Timber Dental East Burnside

Fantastic experience: Just moved to Portland and got established with a new Dentist here. Loved the clinic, very friendly and professional staff! Rose was amazing and explained everything very thoughtfully and was super efficient. They took lots of imaging and the dentist was very thorough and honest with his review, made a plan immediately, and got referrals written up right away. My work schedule is a little weird and they were super polite and happy to accommodate for my cleaning appointment!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic service as to be expected at Timber Dental. This location is relatively new to me but it felt familiar in that the staff was very kind and friendly, check in/out was super convenient, and the service provided was great!

Positive experience: This is my first visit to Timber Dental East Burnside because my dentist closed their practice. I was treated very well. when I go to the dentist I get anxiety. Dr. Anna Nguyen was great. She is so soothing and got me thru the appointment. Thank you Dr. A Nguyen.

Fantastic experience: Everyone was friendly and professional and efficient; hygienist and dentist were gentle and thorough and answered all my questions. The office was clean and well organized, so I can find no fault with Timber Dental! I've been back twice - once to have a broken tooth extracted and an implant process started and once for my second checkup and cleaning. The dentists and staff members are all wonderful, so I highly recommend them!

Negative experience: I would not recommend this practice for elective cosmetic treatment. Enamel was removed from my lower teeth prior to aligner therapy without any review of projected outcomes.

Fantastic experience: Excellent choice if you have a history of dental trauma (background: I experienced a lot of dental work in my childhood and preteens with a few anesthesia mishaps and shaming over pain/cavities/braces). Dr Nguyen was kind, efficient, and thorough in her explanations of care. Melissa and Jamie were equally attentive and gentle; I really felt like everyone was there because they care about dental and patient health. They ask on the intake form about level of nerves, which they demonstrated sensitivity to at all stages of the visit.. Even though I was scheduled for just an initial exam (bitewings/xrays, dental habits, plan of care, etc), they were able to fit in my first cleaning round immediately! There's a parking garage, which is such a plus given the area (street parking would've been a nightmare). Appreciate they have Netflix to help with distraction. Overall, I had a great experience. Fantastic experience: I cracked a tooth at night and they were able to schedule me next day. Dr. Nguyen explained very clearly what options I had, talked me through next steps and helped lay out a treatment plan. The hygienist Reina was also very friendly, professional, and worked quickly and efficiently. They were up front about billing and got consent at each step before moving on. Overall A+ experience, they helped me through a scary issue and I left feeling much better!

Fantastic experience: LOU IS THE BEST DENTAL HYGIENIST EVER!!!!!!! not even exaggerating, i love Lou. this office is very nice, they always have plenty of availability and its clean and professional.

Fantastic experience: I had a lovely experience here. Melissa really took the time to make sure I was comfortable and well informed regarding each step of my new patient appointment. They were able to accommodate a same-day cavity filling and schedule me for a cleaning within two days. Dr. Nguyen was also very kind and made me feel at ease. Fantastic experience: My hygienist Jaime was great & gentle. I hadn’t been to the dentist in 5 years (oops). Glad I chose Timber since they took care of me. Teeth are very clean now. Woohoo!

Positive experience: Seems like I had a brand new dental hygienist who was very unsure of the process and steps. Imagining took over 40 minutes. The dentist was frequently visibly and audibly annoyed with this hygienist, which added to the awkwardness. There’s room for more training and possibly testing hygienists before having them work individually. New hygienist appointments should be longer and disclosed to the patient. Now I have to come back in for my cleaning, since I didn’t have a two hour appointment block set. Other hygienist was nice and very sweet but needed more support to do her tasks, which is hard on everyone, including the dentist, the patient, and dental hygienist. Also seems like they do root canals but referred me out, which is confusing. I was hoping there could be another dental provider on staff that I could see but that was not given as an option, which could be due to insurance… PS: not sure why the owners responded the way they did unless it’s an auto-response, bc it did not meet my expectations and that should be apparent if you read the review…

Fantastic experience: tl;dr: Painless root canal, 5/5. I had to go in for a root canal in December, and Doctor Dar got it done in about 90 minutes, painlessly! I was terrified going in, but thanks to him and his skilled assistants, it went smoothly and is healing nicely. Thank you Doctor!

