Experiencia fantástica: This is our second time using Dr. Joel and Westerville Pediatric Dentistry to release oral ties in our babies. Both times they have been very professional, answered all our questions, and did not pressure us to make a decision, simply gave us the information. Would reccomend to anyone!

Experiencia positiva: Overcharge for services by 30%. Failed to send me X-rays that I had paid for to get a second opinion. Gave them months to do so. Dentist over diagnosed cavities to be able to charge extra. Staff was judgmental when I questioned them and the dentist. Update* Joel reached out, his staff had the wrong email and sent it to someone else. I have improved the review to 3 stars because the pricing mark up is significant and as many “higher end” dentists do they upsell you things that are not needed.

Experiencia fantástica: Love this dentist! My 3 year old and 5 year old go here and they are so patient and kind when the kids are having any fear/anxiety. We have had multiple assistants and they have all been phenomenal. They give the kids sunglasses for the light and let them hold a little squishy. The dentist has a bubble machine and the whole time the staff is talking with the kids and making them feel comfortable. They have tree house in the waiting room and then tvs on above the dental chairs.

Experiencia fantástica: Honestly amazing service. My son is 4yo, has limited verbal communication, and is diagnosed with level 3 autism. We've gone to Dr. Joel for three visits so far, and each time, it seems like the office is more prepared for us than the last, setting up a private room for us with all of the comforts my child needs, being patient as we adjust to the space, and being so quick and efficient with cleanings. I'm so impressed. We've been to many providers for lots of different therapies and medical appointments and have never had such personalized experience. I would recommend this practice to anyone nervous about taking their special needs child to the dentist.

Everyone there is so helpful and always smiling. It is well worth the 30+ minute drive to be treated with kindness and exceptional care. Our daughter is always excited to go to the dentist. If we could give 100 stars we would! Hands down amazing.

Experiencia fantástica: After having a frustrating experience at another pediatric dentist (namely with their insurance policy) we happily switched to Westerville Pediatric Dental. The front desk staff were kind and welcoming, our kids loved the waiting room/play area, our dental hygienist was professional, warm, and great with our kids, and Dr. Joel was fun and knowledgeable (a great balance for parents and kids). Who doesn't love a doctor who comes into the room with a bubble wand? 10/10 recommend!

Experiencia negativa: Came to this dentist office to have a cavity filled that turned into a whole mouth of work, most likely unnecessarily. The next well visit was a new problem which I promptly left. The new dental office saw no problems just some watch spots that have turned into no new dental issues. Now over a year later, the new dentist is fixing the work of this dental office as my daughter now has an abscess due to the crown Dr. Joel put on. Rather than it saving her tooth, she now has to have it pulled and the fillings he did are not adequate and its visible on the x-rays and need fixed. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

She even remembered that our son loves Monster Jam from his cleaning 6 months ago and had it on for him! Our 4 year old is so comfortable with her! Everything was great as usual, even staring with the warm welcome from Gretchen when we checked in! We cannot recommend Dr. Joel and his office enough!

Dr. Joel answered all my questions and called me the next day after the procedure to check in even though it was a holiday. The procedure made a huge difference for her!! Highly, highly recommend!!

Experiencia fantástica: My toddler was referred to Westerville Pediatric Dental from our primary dental office and just WOW what an amazing experience. They were able yo get us in quickly for a consult, we barely waited to the point I barely got the intake paperwork started. I understand we came in the morning, mid week but everyone was so efficient. The dental assistant, whom I wish I could remember her name, was so welcoming and sweet. Then came Dr. Joel… the only word that comes to mind is FANTASTIC! He definitely made an impression on my toddler, because she told her tooth doctor was fun. Dr. Joel was clear with what was happening and provided a plan of action for my toddlers tooth. Definitely recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: I have an extremely introverted child. The play area definitely loosened her up for her first visit. Thankfully we got there a little early so she could enjoy it for a couple of minutes, because they were on time with her appointment!! Something that seems more and more uncommon at places these days. Dental assistant was patient with a great "chair-side" manner. The dentist was equally friendly. My kiddo is actually looking forward to going back. In and out....well done!

