Positive experience: It was ok. Staff was friendly. It used to be more personal. No one asked about my Invisalign retainers and a need for cleaning or replacement. Check by the doctor seemed impersonal and too quick.

Negative experience: Wish I could give zero stars. I had taken my family member here thy cancelled the appointment 2 days in a row the morning of each day. Said the dentist had a family emergency one day and the next day he was still out. My family member had to miss 2 days of work due to this inconvenience. The dentist couldn’t even finish the filling when my family member was in the back. Then they get a bill for even more money after they paid that day. Totally unprofessional.

Fantastic experience: The dentist was an older man who clearly took his knowledge past only the dental field. He asked questions about my other issues and informed e how some of them might connect. Not only did I feel he took time to understand my situation to the fullest. He took care of my mouth with precision and care! Made sure I wasn’t in any pain, and not once made me feel bad for needing the services in the first place. He was honest and told me how to do better. The assistant was as joyful as the receptionists. Not one negative energy in the building. They all made sure I left better than I came and that I left with no questions unanswered. I come from a family terrified of dentists… I can say that I never thought I’d be excited for the dentist, but every session I’ve had there I knew I was in the best of hands. 100/10

Fantastic experience: They did a great job. My daughter was very nervous and they walked her through the entire thing. My daughter said it was a 10 out of 10. They were very friendly.

Negative experience: There was nothing ...worst dental visit ever. No one seemed to know how to do an X-ray without damaging the gum in my mouth. I told them I couldn't close my mouth without it digging into my gum and cutting into the flesh. Meant nothing. I have an abscess it's making me sick and I show up with an appointment and it needs to be drained- oops too booked to have it done. No meds, no advice, just see ya later! I have insurance and I have a fresh credit card. Nothing. So, I'm still waiting to have this taken care of. I'm afraid they will hurt me more. I'm afraid to trust them. I think I'm cancelling my next appointment. They seemed a little too nonchalant for me.

Positive experience: This visit was actually ho-hum and my whole family had cleaning appointment's. I left without all my teeth feeling slick (most, but not all), not sure all my teeth were flossed or not, but definitely not my bridge, doc didn’t really say much, hummed a lot, but other than “looks good” he was gone before I could ask any questions. Lastly, my wife and kids came out with their toothbrush swag bag except for me. Just wasn’t impressed with this visit, had no desire go back for correction, and undecided if I’ll return for another visit.

Positive experience: Love the convenience and service from this facility. The bedside manner was lacking. After receiving world class service from the hygienist and reception staff the dentist strolled in without a simple hello. No conversation at all. Did his business and rolled out. I’m a a senior hospital administrator and know the medical and dental professions. Sad experience… Otherwise, this facility is top notch!!!

Positive experience: I’m hesitant to put a four star, but the staff was great the hygienist and everyone from the front desk to all the technicians were amazing. But I didn’t appreciate a political conversation going on while my mouth was open by the dentist to the hygienist at the end of my visit. To say it left a bad taste in my mouth is putting it lightly. I would expect a dentist to keep it professional.

Fantastic experience: I was a first time patient and was highly impressed with the technology, friendliness, and experience. Going to the dentist is not my favorite thing to do but they made it completely comfortable.

Negative experience: I was told I had a small spot in between my teeth that would form into a cavity if not treated. Cedar Lakes Dental verified with my insurance provider and informed me of my charges, which I paid prior to leaving. Two months later I receive a bill for additional charges without an explanation. The receptionist left me hold for 12 minutes after leaving two voicemails for explanation. She said as a result of an audit, I owe more. Jenn, the office manager was of no help and unwilling to adjust the charge. Poor customer service all the way around. I wonder how many other customers receive bills after paying on date of service?

Fantastic experience: Excellent dentist office! I used another local dentist for years and was never fully satisfied, but switched to Cedar Lakes this year and am now very happy. The office is immaculately clean, the front desk is prompt, organized, and responsive to inquiries, and all of my appointments have run on time. My hygienists were courteous and each did a thorough cleaning. My most recent visit did not necessitate seeing the dentist personally, but I was offered the opportunity to speak with one if I wished. On my previous visit, I did interact with one of the dentists and felt that she was very professional, thorough, and attentive to my questions. I am very satisfied and highly recommend this dental practice.

