Experiencia fantástica: Lynn is by far the best dental hygienist I have ever had. Her technique and skills are high level tier with care and absolutely NO PAIN! Check-in area is clean. Check-in receptionist is done via screen with no human interaction. Waiting area is clean along with the restroom. Looking forward to January for another teeth cleaning. Thank you Lynn. Tofā.

Experiencia fantástica: Today my wife and I had cleaning appointments. We also brought our 20 month old granddaughter to the appointment. The hygienists were great. They not only did a great job with our teeth, but both ladies were very helpful with our granddaughter and super friendly. It was a great experience.

Anyway, I am terrible with names and I hope she forgives me. My point is that I’ve never had a better dental experience. Those two are extremely competent and truly supported one another…and they had a wonderful lighthearted way about them. Every time I worried I was going to experience pain they worked their magic on me and I calmed back down. I am the biggest scardy cat. I experience pain before anyone has even touched my tooth. Not this past Friday, though. I felt I was truly in capable hands. What lovely lovely kind and competent people…

Experiencia positiva: The actual dental care was excellent; the dentist was kind and caring and took plenty of time to talk with me, and the dental tech gave me the least painful cleaning I have ever had! I didn't appreciate the silly "poem" they texted me to ask me to fill out the forms (a bit condescending IMO). And the office felt quite cold and corporate - I was greeted not by an in-person receptionist, but by a receptionist's face on a screen. The waiting room was at the back, and large, but included only two small benches, one on each side of the room, and a small table with exactly one magazine - some kind of fashion rag that I would never read. I will probably go back for the quality of care, but...

Experiencia fantástica: It was easy to schedule my appointment, and I was seen promptly. I have large tori which makes x rays difficult, but the team was accommodating. My specific delta dental plan wasn’t covered, but I didn’t find out until after. They decided to wave the out of pocket cost because of the confusion. I will go back once I switch to the right dental plan. Nicole was very welcoming and responsive as the front desk.

Experiencia negativa: Don’t go here. You will end up with unnecessary work that you’ll need to maintain for the rest of your life. What they’re doing borders on malpractice. As of Jan 2026, they are still texting me to schedule this unnecessary filling. (Originally posted Sep 2025) When I went for a checkup, they didn’t even have a dentist in office. Someone over a Zoom call diagnosed me with a cavity- no x-ray or in-person exam was performed. I got a second opinion elsewhere with x-ray and careful exam, and the other dentist didn’t even find a hint of a cavity. Accordingly, I canceled my cavity filling at Total Health. Months later, they called me out of the blue and aggressively listed all the symptoms and cost of “ignoring a cavity” before even saying hello and demanded that I reschedule a filling. It felt like a loan shark call. This chain is clearly run by private equity and focuses on profit maximization / cost minimization rather than patient care. Go elsewhere.

Experiencia negativa: I had a crown made which wasn't fitted correctly. I went back the next day, they remade a crown that did fit but fell out the next day. I went to another dentist who told me my remaining tooth had been very badly whittled down ( by total health dentist- both times, when fitting the crown) and could no longer hold a crown She is going to try to build up my existing tooth again for another crown. If that doesn’t work she will have to pull the tooth. In other words do no go to Total Health. What a disaster

Experiencia fantástica: I had the best time at the dentist today, and that has literally never happened. Everyone was so welcoming, and friendly, and comforting. And I think that is most important when choosing a dentist office. They listened, they did not judge, they understood. I highly recommend.

Experiencia negativa: They're fine for dental cleanings, but for cavities, I would avoid going here / getting a second opinion. For instance, I went in for a dental cleaning -- at the cleaning, they mentioned I have a cavity that needs to be treated. After the dental cleaning, they tell you the treatment for the cavity is 10% off if you schedule and pay for the treatment in advance. So I did. In retrospect this should have been a red flag -- if anyone offers you incentive for a quick decision made on the spot, maybe it's not worth taking it. Got my cavity done, and later I saw that my insurance was charged for two cavities when in reality they only treated one cavity. Honestly I'm not even sure if the cavity that they told me I had was an actual one.

Experiencia negativa: Stay away at all costs. These people said I had three cavities and took a large deposit for a filling appointment. Having never had cavities in the past, I got a second and third opinion on the matter, and both said that my teeth were in perfect condition. I lost my deposit, and to this day, I receive notifications from them warning me of the cost of ignoring cavities. These people systematically overtreat their patients. They take advantage of the public's trust in medical professionals. They will damage your teeth to profit off of your insurance claim. This business is the definition of evil.

