Negative experience: The front desk staff are unfriendly and rude. Some of the providers are the same. With the name "Gentle Dental" you would think they would be gentle when working in your mouth or at least act like they care about your comfort.

Negative experience: Booked a cleaning by phone Hired a sitter. Sat there for half an hour before being told I needed to schedule a time to come back to get a cleaning because I'd been booked for an "exam" that requires another appointment another day. What a joke

Negative experience: I came into this office for a 9:30am Ortho appointment. I arrived at 9:25am checked in and waited 20 minutes before I checked in with the front desk to ask if Ortho was running late because after 20 minutes there was no communication and people who came in after me were called. The front office told me they could just give me trays and then I can leave but it’s my last set of trays so I asked if it would be better to be seen and she agreed I should be seen if it’s my last set of trays. I waited another 15 minutes with no communication and wasn’t seen until after 10am. This review is for the lack of communication from staff. As patients we are expected to arrive on time and communicate if we are late or be rescheduled but that same professionalism isn’t reciprocated by staff.

Fantastic experience: I got my braces here and I loved how personalized my care was! Appointments were frequent (4-6 weeks). I saw progress happening immediately. I finished my treatment months earlier than predicted. I loved being able to choose a different braces color every month. I even did 2 different colors once, that brought me joy. Hector was my favorite ortho assistant, he’s warm and he goes above and beyond. I also like how this place isn’t stingy with giving out elastics. I still have some littered around the house. The office is understanding about financial issues. My insurance changed suddenly 2 months into treatment, to 1 that the office doesn’t accept yet I was still able to pay off everything in time. Braces removal process went well, I got same day retainers. I love how the ortho explained things to me thoroughly. I also like how she gave me a choice of getting permanent retainers and explained to me the pros and cons, with footage. There are also retainer appointments to make sure everything’s going well

Negative experience: Nice people. The only reason I'm not leaving five stars is that I was told I had bone reduction but when the actual dentist checked, she said my teeth were within the normal range. They also told me Invisalign would prevent teeth grinding at night so I went for a referral appointment in Brighton but the provider there told me that wasn't true.

Fantastic experience: The hygienist who cleaned my teeth knew her stuff! And her personable attitude made me feel valued. And, yes, I appreciate the helpful tips on tooth care that she provided. All in all, the hygienist, the dentist, and their assistant were all very professional and kind. It is good to see, and experience, a business with heart!

Negative experience: I've visited here years ago, before they got really big. Loved it and felt like a community Dentist office. Left there recently, simply because of the rotation of the Dentists and botched work. Claimed that I had a cavity and recommended a Crown. Left and visited another Dentist and was told : 1. No cavity 2. Filling can be repaired. Now, that it has been "properly" fixed and no longer have problems. I should have left years ago.

Negative experience: I am writing to address a billing issue that has persisted for over five months, affecting both myself and my child. When we first registered as new patients, I was informed that sealants for my child would be covered under my Delta Dental insurance plan. However, a few weeks later, I received a bill totaling nearly $200. Since then, I have repeatedly attempted to reach the front desk staff to speak with a manager regarding this matter. I have left multiple messages requesting a follow-up, yet I have not received any response. This lack of communication has prompted both me and my child to seek care elsewhere. Additionally, my insurance company has advised me to request that your office resubmit the claim, as my child is a minor and the procedure should be covered. Unfortunately, I have not received any updates or assistance in resolving this issue despite my efforts. Moreover, I find it concerning that I cannot schedule a follow-up appointment without first settling a bill that remains unclear. I believe that it is essential for your front desk staff to be adequately trained in billing matters to provide accurate information and assistance to patients. I would appreciate an immediate response to this matter, along with a direct follow-up from a manager to help rectify this situation. Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue.

