My teen being on the spectrum makes things a little harder, and he really had a great experence. My boys really had such a good and thorough visit!

We have been with Alexandria Children's Dentistry for years, with all of our children, and even when we moved out of Alexandria, we still stayed with them. It is hard to find good dentists that you can trust, and I highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.

Experiencia negativa: Worth the read! I have union insurance. It’s a little different. I know first hand how different it is. So I always try to tell people how to bill it correctly. First issue with them was during Covid. They billed my insurance wrong and lied about it. I had my visit and a year later got a charge for the whole thing. My insurance denied the claim because it was a year old when they received it. I called the dentist and they lied several times claiming they filed it electronically the day of my visit. However, my insurance doesn’t do e file for dental. It’s all paper. By the time the dentist office figured that out, it was a year later. So they lied and gaslit me. My insurance company urged me to appeal it because she knew they were lying. Fast forward to a few years later my son had some “growth” in his mouth. They referred me to THEIR group of oral surgeons, preferring that I see them. For a kickback likely. My insurance dictated otherwise. The surgeon we went to was pissed we wasted his time, telling us that this was an extreme overabundance of caution. Thirdly! My son needed a tooth pulled. You could visibly see the tooth growing in behind another tooth. He complained of other teeth hurting. And without xrays the dentist confirmed he needed the outgrown tooth pulled and his top two teeth pulled for the same reason. They scheduled an appointment for a month out and were to follow up with me as far as cost. Here is where it gets tricky. They recently went out of network for me,within the last 6 mo. I was aware. I knew I would pay more, but I didn’t have time to find an in network dentist, because he urgently neeeed his teeth pulled—-so I thought. I had to chase these people down on the phone for weeks to get an estimate. I even checked with my insurance company. Their prices were always grossly over exaggerated, even AFTER I said and my insurance faxed over what they would cover. (They cover nitrous and out of network to a certain %, like 70) they never could give me a $ amount so the day of they tried to act stupid like I hadn’t been in contact with everyone there. They wanted to charge $800. I was livid and caused a scene. So they tried to calm me down and take him to the back to do a xray while we figured things out. They Didn’t tell me the findings and continued to pull his teeth right after. That was July ‘25. He never needed his top teeth pulled. They just wanted money. Those teeth they needed to pull to let the others come in just started coming in Dec ‘25. My insurance co is slow, but not so slow where a procedure done in July is paid the end of November. And go figure, my copay was $400, not the $800 they asked for the day of. ATP, I just need to get his records and bounce. My stupidity for staying this long. ETA- The hygienist are all awesome. Have never had any issue with them. Just admin

Experiencia fantástica: Always pleased with the team at Alexandria Children's Dentistry! They are great with all ages of kids and make the kids feel comfortable. We've been going here since my daughter was three, now she's 14 and has braces. They did a great job explaining how the cleaning would be different.Love how they take the time to explain things to kids appropriate to their age. One thing I wish they would change is to not refer to the adult that's with the child as 'Mom' or 'Dad'. 1) You can never be certain that the person bringing the child is mom or dad. It could be an aunt, uncle, grandparent, close friend. So,2) Use the adult's name and if you don't know the name, ask. Other than that, I would tell everyone to take their child to this practice. I wish they were my dentist!

Experiencia fantástica: My kids absolutely loved their visit to this wonderful dental office! It was my older child’s second visit and my younger one’s very first time seeing a dentist. Both were greeted with big smiles and treated with such friendliness and care. The dentist and staff were incredibly gentle and patient, making my boys feel completely comfortable throughout the visit. The level of care and professionalism was truly top-notch ,you can tell they genuinely care about their young patients. My kids are already asking when we can go back next week! Experiencia negativa: Very friendly staff. Very fast responses on bookings and answering emails. However, sadly, I will not be returning. From My experience, they are not wholistic in their approach. My child has seen another dentist/ airway specialist and been in speech therapy and has been diagnosed with a tongue tie by two separate providers. When I asked the provider about it they did not assess his tongue properly and said “it looks fine”. Additionally, My child had a cavity and needs a crown. The only option they had was metal and because I wanted porcelain I would have to pay for the entire procedure out of pocket (nothing at all would be covered) where with the metal it was covered 80% by my insurance. I am trained in myofunctional approaches and am a lactation consultant and I don’t feel they look at the whole child. When I asked to get my medical records that same day, from just 1 appointment, sent to my original dentist, I was charged $15 and said that it would take up to two weeks .