Experiencia negativa: I’ve been a patient at this office since it was a small, family-owned practice under the previous dentist, and for many years it was a great experience. After the ownership change, however, the practice gradually shifted in ways that weren’t clearly communicated to patients. The main issue is that they are out of network for most dental insurance plans, but this isn’t made transparent upfront. As a result, basic appointments often come with unexpected out-of-pocket costs, and I repeatedly found myself trying to resolve insurance questions without clear guidance from the office. Despite multiple attempts, I struggled to reach someone by phone and was often directed to different departments by email, with very little resolution. The administrative side became overwhelming and unproductive, and it ultimately prevented me from keeping up with routine cleanings. Another concern is the lack of continuity of care. I rarely saw the same dentist twice, and at times I was placed on Zoom calls with dentists I had never met. There also seemed to be a push toward add-on procedures or services that weren’t always related to general dentistry. Instead of helping navigate insurance, the solution offered was repeatedly a “membership plan,” which I did not want or need. After several years of trying to work through these issues—including one recent attempt where I was again sold the membership plan—I’ve made the difficult decision to switch to a different family dentist. It’s not a decision I take lightly; I run my own business, I’m a single mom, and changing providers is a significant hassle. I was also charged a $50 fee for canceling an appointment within 48 hours instead of 72, which added to the frustration given the ongoing communication problems. Overall, the lack of transparency, administrative difficulties, and revolving-door staffing have made it impossible for me to maintain regular dental care here. I simply want reliable, in-person dental visits twice a year with insurance that works as expected. Unfortunately, this practice no longer provides that for me.

Experiencia negativa: I have had an awful time here recently, especially since they no longer seem to have regular office staff. I have called and left a message and not heard anything back several times related to my care. They also used to give people free mouth wash and goodies for 5 star reviews, which i assume has caused inflated reviews

Experiencia fantástica: I had a GREAT experience with Lynn at Total Health Dental Care in Berkeley. In all my 79 years of having my teeth cleaned, I must say Lynn gets a 10+ perfect score. She was gentle and SO thorough and gave me helpful tips on how to preserve my oral care. I look forward to my next cleaning more than ever. Thank you Lynn!

Experiencia negativa: Terrible booking system…they booked a second appointment for me after my initial visit which I never requested….I still keep getting text messages that I have an appointment coming up even after the agent told me she cancelled my appointment. I left multiple messages trying to cancel it and I still don’t have a confirmation that my appointment was cancelled! I’m not sure I want to return after this experience. The virtual agent seems to be handling multiple patients at the same time and you don’t get an answer or care when you need it. I have been reaching out to your team, I just never received a confirmation about the cancellation.

Experiencia negativa: Don’t go here. Don’t support corporatization and enshitification of dentistry when you can find any other small practice alternative. Total Health’s “holistic” stuff is just empty marketing. Video call with the dentist instead of actually looking at your teeth, treatment gouging, unprofessional staff, and inefficient. It would take them over an hour to do my X-rays and standard exam, a process that took ~15 minutes after I switched dentists. Didn’t know this not normal. They were pushing $3000+ of treatment. Went to another dentist who said this was all completely unnecessary. Should be malpractice. Was a patient here for years. Switched when I found a smaller practice with a conservative approach. I’m not sure why I didn’t switch earlier.

Experiencia fantástica: I was nervous about going to a dentist without any recommendations from friends or family. I should not have been. The administrative staff and the dentist were both professional and friendly. I recommend this dentist office.

Experiencia negativa: I was pretty disappointed with my appointment with Total Health Dental Care. My first appointment was just an exam, and the doctor did the exam and then told me I had cavities. I have never had a cavity before but it was not unreasonable that I would get them. She didn’t say how many or how much it would cost. I assumed it was few. I had to wait for ~15-20 minutes in the waiting room, and then the receptionist showed me the paperwork for the costs of getting the cavities filled. Much to my surprise, there were 11 cavities listed, and it would cost ~$3,000. I left feeling dissatisfied. They didn’t talk about how it was weird I had never had cavities before and now had 11 or what I should do differently to prevent them and nothing to make me confident in their diagnosis. I went to my old dentist when I was visiting home for a second opinion and he said that I had no cavities and these were normal grooves in my teeth. This is kind of just dentist hearsay, but even if the total health dental care dentist was right, I think they did a poor job handling it. Other annoyances: both times I went, the door was locked, and I and several others waiting outside had to wait for 5 minutes past the start of the appointment before we were let in. The people were nice, at least.