Negative experience: I agree with the bad bedside manner. Dr. Nguyen acted like a bull in a China shop when he accused my orthodontist of moving my teeth too rapidly, claiming it was the reason my teeth roots were too short. That wasn’t the case, as it took nearly three years to complete. I could only think she said this because they hadn’t caught it before, I went to them previously before switching insurance and mentioned another dentist caught this.She proceeded to chastise me for not having my wisdom teeth out and told me she wanted to bring in another dentist. She said she couldn’t even do the exam because she felt the pockets were too deep. I felt embarrassed and somewhat ashamed after the visit. I hope that her approach will change after receiving this review. Unfortunately, I have already paid for a deep cleaning (you have to pay upfront before the service), and now that I have time to reflect, I wish I hadn’t, because I would have gone elsewhere.

Negative experience: I never had the experience what I had today Dr Dar did a root canal and couldn’t complete the procedure because he injected a needle into my gum and it caused severe pain to my head and ear I had root canal before but nothing like this. He stopped the procedure and told me to come on 11/26/ Right after i did the review , i I got a text message from his office that they are going to cancel the appointment and refer me to another endodontist. I went to Dr. Nunez and i had no issue. I will never go back to him . Half my face including my eyes were purple, blue and black. And my under eye is still black.It is over 2 months now.

Fantastic experience: Incredible experience with my same day emergency root canal. Dr Afshar & Rose took excellent care of me during some of the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. Dr. Afshar was professional, transparent & made me feel at ease. The staff & energy at Timber Dental on Sandy was the best experience I’ve had at a dental office and I’m happy to be a new client!

Today, I went in for an appointment expecting to be nervous the entire time, but instead, something completely different happened. From the moment Melissa started my exam, a huge part of my anxiety disappeared. She was absolutely outstanding. She took photos, explained everything with clarity and patience, and delivered information in a way that made me feel safe, informed, and actually hopeful. She was gentle, careful, and incredibly communicative from start to finish. For the first time ever in a dental office, I felt like I fully understood what was happening and why. Then I met Dr. Anna Nguyen, who immediately jumped in with the same level of dedication and transparency. Dr. Anna Nguyen and Melissa worked together seamlessly to create the best dental plan I’ve ever been given. They even referred me to a trusted clinic for my extraction, something I’ve avoided for years because of fear and uncertainty. One of the most important things I want to share is this: in the past, I’ve been handed dental plans but felt so discouraged that I never followed through. This was the first time in my life that I walked out to the reception desk and booked everything I needed. That alone speaks volumes about how supported and understood I felt. I’ve carried a lot of complicated dental memories since childhood, but after today, I truly wish Melissa and Dr. Anna Nguyen had been part of my journey all along. I’m genuinely excited for this next chapter, and I want this team to know how much their approach, their kindness, and their expertise mean to me. Fantastic experience: These guys are great .. plain spoken about what's needed and explaining options .. you don't feel like you're being railroaded one way or another. Best thing is they're fluent in the ways of insurance and getting the most out of it.

Fantastic experience: Edit: My dentist was changed and I had seen this new dentist a second time, he does not have great bedside manners and was very dismissive of my concerns. The front desk was helpful though, they were able to change my dentist and they are having the other dentist review my dental records. The front desk deserves recognition for being so nice about all this! My dental hygienist Jamie was awesome! I've seen her a few times at my bi-annual dental cleanings and she has always been informative and welcoming. I sometimes have a fear of getting anything dental related done but she makes me feel comfortable and at ease.

They give entertaining ‘flight attendant’ talks giving me new knowledge about oral health. Everyone is super friendly. Negative experience: First experience with a general dentist not ran by the county due to me transitioning from Medicaid to paying for my own insurance and lets just say worst experience nothing i hate more then being rushed . Time management sucked and definitely feel like the DA was laying her pressure of being without one hygienist and probably over booked and over worked which is absolutely not my problem and she was not rude by far but definitely stressed and as much as she tried to give the nice professionalism the 15 years of doing this a-lot was showing and the patience was not there . Coming from a last semester dental assistant student by the way appreciate the experience of showing me what not to do or how to avoid these traits

Fantastic experience: I have had a fear of dentists since my teens. I wore braces for 8 years and have had a number of teeth pulled or drilled and filled unnecessarily. During covid my holistic dentistry changed the direction of their practice, leaving me reluctantly looking. I've been to timber dentistry twice and am treated with care and respect. We have conversations about the health of my teeth and they genuinely listen and offer reassurance. Such a relief!

