Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about UPD!!! We have been seeing Dr Brian since my 11 year old was 6 months old and with her being special needs they always go above and beyond to make sure she’s comfortable during her appointments! Everyone there is always so nice and so clear about the importance of dental hygiene in young kids. My 3 kids are all still cavity free and LOVE going to the dentist which says a lot about UPD because most kids and adults hate going to the dentist, but not my kids! Thank u all for all that u do for the kids that u serve! We are blessed to be apart of yalls community!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Upstate Pediatric Dentistry! My kids have been seeing Dr. Brian for the past 9 years and I cannot recommend him and his office enough! He is always so caring, calm and gentle with my children. He makes them feel comfortable during cleanings and procedures. My kids love Dr. Brian!! And the entire office staff is amazing! From appointments, billing and sweet dental assistants - we have consistently had fantastic customer service all around!

Negative experience: I have mixed feelings about this place. My son has been coming here since he was one year old. He has had regular cleanings and X-rays every year with no issues. Now 2026 he has his X-rays and I am told he has three cavities. All in between his teeth. I was told he needs two fillings and a crown. Went into an office and she said this is how much it cost, sign here, let’s get him scheduled. We come back two weeks later and he gets the crown and a filling. During the procedure for the crown, the dentist (who i have no idea what her name is) kept going back and forth between crown sizes. Let’s try a 6, let’s try a 5 etc etc and by this point she’s shaving more and more of his tooth and his gums are bleeding. Eventually she settled on a size 5 crown after unsuccessfully trying to force a size 6 on his tooth that just wasn’t fitting. We come back two weeks later for the last filing. My son has been complaining it hurts to floss his tooth (the one with the crown) since he got it and his gums above the tooth look abnormal. The hygienist looks at his gums and says “that might be an abscess he needs an X-ray!” My stomach drops because I didn’t know that was something that could happen after a crown. He gets the x ray, and I’m told no abscess. However, now I am told by the dentist an abscess could form at anytime and if it does the tooth might need to be pulled. It’s basically a waiting game now to see if an abscess forms in my seven year old son’s mouth. I am very disappointed in this entire process. I still have no idea what the dentists name is who did the procedures. The first thing that I should’ve been made aware of are risks, benefits, alternative options etc and I was never told any of that. I am not a dentist or hygienist. I have never had a crown or filling in my life. I have no experience in this field. And to spend about $800 out of my pocket on two filings and a crown to be told the tooth may need to be pulled is a disappointment. We have insurance but according to another review this practice is out of all insurance networks? I have no idea but I know I am not impressed with the dentist we were randomly placed with. I will say the dentist who did my son’s procedure is NOT on their website and I can’t find any photo or information about her on their website. In six years my son and I have never met Dr. Brian, Dr. Neena, or Dr. Marina. I remember meeting Dr. Michael? But am unsure if he is still at the practice. Shame on me for not asking more questions because now my son may have to suffer the consequences. But the right thing to do in every health care setting, without the patient having to ask, is to introduce yourself, and explain risks, benefits and alternatives before any procedure.

