Experiencia fantástica: The results of my sleep apnea test showed I had “severe” obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Because I am too claustrophobic for a CPAP machine, I decided to pursue a MAD (mandibular advancement device). It was a long shot because I read where a MAD can only correct “severe” OSA in 5% of the cases. I thoroughly researched who looked like the best dental office in the area for my problem, and scheduled with TX TMJ Sleep & Facial Pain. I was totally impressed with Dr. Onurlu from the moment I met him. He was professional, confident in his work, polite, and very knowledgeable. The office staff was very accommodating, both during the appointment and afterward. After using the MAD, I had a repeat sleep study at UT Southwestern, and to my amazement, I no longer have sleep apnea AT ALL! When I told Dr. Onurlu about the 5% success rate, he said that this was not the case for his patients (his numbers were higher). Another added benefit is that not all dental offices will take Medicare for a MAD, but this office does. Kudos to a job well done!

Experiencia negativa: This place is an bit of a scam. I made an appointment specifically telling them I only wanted to use them if my insurance covered the procedure (Botox for tmj). Had a 5 mins appointment where I was quickly shuffled to a financial consoler who told me insurance never covers this and they could offer a price 2x my dentist. Then they billed my insurance $360 for the honor.

He evaluated me and gave me a treatment plan. He also sent me to PT. The pain subsided during PT but returned if I didn’t do the exercises. I’m now pain free after treatment by Dr Virk.

Experiencia positiva: Friendly providers and staff, but just be cautious. I had an appt which had been scheduled specifically to get a mouth appliance started. Had been told by staff in Oct that my insurance showed it would be completely covered if I did it then. Even though my plan did not change for the new year, I know coverages sometimes do so called the office a week prior to my Jan visit to ask about this and to get the code which would be used to submit the claim. I then verified with my insurance that the code was coverable and did not require a prior auth. However, on the day-of, I learned the code the office gave me over the phone was incorrect and my plan would not cover it. On the one hand, I'm really glad we found out in time not to make the device, but on the other hand I'm really disappointed. I thought I did my due diligence to call the doctor's office and check beforehand and validate with insurance, but if I'd known it wouldn't be covered I would have either (a) canceled my visit and saved the copay cost which is half my grocery budget for the month, or (b) at least asked the doctor some questions about alternative options.

Experiencia negativa: I am extremely upset. I had my second appointment scheduled for today, and it was canceled only two hours prior. Will I be compensated for a cancellation made without the required 24-hour notice? I was told the appointment was canceled because they were unable to verify my insurance benefits, claiming that I have a second active insurance out of state. This is completely incorrect. I moved here nearly eight years ago and have seen multiple specialists, undergone procedures, and never once has this been an issue or prevented me from being seen. This appointment was scheduled over a month ago, yet they waited until the day of the appointment to attempt verification and then canceled at the last minute. I had already requested PTO specifically to attend this visit. This situation is highly unprofessional and unacceptable.

Experiencia negativa: This doctor is good but his staff is horrible. Update Aug 25. I appealed all 3 claims and won. Bieber they billed it wrong and I did not owe them as much as I paid because my insurance just paid it as part of the office visit. So they owed me back $700. They told me they sent to refund to my old address. But it didn't get forwarded. I called again to give them my correct address and told them the new owner said they didn't get anything. They said they spotted payment and sent to my new address. Two weeks went by and still no check. I called again, and STILL can't get past the reception person to actually talk to someone in billing. It wasn't until I emailed them, sent a message on the portal to every avenue I could and messaged them literally 5 times that someone called me, confirmed my address, and resent the check. And what do you know, I got that one. Glad to be done with this place. I went in in Nov 24 they told me I needed 2 braces and it would by $1200 with insurance. We talked it over and decided to wait until January 25 when my insurance renews to a new company with better coverage. I go in and they tell me I need 3 braces now because in the 6 weeks the TMJ progressed. I speak to the insurance manager SEVERAL TIMES everything is good so I paid the $800 for 2 and was waiting to pay the 3rd until I needed it. I pick up my brace that moves your jaw. I wear it as directed for 2 weeks. I called in TWICE and told them I think something is wrong my bite is off. They refuse to let me talk to someone, so I make an appointment. I'm in tears in his office because my beautiful smile my parents paid a fortune for is gone. I can't eat because I have a bite that's off so bad my teeth clang together and it's painful, not to mention because my teeth don't come together I can't chew anything. He tells me to stop wearing the brace #1 and start with the daytime brace #2. I do this, for 2 weeks and the bite starts returning to normal AFTER 4 PT visits and daily exercises. I go back in for a follow up and he gives me the night time brace #3. Tells me to stop wearing the daytime and only wear the nighttime. So I paid $800 for 2 braces I wore both less than 2 weeks each and the one jacked up my jaw. Now I pay for brace 3. Here's the worst part. The first 2 brace were done in January. It's now May 16 and the claims are still not paid and finalized. They've been rejected due to no pre authorization. I talk to the insurance manager at my final in person visit in March and she assured me they are working on it. Told me just to tell other providers I met my deductible and not to charge me full price. Sure... cause we know they will believe me right? No!!! I'm 5 months into the year still paying full price for everything after meeting my deductive in January. I called in to talk to the manager again since I'm out of state now and the front desk will not transfer me, won't give me a voicemail, and nobody returns my calls when I try to ask them what's going on with the claims. Instead the receptionist tells me "they are re-filling it and you can appeal if you don't like their decline". So I now have to appeal a claim 5 months old they failed to get pre authorization on and i owe them $6300.... good luck cause I don't have that kind of money. And frankly you messed up my jaw and should have just skipped to the 1 brace to begin with. Dr Virk is a good doctor. Dr O not so much he's the one that jacked up my jaw and Dr Virk had to fix it. But his insurance department is the worst!! On the plus side, my jaw did go back to normal after 6 week PT and the night guard is working well too keep my pain at bay. I'm not happy about having to leave a bad review because his staff is incompetent. If they would let me talk to someone other than the receptionist and keep me in the loop on what's going on i wouldn't have even bothered with this review.

