Fantastic experience: My husband, daughter, and I are all patients here and we have had a great experience. Our daughter started coming here when she was 2 and they make it so easy with friendly staff and doctors, cartoons in the waiting room and exam room, a giant stuffed dinosaur she can hold (and brush his teeth!) and a goody bag. And the office dog Gracie is always a highlight when she’s there!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Alexis is the best dentist anyone could ever want. She’s kind, patient, reassuring, and so gentle. I hate going to the dentist in general and she is the only dentist I’ve had who makes me feel completely comfortable. Fantastic experience: We love it here! My partner began going when I was pregnant and we wanted to expedite some procedures and get everything in order. We've begun looking forward to going here rather than dread the dentist. The team is professional. Ashley Brockington manages and runs the show here and she's great. She helped us schedule everything in an order that made sense and worked for us. She discussed finances, and has been easily accessible with any questions. Her alone, is the reason we are loyal to this office. She also helped with referrals for oral surgery as-well. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: This practice still continues to be the best. Amazing. Great staff, check up was the most in depth I have ever had. Highly recommended this practice. Negative experience: Office staff very friendly. Very few people in office. Lots of staff, can hear them talking. But I don’t know how many dental areas are in the office. I do know that you wait, and wait, and wait. Then after waiting 45 minutes to see dentist, he said ‘Hello’ and left for an additional 30 minutes. Once Dr Handsome started, he used a gel to numb the gums. Then approached with the syringe to inject the local anesthetic. I HAVEN’T HURT LIKE THAT SINCE I WAS 11 YEARS OLD! That’s when I refused to go back and see our dentist, who painfully injected, did the work, then you got numb on the way home. Dr Handsome doesn’t wiggle your cheek or anything to make the injection easier. I was immediately put back in 11 year old PTSD, something I had never experienced before. When I said something, he became snippy and asked if I wanted the implant or not? I’d already paid him $4000, you bet your life I want that implant! Just wished it was with a compassionate human. Go elsewhere! Money is the only object here and all Anya’s other offices!
Negative experience: Not sure because my 6 month check up went well but not my cavity filling crisis with my cracked tooth as within 24 hours with accidentally flossing as they didn’t tell me anything about not having anything to go near it for flossing then just brushing that I accidentally took a chunk out of the cavity filling while cleaning out my mouth and a partial grey piece of it came out of it as well, so I will probably need to go back for another cavity filling, which sucks for me. The dentist as well left me 3 dots on my left outside of my mouth that I wasn’t sure why that was a bruise for without an explanation.
Fantastic experience: Today I got a crown on a far-back molar -- all in one day. The prep took about 90 minutes, and just a few hours later I was able to get the new crown, created in-office via 3D printing, installed. Super efficient and once again, office staff and Dr. Alexis were welcoming and friendly.

Negative experience: This place stole my money. They’ve owed me a refund of $380 since December for 1. An overcharge 2. A deposit return. I’ve called them NINE times now requesting this refund. Each call they tell me “all set, wait 2 weeks and if you don’t see it let us know”, and every time thus far I’ve waited the 2 weeks and haven’t received it. That’s called stealing. I now have to go through the process of filing a claim against them where I’ll seek the $380 back plus the interest I lost. Quite a shame when medical places take advantage of patients like this. Btw - i was the one who discovered the overcharge, they wouldn’t have told me otherwise. Watch out!