Positive experience: Two years ago I gave the clinic 5 Stars but the quality of care has gone down significantly. The TLDR: There is no consistency of care, staff doesn't care about anxiety, sensitivity, or financial concerns. Be prepared to advocate hard for yourself. There is no consistency in care. The last several times I've been in, everyone is new. They don't read my chart and so I have to explain, every time, that I have extreme dental anxiety and sensitivity. Most of the time this is met with impatience and annoyance. They are also quick to recommend treatments and don't take financial impact into consideration. I was recently told that getting two crowns would "ONLY be $600" out of pocket, as though that is an immaterial amount that an average person would be delighted to spend on dental work. I told them I would need to save up for that and they then proceeded to call me multiple times to try to schedule me. (At my most recent appointment the new to me dentist decided to remove the crowns from my treatment plan as he disagreed with the previous dentists assessment.) I will say the clinic is clean, bright, and generally runs on schedule. I also enjoy the TVs on the ceiling. I just wish I could develop a patient relationship with a hygienist and dentist so I didn't feel like a new patient every appointment, despite going there for years.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with Dr Nguyen and staff. I had gone to see a dentist last week with a toothache. He missed that I had a serious issue and sent me home with an antibacterialrinse. I had an infection under an old crown and ended up at Timber where Dr Nguyen diagnosed an abscess. They got me an appointment with an endodontist for the next day. I'll be sticking with Dr Nguyen as my dentist.

Fantastic experience: What a professional and compassionate office! I chose Timber Dental from a provider list my health insurance company sent me. I chose them because they had language translating services in 6-7 languages, and they also called out that they accommodate the disabled. I am not foreign or disabled, but I liked how inclusive Timber Dental seems to be. My hygienists are expert and Dr. Dar is very intelligent, funny, and has a very positive attitude. Plus he really knows his stuff! I am happy to have my teeth worked on here, they are gentle and have all the cutting edge technology. I got in quickly and I’ve had nothing but an amazing experience. Fantastic experience: Have only visited once, but Dr. Vaugh was kind and explanatory. Lou was a stand-out hygienist. Funny, approachable, took a lot of time to explain things. Sometimes I get a cleaning and I feel like I just paid someone to brush my teeth for me, but Lou was extensive with the cleaning.

Negative experience: I paid alot of money, I was in serious pain which shot my blood pressure up and denied the emergency extraction. gave a few pain pills, and a referral for an expensive oral surgeon I can not afford. Here I am in pain still but at They are worried about my blood pressure for the extraction. Well I still have High blood pressure when I my tooth flares up. Yes Protocols, standard, on and on, the bottom line is I have been myself in the medical field for 30 years and this situation was the perfect example, of those who just dont care! Have a great day. Negative experience: I have never left a review in my life but had the kind of experience where you just have to. I’ve been going here for 3 years and usually have a fine experience but today I waited for 30+ minutes just to see a hygienist and then almost immediately they had another patient to see. I felt rushed and moved along which I honestly understood and empathized with until… The hygienist’s assistant went to polish my teeth and she had the nerve to tell me “my breath smelled garlicky” and asked me what I had for lunch and then proceeded to wait for my answer as if that wasn’t an insane thing to say. Honestly really disappointed with my experience because I love my hygienist but if I didn’t have insurance and had to pay for that out of pocket I would’ve refused. Hoping this was just symptom of late in the day appointment - so word of advice get an early appointment.

Fantastic experience: Favorite dentist so far! They take great care to make sure you’re comfy and don’t try to hassle you about treatments or whitening like I’ve had before. TVs on the ceiling is such a nice touch and I am so happy with my cleanings!

Fantastic experience: I hate going to the dentist, but the care team at timber dental made me feel so safe and comfortable. Rose especially was so kind and empathetic- they continuously checked in with me to make sure I was comfortable, from asking if I liked my seating position to clearly letting me know what to anticipate as we took X-rays. They were non judgmental and extremely respectful of my bodily autonomy and I really appreciated that ♡

