We practice a full scope of general and cosmetic dentistry in Johnston, Iowa with expertise ranging from veneers to dental implants, crowns and bridges. Our husband-and-wife team of Dr. Emily Furrow and Dr. Derek Furrow seek to provide the highest level of care in all aspects of general, cosmetic, and family dentistry and can even redesign your smile with modern, state of the art, dental technology. Whether it’s your little one’s first dental visit, or you have a full dental history, we are happy to serve you and your whole family with comfort and convenience. Fantastic experience: My experience yesterday at Furrow Family Dentistry was wonderful! Completely stress fee! and I reminded my hygenist that I had forgotten to take my daily anxiety meds... she replied no worries you will not need here. Gentle and thorough as could be. Dr. Derek came in to go over my findings and in complete comfort advised me for the first time in 60 years I have a perfect check up!! I scheduled my 6 month appointment and off I went for the day. If you are new to the community or looking to make a switch I can not recommend a more compassionate/friendly office staff. I tell everyone I know when asked for a dental professional... Furrow Family Dentistry. Great location and Excellence. Raised in the Johnston community and growing their family and practice locally!

Fantastic experience: I have had this dentistry group do a lot of different things in my mouth though it has still been less than a year since I started. Just had my first 'normal' trip in January 2026 where it was just a 'well-baby' visit = a cleaning and checking to see if everything looks good. I am still very pleased with everyone there from the dentist - Mr. Furrow - to everyone else. I would recommend this group to anyone - and have. Give them a try.

Fantastic experience: I was excited about going to Furrow Family Dentistry. Imagine my surprise when I was assigned to the famous Corn Fed Hygienist! Check out her videos! Emily certainly knows her stuff when it comes to cleaning teeth. She answered all my questions was patient in getting rid of The crud between my teeth and Tommy a few things along the way. Appreciated her light hardness and her humor. Look forward to seeing her again in six months.

Fantastic experience: Furrow is hands down the best dental experience EVERY visit!! Multiple times now they have saved my smile on short notice due to random happenings!! They are always able to get me in to see the Dr almost immediately and the best part is the fact that they recommend solutions that are best for MY situation and don’t try to upsell! Fantastic experience: Whether it’s a routine cleaning with the hygienist or a visit to Dr Derek, the care and quality is exceptional! I just had two crowns due to small cracks in the teeth. I hate the numbing injections with a passion, but a topical anesthetic was used which made the subsequent injections painless. The entire procedure took 3 1/2 hours and flew by quickly. The best part is that I was done in one visit! I highly recommend Furrow Family Dentistry!!

Fantastic experience: I have been looking for a new home dentist office for quite some time, and I am so glad I landed with Furrow Family Dentistry. The hygienists and dentists were incredibly kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. During my cleaning, they constantly checked in to make sure I was comfortable, explained every step, and brought to my attention things such as gum irritation or slight recession to keep me informed on areas they will monitor which I loved. They never pushed added expenses or optional services. Instead, they clearly explained all of my options (all things I had asked about) without any pressure to decide one way or another. You can tell this is a truly people-centered practice that cares about their patients and their comfort, not profits. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: We switched to Furrow after more than a decade with another dentist and I wish we had done it sooner! Dr. Derek helped us out in a pinch whereas our previous provider wasn’t able to see us for weeks. The care is highly personalized and Emily, my hygienist, went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable throughout the process. I just took my son in and he had a wonderful experience as well!

Excellent cleaning, clear explanations and a caring dentist. I do not have dental insurance so the yearly membership that was offered worked for me.

Fantastic experience: We brought our 3 month old daughter in for a lip tie evaluation to help with breastfeeding/eating issues. Both Dr. Emily and Dr. Derek took the time to see us and help us evaluate what would help. They were so thorough helping us understand our options and gave us great advice. They gave us professional help, and added in their own parenting experience which really helped make our decision to finally laser/cauterize the lip tie. They made that procedure so quick and not scary for us or our baby. We appreciate them so much!

Fantastic experience: A Lifesaver When I Needed It Most: Furrow Family Dentistry I recently had a tough tooth extraction at Furrow Family Dentistry, and I can't thank them enough. I was in a lot of pain, and they really went out of their way to get me in quickly, which I truly appreciated. Dr. Derek was fantastic. He made what could have been a pretty rough experience surprisingly smooth. He's clearly an expert, but also very down-to-earth and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. And the team was just great. Taylor and Carly, the dental assistants working with Dr. Derek, were so kind and attentive. Then there's Amanda, the plan care coordinator, who was incredibly helpful in making sure everything was sorted out. They all made a stressful situation much easier to handle. If you're looking for a dental office that genuinely cares and will go the extra mile for you, I highly recommend Furrow Family Dentistry. They truly helped me out when I was in a bind!

Fantastic experience: I have had some very horrible experiences with dentists in the past. So I am very thankful to have found a good dentist local to me. I’ve gone to this dentist for several appointments. I’ve enjoyed their customer service and attentiveness to my concerns about my teeth. Friendly front staff and their lobby is cute. I’d definitely recommend this office for all ages.