Experiencia fantástica: My 14 week old was recommended by a lactation consultant for a tongue, lip and both cheek ties which we found from bottle refusal when I went back to work after maternity leave. Dr. Joel was amazing confirming and identifying the ties. He did the procedure that same day. Even came in the room with a Mickey Bubble wand. He takes his time to listen and explain in detail any questions you have. So glad we were recommended to him. My baby is now taking a bottle 4 weeks post procedure! Also immediately after she had the procedure done, the next day she was finally talking and babbling which she didn’t do before. Thank you Dr. Joel & team!!

Experiencia fantástica: My kiddos have terrible anxiety with going to the dentist. Our previous dental practice was unable to complete the work they needed to get done because of their "behavior" (as they phrased it to me, in front of them) so they recommended doing the dental work under sedation and provided a list of dental offices that provide this level of care, Westerville Pediatric Dental being one of them. They first did a consult which included x-rays with a different view and confirmed the plan. For the procedures, while my kids will still anxious (one of them only a little, the other nearly inconsolable), they were able to get the work done, saving ME the stress, not to mention a lot of money (if we needed sedation). I can't thank them enough for the relief I felt! Dr. Joel, Melissa, and the other staff are kind, patient, and efficient. They calmly explained everything to the kids in ways they can understand (unlike the other dental practice). My kids even expressed their strong preference for Westerville Pediatric Dental, and I am happy to say Dr. Joel will be our dentist moving forward!

Experiencia fantástica: Best pediatric facility ever!! I needed someone to work on my 7 year old daughter and didn't feet comfortable with anyone local. After a lot of research, Westerville Pediatric and Dr Joel kept rising to the top. We traveled almost 2 hours and had the best possible outcome. I couldn't be happier with how they treated my daughter and the treatment plan they came up with. Everything was over the top, IN THE BEST WAY. Bubbles when entering the room, characters around the office, prizes, and even the "fun" language they used during procedures and explaining concepts. I truly appreciate getting us an appointment in a very reasonable amount of time and making sure my daughter was taken care of the day of her appointment. Thank you Dr Joel, Melissa and the rest of the staff :) We will be seeing you soon!

Dr. Joel is an outstanding communicator—he’s clear, transparent, and always makes you feel comfortable. Growing up, I was a patient here and had multiple cleanings and fillings done. I was always informed about exactly what was going on. They take the time to show you your X-rays and provide helpful, easy-to-understand pamphlets on how to prevent cavities or address other tooth conditions your child may have, which I found extremely beneficial. As a current student at OSU with aspirations of becoming a dentist, I’ve been fortunate that Dr. Joel has graciously welcomed me into his office multiple times. He’s given me the rare opportunity to observe, ask questions, and gain real-world insight into the field of dentistry. From being on the flip side and shadowing the team, I’ve seen firsthand how the office operates. The staff genuinely puts patients first, every decision they make is centered around ensuring patients and their families have a positive, comfortable experience. It’s been an awesome experience that I truly appreciate! I highly recommend this office, you’ll be in excellent hands and won’t be disappointed!

Experiencia positiva: Detailed information about the process of becoming a new patient. I recently moved to the area. I have two toddlers. They both became so patient. Each toddler completed the dental exam in the exam room chair. Usually I have to move to another room and hold my toddler down for the routine dental exam. It was a smile that I couldn't explain as a mom.

Experiencia negativa: I recently took my kids here after my dentist referred me to a pediatric dentist for my kids. The first appointment I was told my son had 6 cavities and my daughter had 8. I went for a second opinion and they said they needed more x rays in order to diagnose. After the x rays were taken I was told my son had no cavities, only several watch spots and my daughter had three cavities… I am disappointed that proper x rays hadn’t been taken at Westerville pediatric dental. I would rather go somewhere more conservative. Would not recommend this place.

We also felt they were very thorough with her after care and Dr. Joel even called himself to check on her. We had a very good experience and I'd recommend using them in the future.