Negative experience: The office staff and hygienists were great. I had to wait more than 30 minutes for the dentist to come in. The wait wasn't an issue. I fully understand he was in a procedure, however he could have acknowledged my long wait. After a brief comment on the music the only words he said tome were "open please". He spoke with the hygiene assistant but never another word to me. After a 30 minute wait he was there maybe 3. I was told by the assistant I had multiple cavities. When I asked about them I was told it was a question for the dentist who by now was long gone. When I was given my treatment plan I was asked if the DENTIST had discussed the issues with me. He did NOT. I was shown X-rays by the hygiene assistant I had been told were initially AI interpreted. I have had one minor cavity - and it took nearly 50 years to get it. How In 6 months do I suddenly have four more with no symptoms no signs? I plan to get a second opinion and other options (I have reversed pre cavities previously) before going forward with the treatment plan offered. .

This can be frustrating, especially when dealing with billing or treatment concerns. Fantastic experience: I have always had a fear of the dentist. Rooted from childhood traumas and not easily overcome when only exposed to the dentist a couple times a year. The fear drove me to try different dentists from all over Hampton roads. A different one every time. It just never felt right or comfortable. I’ve settled into Cedar Lakes. One visit and they have me feeling empowered to take control of that fear and are incredibly responsive. I will not be going anywhere else.

Negative experience: I started coming here a few years ago and really liked the staff. All the folks working in the front office area are amazing. They are great at communicating and very welcoming. Unfortunately, about a year ago they changed dentists and hygienists and now I would not recommend coming here. Especially if you have any dental anxiety. The lady I saw was not a warm person and was even worse with kids. I know there's another dentist and I haven't met him so I can't speak on his work.

Fantastic experience: My whole family goes to Cedar lakes Dental. I’ve had a great experience with the doctor and her team with each visit. They made sure I was comfortable with the service and answered any questions I had.

Negative experience: Came in for an emergency visit for extreme pain in my tooth. Given a rx for antibiotics and still left in pain. Was told to use tylenol and motrin, which I had been for 3 days prior (hence why I made an appt, bc that wasn't working). I was told to give it a few more days until the antibiotics kick in, so I'm not looking forward to another 4 days of pain. I wish they would have just extracted the tooth then and there or at least gave me some novacaine or SOMETHING for this pain! Update: 2 days after my appt I started to vomit blood. I went to the ER where they told me no one should be taking the max dose of Tylenol and Motrin for that long (5 days straight). I developed a stomach bleed bc my pain was not taken seriously.

Negative experience: Would not recommend: I went in for a consultation. To have crowns on 4 upper teeth first consultation was fine but then dentist wanted another consult. So what was supposed to be 4crowns turned into removing my teeth partial dentures. And a absolutely unnecessary bone graft.if you are a patient there I would suggest thinking twice

Negative experience: Amazing! As a former Dental Assistant for the US Navy, I was honored to have work done by one of very own! Thank you for one of the best dental visits I’ve ever been on. Your team was professional, and equally personable. I can say with 100% confidence they it was one of the best experiences I’ve had with anesthesia. I felt nothing! Thank you all again, especially my beautiful dental assistant who went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. Thank you! Oh, and they found a way to save me money. Of course I love that lol. Update: That one amazing dentist that I experienced is no longer with this office. After her departure, I was given a new dentist who was absolutely awful. He continued to get upset with me, pull my jaw and act as though he was annoyed by my presence. He was also a veteran, but nothing like the dentist before. When I left that day, I asked that he was never able to be my dentist again. I am convinced he was racist just by the way he looked at me and treated me. Fast-forward, I have an issue with a permanent crown that came off. Although the crown was not installed by them, as a former dental assistant, I understand dentistry. This woman left me waiting for 30 minutes at a time and went on to try to make up a care plan that wasn’t even needed. They tried to charge me $1200 to replace a perfectly stable crown. Telling me that I need a filling on a tooth that I already had a root canal on. And although the crown had been done in the timeframe that would allow a free replacement, they were still trying to charge me $600. All I wanted was for my crown to be reinstalled with permanent cement. I waited so long that I ended up walking out and reinstalling it myself. I am done with this office. I will go somewhere new. The dental assistants and the front desk staff are amazing but the dentist are subpar at best.