Negative experience: Dr. Ronit Smolyar is an exceptional endodontist, living up to her reputation as an adept dentist, recognized by Boston Magazine for consecutive years. The dental hygienist is equally impressive, providing thorough and patient care, which made my visits comfortable. However, my experience with the front desk staff was very disappointing. They seemed uncomfortable with insurance matters, leading to several inaccuracies in quotes. I was initially told I’d pay $7,000 for a root canal, which is far above the average cost of $600 to $1,600. After verifying my insurance, the actual cost was significantly lower. I had to correct the price multiple times for different visits, due to contradictions with my plan benefits document, which was frustrating. I advise potential visitors to double-check insurance coverage and get a clear cost breakdown before treatment. While Dr. Smolyar and the hygienist are excellent, the front desk’s handling of insurance needs improvement to ensure a smooth experience

Positive experience: It was very strange here. The dental hygienist and the doctor both seem to be really good, but they didn’t seem to know how the software worked or where the tools were. It’s a very convenient location, and everyone was very friendly! I feel satisfied with my care.

Negative experience: After booking an appointment online, I received multiple phone calls and text messages from the office asking to change the appointment. When I called back, I was told neither the appointment nor my profile is in the system. When asked if I could keep the appointment, I was not given an answer and told to unsubscribe from the text messages.

Negative experience: I don't have anything good to say about my visit today. I really feel that. This dentist is very expensive for no reason what so ever. No I will not be going there anymore. For the doctor not to do nit onething. Not one but charge me, one hundred and sixty eight dollars. For nothing unbelievable. Damn near 800 dollars for some puddy. Fantastic experience: Haven't been in a long time! Took x-rays and explained everything in depth as what needs to be done. Very understanding of my fear of the dentist! The front desk also signed me up for dental care and made an appointment with another doctor (Oral Health) at another location. She told me they are usually booked but was able to get me something sooner. Everyone was very professional and caring!

Negative experience: I initially had good experiences at Gentle Dental in JP, but things went downhill after I got a filling on my top left molar. The filling kept fracturing and chipping within six months, and I had to go back twice for repairs. The dentist made it seem like it was my fault, which was odd since I’ve never had this issue with other fillings. While I understand the importance of dental hygiene, it felt like they put all the blame on me for something I couldn’t control. This wasn’t my only bad experience, but it made me realize that my decision to leave Gentle Dental for another dental office was a good choice. I was prescribed a night guard for teeth grinding, which might have contributed to the filling issue. They told me my insurance wouldn’t cover it, so I paid nearly $800 out of pocket. Later, I found out from my insurance that they actually covered 80% of the cost, and I was due a partial refund. When I called Gentle Dental, they said their corporate office handles refunds, but it’s been almost a month, and I still haven’t received anything. I would give 1 star but the dental hygienist who I regularly saw for teeth cleaning appointments was really nice and did a good job.

Negative experience: I was not happy with my recent appointment with a specialist at Gentle Dental. First of all, this office requires a deposit of $150 just to make an appointment with a specialist. I have never encountered this demand anywhere else and wonder if it is even legal. I am not someone who has ever made an appointment and not shown up, so I find it demeaning to be required to pay a deposit just to make an appointment. Then I was required to pay the rest of the bill when I arrived in the office for the appointment, before the procedure was done. As it turned out, the procedure could not be completed at this visit, for a reason the dentist said is quite common, and I had to make another appointment in two weeks. So I have now paid $955 for a procedure that has not been done. I have also been in quite a bit of pain since the appointment, and I was not in pain beforehand. The dentist was new to me, and she did not even tell me her name and spoke to me very little. She may be a very fine dentist, but I think her patient communication skills are rather lacking. The only positive aspect of the visit was the dental assistant, who has helped me before and is mature, experienced, and kind. I am always glad when she is by my side. Otherwise, I feel I was not well treated at this appointment.

Negative experience: Everyone that I know that has gone to Gentle Dental has had issues with Gentle Dental. Booking you the wrong type of appointment, last minute reschedules, insurance being billed incorrectly. Would not recommend this practice at all. Out of the 3 appointments we have had between myself and my partner, they have messed up multiple things with all 3 appointments.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to GD for ortho over the last 2.5 years. They’ve always been great with their work and patient care. I always feel welcomed and rarely have had long wait times. I got my braces removed last week and I am very happy with the results. I keep looking at my teeth each time I floss/brush in awe of how great they look. I wish they took my insurance so I could go for cleanings as well, hopefully one day in the future.

