Experiencia fantástica: Second time going to serenity. They always do a thorough job and when you have issues they work with you on treatment options so it fits with your budget. I have some recession on my gums and unlike my last dentist, they went over more affordable options then going right to a deep cleaning.

Experiencia negativa: Yesterday was my 2nd and final trip to Serenity Dental Spa. After arriving for my cleaning 15 minutes early, two patients who arrived after me, were taken into exam rooms before me. After starting my appointment 15 minutes late, I was consulted by Dr. Seah who used fear tactics to push every possible treatment that she could. The final straw was when the dental hygienist was jamming the dental floss into my gums causing them to bleed. Dr. Seah came back in and told me that the bleeding was due to deep bacteria. I'm a bit angry at myself for letting her convince me to get an augmentin treatment for $400 that, after my research, found that it's only used for infections that have not been responsive to previous treatment, that are severe, and/or acute. I wouldn't bother coming here, their entire business is based on upselling other services that they provide. I heard two other consultation while I was there where they were trying to upsell Invisalign...their diamond status for top invisalign slanging means a lot to them based on their constant pressure to get every patient a pair. Avoid this place for peace of mind and finance

The people who work here are trained to think about what matters to you to get you to pay for expensive and unnecessary treatment. It is right in your face too. You are being talked at and sitting waiting 2x longer than you receive any care.

Experiencia negativa: Do not recommend. This practice coerces you into unnecessary procedures and treatments. They have an unfriendly staff who are not transparent about billing, insurance coverage, and scheduling. I was having a cleaning when one of the assistants stabbed me and caused pain. — Ok, accidents happen! — However, when I signaled with my hand that I was in pain, they dismissed me and said “just open your mouth.” Ridiculous. Literally go anywhere else. I have never had a bad dental experience in my 25 years before going to this practice. It’s giving money hungry — get out.

Experiencia negativa: This was my second experience with Serenity Spa. I visited once for a check-up and again for a deep cleaning. My first visit was frankly unpleasant. I went in expecting a routine annual cleaning and instead was subjected to repeated upselling of additional services, presented as largely covered by insurance but later turning out not to be. For an inexperienced customer, this felt misleading and uncomfortable. Another tactic I noticed was introducing add-on services mid-procedure, which puts the customer on the spot and makes it difficult to make an informed decision. For my second visit, I was much more cautious. I clearly stated what I wanted and did not want, and I carefully reviewed every document before signing. Despite this, I still ended up paying significantly more than the original estimate because an additional treatment, introduced mid-procedure and not covered by insurance, was presented as necessary. Being forced to decide during treatment, without time to research or consider alternatives, is not something I appreciate. To be clear, the quality of the treatment itself was very good. However, the overall experience, particularly the sales and billing practices, made the visit unpleasant and stressful.

Experiencia negativa: From an administrative perspective, this is the worst dental practice in the city. I was a patient for one year (2022-2023), but switched practices due to the obnoxiously horrible billing system. I would randomly receive texts/letters in the mail months after my appointment with unpaid balances, and after paying those balances, would then receive additional letters/texts relating to the same appointment with more unpaid balances. The office never had a good explanation for the situation or resolution to the issue. The worst example of this (and the reason for writing this review January 2026): I went into their office in April 2023 to confirm that my account was fully paid and let them know that I would no longer be a patient at their practice, but just now receive a text with an outstanding balance of ~$30, which reminded of how horribly aweful it was to be a patient here. The dental professionals were average at best, and messed up the only major dental operation I did while seeing them (they messed up a crown on my molar, and I have not been able to floss between those teeth since). Save yourself the mind boggling confusion and stress of going here.

Experiencia negativa: Appointments went well but the whole office is trying to hustle you for money. They told me 2 of my crowns needed to be replaced, I need invisalign braces, some BS anti-bacteria treatment, and I forget what else. 10's of thousands of $$$$ of work that insurance doesn't cover. Then I recently had an appointment with another doctor with the exact same scanning machine (maybe newer) and they said none of those things were an issue. And on top of this I had Serenity re-attach a permanent retainer for $250 out of pocket and it came undone 3 months later. The dentists are decent enough but the whole office is out to scam you out of money for treatment you don't need. I will not be back.