Negative experience: It’s all about the money: I’ve been here once before and had a great experience. Friendly staff, good quality work done on my teeth. After that first visit I had to reschedule 3 times in total over a couple months, all for serious reasons and all well before their requested 48 hour notice window. This last appointment was scheduled for 9am a couple weeks ago. I even received a text message RECEIPT confirming that. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, AS IM DRIVING IN I get an automated text saying it’s at 11…no problem, clearly a mistake or glitch in the computer. Long story short I call and they say that the 9am was never booked and they didn’t know what I was talking about. After some back and forth with the front desk woman who had to ask my info 3-4 times, I finally talked to Victoria the dentist (who was also great the last time we interacted). Victoria basically says the same song and dance and that I can hang around for 2 hours and maybe they can slip me in sooner but no promises, as we’re talking I’m pulling up to the office and she just goes on mute. No problem, I’m 30 seconds from walking in the door. As I walk in I HEAR HER WITH MY OWN EARS BRAGGING about she just hung up on me. She looked me dead in the face and spun on a heal and walked the other way like she didn’t just do that. Then has the nerve to come back and act like I was the one that hung up. Literally can’t make this stuff up. Obvious conclusion here- they’re punishing me for rescheduling and prefer the money of someone else (even though I was preparing to get $6-$7,000 of work done in the near future, I guess that’s not enough. Scheduling mistakes happen, but lying about it and having the nerve to laugh and brag about it tells me how things go on behind the scenes there. Good service the time I went but won’t be back when I can’t trust the people who book or do the work to be honest.
Negative experience: I have always had a positive experience at South Boston Family Dental, but today did a double take with Alyna (unsure if spelling was correct). She did two fillings for me last week, wonderful job, and asked me to reach out if I had issues with my night guard. I did, as there was additional discomfort when I wore it. When I came in today, I told her my experience that the filling was uneven on one side and that a bit of it was sticking out of the back side of the tooth, hence the new tightness with the night guard. Her response was, "no, it's perfect". I trust the dentist's expertise and training, but I also know my body and wouldn't raise it if it weren't an issue. At the very least, the better response would've been, "no worries - let me take a look". But she insisted it was perfect and then proceeded to say, "but if it makes you happy, I'll polish it". I thought this was a very passive aggressive response to a neutral observation or hypothesis that I was offering as a patient. It was very uncomfortable after she said that and I essentially threw up my hands and said, "well, you are the expert, so if you say so". Very, very turned off by this experience. And I'm usually very mellow about most things. I'm worried about seeing her again and being dismissive when I come for future cleanings and checkup.
Fantastic experience: After my first visit to South Boston Family Dental I was truly impressed with the hospitality and professionalism of the staff. Molly, the hygienist made me feel like a regular and did a thorough job taking x-rays and cleaning my teeth. Dr. Anya was also very accommodating and answered any questions I had. I am looking forward to my next visit knowing I will be in very capable hands.

Fantastic experience: My 2.5 year old was fired up for the dentist, and South Boston Family Dental delivered. Our visit was thorough but expeditious. They had a technician and a dr attending to my daughter at the same time, to make sure the job was done without delays - after all, how long can we expect a 2.5 year old to sit there and open wide? Awesome toothbrush and stickers for the kiddo when we were all done. See you in 6 months!

Fantastic experience: A fantastic practice. Thorough, efficient, and so friendly. Everyone from the front desk staff to the dentist were wonderful. I ended up needing a filling and an oral surgery referral. I was out the door in less than an hour with full x-rays, a complete oral exam, full cleaning, an out of pocket estimate for the cost of the filling after insurance, my filling appointment scheduled, my oral surgery referral, and my next biannual cleaning scheduled. They even offered to do the filling the same day if I was available! Highly recommend this group.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr Alexis and the Team here. I came in with one month left on my company dental plan, and had not had a dental cleaning in over ten years. The team made a plan with me to address 7 major issues I had going on and got 5 of them handled within 2 weeks of my first visit. Although I know my teeth and gums were in terrible shape, I never felt judged, but always encouraged by Dr. Alexis and the entire staff. It's been a huge confidence boost!

Positive experience: I used to love this dentist office for my children and used to highly recommend them. Over the past year - it has been increasingly difficult to schedule an appointment (they would only schedule Mass Health pediatric patients on Wednesdays). Now, I try to schedule an emergency visit for my 5 year old and they tell me they stopped providing care to Mass Health patients as of 4/1. No notice was sent, no phone calls were made. This provider just waits for you to call them to tell you essentially that you're not their patient anymore.

Negative experience: Don’t trust a word from anyone. Estimate given was wildly incorrect/they overcharge for anything they could. Scheduled an appointment for work and then they called to reschedule it a few days later. During the appointment the communication and work was sketchy at best. Followed up on the bill countless times never to receive any of the promised calls back (didn’t even expect good news just the news they had received). Can’t take anything they say at face value.