Experiencia fantástica: The whole staff here is amazing and welcoming. They take good care and provide you with detail plan of things you need to do for great oral hygiene. They accept SHIP insurance (for Berkeley students) and they are close to campus so very convenient. Highly recommend.

Experiencia negativa: Seems to be more of a sales office than a dental one; I’d imagine that their success hinges on a fresh population of young students who don’t know enough about dentistry or insurance to know what they are and aren’t getting. Most important: be aware that their “dental exam” is actually remote- as in instead of having a dentist in the room who looks at your teeth and gums, they have a tech take x-rays and pictures and then you have to download an app and log in so that you can get on a zoom call with a dentist (who knows where the dentist is). A few quick google searches indicate that several important parts of a dental exam require the dentist to actually touch you, so right away we’re starting below what I would consider to be the standard of care, and when I described this experience to my new dentist (a Columbia dental school graduate with years of experience) they said they had never heard of any practice doing such a thing. After this call, the tech disappeared for longer than the actual appointment portion took to write up the treatment plan and estimate, and then tried to put the pressure on me to sign and pay in advance right there. I chose to have an actual dentist do a real exam instead and followed up that way. Additionally, they scheduled me for a follow-up in late December without my input and without informing me, then tried to say that I must have scheduled it at my initial visit (which I know to be false as I have text messages from the clinic requesting that I schedule an appointment). Fortunately they did not charge a no-show fee for “missing” the appointment, but it’s a reflection on the practice regardless. The staff is nice enough but you are not going to get quality dental care here.

Once you tell them you’re getting new insurance and might switch dentist, they’re leeches you can’t get rid of. Can’t believe they can take money from CA residents.

Experiencia negativa: I would not recommend seeing this dentist. They have good reviews because they give out free mouthwash if you give them 5 stars. First, it is important to know that the dentist will not be there in person. They will be over zoom. Second, the cleaning was not thorough. Third, I was told I had a bad cavity and needed to get it filled. I got a second opinion by a different dentist and he said I had absolutely no signs of cavities. The same thing happened to a friend of mine that went to Total Health Dental. Fourth, when they tried to schedule me for the filling, all the sudden it was going to be out of network and extremely expensive. Fifth, the mouthwash tastes like dirt. Please go see a different dentist!!

Was able to receive a next day appointment with oral surgeon! Will be coming back! Location is perfect for college students in the area they also have a very good system for payment plans if insurance may not cover full treatment!

Experiencia negativa: Update: I called to make an appointment for tooth repair and cleaning but the appointment made was only for cleaning. At this time there are no doctors on staff at this location so I had to cancel. Also the prices have gone up a tooth cleaning was $99 now $145. If price isn't an issue/you have coverage Sandy who does tooth cleanings is still there doing great work that's just not my current priority. I no longer highly recommend this dental office! Fantastic experience with Dr. Montero I would summarize her work as fast, efficient and painless with attention to detail. Sandy(cleaning), Kiki (kind & X-rays etc.) & Ashley (Super Friendly on the ball with billing- front desk etc). Sandy is fantastic and did a great job with my cleaning, gentle & effective (reportedly- some folks request for this to be done roughly...guess we have some teeth sadists out there;-). They also have small bookstore in their waiting room with a range of different health books that I found informative and even ended up purchasing one. In addition they bottle their own natural holistic mouth wash for sale that I find refreshing and a great way for a quick teeth, gum and breath clean.

Experiencia negativa: Total Health Dental was acquired by private equity and has totally changed. I’ve not seen my dentist in person, in fact the dentist changes every time you go in and you meet them via an app on your cell phone. The prices keep going up and it’s clear the big corporate ownership is optimizing the methods of extracting dollars out of your pocket. They send you to different offices sometimes and the whole experience is confusing and extremely impersonal. My office is now in Berkeley. I started on Piedmont Ave. There are a few offices closer to me but they sent me to Berkeley for some reason, oh but the new intake appointment for the virtual system, that happens at a strange dark little office on telegraph, where again you don’t get to see an actual human dentist.

