Negative experience: Been a 30 year customer and severing ties due to lack of thoroughness and professionalism. Business has been sold and peeps are not up to previous standards, unfortunately.

Fantastic experience: I have had nothing but exceptional care at this office. I primarily see Dr. Schicktanz, but have also seen Dr. Wood when I have come in last minute. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the hygienists, to the dentists are phenomenal. Dr. S is great at explaining the treatment plan in detail and easing any anxieties or questions I have. They don’t try to nickel and dime you and if they recommend any work to be done, they will show you exactly why. I recommend this office to everyone!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Wood and his staff are great! They go above and beyond! I have been going to Dr. Wood since the late 1980s! He is a fantastic dentist, has an up-to-date 3 D scanning machine, and stays up-to-date with dental procedures and surgeries. His assistants and hygienists are so good. His office assistant Terri is also wonderful. I highly recommend them! Dr. Wood has a new dental partner who is also great! I saw Taylor today (1/21/25) for teeth cleaning and she did such a wonderful job! Ditto for 5/14/25 and 8/28/25! Ditto for 3/25/2026. Hope is a wonderful dental hygienist!

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff amazing service

Positive experience: Just moved to Tempe from Mesa and Scheduled an appointment here for the first time. The receptionist wasn’t to polite. Asked me to do paper work and then asked me where I worked. I replied I own a vintage clothing shop in Tempe and for some reason she thought that was funny. Also tried to rush me into a payment plan and receive my dental work same day. Wasn’t expecting that at all, I wasn’t expecting to be rushed and laughed at for my first dentist appointment here. Her primary concern should have making my first time at this establishment a great one, not to rush money out of me. I have insurance so what’s the rush? Other than that, the Dentist himself and his assistant were great and I didn’t want to leave this review because a review would effect the whole Practice , but it’s my life and my dentist experience and I didn’t enjoy it. So I have to schedule to have my work done some where else. Sad because I live nearby, now I have to travel and be inconvenienced.

Negative experience: My cleaning was good. The low score is because of the rude front desk staff. They forgot I was waiting for my husband and they proceeded to talk about me being bossy and demanding because I asked them to forward X-rays to dentist in another state and because I had questions about the type of X-rays I had. When I asked if there was a problem with my request they scrambled upon realizing I was still there. One of them actually tried to tell me they were talking about someone else... Someone who had the same request as me. Very unprofessional.

Fantastic experience: Dr Wood and Dr Schicktanz are some of the most capable and skilled dentists in the valley. I have been their patient for five years and have recommended many family and friends to them in that time. What sets them apart is that they practice with integrity. I originally came to them for a second opinion for a dental scaling, and their hygienists were able to prevent it from being necessary. Since then, regular appointments have been a breeze and my teeth have been kept in great shape. They have good availability for urgent visits and will make sure you are never uncomfortable at your appointments. On the one occasion where a dental procedure didn't go perfectly (at no fault of them), they were available and willing to help correct the issue, even going so far as to comp a specialist visit. They have gone above and beyond to make me and my family lifetime patients. I would recommend both Dr Wood and Dr Schicktanz with the highest praise, both as dentists and as a dental office.

Fantastic experience: I have been Dr. Wood's patient for twenty two years. He and staff are beyond professional. The entire team is efficient, responsive, and kind. Always consummately on the cutting edge of technology while extending a welcoming environment that feels like the family we have become. There has not been an occassion in over the three past decades that the Wood Dentistry team has not been readily available to assist in an emergency. Today was a day for ritual cleanings. My Dental Hygienist, Sharon, is one of the best. My relationship with Wood Family Dentistry remains one of my greatest blessings. I will always be thankful for the decades of care.

Fantastic experience: I got a diagnosis from two other dentists that I should have a broken molar removed. Not satisfied, I looked for Dr. Wood's opinion, and he not only investigated it through a physical examination (under anesthesia), but was able to fix it on the spot, preparing for a crown installation and saving me a molar removal. Almost 50 years of experience count a lot. Thank you, Dr. Wood!

Fantastic experience: I broke off a crown of my front tooth at the gum line. I made an appointment on line to come in on Monday at 9:10 am. Dr Wood was able to extract my broken tooth and put in a temporary replacement tooth in an hour and I will get my permanent replacement so upset about having a gaping hole in my teeth and now I’m so happy

Negative experience: I had my crown replaced. The tech (filling in) who did the temporary crown did not know what she was doing. She put a temp in that protruded up like a ball. I complained and she kept grinding it on the wrong side. Now my temp crown angles down like a cliff. I had to complain on the way out and the gal at counter took me back and ground down the correct high side but could not fix the 45 degree angle on the back of the temp crown. The tech also dropped my temp crown with cement on it into my mouth and had to dig around to find it! Worst experience on a crown. Not the usual.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Fred Wood is the type of dentist that you can feel very comfortable visiting. He's a kind and gentle dentist who always takes the time to explain a procedure before commencing to insure that you understand and are comfortable with the dental work / procedure. Having been to other dentists who are rough, don't explain what they are doing or why, I feel so much better with Dr. Wood! He's been a long time resident of Tempe where he practices so I know he's going to be here for me and my children when we are in need of great dentistry services. His team is like he is as well, they are friendly and interested in you as people as well as clients. I could not recommend a dentist anymore than I can for Dr. Wood!

