Experiencia fantástica: I have been going to this office for decades. The two previous dentists have retired turning the business over to Dr Wong. Everything about the office is great. My hygienist is Helen. She's fantastic: thorough, gentle and also very nice. Dr Wong is great. I just had a filling replaced. I was not looking forward to that process but Dr Wong did a great job. He didn't rush the job, observed when I needed a quick break from the process and made sure I felt no pain. I love this practice!

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been seeing Dr. Wong for two years for checkups and a couple of fillings, and I highly recommend him. He said I could have my fillings done with very localized anesthesia. I said yes, and he was incredibly gentle and fast. No discomfort, and no numbness in my jaw, so I was actually able to go to lunch immediately afterwards. For my teeth cleaning, I usually see Helen and she is great too. The whole staff is friendly and efficient. My wife and daughter also see Dr. Wong and Helen.

Experiencia fantástica: I have gone to this dental practice for 25+ years under the former now retired and amazing Dr. Kris Hamamoto. Now Dr. Wong has taken over the practice and is no less amazing. I am thrilled with the quality of his care and his gentle demeanor. I have super sensitive gums and teeth and Dr. Wong is exquisitely careful and gentle. His injections hurt the least and my fear is way down. His work is impeccable and I could not be happier. He also inquired about my wellbeing a number of times during the procedure which assured me even further. My drive from San Francisco is a small price to pay for such excellent care. I also want to acknowledge the wonderful dental hygienists Angelica and Helen who are entirely devoted to the patient and clean my teeth to near perfection. Overall this is a spectacular dental practice and I shall never go anywhere else.

Experiencia fantástica: Until recently I'd mostly only had experience with Angelisa, who is such a great hygienist that I literally looked forward to cleanings as a relaxing pleasure -- sort of like relaxation therapy with ultrasonic scaling! :-) I fortunately hadn't had much experience with Dr. Wong, but my sweetened coffee habit finally caught up with me, and I collected up a bunch of fillings, as well as some old filling removal, and got it done all at once just a couple days ago. I was sort of trepadatious ... tripadaucious ... triceratops ... scared! ... because it was a lot of work all at once, and took an hour and a half, but Dr. Wong, and his assistant, Jamal, were really terrific! Very efficient, always checking up on how I was doing, warning me what's to come next -- and everything got done perfectly. (Jamal is amazing -- they barely spoke to one another but Jamal had, like, the next thing Dr. Wong needed right there for him at the right moment like clockwork!) The one detail worth mention is that I don't think that Dr. Wong is in plan on any of the standard insurance, so although you'll get some reimbursement, the work isn't fully covered by a co-pay. But if you are willing to pay a little more, and get super terrific attention and outcomes, Wong's team get my strongest possible endorsement.

I take this as a good thing, because this reassures me that he isn't trying to make the most profit from me. My impression is someone who is acting in my best interest. I also think she is clever and able to think outside the box. Recently, when I developed pain in my gums between two teeth, she gave me a small soft toothbrush designed for a 2-year old because it would be easier for me to brush around this sensitive area.

She was willing to allow my wife to have an inlay done without xylocain and me with a cavity -- showed great patience. She loves the art and craft of making the perfect inlay or crown or whatever it is. Keeps up with newer technology and is internet savvy. Can't go wrong. The teeth cleaners there are very clean and thorough. My previous one at another place was so soft and gentle but my teeth did not get fully clean. Now I have no bleeding and gums have restored to good health. Today I was made a king, she said, as I got a perfectly fitting crown. She makes it look easy. Dr Wong is the new guy on the chair! I find him very skilled and competent and very gentle and considerate for the wellbeing of me and my wife. He explained what he was doing clearly and told me where I needed to water floss better. He comes from a family of dentists and can even do the implants. I can’t imagine anyone better!

