Smalltown Dental Kids

Positive experience: The staff is excellent, and we’ve always had a good experience with the care and service provided. My only concern during this visit was the wait time after my son’s cleaning was finished. We waited about 35 minutes before he was called back, which I completely understand. I know appointments can run behind and things happen throughout the day. However, after his cleaning was completed, we waited approximately 12 minutes just to be checked out. During that time, another customer who finished after us was checked out in about 3 minutes. When the service is complete, customers are generally ready to leave, so the wait at the end was frustrating. I completely understand delays before an appointment, but I feel the checkout process after the service could be improved.

Fantastic experience: Could not recommend more for parents with small children. They have never done better at an office visit and they really took their time while also keeping things moving/efficient. They took the time to answer questions I had and gave me even more info on how to keep my kids smiles extra healthy. 10/10 experience.

Negative experience: In our time there, I don’t think they've ever been on time with schedules. They usually run 10-15 minutes behind. This last visit, they didn’t call my son back for 25 minutes. Just a warning in case you have anywhere else to be in your day.

Negative experience: My son didnt get his nerve blocker for his fillings and crowns done. He was screaming and crying. No one told us until they brought him out to us and the nurse was hovering over him and wouldn't let him speak when we were asking him what was wrong

Fantastic experience: Best dental care for all children in the area! Special needs children too! They are always patient and gentle with my autistic son. Going to the dentist is no longer a fear for him. They are the best around and I hope they know how appreciated they are. From the front office staff to the dental staff, big thanks from my family and I! I feel lucky to have found this office.

Fantastic experience: The absolute best pediatric dentist! They are great with the kids!

Negative experience: Rather than allow the parent to ask the dentist questions, they run your questions through several employees and then the dentist cancels the appointment due to not enough time to answer questions and do the treatment. Unprofessional run-around and same day cancelations that they would charge you for if you were to cancel same-day. They don't care about the time patients/parents have to miss from school/work, but don't dare to ask questions on their time.

Fantastic experience: Both of my kids love Dr. Roth and the hygienists & team. They provide a welcoming atmosphere and take such good care of their patients. They educate them on dental hygiene and explain procedures in ways they understand. Wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.

Negative experience: The office staff is so incredibly rude. Both the dental hygienist and Dr.Roth were kind and great with my son during his appointment. The only concern during care was staff requesting that parents stay in the lobby, but they allowed me to go back with my toddler. It is very difficult to get an appointment booked and when you do you have to put $25 down to secure the appointment. I called to cancel my appointments 4 months ahead of them and they have not refunded my money back yet. The receptionist, Paris, laughed when I called a second time about getting this money back. I love the regular Smalltown dentist office and have for years so it is a shame that the children’s one is so lacking in manners and courtesy. If they hired different office staff, I would return to this location…but I will be seeking care elsewhere after these interactions.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend this place enough. My son had a horrendous experience at his previous dentist at the age of 3. It was to the point where he was petrified of going anywhere near a dentist. Dr. Roth and her team have now been able to successfully complete the treatment plan he needed. I am so appreciative of everyone who works in this office for making my little guy feel so safe and comfortable. Thank you so so much!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Staff were so friendly. We were greeted as soon and we walked in the door. The waiting room had toys for the kids to play with while waiting which we thought was nice. The dental assistant was wonderful with my daughter and made her feel comfortable and explained everything she was doing to her. The dentist was fabulous as well! She was super friendly and listens to your concerns as well. We developed a plan for my daughter in no time and got everything scheduled. I would recommend this office to everyone. My daughter told us “thats the best dentist ever and I would go back to her”.

Fantastic experience: Great first dentist experience for my 5.5 year old! Amy, his hygienist, was amazing and made him feel so comfortable. Everything was explained in a kid-friendly way. Loved Dr. Roth as well and how she engaged with my son, as well as the depth that she went into in explaining his x-rays and what we can expect next as far as what teeth to lose, dental health etc. Only complaint is the wait was about 30 mins, but I know that can vary day to day, and the service after made up for it.