Experiencia negativa: On March 31, 2024 a parent contacted this entity and the receptionist advised that "BY LAW" the dental offices were not able to see a child with special needs that has MEDICAID and will not accept out of pocket payments for the parents because a "JUDGE called us and told us that it was against the law, I'm sorry!" This is blatant DISCRIMINATION and UNLAWFUL PRACTICES. THERE IS NO SUCH LAW. The receptionist went on to note after being educated and informed of the several complaints that will be filed to bring authority and PUBLIC NOTICE of these bad business and discriminatory practices against vulnerable populations that "Oh see we just assumed it was against the law because a mom brought the child in and the Dad reported her so the Judge called us". PUBLIC - this is an example of PROFILING AND TARGETING OF VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. This entity ONLY cares about SPECIAL NEEDS children that do have medicaid but care enough to pay out of pocket for their child's dental health as need be at least for a initial evaluation. The parents noted they would NEVER recommend this disgusting business and will be reporting their misinformation and low quality business practices on public record so no parent or special needs child in need of support is harmed

Experiencia fantástica: We have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr. Joel and his staff. Immediately entering the office, we were met with a clean and cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. We were quick to be checked in for our visit, which was a consultation for our newborn (tongue and lip tie). Taken to a beautiful suite for our consult, everything was explained thoroughly and any questions answered. After review by Dr. Joel, it was determined that a release of both lip and tongue were recommended. They offered same day treatment for that which was great since we are over an hour away from home. The release took seconds and when we entered the suite again, it was so reassuring to see that Dr. Joel was already offering comfort to our crying babe by swaying and shushing. After the revision, we were able to stay in the suite as long as we needed to feed and comfort our baby. Complete with a comfortable rocking chair and changing table. I think it’s so important that in any office setting you are met with people who you automatically feel comfortable with and trust. That is exactly was this office offered. Highly recommended!

Experiencia negativa: Our first few experiences were good with Dr. Joel. Most recently visits have felt rushed without them properly cleaning my children’s teeth and we’ve felt like things have not been properly explained. We had a check up 4 weeks ago and they said my kids had no cavities. Fast forward 3 weeks and my daughter starts complaining about her tooth. We take her in and her tooth is so infected with a cavity that it needs to be extracted. Cavities don’t happen that fast, meaning they missed this on her last visit. We take her in for the extraction, Dr. Joel doesn’t even tell my daughter to sit still or ask my husband to hold her down before attempting numb her and he accidentally jabbed her lip with the numbing needle. 4 days later and her lip is still black and blue. Feel like this office is just too busy and won’t be back.

Last year Dr. Joel did my daughter lip/tongue tie revision when she was a baby and I was very impressed with him and his office. Fast forward my daughter and her twin brother are now 20 months and I decided to returned back to Dr. Joel office for my twins first dental appointment. We no longer live in the area but I was willing to drive 40 minutes to see him and it was worth the drive! Dr. Joel and his staff were absolutely amazing with my 1 year old twins. When we first arrived they received balloons to play with and also got to play with bubbles. They both did so well on exam and cleaning, I was actually very impressed! We will definitely be back in 6 months for our next cleaning. I would highly recommend their office to anyone looking for a pediatric dentist and also would highly recommend Dr. Joel for lip/tongue tie revisions!

Experiencia negativa: I would absolutely NOT recommend this pediatric dentist. I scheduled a regular appointment and when I got there they gave her a ballon and looked at her gums and that was it. They upcoded to my dental insurance saying they did an emergency procedure when they did not. They refused to refund the money I paid or to rebill my insurance for the correct exam because that’s all they did was look at her mouth, they did not perform an emergency procedure on my one year old. Also the girls at the front desk are extremely rude.

The tree house was fun, he got a balloon, the doctor came flying in the bubbles, what more could a 2 year old ask for. They were on-time, clean and quick! So happy we found this practice. Everything is explained in a very calm and easy-to-understand fashion so there were no unwelcome surprises for the kids. My son had two adult teeth come in behind baby teeth, they quickly identified a solution and were able to pull both baby teeth on the spot.. as a first time patient, we were still in and out in under an hour and my extremely skeptical, cautious son left happy as a clam! No pain and minimal bleeding.