Just an update: I’ve had a few fillings and a wisdom tooth extraction from Dr. Yen. He’s still the best dentist! For detailed reasons see below. But in brief he is efficient, gentle, has excellent bedside manner and does great work. His hygienist is also fantastic. The receptionists are prompt and friendly. Love Dr. Yen and friends and have recommended it to anyone who’s brought up dentistry with me. Initial review: I have Dr Yen as my dentist. Unequivocally, he is the best dentist I have had. There are several reasons for my saying this. Below are these reasons broken into categories (so you can look at what you want to know most about Dr Yen and the Kris Hamamoto office) Dental health education/bedside manner: Dr Yen (Alex) explained everything about my dental health with photographs of my teeth, a dental model, and detailed descriptions. He used this info to not only direct my future dental work (a few fillings) but also to help me focus on problem areas that I wasn’t getting clean enough in my daily oral routine. He explained everything without assuming I should just know this, and he didn’t insult my intelligence either. I think he balanced his communications like this with me so well because of his true care for my dental health. His assistant, Laura, was also excellent about answering my questions in a clear and friendly manner. Transparency of diagnosis: I have had dentist in the past who look at my teeth and my X-rays and then just tell me what I need done. Although Alex did tell me quickly what I should do, he also asked me if I would like to see why he suggested what I needed done. He then showed me the images and explained what I needed. The previous dentist I had gone to tried to upsale me to more expensive dental work, but Dr Yen explained my options with pros and cons. It’s refreshing to have this conversation and have options (not be stuck with the black box of diagnosis). Actual dental work and cost: Both my cleaning and fillings were painless. Dr Yen and Laura are gentle and efficient. They’re also good about telling you what to expect next, so no surprises! Time for two visits/five fillings (including 2 deep/in between teeth fillings) was a little less than 2hrs. And this time is including anesthesia and the time, in which he waited, for me to become completely numb. The fillings themselves are perfect: smooth, no burrs or bite issues, no shredding of floss in between them. There was a little cold sensitivity on my deep fillings the first couple days, but that’s cleared up too. Based on the cost of my two previous dentists, Dr Yen is also the cheapest pre-insurance (~half the cost). So overall, excellent painless work at a completely reasonable cost. Office/scheduling: The office staff are super-friendly and efficient! Mave is always upbeat, helpful and patient (which I need because I tend to be a real space cadet). I was able to get the appointments that I wanted, get the itemized receipts I needed for my claims, and have it all done quickly and courteously. The facility is sparkling clean, and there is a beautiful tropical saltwater aquarium and nice little garden. The whole atmosphere puts me at ease, which is good because I’ve never liked going to doctors/dentists and am usually quite anxious in these types of facilities. Overall: I love this dentist office. Dr Yen, Laura, Mave and the rest of the staff are just fantastic! I have recommended this office to my friends, coworkers and family that live in the Bay Area. Follow up: went in for my cleaning last week and again, everything perfect. Great scheduling/intake service, gentle but thorough cleaning. Dr Yen’s advice has my teeth in great shape and I’m feeling very positive about my dental hygiene. Thanks again!

Experiencia fantástica: I was seeing Dr. Alex Yen for a while before moving to LA. Great experience with him and the office staff. Very friendly, comfortable, felt well-informed and taken care of.

Experiencia negativa: Wrote an honest review (the only honest review it seems) about how much of a disappointment, a failure, a waste of time, and a mess this place is. Don’t go here if you want good communication and appointment planning from the office. Don’t go here if you want a good cleaning and a professional, thorough job. Don’t go here if you don’t want to spend four months playing phone and e-mail tag with a rude, unprofessional, and highly incompetent front desk and dentist. Don’t go here if you don’t want to waste your time. I was literally just extorted by Dr. Hamamoto personally. She is supposed to provide dental trays to me as per my last service with her. She sent me this email which says verbatim, “we can get your trays done in about a weeks time if you consider modifying your review”. Is that crazy or what?! She is literally extorting her clients/patients so that they aren’t able to get the dental care they need unless they falsify a review. Not only did her office lose important dental records (be wary if she suddenly demands a complete redo of your xrays for all of your teeth for some far-fetched claim that she drops immediately upon questioning), falsifies your information (be wary of her scheduling appointments without letting you know and then impersonating you in order to falsify your receipt, acknowledgement and confirmation of said appointment and who knows what else), and then extorts you for a good google review. Insane. I will try my best to make sure the screenshot of her email to me just now does not get censored out. I know on yelp any bad news gets immediately censored or pushed to the bottom or to “not recommended reviews” to help out the business and bury the truth and any honest exposures by clients/patients.

Experiencia positiva: This office is great. Friendly, professional, kind and EFFECTIVE. No other dentist's office I would want to go to. The cleanings are well done and the time flies. The more extensive dental work is as close to painless as I know and lasts. Both my wife and I have been going there for years.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently had a tooth break. I was able to quickly get an appointment, a quick diagnosis as to what could be done, have a temporary crown, followed by a permanent crown. Dr Hamamoto is an excellent Dentist!