As a mother that is always looking for the best daycare, schools, activities and pediatrician, I am so happy we found this place. We felt welcomed from the beginning. The front desk was so kind and made the process smooth. My kids were so excited to play on the ipad and the interactive virtual floor game was such a fun surprise!! The kiddos were so excited to be seen! The clinical team did an amazing job, explaining everything to my kids but also keeping us parents informed of things we can improve at home. We have found the dental home for our children and can see the love and care that they have towards kids. My kids have not stopped talking about going back for more goodies and to get their teeth brushed again! Thank you team, this meant so much to us and we look forward to their next visit!

Experiencia negativa: Ok, the dentists have been fine, HOWEVER, pro-tip: this office is not in-network for the same insurance companies that the Del Ray office is in-network for. **And no one there will tell you this** Literally, I thought my husband just had terrible insurance. I got a nearly-$3000 estimate for taking care of cavities for two of my kids. My husband mentioned it to one of his colleagues who said that seemed extremely high since he had the same procedure done for $100. We had to download the insurance plan, make a spreadsheet, call the insurance company asking about coverage for the codes, I brought my spreadsheet to the office to ask what was up and they were all like, huh, I don't know, we don't know why we're listed on your insurance's website we're not in-network, I felt like I was going crazy....Anyway, I don't even know how it dawned on me that if I go to the other office, it would change the calculations. I was able to reschedule part of the dental work for the Del Ray office and my bill came down $1500. I still overpaid by about $500 for the first part of the dental work, but we had time constraints and had to go through with it. Live and learn. Also, the prices are just different. I paid $152 for Nitrous Oxide in this office and $52 in the Del Ray office. Is there a $100 nitrous tax in Fairfax County? Who knows! Anyway, I hope this saves someone some money.

At first, my daughter had some apprehension but once she saw the TV monitor, got to hold her new toothbrush and play a game in the lobby, she was just fine. Experiencia fantástica: My 2 and a half year old son had his first dental appointment this morning at Alexandria Children's Dentistry's Landmark office. His dental hygienist was Alexis. Alexis was so incredibly wonderful! She made him feel so safe, excited about the appointment, explained everything perfectly to him, gave him time to settle in but also knew how to move everything along, and helped him feel really good about his first dentist appointment! He left so excited that his teeth were clean and that the dentist thought he had been doing a good job brushing. I’m also so grateful for all the extra touches you had…toys to play with in the dental chair, a cartoon on a TV, a balloon attached to the toothbrush goodie bag, and a prize when he was done. He loved all of that! I also really really love the congratulation certificate for his first dental appointment, and we are definitely putting that in his baby book! :-) Thank you all so much - and special thanks to Alexis!

Experiencia negativa: Unless you’re ok with being separated from your child during treatment then don’t let them become a patient here. Our first appointment, my son had a cleaning and besides a long wait, the experience was fine. We returned 6 months later because a baby tooth was not falling out, the adult tooth was growing in and I wanted an opinion on how to address this. The dentist instructed us to wiggle it for 3 weeks daily in an attempt to loosen it. If it was not loose after that we were told to return and we would proceed with the extraction and sealants as well as go ahead and do another 6 month cleaning while we were there. We return for the cleaning/extraction/sealants 3 weeks later. We arrive and the assistant is CLUELESS about the plan to extract the tooth/the sealants and thought we were just there for a cleaning. I’m like the extraction and sealants are the whole reason we are here, the cleaning was a secondary reason. So the cleaning is done and we sit in the room for 30 minutes to see if “the dentist can fit the extraction in her schedule.” Then they tell us to go back to the waiting room while they prep the treatment room and to sign consent forms. During this time I am told I won’t be able to go back to the treatment room. I explain I am not comfortable with that and need to be in the room with him. I also politely declined nitrous which seemed to upset them. Guess they don’t like patients who don’t follow their orders. My son is neurodivergent, and while very verbal, he has a hard time expressing past events in great detail. I did not want to be in the dark about what happened in that room if he was mistreated while I was not present. We all know someone with a traumatic childhood dentist story and that was not about to happen on my watch. I will always advocate for him and no DENTIST or staff will ever bully me into consenting to something for him that I am not comfortable with. So after being told 3 times that it is the office policy for parents to wait in the waiting room, I said ok we will just leave. And we did. It has been several weeks and I never even received a call or email from the actual dentist to find out why her patient just left before a procedure. I don’t care what their office policies are, my MOTHER policy is to advocate for my child and that’s just what I did. We found a new dentist in Alexandria who got us in 2 days later. Extracted the tooth and did the sealants! And we didn’t need the nitrous (they didn’t even offer) my son sat perfectly still for all portions of the treatment without it AND I WAS IN THE ROOM THE WHOLE TIME. I also polled hundreds of friends on FB, all said they are present with their children (the ones who are not teenagers yet) at the dentist during all non surgical treatments. Of course I know you can’t be in a room during sedation, but that isn’t what I’m talking about. Many other parents share my same stance that they would not allow their child to be treated without them being present. So clearly my requests are not some extreme or bizarre overreach, this is just a practice who lacks bedside manner with children and prefers the parents not to witness it.