New patient exam was easy and the assistant was very kind, xrays were quick and easy.I met the dentist Dr Seah, she was very kind and welcoming. She made me feel very comfortable. She explained every detail to me about my teeth and gums with photos and xrays. I was given many options rather then just stuck with 1 decision to figure out what was best for me. I felt comfortable and would recommend her for my own family and friends.

Experiencia negativa: This person should not be a dentist. This dentist wanted me to get a filling done (not even sure if they were honest about that) The job was done improperly. Composite material was put on my nerve. The dentist slightly fractured my tooth. (This was told to me by my next dentist). This led to tooth pain about a year later with a root canal required. 6 years later I needed to get the tooth pulled. I take great care of my teeth it is the only tooth I’ve had problems with. Stay away from this dentist they clearly are under qualified.

Experiencia negativa: I visited this office four weeks ago and requested my dental records, which I was explicitly promised would be sent within 48 hours. Unfortunately, a month has passed, and I have received nothing. I have attempted to resolve this by calling multiple times, only to be met with repeated assurances that the records are being sent, followed by zero action. Most concerning is the lack of phone etiquette; on several occasions, I was told, 'I will put you on hold,' only to be immediately disconnected. I have been patient, but this level of disorganization and lack of professional courtesy makes it impossible for me to recommend this practice. UPDATE I must express my profound disappointment and distress regarding the recent response from Serenity, which I found to be deeply hurtful given my personal circumstances. My original request was made a month ago, and the lack of progress has been incredibly taxing. During the time Serenity reportedly attempted to contact me by phone, I was attending my grandmother's funeral in East Africa—an extremely difficult and emotionally fragile time for me. I had previously and clearly communicated over the phone that due to the significant time difference, which Serenity should have noted from call recordings, I requested not to be contacted by phone. To have this crucial personal boundary disregarded during a period of intense mourning adds unnecessary injury to an already painful situation. It is disheartening that it has taken the public posting of a review to prompt any action. While I have now received some dental records, the effort put forth seems minimal and, frankly, unhelpful. The records provided are confusing and incomplete: 1. The file contains unlabelled photographs of my teeth that provide absolutely no context—there is no indication of which photo corresponds to which specific tooth. Same with the x-rays - no reference which side of the mouth each x-ray refers to. 2. Most importantly, despite the delay and the distress caused, I have still not received a comprehensive treatment plan. This entire situation has demonstrated a clear lack of care and attention. The continuous unresponsiveness to my emails only reinforces the impression that little effort is being made to resolve this matter or provide the necessary information. I am simply seeking clarity, completeness, and a basic level of professionalism that has been consistently absent. If Serenity truly wishes to resolve this frustrating situation, I propose we handle it privately and over email—however, that requires Serenity to actually respond to my outstanding emails.

Experiencia negativa: Pros Did a good teeth cleaning Con Told I have 5 cavities and need fillings. I don’t believe this and am going to get 2nd opinion as I had none in April (7 months ago) and was told my oral health is in great condition. It is possible to re-mineralize your teeth and improve tooth health with sodium fluoride toothpaste, brushing, avoiding sugar, over a few months which NO dentists in general will tell you as it won’t support their business. Try changing habits first before a filling. Read all of the reviews before booking and make your own judgement.

Experiencia negativa: Possible fraud? I have PPO coverage, and my insurance claim was filed by the premier coverage dentist, Dr. Shahabi. I actually saw PPO coverage dentist, Dr. Seah. Insurance was incorrectly charged, seemingly on purpose. This in combination with them constantly trying to upsell and push unnecessary procedures led to a very unfortunate experience. I do not trust this office with my money or my teeth.

Experiencia positiva: The doctor I saw was great but the staff who do the polish and floss really don’t explain what’s happening before hand and that made me feel a bit nervous. I wasn’t talked through the beginning half of the service, but the doctor I saw who did my cleaning made up for that, he was great. Would return (and probably will), I just recommend that other staff are trained in talking through steps and procedures.