Negative experience: I had a difficult and painful experience. I saw Dr Vogelsang in summer 2023. I went in for xrays and a new patient exam. I had regularly been going to my previous dentist in the years prior. She insisted that I had several cavities that needed fillings, so I scheduled those. During the appointment for the first 2 fillings something went wrong, and she and the hygienist clearly responded to something being amiss to each other, but never explained it to me. When I was leaving the hygienist told me that I should make sure to take Advil before the numbing wore off, that I would need it. I've never needed to do this for any prior filling, even as a child. The gums around the filling stayed painful and inflamed until I could come back in, several weeks later. I needed to take Advil every day and even with that I couldn't chew on that side of my mouth. I was always in pain from it. She never explained what happened, and whatever it was that they did in that same area the second time was painful enough that, even with the numbing, I was tearing up while she were working on my teeth. My tears were not acknowledged, and I was not asked if I wanted to take a break. I asked what happened and she or the hygienist said that sometimes things happen and they just need to be fixed. I'm still not sure what that "thing" was that happened with my tooth and gums. When I found a new dentist and had my Timber Dental xrays sent over, he asked me if the xrays were taken before or after the fillings, since there weren't any cavities that he would have considered a filling necessary at that stage, which made me wonder if all of this pain was for a small cavity that could have continued to be watched, if Timber Dental had had the same policies about that which my previous and current dentist have. Don't go there. This experience really caused me anxiety around the dentist, and I am grateful that my new dentist is kind and caring and puts me at ease. It wasn't until I recently needed a filling done by my current dentist, and it all went easily and I had zero pain after the numbing wore off, that I truly recognized that what happened to me at Timber Dental wasn't right and that I should have had better care and an explanation for whatever the issue was. I don't like writing a bad review, but my hope is that I can help someone else to avoid this.

Fantastic experience: Best dental office I have ever been to. The people that work here are simultaneously professional, competent, and entirely relatable. From the front desk staff to the dentists, it's a good experience. I could not recommend my dental hygienest Lou any higher. She is fun to hang out with, which diffuses any anxiety I might have, and she has taught me so much. Fantastic experience: I had an excellent experience and I’m so glad I chose this place. I have a lot of anxiety about dentists and had been procrastinating on going for an embarrassingly long time, but I called them yesterday and they were able to get me in today. Everybody was great and took excellent care of me. They were mindful of my levels of anxiety and were always mindful of how I was feeling. They quickly identified the issue I was having with one of my teeth and were able to take care of it same-day. To ease my anxiety they provided me with nitrous oxide while performing the procedure, and the novocaine shots and drilling were all gentle and pain free. The office itself is great too. It’s modern and comfortable, and they offer a number of amenities, including a ceiling-mounted TV which I took full advantage of, watching old episodes of Arrested Development while they were taking 3D scans of my teeth. And importantly, they answered all of my questions, were very transparent with the entire process, showing me imaging results and being clear about steps along the way. Update: just had my latest dental cleaning and I remain happy! Sandra and Jaime took excellent care of me.

Negative experience: We visited this dental office in December and January. I want to start off with initial gratitude for the Office’s quick service and kind staff, particularly Hannah, Alexa (or Alexis), and Rose, who helped ease nerves and were extremely kind. However, I was disappointed with Dr. Dar Afshar, more specifically his lack of communication, professionalism, and care. Despite filling out a survey mentioning high levels of fear and preferred pronouns, Dr. Afshar appeared to disregard this information or did not bother to check. During a root canal, there was little explanation of procedures, and the doctor displayed aggressive behavior when things went wrong. Additionally, aftercare instructions were vague, leading to confusion and pain for the my partner, who left in tears on two occasions. I believe we had a VERY poor experience with patient care at this dental clinic, specifically from Dr. Afshar. I was so shocked and upset with the way my partner was treated and this level of lack of care is not something I have ever experienced or witnessed until now. All other staff were so kind and helpful.

Fantastic experience: Lou is the best Hygenist out there, Dr Loutaya is also very kind and gentle. Adrianna was my assistant and they’re fabulous and easy to talk to. Thanks Timber Dental! I won’t go to any other dentist ever!

Negative experience: bad bedside manner - I’ve been told my teeth aren’t that straight and that I’ll be ugly if I don’t wear a night guard. They tried to sell me straightening options multiple times when I had expressed I was not interested (my teeth are pretty straight!). My new dentist has great bedside manner and even genders me correctly. I will note I used to go to the Timber Dental in North Portland, that one is much much better.

Fantastic experience: Heavenly put me at ease from the moment I walked through the door. I felt like she prioritized my comfort the entire appointment. Lou was one of the best hygienists I've ever worked with. She was laid back, funny, and explained my condition better than anyone else ever has. Plus, we got to bond over a shared love of Dropout's Game Changer!

Fantastic experience: The staff were incredibly friendly and communicative. New patient intake went quickly and my first cleaning at Timber Dental was pleasant as they played the Great British Baking Show on the ceiling!

Fantastic experience: Jamie and the team were so awesome! I’ve had rough hygienists at dentists in the past, and Jamie took time to hear me about my tooth sensitivities and fears, and made the appointment/cleaning go so smoothly and gently. I’m looking forward to seeing Jamie again next time and am not worried at all about going back to the dentist. :)

Fantastic experience: Dr. Van did the implant crown for me and it looked very natural. Dr. Van was very gentle and explained the procedure nicely. Very professional. All the dental assistant and manager were very nice and friendly!