Fantastic experience: My children, age 10 and 8, had their first visit at this practice and I only have good things to say. They each received a thoughtful welcome bag but, more importantly, the staff was incredibly welcoming and kind. It is very evident that they enjoy their jobs and love kids. My children were out at ease and had a wonderful experience. Dr. Roth is stupendous! She listened to all my questions and provided for thoughtful and comprehensive answers. I recommend this dental practice without reservations.

Fantastic experience: I'm so glad we found this dentist for my 7 year old! He had terrible experiences with our previous dentist to the point of not wanting to see one at all. We were referred here by my dentist, and it was such a great experience! Everyone was patient and kind with my son, who has some sensory issues and oral aversion. When we left, he said he loves the dentist and gives them 5/5 stars.

They took their time making sure to carefully examine his teeth and were very gentle with my son. Dr Roth shared lots of helpful tips on brushing techniques, foods to avoid, and other things to expect. We were very impressed with their office and how clean everything was!

Fantastic experience: They are great with my kids! My insurance reimburses me so I have to pay up front but they quickly turn things in and I’ve never had any trouble with billing being incorrect. Drive 45 minutes to come here and will continue to.

Negative experience: First disappointment, they don't allow parents in the same room when your kids are sedated. So no transparency there. Second disappointment, they placed three fillings on my child's teeth. One of the fillings fell out. We go back and they decide to remove the tooth with the missing filling. When my child returns from the procedure, I asked how are the other two fillings looking? They said they did not check. When asked why? They said that is not what the appointment was for. I would think common sense, and perhaps ethical medical practice, would guide you to check on the other two fillings you put in before, since the third fell out. It's like if a mechanic puts a new tire on your car but one of the lug bolts come off. When you take the car back, you would think after replacing the lug bolt, they check on the other log bolts to make sure they were fasten right. It's hard to get an appointment right away, my child endured pain for weeks. I figure, by checking the state of the other two fillings, perhaps we can avoid this problem again. Third and final disappointment, I have never met the actual pediatric dentist, although I have gone several times. I only get talked to the hygienist/assistant. This review is only for the Smaltown Dental Kids. The adult/family side is really good. Just disappointed with the pediatric unit.

Negative experience: This office LIES about the work your child needs. We opted in for a second opinion after we were told our child would need a bunch of dental work done (he has always had really good oral health so this was weird) and payment would be due upfront which would have been over one thousand dollars out of pocket. They were not flexible with even splitting the payment in 2 and were extremely rude when simply asking if there was a payment plan option. I should’ve known something wasn’t right when we were not even allowed to go back into the exam room. We decided to switch dentist because we didn’t feel comfortable with how we were being treated and luckily we did…Come to find out, the work they said our son needed, wasn’t even issues he had!!! We saved ourselves so much money. Unfortunately we have heard the same situation has occurred with MANY OTHERS. It’s a complete scam! Do not trust a word this office says! It’s FRAUD!

Fantastic experience: My adhd son has major anxiety when it comes to the dentist. My son had a traumatic experience at another dentist office and I thought he would forever fight any dentist that came his way. Dr. Roth changed that for us!! He just recently had dental surgery to help him not associate the dentist with pain. Dr. Roth made it an easy comforting experience for all of us. She gave us options but also shared what she thought would work best for him. She never pressured us into anything. Once we made our decision and it came to the day of his surgery, he walked back with her to the OR like a champ and is healing exactly as she said he would. The office made scheduling and setting everything up super easy. The office even checked on him the next day. We couldn’t ask for a better dentist and experience.

Fantastic experience: My 7 year old son has complex special needs that include autism and a communication disorder. Both the dental hygienist and Dr Roth were incredibly patient and accommodating. This was his first visit to a dental office and he was very comfortable and experienced way less anxiety than I expected. Scheduling the next appointments and billing insurance was fast and easy, the exam room was very kid friendly and included a variety of fidget and sensory toys. My only complaint was how crowded the waiting area is, but that's not enough to take away any stars! Highly recommend, especially if your child has anxiety around going to the doctor or dentist.

Fantastic experience: My daughter had to get her front teeth fixed due to some decay. They were very non-judgmental but most importantly, they were very kind to my daughter and made her feel comfortable. She even said she liked it there and wanted to go back! I would not hesitate to do that. They are wonderful.