Fantastic experience: I recently had an emergency on a Saturday evening after Thanksgiving. I put in a call to Dr Wood at that time asking how soon they could fit me into their schedule. They told me to come in to the office at 11:00 on Monday morning. My situation was unique and very serious. An 8-year-old implant, that was installed at Tufts University in Boston Massachusetts, had come loose and was about to fall out. Much has changed to the hardware that was used 8 years ago and my implants were beginning to wear out. Dr Wood took his personal time to research and find the correct hardware to remedy the situation. What he did for me was nothing short of miraculous. He found the correct hardware and corrected my situation that morning, I felt like I had won the lottery! I am so impressed with the entire staff and his expertise, everyone is very professional and caring. I had driven from Prescott Arizona. It is well worth it to drive to Tempe for their professionalism and expertise. Nobody could possibly do what they do to help me. I would highly recommend everyone who has implants and needs help to use their services. I will continue to use Wood Family Dentistry in the future for all my needs and you should also. Thank you for your continued support Doctor Wood!

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Dr. Wood for just over 40 years! He jokes that I am one of his “first patients” and he has charting on me to prove it! Wood Family Dentistry is the absolute best. The entire staff is friendly, warm, attentive and most of them have been with Dr. Wood for decades (which should tell you a lot). Hygienists are fantastic; I have had Marcia for years (love her) and the last couple of times I have had Shelly, who is also wonderful (they ALL are). Susan (office manager), wears many hats and has been with Dr. Wood since the beginning. She is efficient, knowledgeable, fun & kind. She and Dr. Wood are like family to me (and my husband). Dr. Wood is a friendly, cool, upright, laid back, wonderful man and he’s a damned good dentist with a gentle touch. Over the years he has performed root canals, done fillings, crowns (all top-notch work) and has kept my mouth healthy and me at ease every visit. He has a great sense of humor & warm demeanor and stays involved in the Tempe community. If you are looking for the REAL deal, a time tested, solid practice (and are tired of pop-up dental offices that try to “up-sell” or use unprofessional approaches just to get you to dish out more cash), Wood Family Dentistry is where you will find your home. It’s WORTH it to get PPO insurance (if you have that choice) and pick your dentist. Even cash pay is very reasonable if you are looking for a cleaning and exam (and are not insured). With Wood & staff, you will actually look forward to your 6 month check up and cleaning!

They always have a spot available to see you, I've had fillings, crowns, root canals, an implant and I'm always happy with the finished product!! Fantastic experience: Love the work here and won’t go anywhere else for my dental needs. Be very caring and professional staff. Dr. Wood is a master of the craft and goes above and beyond for dental care. His genuine goal has always been to preserve your teeth rather than opting to go different routes that may be more costly. I’ve seen him for decades and I’ve had a bad history with my teeth that I should’ve lost some by now, but he’s done an amazing job ensuring that’s an absolute last route we’ll take. I can’t thank him enough for the care he’s put into me. Suzanne is super personable and does a thorough job, always ensuring you’re comfortable. She remembers previous chats we’ve had and always wants to know the updates with how my ventures in life have been going. She’s amazing! Terry is wonderful to see when I walk in. Very friendly and has the answers to everything! She’s always been diligent with my appointment reminders and changes when needed. She’ll make sure you know you’re a priority. She’s a wizard with billing and makes sure I understand every aspect of my invoices. When switching insurance providers, she’s helped me price out my visits on personal pay if I needed to do that in the interim. They always have your best interest at heart here. It’s not JUST about your teeth. They’re the best in the business. 10/10 would recommend.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Wood Family Dentistry for over 8 years. I can't say enough about how caring, skilled and professional this practice is. I've had a root canal, 8 crowns and biyearly cleanings. This is an old school, treat you like family type of practice. The front staff is awesome; dental hygienists are gentle, thorough and friendly and the dentists explain everything exceptionally well, and I never feel rushed or pressured. I highly recommend Wood Family Dentistry for your dental health.

Dr. Schicktanz does a great job explaining the steps of the examination and what they are monitoring on the x-rays in a way that’s easy to understand.

Negative experience: Would not recommend. Changing my 5 stars review to 1. I personally had quite a disappointing experience w dr Wood and a family member had a botched root canaln here. (My routine hygenist was great and will be missed)