Fantastic experience: I really don’t like the dentist a whole lot. I REALLLY don’t like the dentist’s when I know I’m getting a broken wisdom tooth pulled. The staff were super attentive and they made me feel comfortable knowing I was nervous. The extraction was painless and fast. Next time I won’t wait as long knowing that Timber Dental’s staff will take care of me.

Positive experience: I’ve become more hesitant to go to the dentist; the sensory experience is a lot and it has started to make me feel nauseous when i have cleanings :( HOWEVER! Jamie my hygienist was very responsive to my pain sensitivity, and tried to provide me options to make it less awful. Additionally, when I was checking out with Holly, they offered to make a note in my chart that I experienced a lot of sensitivity and to not use the (i think electric?) instruments for teeth cleaning going forward. They were both empathetic, understanding, and offered helpful suggestions for how to not be as uncomfortable. they were also very efficient which i appreciated, especially since my first visit here lasted 3 hours. thank you both!!

Fantastic experience: I went to Timber Dental with the worst tooth pain I’ve experienced. Not only did they get me in for a same-day examination, the staff, Dr. Afshar and Melissa shifted their schedules to do a same-day root canal and temp crown. Dr. Afshar and Melissa gave top notch care, checking in with me often during the prodecure to make sure everything was going well. I can’t say enough about the level of care that Dr.Afshar and the staff at Timber Dental provided me.

Fantastic experience: I switched to Timber about a year ago for my regular care about a year ago and have had great experiences. I woke up this week with unexpected pain and I was able to get in for an emergency appointment next day. The front desk was so helpful with scheduling and Ella and Dr. Jackson were gentle, kind and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: I’m a dental chicken, so it when I say it was actually a pleasant experience, I mean it. Everyone at Timber was so friendly and thoughtful. I have extra bones in my mouth that usually make X-rays extremely painful, but Heavenly was a genius and found a way to make it pain-free. Dr. Dar was honest, professional, and did an excellent job explaining my options without pressure. And Jamie made sure my teeth were cleaned, and polished, so that I left feeling better about my dental health. I cannot recommend them more highly.

Negative experience: Ok….so Timber Dental popped up while looking for dental resources, and when I spoke to someone on the phone, they told me that I could get a screening done as a first client and since I saw the info online. I felt relieved as I was going to get answers finally (I’m uninsured) and when I showed up, they said I had to pay. It was absolutely devastating as I could have looked for another resource in the mean time, but instead I got stuck with this appointment at the end of the day for no reason. Very disappointed and they left me feeling hopeless.

Fantastic experience: Dr Martin was wonderful! I felt welcome and very comfortable even though I am not a fan of dentist offices. Happy to have found a great space and will probably be more likely to go when I should because of this great experience.

Fantastic experience: I moved to Portland in 2011, and since that time I've found it difficult to select a Dentist that I would want to keep revisiting. I gave Timber a shot because my partner goes to them, and I've been very happy with the results! Dr. Castro fixed a crown that was in poor shape (from a different previous Dentist), and did such an amazing job that I kept coming back! I'll warn you that Dentists seem to come and go pretty frequently, but the hygienists are your "constants" and have all been lovely and great. In particular I'm very fond of Lou as they not only have the "confident-but-gentle" touch that keeps your teeth clean without making them hurt, but also that dry Portland sense of humor that makes you feel welcome :) I recommend checking them out, and ask for Lou if they're available!

Fantastic experience: This is an outstanding dental office. I was able to get my father in same day for urgent need. Everyone was professional and kind and went out of their way to meet our needs. It takes a lot to impress me, and I was impressed!!

Fantastic experience: I experienced an outstanding dental visit! The technician was efficient, professional and kind. The dentist was excellent. He performed a thorough exam and x-ray review, and showed me his concerns with color photos and the other imaging studies performed that day. I did not feel that I was being "up-sold" for procedures that might not be necessary. The team also went out of their way to perform my dental cleaning the same day that they saw me as a new patient. I will definitely be returning, as well as referring patients to them. While they are not open on weekends, they do take emergency cases, which is a nice addition to our community. Thanks to the team at Timber Dental on Burnside and Sandy Blvd!

Fantastic experience: Paige and Melissa did a fantastic job today cleaning my teeth, giving me dental care information, taking xrays and applying fluoride. I always have a pleasant experience at Timber and never have to wait more than a few minutes to be called back for my appointments. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable and experienced and I would recommend Timber Dental to my friends!