Negative experience: We really liked everything the stuff was great. My daughter had to get her work done at hospital. It took us a year to save up the money to get it done. It was like $2000 since it had to be done at hospital .They wanted money up front for the whole procedure which I totally understand. When it was over They said we owed another $500.00. we did not have it. It took a year for me to get it paid for. . After I paid it off I tried to make an appointment with my son and they said no they will no longer take us because it took too long to pay our bill.

Fantastic experience: My son is seven years old and had to have extensive work done to his mouth. I believe Smalltown did the best they could to make the experience comfortable. Lets face it none of us like going to the dentist. I hope the next visit can be less traumatic, six teeth removed and two fillings on molars. If it has to be done, Smalltown I believe is the best place to take your child.

She likes to get there early before the appointment so she can play in their play area. They make sure kids and parents feel comfortable and keep parents informed the whole time!

Fantastic experience: We were referred by a local dental office due to my oldest son having a few cavities. That office said the whole experience would be better in a pediatric setting. Living 45-60 minutes away, I was not looking forward to having to go that far for dental visits. I can honestly say that it is well worth the drive. I absolutely love taking my boys there and more importantly, my boys love going there. The staff is amazing and friendly! The boys love the toys in the lobby and the TVs on the ceilings in the rooms. The entire office is so personable and happy to see you. Dr. Roth and her team knock it out of the park every visit. My oldest had to have some extensive cavity work done and they worked with us to get it taken care of. When our insurance company was being a pain, they fought tooth and nail (pun intended) with them to make the procedure happen. Thank you Smalltown Dental Kids for making the whole dental experience so enjoyable. If you’re on the fence for any reason or just nervous how your kids will do, I promise it’s worth it!!

Fantastic experience: Had both of our sons first dentist appt yesterday (3.5&1.5) and they were SO good to them. Even though my 3 year old was very difficult they were very patient and caring with him and knew how to get the work done with grace with a crying1&3 year old. Went a lot better than I expected. My son picked out a bouncy ball after his visit and has not let that toy out of his sight! I’m sure he will be more excited for next time now that he knows he will get a little toy! And proudly showed off his clean teeth to everyone in our family! Thanks everyone on this team for being so kind!

Fantastic experience: Amazing dental office for kids! We tried to take my daughter twice to my regular dentist (just for a cleaning) and she was too nervous and wouldn't comply, so they recommended a pediatric dentist. We came to Smalltown Dental Kids and they were so welcoming, had amazing staff they knew how to make kids feel at ease, had toys in the waiting room and the exam room, and a TV on the ceiling in the exam room. The Dr. was awesome and took time with us to talk to my daughter and make her feel comfortable and made us feel like she wasn't just trying to shuffle us through. 10/10 recommend!

Fantastic experience: My son that is 5 and has Autism had his dental checkup yesterday and to say he was uncooperative is an understatement but Ms. Kinzie and Dr Roth were amazing with him! I definitely suggest taking your child here!

Fantastic experience: Great experience. My 4yo's first dental appt. They had plenty of toys in the waiting room for the kids during their wait. The techs and dentist were very kind and gentle with my son and explained every part of the process and had a TV for him to watch his favorite show during his cleaning. I would definitely recommend. My only frustration was being told that I had to pay up front and they would bill my insurance for reimbursement but was told by a coworker that goes to the same dentist that they bill the insurance and they just bring in the reimbursement check when they receive it. The visit was quite expensive so that was a bit frustrating to learn.

Fantastic experience: The staff at Smalltown Dental Kids in Morton are phenomenal with what they do! My child was referred by our usual dentist because of some fear and anxieties at a routine visit, and it was a wonderful experience to see such a change in demeanor when we had our appointment at Smalltown Dental Kids! The atmosphere and appearance of the office itself relaxed my child enough to not even be phased by the dental tools for cleaning and exams. Thank you Dr. Roth and your staff so much for the obvious joy you have in your jobs and love for your patients! We cannot recommend this office enough!

Fantastic experience: The exact words out of my kindergarteners mouth today. "Mom, the dentist isn't scary after all." This is a huge improvement from the first time 2 years ago, where I drug him out from under a table kicking and screaming to get him to the back. Although, he was very difficult the staff was so patient with him. Now he loves it and can't stop talking about the importance of flossing.

