Fantastic experience: Dr. Ewing and assistant, Brit, gave me the best care and treatment I've had in recent memory. They were efficient and professional in their treatment. Dr. Ewing also made helpful recommendations and clearly explained the reasons for them. Jara, the receptionist, greeted me warmly and reviewed the costs and expected insurance coverage amounts for services rendered.

Negative experience: I dont write bad reviews unless its absolutely warranted. Im a positive person and I try to look at the bright side of situations. This business earned this review. DO NOT come here! I had two root canals with crowns done here. BOTH TEETH SNAPPED OFF AT THE GUM LINE WITHIN 6 MONTHS!! I absolutely take care of my teeth and have regular cleanings. Im meticulous with my oral hygene. During the whole process of root canals, crown fitting, temporary, crowns, my temporary crowns fell out and i needed to have them BOTH put back in. They never contacted me for my second crowns when it arrived until they cleaned their shelves and did inventory one day. I had called multiple times asking. All my work that was done was Never by the same doctor. They constantly have a revolving door of dentists and cant keep a consistent doctor. To the point that they have more patient appointments than the dentists could cover. Scheduling was chaotic at best. Pricing is ridiculous, even with my dual coverage insurance. I now have two broken teeth, one I went elsewhere to have removed and grafted for an implant and now the other is snapped off at the gumline and needs the same. I brought my wife here for a filling and she also had to see a different dentist because they shaped the filling so jagged that it was cutting a hole in her cheek. Stay away from this place. They are 100% about taking as much money as possible with the poorest quality of work!

Fantastic experience: I was seen the same day as a new patient after a weekend of extreme tooth pain. The office staff was incredibly helpful and friendly and the dentist was amazing. They explained everything they were going to do, explained again as they were doing it, and then went over a detailed plan of care when finished. I can't praise them enough for their help, professionalism, and bedside manner. We will be moving our entire family to their practice.

Fantastic experience: I want to share how wonderful our patients are! I was in extreme back pain. One on my patients saw that at her appointment. She went home, made an appointment for me, called me and said that in 10 minutes she would be picking me up to go to her chiropractor. She picked me up and helped me get relief from my pain and returned me to the office to finish my day! What better patients can you ask for!!

Negative experience: Honestly, the hygenists are very kind and empathetic, but it doesn't save all of the other issues with the practice. I came in for an appointment after chipping one of my front teeth, and I had maybe 5 minutes with one of the dentists (whom I never even saw again on any of the 4 follow up visits that I've had). I was told that I needed braces/aligners and referred to an orthodontist. I was also told that I needed a root plane, and scheduled for those appointments. The chip was never addressed (and now that I'm going through aligners, will not be fixed until that is completely finished). I went to this provider as an in-network dentist. But the root planing was denied by insurance because initially x rays hadn't been sent through. After talking with Kentwood Dental multiple times about how I was receiving notifications for bills for over $1k, regularly, and ultimately had to call my insurance, where they were the ones to tell me what was missing and that the office should be handling it and not me. I let the office know and they said they were in the process. 2 more months go by with regular messages saying I owed the full amount. Since then, I have never had a call answered or a message returned. I called insurance again, and they let me know the entire procedure had been denied due to lack of necessity/justification. But I never heard anything else from Kentwood, other than automated messages telling me to pay them. In addition, after working with insurance, I've found that every visit that I had with Kentwood, they were balance billing me, and charging me the difference between their out-of-network and in-network rates, while also collecting the insurance payment. I ultimately did the math with insurance and paid them what my negotiated rate was supposed to be, and have since gotten multiple text messages saying that I need to contact them to "keep my account in good standing." Of course every time I call it goes to voicemail, regardless of the time (they say between 9a-4p, M-F), and I have not yet received a call back despite calling since June (and it is now the end of August). I would suggest going somewhere else, if you can, if not to just avoid this nightmare of a billing system.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Minimal wait time.

Negative experience: Do not go here!!! I called with extreme tooth pain and they said they could get me in in 15 minutes! Now I know why! No patients, and they scammed me out of $186 only to tell me I had an infection…DUH! And that they couldn’t even give me an Rx for antibiotics! They said “Oh you’ll need to go to Urgent Care.” I would have gone there and spent the money there! But he did give me a referral to his fellow Endodontist from the same country! Plus he came in sounding like he had a cold and didn’t have a mask on!! The place is a scam.

Fantastic experience: I don’t have any complaints. I started going here back when Dr. Novak was the owner (almost 20 years ago). I’ve seen lots of changes since then. Most for the best. They are keeping my teeth in good shape and that’s all I can ask for.

Negative experience: I went there today just to get papers signed because there not professional at all . So I go in the office I stood there for about 20min waiting for someone to come out and ask can I help you , but no one came i opened theglass and shouted hello. Still no one came out opened the door and slammed it still no one came . I called while standing there no one answered. I can't go there any more. If you have an appointment you wait for and hour before they see you also.

