Fantastic experience: Smile Valley Dentistry is a top-notch pediatric dental practice in NW DC, just a mile from the Bethesda, MD border. We started seeing Dr. Roya Pilcher in 2019, when our son was 6mo, referred by our excellent pediatrician at Spring Valley Pediatrics in the next building over. In the last year or two, I think, Dr. Priya Shah joined the practice and took over our son’s care. We couldn’t be happier to be working with Dr. Priya as our son loses his first tooth! She patiently answered all his questions about it, including the going rate for the tooth fairy. Kudos also to the staff who keep things running so smoothly (with an awesome text-message-based comms process) and have a real knack for working with busy kids and parents. Our son loves the camping theme to the entire office, including the camping Tic-Tac-Toe in the waiting room. He runs for it as soon as he sees it.

Fantastic experience: Our daughter gets nervous at the doctor. Dr. Pilcher always makes her feel comfortable and leave happy--even after having teeth pulled! We are so lucky to have found this dentistry for our kids.

Fantastic experience: Smile Valley is an amazing practice. Our kids have been with two different practices prior to us finding our way to Smile Valley and this came with some reservations about seeing a dentist. After the first visit, both of our kids (elementary school age) look forward to going for their check ups and can’t stop talking about all the information the dr has shared about their teeth! They’re even excited about getting filling as they get to watch their favorite shows while enjoying a flavored treat of laughing gas. Couldn’t recommend this practice and all the doctors and staff enough. We went from a stressful experience and dread to a complete breeze and love of dental visits.

She has a kind and gentle manner with the kids and works well with sensory and regulation issues. She always has a calming demeanor and never pushes a child to do anything they are not ready for. Never much of a wait, and they take both my boys at the same time, in two chairs in the same room with a divider. It works out great so I never have to leave one alone. My kids literally dance with joy on dentist mornings because they LOVE going to the dentist. Dr Pilcher is amazing with kids, very patient and calm, especially when the kids are not. She’s very thorough and communicative with me. Our visits never feel rushed. The staff are super patient with my high-energy never-stops-talking and very mischievous/curious little one. They answer all his questions, and help him satisfy his curiosity about their tools. They also explain everything they’re doing in very child-friendly ways. My kids love going to the dentist! We LOVE Dr. Pilcher. They run a very efficient office and the staff appear to be happy to be there. All around great!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Roya is the best. We’ve been seeing her since my now-15-yr-old was 3. I brought that 15-yr-old in today for a lacrosse ball-to-the-jaw incident. Dr. Roya was thoughtful, calm, straight-forward, & reassuring. We never feel rushed when we’re with her, but especially today Dr. Roya took so much time and care in answering my teen’s many questions. We’re very lucky to have Dr. Roya as our pediatric dentist!

Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience with Dr. Roya Pilcher. My 5 year old daughter isn’t an easy client - she has trouble seating still. But Dr. Pilcher makes her feel so comfortable and really responds to her needs. She explains her every step and takes breaks if needed. If something doesn’t work, she has alternative ideas and won’t give up until the work is done and the little client is happy. We came to Dr. Pilcher from a different dental practice with some traumatic experience. Dr. Pilcher saved the situation - the teeth are in great shape (all dental work was done perfectly ) and my daughter loves her dentist! Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Pilcher is an absolute godsend. She must have a time machine because she never leaves us in the waiting room and gives our family as much time as we need for our child's appointments, every single time. Despite all this, she is incredibly skilled at working in pre-cooperative mouths and does amazing things in a matter of seconds. Her bedside manner is phenomenal—she somehow creates such a fun, playful environment for kids in a normally stressful context. I don't think we have ever had such incredibly high quality care from any doctor, let alone a dentist. The decor / atmosphere is really fun—camping theme—but we keep coming back for the exceptional care she provides to our daughter. The front desk staff and hygienists are 100% delightful as well.

She's very caring, thorough, communicates great with the kids and explains every single issue to parents. We've been pleased with her recommendations for ortho and oral surgeon when needed. Always helpful and friendly staff. She even added an extra appointment day to accommodate back to school appointments!

Fantastic experience: Our family has been going to Dr Pilcher since before our kids had teeth. Our kids always look forward to their visit. The staff is friendly and patient and kind and make cleanings and appointments a pleasure. And the kids still love to pick a toy at the end of each appointment. Dentists and staff are all very knowledgeable and helpful and when a procedure has been necessary, the environment is very calming and reassuring. They also were very helpful in referring us to Gerlein Orthodontics, which has been equally as good of an experience for our kids. I really appreciate smile Valley dentistry for all they do.

Waits are short (and the waiting area is so cute you kind of want to hang out longer), the dental care is thorough and gentle, and we have literally never heard tears from any exam room over the 10+ years we’ve been with Dr. Pilcher.

Fantastic experience: Atticus has always been nervous around dentists until we found Dr Pilcher. She is patient, explains everything to him to his satisfaction, and is wonderful. Yesterday he went to get a tooth extracted and there were no tears. A definite miracle!

Dr. Pilcher did the essential work and along with her assistant reassured him and made him feel comfortable. After that all the appointments have been easy stress free. He likes everything about the office; the play area, the greeting from Bianca, the personable assistants, the sun glasses, the flavored toothpaste and most of all Dr. Pilcher's friendly and smiling communication. She's a superstar, and my son will go nowhere else.