We were in a tough situation with another dentist refusing to treat our child after she passed out from a shot. I called here, hoping they would be able to do the two required fillings. The person who answered the phone was thorough, collected all the information, and then wanted to check with Dr. Richards before saying yes. She got back with me that yes, he was not concerned and would be happy to complete the two fillings my daughter needed. She was very reassuring that they see patients like this all the time. When we went it, Dr. Richards and his assistant had zero drama and also zero trepidation. In same crazy way, their confidence translated to me and my daughter. He very quickly explained that he would give her laughing gas just to keep her calm; she didn't need to breath differently or "do" anything and it would do its job. The other dentist had told us the fillings were deep and would need two shots, but he said they were small and shallow and he didn't need to give her any shots. In 15 minutes, he was done, no shots needed, and my daughter's two fillings were done! We couldn't stop smiling! An utterly painful situation turned out to be a joy! The bonus is now we've met Dr. Richards, and he kindly treats kids with dentist anxiety through college! What a gift! If you're in need of a pediatric dentist, I absolutely recommend him and the practice. It is absolutely patient-first and the most positive and kind people work there!

Experiencia fantástica: I was nervous to take my daughter to her first dentist appointment, but was almost instantly made at ease. My daughter ran straight into the magical treehouse before she was seen. Everyone who worked there seemed very friendly especially all the ladies in the front. Dr. Richards did really well making my daughter smile immediately upon meeting by blowing bubbles towards her. She surprisingly stayed calm for her first teeth cleaning…It was either Dr.Richards goofiness or the episode of Bluey iPad above him. I am very impressed with them taking her picture of her appointment and giving me a copy. Such a cute keepsake! I can’t say enough good things about this place! I wish adult dentist offices were like this!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr Joel and his team are amazing with children! Our 3 year old has had significant dental issues due to underlying issues, and they’ve taken excellent care of him. The atmosphere is exceptionally inviting to children, and I feel confident that our son is getting the very best care.

Experiencia fantástica: Recently took our daughter to her first dental appointment. Felt very comfortable with the staff and the amazing office. They have a super fun treehouse to play in while you wait. Dr. Joel is awesome with little ones, he entered the room blowing bubbles which made my daughter light up right away. At the end they give you keepsakes/pictures which will go right in the baby book. We had some insurance questions at the end that Gretchen cleared up, no sweat. She was very patient with us. Overall a 10/10 experience, really glad we found this gem.

Experiencia fantástica: Westerville Pediatric Dental is fantastic! Dr. Joel did a great job keeping our daughter distracted with fun bubbles during our visit. The office is beautiful. The tree house is a hit! Gretchen was super helpful with answering billing questions and the front desk gals made the scheduling process a breeze. The staff is friendly and made us feel comfortable. I highly recommend this office.

Experiencia negativa: Save yourself the time, money and headache and do not go to the place. I have never been disrespected and treated so poorly by a dental office before much less a pediatric dentist that I entrusted with the care of my child. The office staff especially Gretchen are a bunch of horrible, lying, rude, nasty, unintelligent human beings who clearly do not know how to do their jobs and from their attitudes almost take pleasure in screwing families with young children over. My child had his tongue and lip ties removed and the office put me in a position that forced me to pay for this procedure out of pocket when I was told by them it would be covered at 80% by my dental insurance and refusing to take my medical insurance. Not only did they screw me over for hundreds of dollars but also informed me in the midst of speaking with them that it’s not their job to inform me of the cost it’s my fault that they insurance estimate was incorrect because “I didn’t do my homework and should have known it would be covered under medical insurance” which they refused to take! I have never been so disgusted with a medical institution before 1000% do not recommend entrusting these people with the care of your child if this is how they treat people. Absolutely disgusted.

Experiencia fantástica: Seamless experience for our little guy’s first trip to the dentist. Everything was clean, everyone was friendly. There’s a little treehouse in the lobby; my son played there while I did new patient paperwork. The hygienist and dentist were great with my son. He’s 20 months and despite not being a particularly cooperative patient, everyone was kind and patient with him while he screamed his heart out :)

Experiencia negativa: It’s taken me a few months to write this review. I had to take some time to cool off and reflect. I am disappointed in the office staff on how they handled a mistake that happened because they did not do their due diligence. We ended up paying out of pocket for a routine visit that would have been fully covered by insurance had the office staff scheduled the visit within appropriate time frame. Called the office to ask clarifying questions about the out of pocket expenses because prior visits were paid in full by insurance. No one was able to clearly and confidently inform me. I was told to call my insurance, in which I did and got direct answers. I called the office staff back and spoke with Gretchen. She was rude, insensitive, and lacked accountability. She stated it was ultimately the patients responsibility to schedule visits according to insurance rules when policies and procedures should be in place to prevent unnecessary out of pocket expenses. She is the insurance and scheduling coordinator and she failed to do her job. A simple apology would have been nice and a discount greater than 10% off the bill for having dental insurance. Dr. Richards and other dental staff are amazing, but due to this mishap we will no longer bringing our kids here or making referrals.