Negative experience: First time I ever met the dentist and she was rude basically calling me a liar for saying I floss and brush twice a day because my teeth are stained. She also was obviously irritated that I have a small mouth which made her job harder as if I chose my mouth size on a character creator… Will find a new dentist for sure.

Negative experience: Had a feeling of being less than there. Dentist tried to sell me cosmetic stuff right off the bat no questions about my health first.

Negative experience: Their customer service and care have gone down hill drastically in the last year or two. If you asked me my opinion 5 years ago, I would have given them 5 starts without hesitation. I'd been going to this dentist since I was LITTLE LITTLE. I even stayed after they moved locations and the original dentist himself retired/left. However lately, everything has suffered. I didn't use to mind that the dentist him/her-self was someone new EVERY visit (after the main guy left/retired after they moved out of their old location), but every single one has been worse and less personable. Customer service is the WORST. For example; I called earlier this year to get my 6-month check-up scheduled once I was officially on insurance with my new company, but they never returned the 4-5 calls/voicemails I left them. I eventually found I could schedule myself online, I got the normal reminder text of my appointment and I confirmed i'm still going. I showed up and the office had no record of my appointment. Front desk even confirmed it was their # and text when I showed it I had text confirmation. I then had to reschedule since they had no openings. The new appointment came and went fairly normal, I paid what I owed, scheduled my next visit and went back to work. However for the past couple weeks i've been HARASSED by texts asking me to review their service. I finally opted to "STOP" the texts because they wouldn't stop. Now I have a nasty-gram letter out of nowhere about a past due bill! I already paid what I was told I was owed in office, but now they're saying I have to pay what insurance wont' cover (which is fine, but why am I JUST NOW hearing about it from a NASTY letter?). They claim they sent me text, I told them the only texts I got where asking me to review my service, NOT about a bill, they just keep denying denying denying. I asked them to tell me the website, but they would only text me. Well now I have you blocked, so I wont' get the text. I called before work and left a message to just tell me the website. I got a voicemail while at work saying they tried texting me again. I called back (I'm at work! I'm BUSY! I can't play phone tag!), the girl tells me there is no website (What???) and that their only option is the link via text, pay over the phone or take a check to the office. Jesus, just send me a bill in the mail like a NORMAL BUSINESS, but NO they won't do that either. Now i'll have to find time AGAIN during my busy work day to TRY to call back AGAIN to make the payment over the phone. I'll be looking for a new dentist. I don't like any of their changes or how they operate.

Negative experience: Update: They charged me for $260 for X-rays that I should not have had or they coded it wrong because my X-rays were always covered. They also gave my 12yo a treatment that I did not approve of because I knew the day we walked into that dentist office it was going to be our last. Stay away from this place!!!!! This dentist office is not owned by a dentist. It is owned by a corporation. I have been going here for 10 years and I have had enough. I have always been supportive of this office even though I have seen what seems like 15 dentist go through this place in the last 10 years. My last appointment was for 3pm and I took a half day off work to go since they are not open past 5pm. We got there plenty early at 230. I did not even get X-rays until 4pm. Then the new dentist came in and said everything looked good. The office never even cleaned my teeth before looking at them. Literally was not even in a chair to get any cleaning. I am now trying to find out if they charged my insurance for a cleaning that never happened. And the front desk assistant attitude has been awful. If you hate your job that much do something else. Our whole family used to come here. I was the last hold out. This dentist office is not owned by a dentist. It is owned by a corporation.

Negative experience: Screwed up a crown. Would not fix it. Management wouldn't call me. Would not give me my money back!!!

Negative experience: I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE NO STARS Steer clear of this dental office they are VERY rude. I have a $200 balance. My phone number was changed so they couldn’t reach me BUT when I called to schedule I gave my new number to the staff and was scheduled for an appointment. I go today and I’m told my balance needs to be paid first . My thing is if you didn’t have my new number and that was the case why in the Hell would you schedule. I paid for service when I first came here I couldn’t find my receipt so they played a gotcha which was around $240 ish so I really owe nothing. Keep reading looks like Jamie Cook has had the same experience!!!!!!

Negative experience: This place has gotten terrible over the last few years. Leaving this place for another dentist office. Lost plenty of teeth due to them dragging their feet for months on end. Forces you to make multiple appointments for things other offices will do in one appointment. They just cancel appointments without telling you and you show up and get nothing from them for another few months . This place needs to step it up A LOT. Nightmare office, stay away.

