Positive experience: Dr. Candela is very friendly and knowledgeable. I like her a lot. This recent visit was my 3rd routine cleaning and may be my last there. My 1st hygienist was a sweetheart but I've had a different one each time and it has gotten progressively worse. This last hygienist didn't explain much that she was doing, almost drown me with the water pix which I never get but was not given an option. At the same time, I was told if I didn't agree to a periodontal probing on my next visit I probably would not be seen since "it's the law". I have no indication at all of periodontal disease so I asked what law was she referring to and she provided me with 2 sections of SC code, neither of which reference periodontal probing. Know your rights as a patient. Law is not the same as guidelines. Buyer beware.

Fantastic experience: I went to a dentist about a year ago and was very unsatisfied with the unprofessionalism. It took me a while to look into a dentist in Cola again after my experience previous. I decided to give this office a shot based off of reviews. I can happily say I was not dissapointed my first appointment. I called expressing my concerns and the office coordinated with me efficiently up until my appointment. The dentist and assistant made sure I felt comfortable and listened to my concerns. The dentist told me things she noticed and the recommendation felt authentic and not like a money grab. I appreciated this, as the last office I visited was trying to fear monger me into things I did not even need. As of right now I 100% recommend this office.

Fantastic experience: Devine Dentistry is AMAZING! I will be honest and say it had been more than a few years since my last visit to the dentist and I was extremely nervous going into my appointment. Walking into the office my nerves disappeared quickly as the staff is so welcoming, kind, patient, and informative. Every aspect of my appointment was explained to me and explained in terms I could understand which I appreciated greatly. Everyone was incredibly personable and kind! Dare I say - I may look forward to going to the dentist now Thank y’all for all you do - you are amazing!

Negative experience: TL;DR: I had a treatment done for something that was unrelated to what I thought I was getting treatment for. I debated on whether or not to share this experience. I’ve been going to Devine Dentistry for 4 years and it’s been a great experience overall. Dr Candela has been so lovely and knowledgeable in every interaction. However, when I went in for my routine cleaning most recently, it left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). I was due for x-rays and when the hygienist asked if I had any areas of concern, I mentioned a small, painless white spot on my lower gums. The hygienist mentioned the X-ray showed “something funny” around that same tooth, but said Dr Candela would look at it when she came in. When she came in, I brought it up. She explained that it was actually bone cells and it can happen as a result of having braces at some point in your life or clenching/grinding teeth. This is where things got confusing for me. The hygienist pointed out the flagged area on the x-ray, which was deep in my gums at the base of the tooth’s bone, below the white spot. Dr Candela noted that it was “artifact” and began examining the rest of my mouth. Dr Candela began talking to me about a treatment called Curodont. She was telling me that it protects teeth by rebuilding enamel that’s been lost. She said it’s not covered by insurance because it’s only recently been approved by the FDA, so it would be an out of pocket expense if that’s something I’d like to pursue, and noted that the hygienist would go over the details with me. After she left, the hygienist reiterated that it will protect my teeth by helping to rebuild enamel, and asked if I wanted to go through with it. Thinking this would help with the affected area on my lower gums, I accepted. Curodont comes in packs of 3, but she said I only had one spot that was flagged on the x-ray so she’d find a few other places that looked at-risk to apply the other two packs. She began and was applying the Curodont to the teeth on my upper right side. I didn’t think much of it because she’d mentioned finding a few other places to apply the treatment. When she was finished, I asked her, “what about this bottom tooth?” And she replied, “oh, there’s no treatment for that.” And I said “oh, I’m confused what this treatment was for.” And she said “This was to help the enamel on your teeth to prevent cavities.” Then she handed me a piece of paper to sign with the cost of the treatment I had done. I asked again, “okay, so what exactly was this treatment for?” At this point, she showed me an area on my x-rays that flagged a spot on a singular tooth on my upper right side as at-risk for a cavity. This was the first explanation or acknowledgement made to me about that area. I did not mention nor complain about that tooth at any point leading up to this moment. I communicated that I thought the treatment was for the spot on my lower gums and that whenever the conversation shifted was very unclear to me. Truthfully, if I had understood what the $150 Curodont treatment was for, I most likely would have declined it and opted instead for the $12 fluoride toothpaste and to keep an eye on the area until my next cleaning. The AI x-ray technology has made errors in the past, including signaling that two of my teeth were fused together and the artifact notation Dr Candela referenced at this visit. I take responsibility to understand my own health and treatment before moving forward. However, a lack of communication about the affected area for the treatment proposed falls on the practice. As the experts in dental hygiene and health, it’s expected that they operate in the best interest of their patients - a goal that’s not possible to achieve without proper communication. Though the hygienist apologized for the confusion, there was no effort to remedy the circumstances and ultimately is why I’m leaving this review. I left feeling duped, and I never want to feel like that about my health care.