Fantastic experience: The team at Smalltown Dental kids is wonderful. Kenzie was super personable, patient and explained everything she was doing in a way my son could understand. Dr. Roth is so friendly and just wonderful with kids. This office has provided very positive experiences for my children and they look forward to visiting the dentist!

Negative experience: My son had an appointment to get a cavity filled. For his first filling, we used nitrous because he was nervous. He did very well and came out smiling. For his 2nd cavity, I did not feel it was necessary to use nitrous again. He felt confident going back on his own, was happy, and showed no signs of being nervous. I said very clearly that I did not want nitrous used on my son. The hygienist had to go back and speak with Dr. Roth. She came back and urged me to move forward with the gas. Again, I said no and to come get me if there were any issues. My son went back in a great mood. Not even 2 mins later, a different hygienist came out and said Dr. Roth would not complete treatment without nitrous. So I asked if there was a problem with my son. Was he in distress or causing issues? The hygienist wasn't sure, so she had to go back and check. She came out and said my son was happy and completely fine. However, we should use the nitrous bc if Dr. Roth started without it, and my son needed it there would be safety concerns. Again, I said no to the nitrous. I was confident that my son did not need it. He was happy and comfortable. Dr. Roth did go ahead and fill his cavity, and he came out all smiles after using no nitrous! I did not appreciate being pressured into using the gas. I was confident in what my son could handle, and I would never have put him in a situation where he was uncomfortable. The fact that I was told they wouldn't move forward in filling his cavity without gas and then finally did when I continued to say no was very frustrating. I felt extremely pressured, bullied, and not respected. My son left happy and had a positive experience. I was not in the wrong to say no to the gas and my wishes should have been respected. I shouldn't have had to say no to multiple different hygienists and I shouldn't have been told they would refuse treatment and then complete it after admitting my son was completely fine. If my son was scared, upset, or in danger of being hurt I 100% would have said yes to nitrous.

Fantastic experience: Literally the only place I can convince my daughter to go with out a meltdown! The staff is AMAZING and makes sure your child is completely comfortable! My daughter actually enjoys going here!

Negative experience: I called and made a appointment for my son due to a tooth hurting. The assistant was so nice to my son! She is amazing! The dentist came in, took a look at his teeth and then showed me a bubble on his gum under the tooth that was hurting. She then gave me 2 options which nether delt with the tooth pain that I was there for at that time. She also told me that the abcese was not bad enough to treat. This was a big waste of my time and did not help my son.

Fantastic experience: We were referred to the kids office from the Chillicothe office due to possible extraction needed. Dr Roth was very friendly, explained everything to us, and was genuinely nice, unlike other dentists from other offices we’ve seen before. The office staff is friendly, and the kids play area was a hit with my son. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: My daughter’s last appointment will be on 19th and then we are going somewhere else. They don’t work with you whatsoever. No payment plan, nothing. They expect you to fork out hundreds and thousands of dollars to be paid the day of service or they won’t see you. My daughter needs this appointment, it’s not like it’s just a cleaning, but they don’t care. They’d rather have kids keep cavities in their mouth or let kids suffer with health issues due to dental issues because all they care about is the money. They don’t care about the kids. If they did, they would work with families. I would recommend going somewhere else. Go somewhere that actually cares.

Fantastic experience: My daughter had a bad experience at a previous dentist, but Dr Roth and her office took extra care to make sure she was comfortable and made sure the bad experience wasn’t repeated.

Fantastic experience: My daughter previously had a negative experience at another dental practice. Everyone at Smalltown was amazing and patient and made sure Shelby was comfortable. I could not believe we accomplished dental work without hospitalization but we did. I cannot thank you all enough.

Fantastic experience: My two year old had his first dental visit and teeth cleaning yesterday and it could not have went any better! Our dental hygienist, Kaylee, was so sweet and wonderful with my son and truly made the appointment go so easy for him. We really enjoy Dr. Roth and have trusted her with lip tie revisions for both of our children (1 year old and 1 month old). Highly recommend Smalltown Dental Kids!