Negative experience: This practice has gone down hill bad! I used to love to go there but never again! Office staff is pathetic and so unprofessional. They say you owe money for things but you do not. Charged me for a crown they never even put on my daughter then have the complete audacity to call me a year and a half later stating they have her permanent crown and want to schedule putting it on!!??? Then I call and say she obviously is not your patient anymore and can I pick up the crown I paid for, they stated if I pay the co-pay of $170 which included the procedure that she didn’t actually get! So they billed my insurance for a procedure my daughter didn’t get but want a co-pay PLEASE! Steer clear of here go to Robinson Dental! I could go on and on about them canceling appointments and just messing up my family’s appointments, all 5 of us have had this happen, but I will spare you that headache! Again go anywhere but here!

Fantastic experience: I love the cleaning service that Jari provides for me and the communication throughout! I have had the same dental clinic for more then ten years. I recommend this dental cleaning clinic to all that I know.

Fantastic experience: I have a fear of going to the dentist (the drills, the unknown, the financials) and after putting it off for way too long I ended up making my appointment. The staff at Kentwood Dental Care really took the time to make sure I was comfortable and understood everything they were doing and why. I never thought I’d see the day I’d write a glowing review of a dentist, but fear not— your experience here will be a great one!!!

Negative experience: First visit here and a terrible one. My daughter and I came here for a 6 month cleaning and ended up being in the office 4 hours! First off, I told them it was 6 month cleaning and only do what insurance covers. They wanted to do x-rays which i had done the prior cleaning and knew they wouldn't cover it so that was the first red flag. My old office (which is closing) had sent our files over with all film and bite wing images. They lost one of my daughters retainers only to find it hours later in the drain catch pan. Terrible experience, only to get an invoice for charges that weren't done. The corporate billing & patient services were not helpful and the office wouldn't return calls. I am not contacting the dental association and filed a claim with my insurance for predatory billing practices. First and last visit to this office. Shame on you!

Fantastic experience: When entering this office for the first time I was greeted with smiles and enthusiastic workers while very busy they still took the time to acknowledge me and say we will be with you in a moment! When they said may we help you and realized who I was the smiles became bigger you see the dentist at this office is my son! After I was seated in my chair in my room there was not one person that proceeded to come into my room and tell me what a wonderful person my son was and how great it was to work for him but EVERYONE of them had something wonderful to say about him!! After my next appt. having him work on my teeth (I needed a filling replaced) I was very impressed with his mannerism towards his fellow coworkers and how well they all respect each other. Doctor Paul is very informative before, during, and after he is done with his work so if you are looking for a dentist who genuinely cares, and the rest of the staff that makes you feel at home, I would suggest Kentwood Dental Care!!

Positive experience: I have been coming to this office for a few years since my other dentist retired. This is my first visit with the new dentist. He was very friendly and calming. His work was also very good. It took a long time to get in but based in the work I’ll be back. If it’s not an emergency I’d recommend them. Also Jill will do a great job cleaning your teeth.

Negative experience: Set up a confirmed appointment here two weeks ago, used my limited PTO to get in here only to find out when I show up they're not even there. I didn't receive anything at all from them saying they weren't going to be at the office. Complete waste of my time and PTO. If something came up, it should have been relayed to me before I came. EDIT: Looking at other reviews it seems I'm not the only one in the past two months who has this issue, so clearly it's an ongoing problem. Avoid this place if you value your PTO and your time. What a joke of a business.

Negative experience: My appointment Tuesday July 20 was cancelled by way of a sheet of paper talked to the door stating that they would call when they were back in the office 2 full days since then and still no call, even though my roommate went in for a procedure yesterday. Fantastic experience: I called to arrange a cleaning/exam and was given an appointment within a couple of weeks. The front office staff were friendly and accommodating. My hygienist, Jerri, was extremely thorough and explained everything she was doing - along with a bit of humor - which was much appreciated. I’ve been to a practice in the past where they wanted to do work on many different areas. I was told I needed nothing more than the cleaning by the dentist (who was also friendly and caring) and I was quite relieved by this. I’ll be back in 6 months for my next cleaning and will refer friends and family as well!

Fantastic experience: The dental hygienist is amazing! She is friendly up beat she cleans teeth throughly and gently. She also takes the time to teach easier techniques for brushing and flossing at home. She puts the patient's needs first and looks out for the patient. She is the only dental hygienist I'll let in my mouth.

Negative experience: Absolutely horrific! Dr. John Villar was torturous to my son. He never explained the extent of the needed procedure. He spent over 5 mins injecting numbing medication causing my son to cry. We were prepared for that to he the worst part. It was 90 mins of continuous pain, grinding, and excessive pressure on his jaw. He caused my son to vomit twice and got upset at him. The dental hygienist was even shoked! I had to yank my son to sit up in order to prevent aspiration. He also WALKED AWAY 4 times! When I asked him why, the dentist told me that this experience was too draining for him. For him! Imagine how my 7 yr felt sobbing his eyes out in pain. Don't ever go there and NEVER let that person go near your children. He's a monster!
