Experiencia negativa: DISHONEST BUSINESS I'm a Berkeley student and went to here for filling as they declared they're in-network provider. I paid 178 out of pocked and they told me it's all for filling materials. Later that day I asked for the billing statement which include D0220 ($55 Intraoral x-ray), D0230 ($41, one more x-ray) D0140 ($160 bucks Limited Evaluation) D2335 ($328 bucks for the acutal filling, Anterior Resin Composite) - - I was not told by anyone that limited evaluation would cost 160, and I only got ONE x-ray image instead of TWO. I waited for one week or so for my insurance claim. My insurance claim showed that Total Health submitted $29 for D220 $74 for D0140. Having collected these information, I wrote an email to dispute the charge: 1. I only have one x-ray instead of 2. 2. I was not told onsite for 160 bucks limited evaluation. 3. Why the insurance claim is different from the billing statement I saw from Total Health has provided. I got their reply several hours later, and THEY PROVIDED A TOTALLY DIFFERENT billing statement and trying to be innocent saying "We are not sure what you are referring to in regards to your email". Evetually I got my refund $92.4 per their new billing statement on the same day I sent my dispute. I have nothing to complain about the filling quality, at least for now, but you should be careful for what you've been charged for here. I'm not 100% sure, but I do feel/they give me the feeling that they are dishonest business. Because they didn't automatically provide a new billing statement and refund me until I sent my dispute to them. I've attached two billing statement sent by them, before and after.

Yesterday I was in for a cleaning, Dr. Jessica (Harper and Quinn's Mom, is the absolute tops with gentleness and caring along with her excellent Staff, the experience with Diane the Dental Hygenist is like going to visit with your buddy and catching up on the family, she is the greatest and my teeth love her. From entrance to exit is one that must be experienced to be appreciated. Thank you so much for being there. You always make my day!!

Experiencia fantástica: Updating for my most recent visit on 02/09/26 - had another excellent visit with Diane and dentist Jessica. Excellent care and treatment. I had a cleaning and got xrays done for my teeth. They found a small cavity and I am going to get that treated next month. Jessica is always thorough and Diane is very careful with my teeth. One thing - the office has changed the front room there and I am not happy about that - there are not enough seats and I don't like how they changed up the front reception space. It is not done with clients in mind. Previously there were more chairs for clients and enough seats and now there are not enough seats for clients to sit down at. I also think that the front desk does not look appropriate for staff - not enough space for them to work. I am not sure why they made this change and it does not work at all if there is more than one person in the lobby.

When I was unemployed a few years ago and had to rely on government-provided healthcare, while the medical caregivers were absolutely exemplary and wonderful, the dentists on that plan suggested I needed treatments totaling thousands of dollars. When I came back to THD in Berkeley, I asked about what was recommended previously by the Medi-Cal dentists, and they said, “No, your teeth are perfectly fine. You didn’t need any of those treatments.” Honesty has value to me.

More than happy to keep my business here for the foreseeable future.

Experiencia fantástica: When I first arrived, I met a very knowledgeable and kind young lady named Chusang. Immediately I felt at ease. Throughout she guided me through everything that was to occur the first day. Then I was taken into a room and Sophia checked me out, took X-rays, and cleaned my teeth so perfectly! She was thorough as well as gentle. Like the entire staff, she was funny and kind as well. Then Dr Jessica came in and I can’t say enough positive things about her. This experience has been amazing in comparison to any other dental office, I have visited. I would highly recommend this office! ( I don’t see me going anywhere else). They didn’t tell me I needed $10,000 worth of work. They just showed me the things that needed to be fixed, explained everything, and I am very pleased. They also offer their own plan besides my dental insurance, and it’s wonderful! Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Experiencia fantástica: Far and away the best dental office I've been lucky enough to find. I've got a mouth full of disaster, have required extensive work to get me just out of the red. The entire staff has always been nothing less than incredibly kind and thoughtful, going out of their way to make me feel comfortable when I'm at my most embarrassed and uncomfortable. Dr. Ngo is exceedingly talented and thorough, I don't know how but she manages always to take as much time as it takes so that I leave informed but not intimidated. By every measure, I can't rate their office highly enough, if you're looking for a new dentist or have a dental emergency this is a fantastic, expert practice.

