Negative experience: When visiting the dentist I felt like they were always pressuring you to buy things from them so it felt more like a car dealership than a dentist. They also make you pay them before they run your insurance and threaten not to run your insurance. They also refuse to give me what I am owed because insurance paid them instead. Now I’m out $3,000 and they are so useless and don’t help when asked

Fantastic experience: Dr. Lawson genuinely cares about her patients! She always goes above and beyond!

Negative experience: I attempted to switch to Dr. Lawson’s office after my previous dentist retired. This was the worst experience I have ever had, anywhere. I was looking for just a 6 month checkup and a cleaning but instead got stuck with a $500 bill when leaving the office for services my insurance didn’t cover. This was only an exam and X-rays but they never checked my benefits and nothing was within the allotted frequency. I have never walked out of a dentist with a bill for a checkup in my life. I was so caught off guard. By the way, they never did clean my teeth, the reason for my visit. They did however offer a cleaning at a later date for thousands of dollars upfront with hopes that the insurance might cover some of it. I left with a feeling that I had just been taken advantage of. It was a money grab with no real concern or advocacy for the patient. New patients beware.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Lawson and Lawson Dentistry. I sought treatment for mild to moderate sleep apnea, TMD, and chronic jaw pain caused by idiopathic condylar resorption. I initially pursued care after having my daughter, when I realized I didn’t just feel “new mom tired”—I felt like my body was constantly stuck in fight-or-flight and my chronic jaw pain was the worst it had been in a long time. It was persistent and overwhelming enough that I knew something more was going on. I completed a sleep study, which confirmed what I suspected: even during the stretches of sleep between night wakings, my sleep was being repeatedly interrupted because my body was waking itself up when I stopped breathing. This wasn’t a temporary problem and wasn’t going to resolve on its own. For over a decade, I saw providers from multiple specialties for my jaw pain and was told to avoid gum and certain foods, but no one offered real solutions. I even met with a surgeon who told me my only option was a mandibular joint replacement. That would have meant having my jaw wired shut for an extended period of time, with the likelihood of needing another replacement every 10–15 years. At 30 years old, that felt like a road of misery, not a true solution. Since using the appliance, my sleep apnea has completely resolved. I wake up feeling truly rested and can clearly feel the difference. My husband is sleeping better too now that I’m not snoring nearly as much—so this appliance has been life-changing for both of us! Even more, the constant tension in jaw has almost completely disappeared because my jaw is finally able to relax at night. I have fewer headaches, less tension, and so much more freedom in my daily life. The improvement has gone far beyond sleep and pain relief. My mood has improved because my body is no longer constantly under stress. I’m more patient with my daughter, more focused at work, and I feel like a healthier, happier version of myself. Dr. Lawson has been kind, knowledgeable, and never once made me feel pressured. She took the time to explain every option clearly and helped me feel confident in my care. I’m incredibly grateful for the difference this treatment has made in my health and quality of life.

Fantastic experience: I reached out last Friday with a dental concern. The staff shared this with Dr Lawson and I received a text end of work day with option for an emergency appointment to be seen Monday. (Today). I trust Dr Lawsons expertise, experience and knowledge. She worked for me today - through her lunch break (as did the other staff) providing services to meet my needs and give me the most comprehensive treatment plan moving forward. She explained every detail along the way and listened to all my fears and concerns, answering all my questions. Dr Lawson and her team once again went above and beyond in taking care of me and my dental needs. You will never find a dentist who will work for you and your overall care like Dr Lawson. Negative experience: We paid $25,000 for 3 unusable implants that don't grind food and 1 failed implant. So we got 100% failed implant from this dentist. She scammed us.

Fantastic experience: I experienced 2 cracked teeth in a matter of days which ultimately became infected. Dr.Lawson and her staff got me in and out of excruciating pain the same day within an hour of walking in the door. Not only incredibly compassionate, I was given a detailed explanation of what needed to be done and why (Something that appears to be lost on many in the medical field, But digress...)

She asked my wife all kinds of questions about about her health history from what she could tell looking at her teeth/mouth and ended up requesting our Primary Care Provider(PCP) to do some lab work and we found out my wife has a Thyroid issue.....because of Dr Lawson. She is great with kids and truly wants to help everyone any way she can.

Fantastic experience: I am posting this for my 94 year old mother who says “If a 94 year old woman recommends Dr Lawson then you should realize Dr Lawson is a dentist above and beyond words. I have been to several dentists in my 94 years. Dr Lawson and her staff go above and beyond any dentist (and staff) I have ever saw. Her staff started with a warm welcome, helped me walk to the exam room and offered me a bottle of water. Then I was given a nice warm wrap to put around my neck and asked which tv station I preferred to watch. Because I needed work on my four front teeth, Dr Lawson used oral “nova cane” swabs to start numbing the area. Then she injected a light nova cane and waited to let that take effect. Shortly after that she injected a deeper nova cane. I felt none of that and none of the work in my four front teeth. And one last thing I would like to mention to assure you Dr Lawson and her staff are extremely knowledgeable and caring. I had been hospitalized with congestive heart failure 6 weeks prior to this dental work. I had absolutely NO problems. But I was confident I wouldn’t have any problems because I had been treated with such kind professionalism at prior appointments.”

Fantastic experience: My tweens and I have been patients of Dr. Lawson since we moved to Des Moines 2 years ago. I am always impressed with how knowledgeable, patient and thorough she is on each visit. As a mother herself, she really knows how to connect with my kids and help them relax. I have also been blown away by the success my kids have had with her early interceptive systems to avoid traditional braces. By expanding their narrow palates before they hardened and guiding their teeth early, we have seen tremendous improvement in a short period of time without the use of any brackets and wires or trips to an orthodontist. I had no idea these alternatives were available and Dr. Lawson was very helpful in discussing if they were right for my kids. I'm so thankful for her knowledge and dedication to her patients!

In a previous visit, Dr. Lawson placed a crown on one of my molars, and noticed my bite was off, so she adjusted it. It feels so much better, and I didn't even realize how hard I was biting on those back teeth. Could have eventually ended up in a cracked tooth. Small, but BIG, is that Dr. asked me what my "goals" were for my teeth. I've been going to dentists my whole life, and no one ever asked me that. Good question. I want to keep my teeth! I'm very grateful for her holistic approach.

Fantastic experience: When my daughter’s permanent teeth began coming in, Dr. Lawson recommended we try the Healthy Start Program. It’s easy to question the unknown, but after a year of the program, my daughter’s teeth look amazing! It’s hard to imagine the change in one year’s time. Her smile looks great, teeth-grinding is gone, less throat infections. We have no regrets investing in the Healthy Start program. My daughter also has no complaints!

Fantastic experience: My son adored Dr. Lawson, she was gentle and kind with him and he made sure to let me know after we left that he was no longer scared to go to the dentist!

Negative experience: The worst dentist I’ve ever been to. Lies about the cost of things, and tries to add more to the bill later. She basically ruined my teeth and my jaw. She also offered me no feasible treatment options for my TMJ. Definitely will do anything to squeeze some extra money out of you, including providing detrimental “treatment” so that you have to come back and spend more later.

Fantastic experience: After the dentist we had been going to for 20 years retired, we needed to find a new one. I knew Jessica from having one of her children in my classroom at the daycare I was working at several years ago and had seen her advertisements, so we decided to try them out. We absolutely love it there, just after 1 visit! We immediately felt right at home and everyone was so welcoming and knowledgeable and it was great to see Jessica again after all this time!