Experiencia negativa: Very important: this dentist's office has a "virtual dentist" policy - the dentist isn't actually there to look at your teeth! They take pictures and send them off to a dentist somewhere else to take a look. It was very frustrating to have my time wasted, as when I signed up for my appointment, it didn't say that it was a virtual dentist anywhere. But then when I showed up, they told me that their dentists are virtual. There is no way I would trust a dentist to do their work without seeing my teeth in person. The lady at the front desk was nice though. But go somewhere else, where the dentist is in person.

Experiencia fantástica: It was almost hard to believe all the 5 star reviews. I’ve had a string of bad dentists before this. But now I’ve visited twice, once for a cleaning and once for a filling. Staff are all friendly and chipper but real and down to earth at the same time. They’re prompt and transparent, don’t try to upsell or give you unnecessary procedures. Hopefully it stays this way but I am super happy so far and heartily say this is a 5-star dentist.

Experiencia negativa: Unfortunately I just tried to have a visit here and I've come away not knowing if the cavity we are watching is even a concern. I used to love the dentist I saw here but they now have a corporate model of virtual care where there is no doctor on site to give a dental exam, check for cavities, recession, etc. Even if those are your long standing issues they will still have you come in for multiple visits (one virtual doctor, one in person doctor) which for someone like me who is immune compromised, is not safe. Especially since they aren't using the machines that collect aerosols of patients at each station anymore. They take photos, and a doctor in a corporate office who you don't know, doesn't look at your actual teeth, but photos. I wasn't given a reason for the change. I can't help but think this is for profit, they employ less actual dentists, one dentist covers multiple offices. But in an industry where people have many fears, here you don't get to develop a relationship of trust. If speaking to a stranger who does not know you or your history works for you then otherwise the practice is good. Perhaps I would have felt differently if they'd warned me. My appointment had been rescheduled twice, and when I came as usual I wasn't even going to get an exam. Some of us rely on routine and setting expectations if we have fears about the dentist, neurodivergence, mental health issues, and I felt this was not considerate.

Experiencia fantástica: I stumbled upon this THDC office while looking for my first dentist office as an adult with my own insurance, and I feel lucky to have found them! The staff here are knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to answer my questions. Sandy and Ashley in particular have been SO wonderful to work with the past 2 years, they remember me and what I was up to last time I came in! THDC prices may be higher depending on your insurance, but they've taken care of me here and seem to use updated dentistry tech (I've only got a layperson's knowledge :p ). The peace of mind I get here has been worth it for me.

Experiencia fantástica: I come every 6 months for regular cleanings and the experience is always quick and easy. Everyone is super friendly and they’re all great about alleviating any anxiety at the dentist. I love the reminders about upcoming appointments ! Sandy & Dr. Montero are always very friendly and overall I’d strongly recommend this place. I’ve been coming for a couple years now.

Experiencia fantástica: Staff and doctor responded promptly to my appointment request. After entering the dental office, I was checked in quickly with a warm greeting. The specialist sat me down and explained what to expect and when I would be seen by the doctor. After a short wait, I was seen by the doctor who walked me through my concerns. Will be back.

Experiencia fantástica: Highly recommend the Total Health Dental Care team and Dr. Montero. They’re gentle and patient during cleanings and needed filling appointments. I’ve always been picky with dentists due to my sensitive teeth but I really enjoy the entire THDC team. 10/10

Experiencia fantástica: Total Dental is great - I just saw them for the first time today. Did not not have any work done just a routine cleaning. Everyone was so friendly! The staff all had incredible attention to detail. Dr. Montero was very sweet and fixed a chipped tooth I had without my even asking. My hygienist did a really thorough cleaning, educating me as to how she assesses tooth / gum health and giving me fantastic tips for how to continue taking care of my teeth. Loved the entire staff and experience. Such a big difference from the dentists I was seeing in SF.

Experiencia fantástica: Very impressed with this office. Everyone is engaged, attentive, and caring throughout the whole process. Dr. Montero was detailed in what she sees, and thoroughly breaks down what's recommended soon and what's ok to be watched. There's no pressure or judgement here. Also, the amount of Covid precautions during the appointment gives me no concerns, considering the oral work being done.