Experiencia positiva: I've been a patient with Total Health for 4/5 years now. I've had a lot of ups and downs with them, mostly with communication with the admin. The only aspect that has kept coming me back and from switching to a different provider is the wonderful dental assistant Diane. Throughout my time, Diane has gone above and beyond in many ways. She really takes the time to get to know you, to provide you with extra tips to help your concerns, and makes you feel taken care of. If I wasn't moving out of the area I would definitely stay with Total Dental just to keep seeing Diane

Fast and efficient, with lots of appointment reminders and followup I almost never have to wait (or flake on my own appointment ;) Diane has been doing my cleanings and she gets right to business while also asking about my family and even remembers where my kid goes to school :) gentle but thorough, she'll entertain you with chatter the whole time if you like, or happily let you put your headphones on a tune out. Chusang at reception makes sure my forms and insurance are sorted and my next appointment is scheduled before I'm even out of the chair, which I can easily reschedule through the site, app, text or phone any time, so I can leave as soon as I'm out of the chair! All the best technology combined with a caring and patient team that provide a safe and comfortable environment! I've been going here for years and they always take great care :) (I'm super hard on my teeth and had a lot of work done!) Their free evaluation includes detailed X-rays and 3D high-res scans that show every detail and crack that might lead to future problems so you can take care of them before they get out of hand (and more expensive!) but they never push any work on you. always reasonable about what you can put off for later, get other quotes, etc. and if you need a crown they can mill them out of the best materials in-house so you don't have to come back another day! Pro tips: - ask for a "bite block" to keep your mouth open so your jaw doesn't get sore, and some lip balm so your lips don't get chapped :) I also go for only 1/4 shot of pain killer and I can't feel a thing and no numb mouth and cheek biting after! but most people might prefer 1/2 shot ;)

Highly recommend, and I was a little skeptical because Total Dental Health has multiple offices, and is different from my previous experiences with small dentist-owned practices. I hope that the staff are well treated!

Experiencia positiva: My dentist Jessica and hygienist, Linda are wonderful. However, the owner has changed the insurance offered by the practice in such a way that I will be leaving Total Health. Years ago, their insurance program cost $350 per year, then it took a leap to $600 per year, but gave us the option of paying monthly which I did for years. Now there is no monthly option and paying $600 at once is a financial hardship for me. Long time patients have to pay the full $600 to renew their yearly policy and new patients have to pay for four years in full. There are so many "what ifs" in people's lives that this policy is greedy and unfair. What if a patient dies one year in? What if they lose their job and have to move? What if they simply want to change dentists? So I will be looking for a new dentist now. But, as I said, Jessica and Linda are great and I will really miss them.

Experiencia fantástica: Judging by one cleaning and one crown replacement (as a new patient), I concluded that the staff is thorough, professional and reliable. Dr. Jessica is clearly an excellent dental practitioner, informative and patient with a pleasant and reassuring chairside manner. The dental technology appears to be state of the art. I was surprised and pleased that my crown could be milled, fitted and cemented in a single visit, without the necessity of wearing a temporary for weeks and returning for placement. Fees for services are more than competitive and less than I expected, having purchased the one-year Total Health package.

There was an incident where one technician shaved down my night guard a bit more than I would’ve liked when doing a fitting. Without any prompting from my side, the doctor reviewed it and decided to order a new one instead of trying to send me home with this one. Good people working here! It makes visiting the dentist something I actually don’t dread - maybe even enjoy a little bit!

Examples: An appointment was changed without giving me notice. I was rushed out even though I arrived on time. The marketing campaign and notice program is consistently annoying to the point of harassment.

In my case, I needed to get a metal filling replaced I got 20 years ago as a kid and I was anxious about what that might look like. I just had the procedure done and it couldn’t have gone better. Doctor Jessica was gentle, communicative throughout and it was pain-free. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a new dentist!

Experiencia negativa: I have been having issues with Total Health from the beginning, but it feels impossible to find another dentist in the Bay that is NOT total health. I am constantly having billing issues and quality of care issues. I went in about three years ago for a crown, and not only did the dentist making disparaging comments about my teeth, but she also forgot about me while with other patients while I have a mold in my mouth, drooling all over myself and almost choking on my saliva. After getting the crown, I decided to go to another dentist for the rest of my dental work. That dentist informed me that the crown Total Health did was NOT properly sealed, which means bacteria can still get in under the crown and destroy my tooth. I have been reaching out to Total Health for over a year to try to get a refund, and have sent them the x-rays showing them that they DID NOT seal the crown correctly. They are very unresponsive. The sad thing is the dental hygienists I have had have been great, but their billing and dentists have not been. I have been to multiple Total Health offices and would not recommend any of them.