Quick background- I have found a good portion of the seldom negative reviews we get are, honestly, from parents that aren't always well informed or parents who are chronically finding fault everywhere they go. Your feedback certainly does not fall into either of these categories. Your feedback is thoughtful, measured and actually very helpful.
First off, I'd like to personally apologize. It sounds like our communication wasn't clear on several fronts and that certainly is not acceptable. I can't look up who you are or who your child is with only your initials listed as the author of the review, but you very likely saw Dr. MeChell. She's our newest dentist and is with us part time now. I have dropped the ball not updating our website and I'll get that done this week with her picture and bio. That is important and helpful for families to see.
Secondly, although I can't remark on specific situations due to HIPPA, I can reassure you that a crown is the most predictable restoration that we do. As dentists, a good crown or filling vs. an excellent crown or filling is measured in fractions of a millimeter. We are particular in what we do and always aim to get that fraction of a millimeter just right- ha- dentists are admittedly a nerdy breed. A little bleeding is normal as the crown fits below the gum line. Also, a filling or crown is a great procedure that I would happily do for my own kids when needed. Lastly, I am happy that y'all have had a good experience with us over the years before this happened. I hope that positive history is enough for you to continue coming to see us and hopefully show you that your concerns have been addressed in a satisfactory way. Fantastic experience: After finding out our kiddo needed multiple crowns, we started calling pediatric dentists around Greenville and Upstate was hands down the most helpful and kind. They gave me ballpark pricing right over the phone and were so pleasant, which honestly stood out right away. We went to Upstate Pediatric for a second opinion after getting X-rays at another office, and I immediately felt a sense of relief walking in. The hygienist was amazing, so patient and sweet with our kiddo and super helpful with all of our questions. When we met Dr. Bryan and talked through everything, I went from feeling overwhelmed to completely at ease. They originally planned three visits, but they were so great with him that we got everything done in two. They were incredibly patient and attentive, and made him feel comfortable the entire time. Even the way they explained things to him was so thoughtful. He ended up needing four shots and never saw them or even knew they happened, which still blows my mind. My husband and I were beyond impressed. 10/10 recommend Upstate Pediatric Dentistry. You can truly tell they care about the kids.

Fantastic experience: We used to move a lot so we have been to many different pediatric dentists. Upstate Pediatric Dentistry/Dr Brian is by far our favorite. Dr. Brian Is incredible with children and Has their best interests first. He is a family of his own and treats every child that walks through the door like they were his. He’s personable, extremely knowledgeable and caring. I would recommend them to anyone! And everyone in their office and staff have been incredible as well. Huge bonus that palmetto family orthodontics is In the same complex and they are the best orthodontist we have ever been to! Dr Watson Matches his compassion, knowledge, and kindness with Dr. Brian! Both are quick efficient and on time!

Fantastic experience: We had an amazing experience yesterday. The techs did an amazing job at being patient and understanding to my daughter whom gets overwhelmed/overstimulated at the dentist. Fantastic experience: First time appointment today for my two daughters! They are 3 and 1.5! Dr. Neena and the entire staff was amazing! Negative experience: Called to ask if they’re accepting new patients. The woman says yes. She asked if my daughter had any dental insurance. I told her no, we have healthy blue Medicaid, but I am going to pay out of pocket. The woman immediately changes her tone and said she’s not taking any new patients if we have that insurance. Discriminated because my daughter has healthy blue?Snobby and bad practice.

Fantastic experience: Cannot say enough good things about this practice. My 2 year old daughter is terrified of any doctor. But Dr Neena and her staff were incredible! She was singing wheels on the bus while looking at my daughter’s teeth and to my shock, no tears!!! it is so apparent she knows how to calm the nerves of young children and approach them in a way that eases their minds. She made me feel so comfortable as a parent and did not make us feel rushed as we asked about our daughter’s complicated dental situation. Recommend with flying colors and will be back with both our children.

Fantastic experience: The staff is always friendly from the time you check in to the time you check out. They are efficient and always get us in and out quickly. Fantastic experience: Dr.Brian did an outstanding job on my daughters procedure. He made sure to explain the process not only with me as her mother but with her being 5 years old and a bit scared, he talked her through every process and even included counting and engaged in on her level. Thank you Dr. Brian! The procedure was pretty intense for her age but we left happy and recovered very quickly.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Upstate Denistry! This practice is very organized, well run and staffed with friendly and very capable providers! We went to two other pediatric dentist in the area for dental work that my seven year-old son. These other practices up sold services that we did not need and we’re not as confident in procedures as Upstate Pediatric Dentistry. We went to Upstate for a second opinion and I’m so glad we did! Dr Brian Was so great with my son and was able to do the procedure while keeping my son comfortable and not nervous. She talks with them and keeps them distracted and entertained! They are the right balance of conservative and appropriate with needed services. The dental hygienist are also amazing and make cleaning teeth a breeze!