Negative experience: I called this provider and confirmed that my insurance was in network. I went for an annual check up and they recommended that I had my wisdom teeth removed. I requested a quote for how much the procedure would cost and thought it seemed reasonable. I had the procedure performed a couple weeks later and paid what was quoted at the time of the procedure. A few weeks later I received another bill which would make the cost of the procedure more than twice what was originally quoted. When I call the office they tell me that the oral surgeon performing the procedure was actually out of network and that is why it will cost more than the original quote. They said they are going to look into it, sort it out and call me back. They never called me back and just kept sending the bill. I call them back two more times and they tell me the same thing but never call me back. The fourth time I call they just repeat that there is nothing they can do because the oral surgeon is out of network and I will have to pay the bill. They failed to inform me that the specific oral surgeon working at the practice (which is in network?) is not actually in network for my insurance provider. I do not recommend this provider.
Hello Kevin, I am sorry you did not have the utmost experience with our office. Our general dentists are in-network with your insurance, however our specialty doctors are not in network with all insurances. The estimate we had you sign is just a pre-estimate and states right on the form that this is not an exact cost. We don't know exact cost until we bill your insurance. I apologize you were not 100% satisfied but we did everything we could do to provide you with great dental care.

Negative experience: The first time I went here, they told me I was doing everything wrong; upsold me on fancy toothpaste, told me I needed a retainer, said I had 5 cavities. I have never had any issues with my teeth, and only after starting to go to this dentist did I have "issues". I believed them, thinking maybe my old dentist was wrong. I got 2 of the cavities filled right before moving out of Boston. I couldn't eat on the right side of my mouth for months. After being in so much pain, I went to a new dentist who fixed the issue for me, and told me I didn't even need to get that "cavity" filled in the first place, as it wasn't really a cavity yet. She also said the bondings were not put in correctly, which makes sense because the dentist who put it in CLEARLY did not want to be there for my 4pm on a Friday visit and was rushing through the entire procedure. My new dentist also said I didn't have any other cavities, even though South Boston Family Dental said I had 3 others. The people were always nice, but I was getting ripped off. My roommate also went to them and heard the same feedback, even though she also had no issues with her previous dentist (different than mine). Save yourself the trouble, and find a different Boston dentist.

Negative experience: Found this provider through my insurance and when I went to schedule a procedure to remove an abscess from trauma to my inner lip, they were quick to fit me in. I had the procedure done by Dr. Chen within an hour - which did not seem like enough time to be able to check my insurance but I trusted they knew what they were doing. They ran my insurance and told me I would have to pay $80 which I was ok with and signed off on. Unfortunately even after they checked my insurance, my procedure was not covered which I found out a few months later when an $800 bill came in the mail. I called and had multiple conversations with their billing department who were completely unhelpful. I would have went somewhere else if they would have told me it was not covered. Complete scam. Not to mention the abscess came back and I had to get it removed again. Do NOT recommend.

Fantastic experience: What a wonderful experience! Let me tell you why... First off, like everyone who lives in Boston knows, you should take into account traffic when commuting. Unfortunately I did not, and I was a bit late to my appointment, however the dentists still welcomed warmly. The environment was clean and felt sanitary. It was comforting seeing everyone wear a mask and knowing all patients had to get their temp taken before their appointment. Alex at the front desk was very helpful and informative when I had questions about my insurance, my appointment, and future scheduling. Dr. Anya worked on my cavities and and I felt very comfortable being her patient. I have had dentists in the past who do not wait long enough for the Novacaine to fully numb my mouth before starting, Dr. Anya however asked me before beginning if my mouth was fully numb to assure my comfort. It was done quickly and was painless. The only thing I wish I could have changed would be to give more pets to Gracie the office dog! Thanks SBFD!

Negative experience: Absolutely horrible. Do no go here. No one washed their hands. The dental hygienist put gloves on, did her hair and THEN put her hands in my mouth. She picked something off the ground. Didn’t wash her hands and then put gloves on. So unsanitary. The doors between exam rooms are all open so you are literally seeing and hearing everyone else’s exam. No patient privacy. Will not go back. Hope I don’t get sick from being there.

Negative experience: I had a very painful cleaning experience there. First it took them so long to figure out how to work the x tray machine. Then when they were taking pictures from inside my mouth they were not gentle at all and I had to keep re-doing them because I was gagging so much. Then the cleaning took so long and really hurt me. Then they suggested I pay an extra 1000 for some deep cleaning not covered by insurance and scared me that my teeth were going to fall out but I got a second look from another dentist and they said that wasn't true at all. Maybe I got unlucky with the hygienist and dentist I saw but it was an awful experience.