Fantastic experience: I went to this facility needing 2 broken teeth fixed. From making my appointment to the visit, I was impressed. When I was told one tooth could only be extracted and the other could be crowded, I kept waiting to be talked into a bridge for the extraction. It was not suggested and the entire cost was better than what I felt it might cost me for the crown alone. I was even offered to do payments if I wanted. It was refreshing to feel I had a group I could trust. I felt this was God directed. I will reccomend this group to others. The staff is professional and compassionate.

Fantastic experience: My wife found this practice after we switched insurance providers. I recently had my first visit and it was a refreshing change of pace. The facility is modern and comfortable, the staff is friendly, efficient and informative. I showed up a few minutes early for the first time paperwork, which was a breeze and didn't wait but a few moments before my hygienist came to get me and begin the appointment.The equipment was started of the art and the hygienist was gentle and thorough. What was cool was the 3D imagining technology that the dentist was able to use to show me what she was seeing and make recommendations Overall rating from this first experience was A+ and I would recommend this practice to anyone.

Negative experience: I was not super happy with my visit this time. Every time I go I see a new hygienist and a new dentist bc there is so much turnover at this practice. I have to explain everything all over again as they aren’t familiar with my case. Plus this time the dentist was hardcore trying to sell me on Invisalign saying I have problems with my bite, when every dentist I’ve ever seen has told me my teeth are nearly perfect!! I’m going to be looking for a different dentist for my family.

Negative experience: Very unprofessional. I'm seventy-four years old and had my first filling at age 6, so I've seen a few dentists. This experience was the worst. I had two visits for a crown replacement. I found the Dr's singing, humming and small talk with the tech while he was working to be off putting and odd. Their discussion of how bad their colds were and how much stuff they were coughing up (while they were both coughing) was likewise inappropriate. As the Dr was drilling to remove the old crown my mouth was filling up with water. The Dr directed the tech to "control the tongue" as my tongue involuntarily tried to prevent me from drowning. I think I pulled a tongue muscle. Second visit for crown placement. Different tech. Dr still singing, humming as he works. Tech makes a comment about it and he explained that he runs half marathons and that during training he needs something to fend off boredom and so sings to himself. Tech then starts to sing her own tunes. Finally crown is glued in place. Of course the glue is terrible tasting stuff and no rinse or suction is offered.

Negative experience: all I wanted was a loose tooth extracted I could’ve actually pulled the tooth myself. It was so loose, but they try to upsell me and charge me all kinds of extra stuff that I did not need total insult to my intelligence ripoffs made to upsell you on everything would never recommend anybody to go to this place. It was a complete waste of time. I pulled my own tooth

Fantastic experience: First time since Dr. Richard relocated, dentist actually looked into my mouth. In the past it was a cleaning by the tech, and off you go. Very pleased.

Negative experience: We were referred to Cedar Lakes Dental through Hanbury Dental which discontinued our insurance. We had two appointments Scheduled for my daughter who is returning back to college and myself at one on August 19 at Ipm I confirmed these appointments three different times and three different ways. The morning of our appointment, we were notified that they had been canceled due to an error in the system. We had to reschedule my daughter who’s overdue for a cleaning till November during her break from Virginia Tech. They were courteous enough to get me in the following day. The hygienist was wonderful, friendly and gentle. I was advised I had a small cavity and a rear tooth and then I may need a crown when it came time to sign the paper for my portion of the bill a $800 root canal was added in and the amount going to be billed to Insurance for standard crown was $200 more than Hanbury Dental which is their sister office and $300 more than R&B comprehensive dentistry. I question the staff as to why a standard crown at this office Was so highly overpriced. I was met with several maybe’s I don’t know’s And that was a question for higher up. We have TRICARE dental and it is extremely difficult to find a Dentist that actually accepts our insurance we were excited about coming to the location, Until we realized we were being taken advantage of. I contacted my own insurance company to question these charges, and they also advise me that they had never been billed that amount for a normal crown, Or even a root canal that was not part of my treatment plan. Normally, these prices only reflect five tier Dentist’s. For example, Konikoff. So when it came time to make my appointment, my answer to the staff was a maybe and then I don’t know. I do recommend this dentist for cleanings but for any other dental work, I’m sure there’s better Offices with more reasonable prices. ALSO UPDATE THIS OFFICE WILL TELL PATIENTS THEY ACCEPT UNITED CONCORDIA BUT THEY ARE NOT IN NETWORK, they bill as out of network to receive the benefits and leave the patient on the hook for the remainder of the bill. Do not confuse them with an actual in-network dentist.