I asked for the foam Florida treatment. I was comfortable the whole time. Dr Candella takes her time examining my teeth at the end of the cleaning. All good. See you all in six months!

Positive experience: The dentist and hygienist were both lovely, which is why I gave 3 stars. The front desk person was late checking everyone in for the first appts of the day and was extremely rude to me over the phone when I had to call back to clarify my insurance info. I probably won’t go back because of my experience with her. It’s a shame because I really liked the dentist.

Fantastic experience: I tend to only leave reviews when they’re overly warranted (good or bad) and in this case a review is the absolute least I can do to show my appreciation. As someone who is naturally anxious and very “not with” dentist visits. I could not be more happy with the service I received. I’ve had a broken tooth with on and off pain for the past year and have absolutely refused to have it dealt with because of dentist anxiety. Long story short when I came around and went in for my check up and service, it was the most welcoming and comfortable dentist visit I’ve ever had. The staff could not have been any better. The level of care (physically and in support through procedure) was top tier. And every second I was in there I had a feeling of confidence and comfortability that I’ve never gotten out of any other dentist office. anything they could do to make me more comfortable was done. Anything from a pillow, to reassurance, to a break in service here and there when necessary and anything in between. They will help the best they can. It really feels like they strive for quality compassionate service to help your visit be as easy and personal as possible. For me that’s the most important thing I could ever ask for from a dentist visit and from now on this will be the only place I ever go.

Fantastic experience: I had a really positive experience with this dental office. Scheduling was easy, I was able to do it through text. The cleaning went well, the hygienist was kind and professional. The dentist explained things really well for my exam and differentiated when something was needed for health purposes as opposed to cosmetic purposes. Sometimes I feel like dental offices push procedures onto patients and I did not feel like that here. It was a great appointment.

Negative experience: My family has gone to Devine Dentistry way before Dr. Candela took over the practice. We absolutely loved our former dentist but he moved away. We continued here for awhile and then we began to have our doubts about it for the following reasons: 1. Many times I experienced other dental techs coming in and chatting with Dr. Candela while she was supposedly checking my teeth. They were not talking about anything to do with me and I wondered why this was happening. 2. My husband was charged for them using a new piece of equipment on him during his regular check-up. No one told him this would happen. He was also given some information about his dental care that we became skeptical. We left and found a terrific dentist and office staff and have gotten much better information.

She also provided me with a lot of information in regards to my treatment. The hygienist that worked with me was gentle and explained to me what was happening throughout the process of my examination. Dr. Candela was honest, intelligent, and very optimistic. She has a bright personality as well. I anxious prior to entering the door, but I felt comfortable from the moment I walked in and was greeted.

Every single person I interacted w/ was extremely patient, helpful, and kind, from the moment they picked up my initial phone call, until the moment I walked out of their door. They somehow got me in as a first time patient on a “same day” appointment, quickly and efficiently diagnosed my situation, provided a reasonable and realistic solution/game-plan, and got me scheduled for my next appointment less than a week after my initial appointment.