Experiencia fantástica: We’ve loved our experiences thus far with 2 special needs kiddos. The office is fun and kid focused and everyone from the dentist to the office staff are so kind. They also have more availability than many pediatric offices in the area. No other dentist I know makes his entrance with a bubbles- they really go out of their way to make it a good experience for the kids ❤️

Experiencia fantástica: My 5 year old is always hesitant about appointments of any kind unless it’s here at Westerville pediatric dental. He loves getting to play before and loves all the staff who treat him like their own. I don’t dread taking him to the dentist because he is so comfortable with everyone there. I don’t usually write reviews but they deserve it! 5 stars is not enough.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Joel was awesome! Our daughter gives him a two thumbs up and so do we. Very friendly, great with kids and took the time to turn a consultation into a procedure so we wouldn’t have to drive back from an hour away. The office is super clean, very nicely decorated, the tree house is a fun touch for kids. Staff was very helpful and friendly. If we ever need a pediatric dentist again, we will be back.

Experiencia fantástica: We had to transfer to this dentist last year when our dentist office didn't tell us till a regular visit they were no longer accepting our insurance and thought I was going to pay out of pocket for the visit. This is the BEST office ever. My kids do not complain about going to the dentist at all anymore. The staff is wonderful!

Experiencia fantástica: Dental visits can be scary for my children, but they are a VERY patient and understanding staff who truly know how to work with children. Everything is designed for children, from the waiting area, to the service rooms. A true pediatric office and welcoming environment.

Experiencia fantástica: Our kids love this dentist and his staff. When I take them in, their first question is usually, "Will he bring the bubbles this time?!" And Dr. Richards always does. :) WPD is fast, efficient, and communicative and they really turn the regular dentist visits into a special place, rather than a chore. Many thanks!

Experiencia fantástica: I was referred by a girlfriend of mine who said she had a great experience. Her little one started nursing without any problems afterwards. I held off because I didn’t believe my little guy had any issues latching, nursing ect. I finally hit the bullet when I felt he wasn’t getting enough nutrition and was having issues. For example, there would be dribble, hiccups immediately after (air), and would fall asleep shortly after. He’s only 24 hrs out from “surgery” but seems to be doing great. Dr. Joel is a really great guy and called today to check on how things were progressing. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend this office and Dr. Joel and his team. They were truly wonderful and made the process quick and easy.

Experiencia fantástica: Wow! What an amazing office from the the first call to schedule through to the bubble filled visit with the Dr. Richards. Everyone in the office has the same enthusiasm and made it such a fun experience for all 3 of my kids. They even managed to clean the teeth of my sleeping 5 year old son. My kids loved their time at the dentist❤️

Experiencia fantástica: Their new office space is very inviting for both kids and parents. They have a treehouse for kids to enjoy in the waiting room as well as a tv with a kids movie playing. Above each dental chair is a tv as well so kids are occupied when their teeth are being cleaned. Each kid is provided with a goodie bag and a prize upon completing their visit. Staff is friendly and my 4 year old enjoys going to the dentist

Experiencia fantástica: Took my 3 year old son for his first dental visit and the whole experience was awesome. Staff and the doctor was very sweet and friendly, my son was happy all the time and really enjoyed being there with them. He had fun with the tree house, received a balloon, his own photo frame and also gift for being cavity free. Doctor cleaned his teeth nicely and there was no rejection from my son any time during the process. Really recommend this place and the team, my son is excited and already asking about our next visit.

Experiencia fantástica: Love the reception dentist and assistant!!! So kid friendly and they are so sweet and helpful! They don’t make you feel horrible when your kid is screaming! Nor do they criticize you for the teeth not being perfect! My son is a screamer and kicker and hates brushing his teeth! They are the dream team and absolutely amazing!
