Fantastic experience: Why I Choose Wolf Family Dentistry The purpose of this review is to share why I choose Wolf Family Dentistry over other dentists in my area. If you’re reading this, you’re likely looking for an honest, helpful review, so here it is. First, ask yourself: why do you need a dentist? Is it because you’ve made a decision to start taking better care of your teeth? In my case, that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I’m not saying I’ve been perfect, but ever since I started coming here, I’ve been much more vigilant and conscious of my dental health than with any dentist I’ve seen before. There is zero judgment here. They will give you helpful information if you ask for it—as long as you’re open to receiving it. Even when they give advice, they never try to condemn you, beat you down, or make you feel horrible when you leave. Their feedback is always constructive and motivating. So, why stay? I stay because these people have truly become like family to me. I was a patient at their original Altoona location over by Hy-Vee, which was very nice, and their new building is even better. Everything is exceptionally clean and orderly, and the staff is always courteous and kind. They have a solid process and stick to it. It’s a very family-oriented practice where you can bring everyone—even though it says "Pediatric" on the wall, it says "Family" right underneath it, so parents can go there too! I also stay because the quality of care is outstanding. I never leave with a sore mouth from someone being too rough with flossing or scraping. I used to suffer from a sore, swollen mouth after dental visits, but I realized why: It wasn't all them- I wasn’t flossing before my appointments. If your mouth hurts for the rest of the day after a visit, it’s often because you didn't do the prep work in the weeks or months leading up to it—so don’t take that out on the staff unless they were genuinely heavy-handed. That is never an issue here at Wolf Family Dentistry.If you’re a Coffee /Tea drinker- same idea applies, do the work What I appreciate most is that they never push unnecessary procedures on you. I’ve been to several places where you walk out thousands of dollars in debt because they pressured you into expensive treatments, whitening, or braces whatever . I’ve never had that problem with Dr. Patrick and his team. Honestly, they have some of the best hygienists in the entire state. My teeth never feel rough when I leave. They take their time, thoroughly inspect every single tooth, take necessary X-rays, and do everything exactly as it should be done. That’s my review. Go there, see if I’m right, and if I am, I know you’ll leave a great review too. There’s no reason not to!

They explained everything clearly and were very gentle during the exam. It’s such a relief to find a dental office that’s so good with kids. Highly recommend!

My son has a hard time with his gage reflex and isn’t able to lay clear back in the chair. Dr Zach does a wonderful job accommodating his needs! Every hygentist we have had has been so kind and really makes the cleaning process so easy and fun for my son!

Fantastic experience: Another wonderful visit to the dentist... I cannot recommend this dental practice enough! From the moment you walk in, the environment is clean and welcoming, but the real stars are Dr. Wolfe and Kadi. The hygienist, Kadi, is absolutely incredible. She is gentle, thorough, and attentive. My teeth always feel so clean when leaving! Dr. Wolfe is equally amazing. He is highly professional, knowledgeable, and has a wonderful bedside manner. They never rush through the appointment and they treat me like family. Fantastic experience: We had a dentist out in Ankeny that showed they had only paychecks in my mind and not the children’s dental health so we decided to change her dentist to here and we have 0 regrets making the change they had so much fun stuff for my kiddo to play with while waiting and in the dentist room is more to play stuff. They fully looked thru her teeth did amazing with her. 100% recommend bringing your babes here! After there visit there give two coins to go get a prize out there coin machines. She got a pokemon & a capybara from the coin machines. She was so happy. The dentist is Amazing. Thanks for the amazing experience

Fantastic experience: I recently switched dentists to Altoona Pediatric Dental, and they have been amazing from the very first phone call. When I initially called to schedule the appointment, the staff member was incredibly kind. You could literally hear the smile in her voice. I was working at the time and asked if I could call back later, and she was so understanding and flexible. That does not always happen, but she truly made it work. When we arrived for the appointment, the entire team continued to be just as helpful and supportive. They were very understanding that my daughter struggles a bit more than other kids to settle down, and they handled the situation with so much patience and care. They were able to help her, make her comfortable, and get everything scheduled as quickly as possible. I truly appreciate everything they did for us. I will forever recommend this location to anyone looking for an amazing pediatric dental office.

Fantastic experience: Our son had a freak accident in the brutal cold knocking out/chipping 3 front teeth. Altoona Pediatrics saw him the next day; sent him to a specialist to prep the teeth all in the same day. The next day Dr. Pat did a cap and you would never know the tooth was damaged!! Our kids have been doing their routine check ups here for their entire lives.