Experiencia negativa: TLDR: It's been over a year and I still can chew on my left side without feeling pain. Went in for a cavity filling and left with extremely sensitive teeth (painful to chew), which is pretty normal for the first few weeks or so, however, a month later and the pain was still not going away. Anytime I put pressure on my left side fillings I felt sharp pain. I went in to have them correct this and the dentist shaved down more to correct the bite. This helped a little, but I told the dentist I was still feeling pain when I bit down. He told me this is "normal" and that it "can take a few months to get used to." Flash forward over a year later and I haven't been able to chew on the left side without experiencing pain. I understand that mistakes happen but I'm extremely bummed out, especially at being told that the persistent pain was normal.

Experiencia negativa: Single worst dental experience of my life Went in for a cleaning while I was traveling, and got pressured into getting fillings that I didn’t need. I had no tooth pain prior to visiting - after getting fillings from them, I’ve had tooth pain that has persisted to this day (over a year later). When I came back from traveling, my primary dentist had to go back and re-do the fillings, because they were already falling apart

I had 2 second opinions that confirmed I don't have cavities at all. Personally, I am grateful they helped me when I needed help - but I would avoid going here for general stuff.

I didn’t believe the reviews before and thought they wouldn’t try that with me because I had braces 10 years ago and wear my retainers every night and regularly go to the dentist (missed one 6 month appt because was dealing with some awful family stuff) and this has NEVER been an issue. These people are just trying to make a quick buck. They also told me it would cost ~$200 for a new retainer (mine broke, only reason for the visit) when I first got to the office after SHOWING them the break and then after I declined Invisalign the retainers were now magically ~$1k. Makes sense right. Absolutely absurd will definitely never be going to this place again. People beware I will definitely be getting a 2nd opinion after coming here. Also to be clear (since they keep trying to contact me) my negative feelings have nothing to do with Linda the person I spoke with at the at the front who gave me the incorrect price for the retainers. I can acknowledge a mistake and that is fine, no hard feelings there. My issue with this place is that they seem to want to push unnecessary treatments. They told me I needed at least 4 different treatments that would amount to over $6k. Telling every single person they need Invisalign is insane. And furthermore telling me that basically everyone needs orthodontic work multiple times in their life is crazy when not a single other dentist has ever made a comment to me like that before. My family spent several thousands of dollars to get me braces when I was young. I’m not going to spend another $4.5k on an unnecessary treatment when there are other ways to fix teeth grinding. Anyway, I have my second opinion appointment next week and will update this review with their findings at that point. also no I will not consider removing my review (something they requested I do) because people need to be aware of businesses like this so they don’t get scammed out of thousands of dollars.

Experiencia negativa: Will be filing a complain to DCA against this business. I have been to this clinic 4 times, and have had a bad experience 4 out of 4 times. 1. Charged about $50 PPE fee - when inquired, they said this was for the Covid protection equipment - This is end of 2023, and no Covid PPE was used during my exam. When inquired I was told by the manager they might have 'forgotten' to remove this charge. 2. Was asked to pay for an x-ray that was done during the first appointment, and not covered by insurance as expected - totally fair, and the amount was paid, no questions asked. The office was short staffed, and the dentist attending to me kept going back and forth between different patients, leaving me waiting on the dentist chair for 35 mins with half of my mouth finished. However, after my appointment, Dr. Sheila Shahabi contacted me, very kindly explained the situation and promised me a better service next time. 3. I was told if I should considered getting invisalign. (I have done and already finished my invisalign treatment one year ago, had wired retainers attached to my teeth, and my teeth are in good orientation!) At this point I am not sure if any of the other problems and fixes I have been prescribed from here are genuine. At my third appointment, I was presented a bill, which included the xrays from my first appointment (please note that I already paid for it during my second appt), on my reminder, they could see that I did indeed pay for my xrays, but could not explain where my due amount . After 25 mins of reception staff, juggling various printouts and pondering over numbers, they reached out to the manager for help, who was 'in a meeting'. I was told I will be getting a call back from the office once they figure it out. No call came. I called back the office. The manager was 'still in a meeting', and the reception said, they were still 'working on it'. No follow up call . 4. At my fourth, quick (10 min follow up appt.), I had to wait 25 mins to be seen by a dentist. I inquired if my previous billing issue was resolved. Did not seem to recall any issues (this is a week from my last visit). They presented me the bill and told me the due amount was not from x-rays, but from my previous appointment. At this point I am not sure what I am being told is accurate, and feel the need to look at the numbers closely. The staff is unable to provide my with an itemized bill explaining my balance. The answers were vague, and I was told "if you do the math, you will get this number..". I am an engineer with a masters degree, I can do the math, if only they actually provide a proper record of my bills! On my insistence, reception staff told me that the manager is working on an itemized bill (not sure what needs to be 'worked' on to provide an itemized bill) Again, the manager was 'in a meeting'. I was asked I would be given a call back. No call yet. I believe this office is unethical, does not provide transparency on what is being charged, suggests problems which do not exist in order to charge you for services you don't need. I will be filing a complain to California Dental board, as well as department of Consumer Affairs. ** After telling them I want to close my account, and requesting for them to send me the itemized bill for my dues, the office has failed to provide me anything yet.