Experiencia fantástica: This office has always been so warm and all the staff has been friendly even during the covid era. The office has lighting which is inviting vs being dark. My kids have been going for 7 years now. I love how the staff laughs, always smiles at the front desk and they know my kids names and faces. The kids have never complaind depsite not being easy about dental work. The games always keeps the office fun and allows the kids not to think about where they are. I would recommend this place 10x over again and again.

Experiencia fantástica: We found this office by accident while searching for places to take my 16yr old. When we walked in, the vibe and set up of the office felt fresh, welcoming and comfortable, from the front desk to the back rooms. My son did express that he might be too old to be there but was immediately put to easy by the receptionist and then the staff! Over all the staff made my son (and myself) feel very welcome. Dr. Melanie did have to do some work on him and so they asked me to wait in the waiting area but they were quick and he said they took great care of him, the staff was funny and he was extremely comfortable alone. So with that, I highly recommend!

Experiencia negativa: We have brought our kids to Alexandria Children's Dentistry's (ACD) Little River Turnpike office for at least a decade. Never had any complaints about service. Our children grew up and we recently decided to move them to another dentistry and that's when things got weird. We asked ACD to please send our kids' X-rays to the new dentist and filled out a form. Their website says X-rays are free and so are the list of clinical services completed. ACD is refusing to release the records unless we make a payment, contrary to what they are advertising on their website. My wife talked to their customer service several times and I talked to their manager on the phone. One rep confirmed X-rays are free (written on their website black on white), then another called to say they are not free. The manager was no help at all and kept repeating the demand for payment on the phone like a parrot. They are withholding the records from the dentistry that we moved our kids to. It's very strange and unprofessional that they won't honor what they advertise. This is deceptive conduct and false advertising. Uncaring and greedy on the management side. It appears they are sticking it to us for moving our kids to another doctor and are playing silly games. I can't remember any other time that dentists refused to share your X-rays with other dentists if you ask them to. This is a first, awful experience. Would not recommend this office to any parents.

Experiencia fantástica: My son is 11 and after countless ENT visits and sleep studies, no one noticed one thing that could remedy all of the things going on due to one small problem. It was only Dr. Austin who caught that my son has a bit of a tongue tie. The practice is highly professional, clean, inviting, and Dr. Austin takes time to educate parents on any special care that may be needed. Excellent job!

My kid is always anxious when she walks in but the staff is amazing with her. We were there earlier today and let me just say Robert took such good care of her. She was extremely nervous but he was such a pro at helping her feel at ease. Would definitely recommend this place.

Experiencia negativa: ⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️ Don’t take your kids to this dense place unless you wanna waist your time or get discriminated. I was waiting since December 2023 to get my kids treated but no one was able to get them in. They told me at the beginning that they will get them after two months but no one called me at the time, I called them 3 times after that and they always said the coordinator will call you which is not happened. Today’s after almost 4 months I stopped by and they provided me with a list of different kids pediatricians to call them. Which means we are not treating you kids in a different way . I don’t recommend this place to anyone

For starters, the lobby is welcoming, inviting, and had my son engaged as soon as he walked in the door. The staff made my son feel very comfortable and I felt that we were in good hands. In particular, Dr. Chelsea was very thorough and answered all my questions! My son had such a great experience and had a huge smile on his face (might have been due to the balloon and goody bag) upon leaving the office. My youngest child was particularly fearful of the procedure and Dr. Chelsea. and Ms. Ambrosia walked him gently and kindly through every step of the way with playful, child-centered language. The facility is also well equipped with children's movies and games, so both my kids were entertained and, on the mend, very quickly! I highly recommend Alexandria Children's Dentistry. We will be returning for a maintenance cleaning soon and am grateful for their personal touch.

Experiencia positiva: My first visit to this organization went well. Front desk greeted us was pleasant energy. Dr.Melanie had loads of energy which I would expect from a pediatric dentist! her assistant Leslie was very pleasant as well! I had no problem voicing my concerns and appreciate her feedback and plan of care. The only thing I did not like was how small the waiting room was and comfortability of seating (hard bench).