Experiencia negativa: I am so shocked at these wonderful reviews. I had a mediocre experience. At first I thought the doctor was simply having a bad day, but in another appt he was the same - cold and distant. They offered me lots of things and I pushed back and asked questions they didn't seem to want to answer. When I said it would be better to try one thing at a time to know what works, they said yes. I paid for 2 appliances and turned down the rest. I now received a $1,050 bill from my insurance because the provider was incorrect in the allowable amount. I read about this before on Facebook but didn't pay much attention. Don't go to this clinic. I very much doubt they will take responsibility for it, even though the insurance is requesting Dr. Virk to pay! Stay away!

Dr. Virk has analyzed and addressed both my sleep apnea history and recent jaw stiffness and pain. His explanations are clear and thorough. I was shown options for appliances with differences explained. I appreciated being shown x-rays and learning what they demonstrated to him. I had time to consider alternatives and did not have to schedule a new appointment to begin therapeutic preparations saving me another trip and copay. I am very pleased with Dr. Virk’s care and feel confident that I will benefit from it.

Experiencia negativa: I don’t think I’ve ever had a doctor seem so bored to deal with a patient. I went through all my symptoms and what treatments I had tried with previous doctors. First I was recommended physical therapy which didn’t help and seemed to be a waste of time and money. In my second visit, Dr. Virk seemed to have no recollection of any of the treatments I had told them I had tried before, things they should have had on record in my file from the first visit. After recounting it all again, he recommended trigger point injections which I had already told him didn’t work. When I asked him if there was something more permanent we could try instead of therapeutic measures or injections that last a year or less, he replied, “Well… nothing is really permanent.” And then the assistant came in to go over potential prices for all the services they might offer. It feels like they’re much more interested in keeping patients paying in instead of actually helping them fix their health issues.

After some trigger point shots, physical therapy with a wonderful therapist Megan Ochoa, and daily use of Voltaren, I am much better. Please consider Dr. Virk to help your issues, too.

Experiencia fantástica: When the board certified Dr I had used for 30 years retired, I was doubting that I would ever find someone as competent, conservative and understanding as him. My Southlake dentist gave me Dr Vick’s name and I tried him. I cannot express how pleased I was with everything about him and the office as a whole. At my previous visit, I had been told I needed jaw replacements and a surgery that would involve a year’s recovery. Dr Virk evaluated me and gave me other options and KNOWLEDGE. He is a patient and excellent communicator. His calm, kind presence exudes competence. At my most recent visit, he determined that my recurring headaches were not a result of TMJ issues, but were migraines. Dr Virk took time to educate my husband on I on the anatomy of migraines and how we should deal with them in the future. It was a total mind shift. I now live 6 hours from Southlake, but drove there this week to see him. You won’t go wrong choosing to see him.

Experiencia negativa: This office is awful. I had to take three days off work to travel to see them and they screwed up my appointment. Worse still, they could not have cared less. Their office was just too busy to see me except there was only one person even in the office. They offered for me to drive across town, during rush hour and rain because apparently no one could be inconvenienced to correct their mistakes. And their intake process stinks, it looks like some sort of graphics from the 80s and all the text overlays other text and you can’t even read the questions. Photo of super not busy office.

Experiencia negativa: I was prescribed medications at my appointment and the doctor never called them in. I called the office staff and she informed me he was too busy and would do it by end of day which was 5pm. I called my pharmacy at 6:30pm and they still never received anything. Today, I call the clinic and the receptionist argues with me that it was already called in when I just spoke to the pharmacy and they never received anything. I called the clinic back AGAIN and they inform me that they will have to contact the provider outside of office hours ( like this is MY problem ) so here I am, still waiting for pain medication. Would highly recommend against coming here for any sort of prescription.

Experiencia negativa: The doctors I visited helped me with my jaw pain. But when I went to get a night guard, the office manager or whoever deals with insurance and quotes could not ever provide me with accurate costs on the appliance. Insurance was not checked prior to my visit. A quote was given at that visit for out of pocket and if covered by insurance. Insurance has finally approved and it is 3x what she quoted initially for being covered by insurance. My deductible had not been met, which is easy to check when you check the policy prior to the visit. No estimations are provided prior to the visit, so you pay for an office visit to get an estimate that hasn’t been approved or denied by insurance.