I called to ask for rough costs of procedures, understanding that they can’t give me exact amounts before seeing me… as I would be traveling from 5 hours away with a toddler…. And they hung up on me telling me that “it sounds like a lot of work for them” to try to give me rough price costs to see if their services would even be in my budget. They didn’t even want to give the cost of an exam, saying that they would tell me the costs AFTER the procedures are done. What a scam.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been going to this dentist a little over a year and having a great experience. Everyone is super attentive and thorough, and I’m really happy with the results. When I first started going here, it was my first time at a dentist in years, and the team was very understanding and non-judgemental, which was exactly the attitude I needed to turn things around. I’m so glad I’ve been coming here, and my teeth have never been healthier.

Experiencia negativa: Avoid this place at all cost. You can't trust this place. They overwhelm you wil a lot of bills and procedure that at the end are not needed. Plus, then they don't want to give you your money back. I went for my first visit and they pressured me so much to pay for a deep cleaning. I left, with tentative bills that added more than $9,000 and when I went to other dentists, I didn't need half of what they were telling my I had to do. I finished what I paid for, and it took me 6 months to get back the money my dental insurance was covering, because of course they made me pay everything at once. To get my money back was a nightmare. They were giving me excuses all the time and after several calls they even wanted me to go pick up the check even I told them I was recovering from a hip replacement surgery.

Experiencia negativa: I made the mistake of booking an emergency appointment here because a part of my tooth broke off. There are a few things that made my experience here uncomfortable: 1. I came in for an emergency appointment, but spent 2+ hours without any sort of temporary relief. They did many x-rays, photos, Invisalign scans and simulation (I did not ask for this), cleaning, coating, etc., which took so long. I only talked to the doctor for around 15 minutes, and she quoted me for a crown, but did not provide any temporary covering, or even any instruction on how to take care of my tooth in the meantime. 2. Every single person I talked to at the office, from the nurse, doctor, staff, to the hygienist, albeit being nice, tried to upsell me on Invisalign. I have never had any dentist tell me I have bite/contact/grinding issues nor have I experienced any symptoms, but they kept insisting that orthodontics will help with my bite and reduce potential cavities, which sounds questionable. 3. When asked about the material of the crown, they said they only use the best (the most expensive) with no alternative options, which is a red flag. I was given a huge quote on the crown, along with an even bigger, completely out of pocket quote on Invisalign when I HAVE NOT ASKED FOR THAT. 4. Apart from Invisalign, they try to upsell everywhere possible - prescription toothpaste, fluoride coating, gum antibiotics, all out of pocket. I know my dental health is not the best, but I felt like they took advantage of my “emergency” and vulnerability. I feel so stupid that I was pressured to pay so much ($600+ just today) and receive nothing I wanted. The more I think about it the stupider I feel. Please check reviews and avoid this place if possible, especially if this is your first dentist visit in a while.