Not only did i move my schedule around and show up early to my appointment i was told everyone left 2 hours early than the posted close sign, the front desk had no respect or regard for me as a new patient. Literally no information what a huge waste of time. Do Not Visit this location, the poor customer service is beyond anything ive experienced.

Negative experience: During my first routine check-up here, Dr. Badve told I had a cavity (which I did) and suggested I get immediate filling. Mid-procedure, she said I emergently needed a root canal on that tooth bc the cavity was very deep. Seeking a second opinion from Tufts Dental, they simply filled the tooth, advising that I had been misinformed about needing a root canal.

His assistant was so kind and patient with me, especially because I was terrified heading into emergency dental surgery. She held my hand and ensured I was in a good headspace before proceeding - I can’t thank her enough! I was in and out faster than we all expected and healed without a single complication. The reception staff is super helpful, friendly, and made sure my insurance was corrected so I didn’t have to pay wildly out of pocket. The office is CLEAN, tidy and always has the best playlists playing throughout the office! Positive experience: Dentists are nice and personable but the receptionists are a bit rude. Only woman at the desk who was kind and worked with me was Nancy. She explained costs, answered questions I had in a kind manner and I never felt like a bother. I dont know the name of the other lady at the desk but a couple times I've called she was quick/short with me, kind of made me feel like I was an inconvenience and was quick to hang up the phone. One small issue I had was getting my dental plan emailed to me and after inquiring about it for a couple weeks, I had them send it to another email and turns out they had my email spelt wrong on file. The woman I spoke to gave me attitude, made it seem like me having her resend the info was a bother to her and she was quick to hang up. When I came in person, I had Nancy check me in and help me out and she was able to change my email on file and was very sweet about it. The other lady was far from being a people person and has poor customer service like why even work front desk? Every time I have to call, I'm just hoping I get Nancy and not the other woman. Two different dentists gave me conflicting information regarding which dental plan I would need but I understand things happen. Overall the dentists were kind to me but it makes the world of a difference when your first interaction with the company is distasteful and makes it hard advocating for services you need.

Negative experience: I went to Gentle Dental a decade ago. I had a tooth removed by a young BU trained dentist that a more experienced dentist subsequently told me was removed unnecessarily. The screw for the implant was too short and the implant became essentially useless. When I called this office recently for the implant manufacturer's name, the office didn't even try to help. They just said we don't have those records. I think the office is more like a beauty salon where dentists rent the chairs so no continuity of care and certainly poor record keeping. Not the best quality dentists either judging my my experience.

Positive experience: The Lady taking care of me was very clumsy. She banged the back of the chair and my head bounced. She said sorry. And she banged my teeth with the little mirror instrument.

Negative experience: Another waisted appointment. Took a day off work, traveled for an hour in horrific travel. Only to be told they couldn’t do my appointment because they missed a step in the process. I have lost complete confidence in this place. Its one thing after another. So fed up!

Negative experience: Every time I have an appointment here they call me the day before to reschedule. They are either intentionally overbooking or they don't have a good grasp on scheduling. Either way I'm not going back.

Fantastic experience: All of the staff at this branch are lovely! They were really interested in me and my dental work, and made me feel really welcome! They explained to me differing types of insurance and always seemed willing to keep the price I pay as low as possible, which was really lovely! My cleaning was fantastic, and the lady that did it was really kind and kept me calm throughout the entire appointment. It's been a few days and my teeth still feel as clean and strong as they did when she first did it! I will return before I leave just so I can go home with fantastic teeth! Thank you so much :)

Negative experience: They sent me a bill me for x-rays that my insurance had already paid for. When I called Gentle Dental to find out why I had been billed, they said they would call me back, and never did. I am now trying to switch to a new dentist and have my x-rays transferred. I have called several times now and they have still not even emailed me the form so that I can request for my x-rays to be sent.

Positive experience: Tremendous care and knowledge! I felt very comfortable! If you follow through with their suggested care, you’re next visit gets even easier! I had a bit of a long wait in the lobby, but other than that everyone was kind!

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience in this office. I had my cleaning with Tanika the hygienist, she is awesome, she cares about patients and does a great cleaning. Also that day i had an exam with Dr. Talati, she is so sweet and kind. Friendly environment i loved it!!!