You rarely wait for your appointment. And most of all, with their help, I was able to fix my jaw issues neck troubles, and sleep apnea, all at the same time. I highly recommend visiting them!

Experiencia positiva: Dr. Virk and the front office staff were good. I found the office manager to be difficult to work with. At the end of one of my appointments, I had to wait ~20 minutes while she appeared to be training somebody. On one occasion when I called to speak with her, she was not available to talk yet she was able to carry on a conversation with me through the woman who answered the phone. Be weary of what the office manager says in relation to what is or isn't covered by your insurance. When my insurance rejected the injections I received, I was told my insurance is the problem. It would be best if you get the treatment codes and call insurance yourself.

Experiencia negativa: I’m honestly surprised with the good reviews. Wouldn’t recommend for complex TMJ issues. I have horrible symptoms, CT showed something was wrong with my TMJ and decided to treat with trigger point injections which didn’t work. He basically didn’t know how to help me and said to do Botox and didn’t try to come up with how to proceed with treatment regarding fixing the joint itself or even refer me if he didn’t know. Made the office order an MRI, which showed edema/ inflammation/ disc dislocation, they didn’t even call with results, I picked them up from the imaging place. I’m glad I didn’t buy the night guard because I ended up seeing an oral-maxillary surgeon who said the night guard is pointless in my case. No personalized treatment here, was just a waste of money.

They billed me for more money after I thought I’d already finished paying. The guard was over 2k and it’s useless. Hasn’t improved my TMJ at all! I’m still in terrible pain and my jaw locks frequently. And they get you to come back in for pointless appointments, just to charge more and more. After two pointless appointments, I finally caught on and hadn’t been back since. Poor quality! Dissatisfied!

Dr Virk is a great human being, enthusiastic and empathetic person who actually feels what you are suffering from and really understands your pain & the effects that pain has caused to your daily life. I really appreciate the way they have established the clinic. Thier approach towards each patient is unique, they have been treating TMJ disorders, Headaches and Sleep apnea cases since long. He believes in Evidence based practice which very few practices nowadays. I felt it's the place where you will get solution for your head and neck pain. Do visit them for getting your pain relief.

Experiencia negativa: Dr. Virk was a calm and nice doctor who had a good recommendations for treatment. Before my initial appointment, I emailed to confirm that they were in network with my insurance, having given them all the details of my insurance plan during patient setup. The office confirmed they were in network. After my two visits however, I was stuck with a bill that indicated the office was not in network and instead was put towards my deductible. When I inquired about this, billing team just explained to what a deductible was. Afterwards, I tried contacting them in response to my initial email where they confirmed they were in network and there was no significant response. Dr. Virk also recommended an oral device. The office wanted to file the insurance claim to ensure it was covered. I got a call from my insurance explaining why this request was denied. However, during my follow up, the staff at TMJ told me the oral device would be covered by insurance. I asked them to follow up since I was getting conflicting information but they never did. I'm glad I did not trust the TMJ office, if not, I would have probably had a significant bill consistent with the first due to lack of communication. Due to the unprofessionalism and lack of detail regarding the office and processing, I would not recommend this office sheerly due to the headache, despite Dr. Virk's apparent expertise.

As soon as receiving my referral they scheduled me like in lighting speed. When I arrived to the appointment the office is set up very nicely and Lauren was amazing and super sweet. The tech was really awesome and Dr. Virk was very thorough and answered all my questions. He was very patient and friendly the entire time. Everything and everyone made my visit pleasant and comfortable. I would highly recommend this TMJ specialist in a heart beat.

I was a little hesitant to see a doctor given the pandemic situation but social distancing and sanitisation have been well taken care of. Would highly recommend especially for anxious patients.

Experiencia fantástica: I've seen many professionals for help with TMJ over years including primary care doctors, ENT doctors, physical therapists and chiropractors. Since seeing Dr. Virk I have a more complete understanding of my diagnosis and a plan for relief. His office has worked with me on insurance, scheduling and re-sheduling with kindness and care. Without Dr. Virk’s expertise in this area I would still be struggling to find solutions to this very painful condition.

Experiencia negativa: I was hesitant to write this negative review. But I got the worst experience there. They claimed that they can treat nerve pain, sleep apnea, tmj pain.....etc but actually they refer you to other specialists to treat these issues. And with the tmj, You have to pay out of your pocket for unexpired codes that insurance doesn't approve. They tried to schedule me for follow up for no reason just to get more money. And all that they prescribed was muscle relaxants that didn't help even with my pain .

The entire staff was attentive, took their time to help and explain things to me, and was honestly super nice. Dr. Virk is awesome. He spent like 30 minutes answering all of my questions, sharing evidence-based explanations for everything TMJ and sleep apnea-related that I asked him. Also: he let me know that sleep apnea symptoms can present differently in women than men, and that is information I had never heard from any doctor before and found it extremely important. So, for any woman looking for a good TMJ/sleep apnea expert: I highly, highly recommend Dr. Virk!