Fantastic experience: My kids LOVED this dentist office!The staff was friendly and the dental assistants were so nice and acted in a way that “fit” each of my kids ages. My kids were all very comfortable and loved the TVs above them to watch what they wanted.And one point, my 4 year old actually said,”This is so fun!” Dr. Zach was very nice and reassuring and used words that the kids could understand rather than only talking to the parents. The waiting room is tons of fun with a room that has a projector on the ceiling, casting games on the floor and arcade games! They are sad that we can’t go back until May. I’m so glad that we found this dentist! I highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: We LOVE Dr. Zach. He is so good with both my kiddos (7&5). My littlest had a pretty big procedure and had to be put under and he still was excited to come back to the dentist. They made sure to make him feel safe and well taken care of. Dr. Zach always explains every single detail of any treatments needed, and I love how he explains what’s going on a second time to each kid in a way they understand. I’m so glad I switched dental providers.

Having a young toddler and a child who is low-functioning, it is a great peace of mind to know they are efficient and thorough, always making notes and being prepared for their needs each time, but also a safe space for my boys. We would recommend them time and time again!

Negative experience: I would give zero stars if I could. Since Dr. Jen passed this office has gone down hill. From the new doctor having no skills or bedside manners with children, to the two incompetent women that work the front desk and ALWAYS struggle with scheduling or payments, I'm fed up. At one point one of my children got completely forgotten about (partially my fault, I admit) for 2 years and then they tried to tell me when I figured it out that I couldn't just make an appointment for her because she would be considered a new patient and they weren't taking new patients. My kids ONLY have ever been to this dentist! They also tried to tell me that because she was 17 she had to go somewhere else because this is a PEDIATRIC dentist. What?? Last I knew 17 is considered still a child according to... *Checks notes* literally everyone in the US. Not to mention, my kids have Hawk-i/state insurance and are covered straight through to the day before their 19th birthday, so explain how that makes sense to drop kids at 17 years old??? I hate this dentist. The only people worth a damn here are the hygienists and the people that do the x-rays. We haven't had a pleasant or smooth visit since early 2020. Maybe spend less money on video games and more money training your doctor how to cope with kids and your receptionists on how to use your scheduling and payment software.

Negative experience: Good until they decided to just go a different route and then say instead of 4 teeth that needed done is now 8 teeth. Mind you they were only in the office with my daughter for maybe 20 minutes then came out and said well it's 8 teeth... you NEED surgery immediately, ON AN AUTISTIC 4 YEAR OLD MOUTH, insurance won't cover it so here is what is going to cost, it's also in another town almost an hour away, and it's only on Fridays... oh and the cherry on top is the surgery is 2 to 4 hours of being under and the parents aren't allowed to be back there when it happens.... They DIDN'T even look over the referral paperwork my daughter's dentist had me send in which states there is only 4 teeth, and I trust them more since you know they were actually digging around in her mouth longer than 20 minutes PLUS they suggested a non invasive approach which yes down the road in a couple years when my 4 YEAR (FOUR) OLD is old enough to where the surgery option isn't so traumatic. I went here to this place because of the reviews and word of mouth from people I know... I WILL NEVER TRUST DOING THAT AGAIN... I will also be calling them and other places to get more opinions and MAKE sure that the original dentist's suggestions are meet... HORRIBLE FIRST IMPRESSION.

Positive experience: My son had his tooth pulled today, based on their recommendation to do so and he was very scared. I didn’t really feel like they did a good job putting him at ease. My husband said they were even a little rude to him because he was crying and loud because of his fear. I also didn’t think they explained anything, just rushed out and that was it. I left with a lot of questions and no answers. Update - we had our 6 month appointment and we had a good experience today. The doctor was patient and understanding when my son was scared after the last experience and it was a better day!

Fantastic experience: I arrived five minutes early and they had me in the room right away. Dr Pat does a great job numbing areas to be worked on. Didn't feel the needle at all. Work was quick and I was out the door. Nice visit.

Fantastic experience: Always a great experience for my kids and I. They are always on top of getting them the care they need. They are also always so welcoming to us and make us feel comfortable. I struggle with trusting dentists but I'd trust them any day of the week! My youngest just got an oral surgery done and I knew I had nothing to worry about with her in their hands! Highly recommend and will continue to use their services till my kis are adults. We drive 45 minutes and I can safely say the drive is worth the care.