Experiencia fantástica: My daughter has been seeing Dr. Angela and her associates since she was about two years old and it has always been an amazing and excellent experience. Even when there were things that had to be done that were not necessarily comfortable or easy to deal with. Now as a teenager, we still see that same level of care and patience, especially after going through the pandemic, where most people have more anxiety than before. I can always count on my daughter being treated with respect and patience, and the entire team always being very clear of next steps prior to making any decisions necessary for continued care. We love both offices; the Little River Turnpike one is closer for us, but the Delray one is pretty cool!

Experiencia fantástica: We had the best experience at our appointment today. The receptionists were so kind and made my almost three year old feel very welcomed. My son was so excited by ball machine in the lobby and couldn’t wait to get his after the visit. Our hygienist was gentle, reassured and praised our son during the visit. He was smiling and laughing the entire visit. Then our dentist came in and she continued to talk to him about dinosaurs, Paw Patrol and other fun topics. They did a great job on the cleaning and answered all of our questions. Thank you!

The office is seriously impressive. To add: all the hygienists are great as is the doctor. My son says he "loves going to the dentist."

Experiencia fantástica: My kids (ages 4 and 2) left saying that they had a great time at their check ups, asked to stay at the dentist because it was “so much fun” and were sad to leave when their appointment was over! BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENTS HERE! We loved our experience! We are new patients at the Little River Tpke location, but this was not our first time seeing a dentist. The staff are very warm and welcoming to children. My kids were comfortable here in engaging with the staff. They were very inviting and friendly, and they celebrate and encourage the children during the visit. This helped the experience to be an easy-going one. If your child has ever shown to be fearful or intimidated by dentists or anything having to do with having their teeth examined, this is the place for you!

Experiencia negativa: I strongly advice people from coming to this dentist office due to lack of organization and blatant disrespect. I came here due to the high ratings here and we were indifferent with the initial visit. The front desk ladies were always kind and the dental assistants were kind, but very pushy with the reviews. My kids needed dental work. We came up with a game plan. We scheduled and were told absolutely nothing about the appointment, like we were told we would. After multiple phone calls and e-mails, they finally got back with me to tell me the kids would have laughing gas, could not eat 2 hours prior, etc. The lady on the phone was very kind and I wrote it off as a miscommunication. Day of, an hour before our appointment, they called to tell us they are going to have to cancel because they double booked. Unfortunately, my husband had taken a day of leave and I took the day off from work so after telling them that, they let us still come. The appointment went fine. My daughter was done but my youngest still had more work that needed to be done. They were in a lot of pain afterwards, but I think they were just sore and tender and that is normal...I think... A month later (today), my son was seen for his last visit. Our appointment was at noon and we were called back at 12:15. I arrived about 10-15 minutes before as well. So, not bad on waiting. I signed the consent forms beforehand. When I arrived, the front desk person said she needed to change something because he needed a crown. I did not recall that being in our treatment plan, but it had been a while. All I knew was that the dentist promised me that everything would match his teeth and they would not give anything silver. Well, I asked about the crown and she said they only do silver. Since my son was in pain, I reluctantly told them to go ahead and do it. Parents can not go back into treatment rooms. They came out with him and told me they did not do the crown OR another filling they were suppose to do. They said he was not in the room until 12:20. Yes, because THEY were late! I could not believe it. Instead of treating the teeth that they knew were hurting him, they treated other smaller ones. I truly believe it was out of spite because I called the dentist out for lying to me about there not being silver. I was refunded (after I asked) for the crown and filling they did not do. In the car ride home, my son told me they were talking in there for a long time. I'm sure they could have done it and I am disgusted that they would let a child go on, IN PAIN, without blinking an eye. I have insurance and still paid a very high amount. I HIGHLY recommend that no one go here. I hope they get it together and never treat a child this way again.

Experiencia fantástica: I've gone here twice with my kids. Even though it's a little farther away from my house, this is definitely the spot to bring the kids. The front lobby area is very welcoming -- they usually have some sort of activity for the kids. The front staff is very nice and cheerful. I haven't really had a wait, which is nice. Once we go into the room, there's usually a movie on, which my kids love. They're able to watch comfortably during the service. The staff seems very patient, as well. Thank you so much!

The dental assistants are always amazing and we always love seeing Dr. Melanie Jones. EVERYONE at the office is so friendly and we are so pleased with this office. The denist is super nice and explain to me what the plan for my daughter was going to be. In general we left happy and I definitely will continue to bring my daughter here!