Fantastic experience: We recently switched dentists, due to proximity. After our 3rd child was urged a plethora of work, we decided to come back to our trusted Dr. Brian, for a second opinion we knew we could trust. Dr Brian did exactly that. He answered all of our questions, shared what he found, (which was much less invasive as the previous urging, in our scenario) and was flexible with treatment options. He has always been willing to work with whatever we have wanted to try, as far as anesthesia options, all-in-one, or split up services. As a result, our kids have always trusted him to do all the work in one sitting, with barely any flinching. We’re even more grateful for our short period away, because it made us appreciate him all the more.

Fantastic experience: We love this dental practice! I have been bringing my children here since 2015. The staff have always been friendly and professional, the dentists are 1st rate and we absolutely love this place. We live 45 miles from Greenville and drive here every 6 months and, as needed, for the kids dental needs. You will be in great hands at Upstate Pediatric denistry.

Fantastic experience: Everything and everyone was sooo delightful! My son I can say “ had fun” with the dentist and assistant. I especially love how at first, Grey was whining a little bit, then the dentist started singing and he was so amused that he got quiet and just listen. It was pretty cool to see! Greys first visit, and already love them.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Brian and his staff are patient and accommodating. My autistic son struggles with the dentist (it’s a sensory nightmare for him (Loud, bright, different noises from the equipment and has a lot of anxiety there), but Dr. Brian and the hygienist were patient and understanding. Dr. Brian lets him play with the light which fascinates him and eases his anxiety, and the hygienist offered him sunglasses when they were working on him and the lights got too bright.

Fantastic experience: My son had his 6 month cleaning on the 11th and Dr. Michael Thompson was sooo helpful and eased my son’s apprehension. He was scheduled to get braces on the next day(which went very well). My son loved the conversation about what colors to avoid. Yellow was one, lol. The front office and the dentist were amazing during his appointment on the 11th.

Fantastic experience: Every experience at UPD has been 5 star! The check in and check out staff are very friendly. When we have needed services beyond routine care, the staff have explained the billing process and what to expect with the procedures in transparent terms. The hygienists are so sweet and are really gentle with my kids. Dr Neena is the best! She explains things to our kids (and me) in a way that is easy to understand and not overwhelming or scary. We love UPD and highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Upstate Pediatric Dentistry is always a warm, inviting, clean office. They do a thorough job and accommodate for every patients needs. I have an autistic three year old who has been a patient with them since he was 12 months old, they’ve answered all questions with detail; elaborated and give tips/tricks if needed as well.

Positive experience: The dentist is great with kids. The issue is the staff. We showed up in time for our appointment and were told the appointment was the following day, on a Wednesday, which I would have never agreed to because Wednesdays don’t work for me. They made a mistake but did not own up to it. It’s already hard enough to get the kids ready for an appointment once, and now we have to go back again!

My guess what happened is whoever scheduled you initially miscommunicated what day it was going to be on. I'm genuinely sorry that happened. It sounds like unfortunately we didn't have time that first day to fit you into an already full schedule.
I also wanted to say "thanks" for being willing to come back the next day. That was kind of you to make it work and I hope we met all your expectations at that appointment!
Lastly, I would like to really brag on our whole team at the front office area. We all make mistakes sometimes, but every one of them is consistently excellent in my book and I'm really glad we have them on the team at UPD.

Fantastic experience: Everyone are friendly and nice from check-in to check-out. Also, all the workers are very helpful and always explain the procedure thoroughly, and make sure I understand fully. I also like the waiting area for the children to keep them busy while waiting!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Brian is the absolute best as well as his hygeinists. They always "examine" and talk about my daughter's favorite stuffed animal (Goldie or E.T.) she brings to all visits. They also make her laugh/smile and feel comfortable at a time when she is usually scared (being at the dentist :)). The connection with the kids Dr. Brian has is incredible. He gets on their level and does a great job explaining the procedures and making them feel comfortable and having them smiling and laughing with ease. I love the paintings all around the office as well! The murals are beautiful.

Negative experience: I miss an Appointment with this Doctor, and they told me to find another Doctor to treat my Child. I believed their office policy is so ridiculous. Can some one here suggest me another Dentistry Doctor? I know is my Fault for not remembering the appointment date, but I moved to different house and change my telephone Number, so if they contacted me I Miss the message!
