to Mejrima and Dr Riley. They were both very kind and made me feel comfortable. They took the time to empathize, explain everything they were doing before doing it, and made me feel comfortable to speak up, ask questions, and partner with them to improve my dental health. I was very thankful for the experience and I think that going forward, I will no longer feel that sense of anxiety and dread when going to the dentist but will feel good about it instead.

Fantastic experience: Awesome experience. My dental hygienist, Mejrima, is awesome. So personable and interesting to talk to. Plus, she even recommended a documentary about the history of the psychology of advertising when I told her I was in the advertising industry. Also, Dr. Riley was super great and I really appreciate his philosophy of NOT upselling products I don’t need or want, like other dental clinics I’ve gone to in the past. If I want Botox I'll go get it from someone who does that. I really don’t need my dentist schlepping me things.

Fantastic experience: In the past I HATED going to the dentist but downtown dental has changed how I feel about the dentist. The team is super friendly and have been great answering any questions I have. When I was experiencing dental pain the front desk called me anytime a closer time slot was available to make sure I could get in as soon as possible to make the pain go away. Everyone from the front desk to the dental hygienists to Dr Riley were wonderful. I definitely recommend them.