Experiencia negativa: This place is a total scam so please avoid if you can. On my first visit there they handed me a $900 bill after the x-ray checkups. The bill was for deep cleaning which at that time I had not done. The amount was before insurance but they said they could refund me after insurance and if I paid upfront I could have a 5% discount. This was NOT how insurance was supposed to work but I did not know then. So I paid for the amount since I was gonna do the cleaning anyway. After the cleaning and insurance claims, they said I could use the leftover balance for future credit. At this point I already felt something was off so I asked for a refund. And it literally took me 2 MONTHS to get my money back while I would go to their office EVERY 2 WEEKS to ask for an update. I still couldn’t imagine how people in any good conscience could have done something like this. I would rather give my money to the homeless.

Experiencia positiva: This place has lost some of its luster over the last few years. It used to offer free massages, dietary consultation and even acupuncture hence the name "Total Health Dental". Now they don't offer any of that. It naturally went away during Covid and never came back. Cost savings i assume. They also used to have a friendly front desk staff that I knew all by name and likewise. Now its all strangers and outsourced calls to confirm my appointment. My last appointment I received several calls and text messages despite confirming with the first call. All these negative points don't overshadow that I still go twice a year for my cleanings and whatever else I need. And that is because dental hygienist Diane is great! We always have great conversations while she cleans my teeth and I trust her with my teeth health. As well as dentist Jessica who is also great and I have been working with for years.

Experiencia negativa: My dental hygienist is fantastic as is the office and everything else about the patient experience. However at my visit today the cost of membership has risen 80% this year! I paid $360 last year, the new bill is $600. I know that everything costs more these days but an 80% increase is unmanageable and shocking, I can no longer afford this dentist. I hope the powers that be in this office come to their senses, I can’t recommend a dentist office with pricing models like this. If money doesn’t concern you then go ahead.

Experiencia negativa: Please read the negative reviews and stay away from Total Health Dental! The negative reviews are very indicative of the experience that I and several friends have had. The hygienists are great, but the dentist always spent very little time with me. I have chronic gum issues, and I did not feel listened to, supported, or taken care of by the dentist. I switched to a new dentist and it has been such a relief. Also, don’t go to Total Health if you have Delta Dental as they are not in network. Please read the reviews about Total Health charging exorbitant prices and pushing people into having costly procedures. This has happened to several people I know and is clearly a pattern.

Experiencia negativa: With COVID and all the respiratory viruses going around, of course patients will get sick. Total health dental care does not extend grace to their patients, especially students and disabled patients. Hygienists aren't required to wear high quality masks, and when you get sick, they charge you $50 to just reschedule. I would not recommend going here either as a Berkeley student or anyone else. When I was sick with COVID last year, they even required me to send them a positive test result, which is a violation of your right to privacy as a patient.

Experiencia negativa: I needed to find a new dentist recently and tried these folks out. On my first visit they said I need wisdom tooth extraction (which I do), and that it would cost $3600 and my portion would be $2600 out of pocket. They handed me something to sign to agree to pay that much money, and offered me a discount of 5% if I paid up front right then. I was shocked and asked why my insurance wasn’t paying more. They said they take my insurance and this cost was standard, but I decided to wait and call my insurance company anyway. When I called them, they said this dentist may technically take my insurance but they’re out of network, so they’re able to charge exorbitant amounts (instead of abiding by the required pricing for in-network dentists) and the patient pays the difference (in my case $2600). For an in-network provider insurance would have covered almost all of the cost. But they didn’t tell me that when I asked why it was so expensive, and tried to get me to pay it all up front or sign something agreeing to pay it. I found this to be extremely manipulative, and the saddest part was watching the guy who came in before me run his credit card to pay up front for a similar amount - now knowing he might have had other options that were much cheaper, if his situation was similar to mine. They scammed him and tried to scam me. If you go to these people, be sure you know how to advocate for your own finances because they are not going to be honest with you about your options.
