Experiencia negativa: I am expressing my dissatisfaction regarding my recent visit to your clinic. After speaking with my insurance provider, I was informed that the procedure performed required pre-authorization in order to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket charges. Unfortunately, this step was not completed by the office. While I understand that patients are ultimately responsible for their insurance coverage, I also believe that a professional dental clinic has a duty to properly inform patients when a procedure may not be covered without prior authorization. At no point was I advised that this service could be denied or that pre-authorization was recommended or necessary. Because of this lack of communication, I am now facing a charge that could likely have been avoided. I relied on your office to guide me appropriately, especially as a first-time patient. This experience has been very disappointing for both myself and my daughter, as we had hoped to establish a long-term relationship with a trusted dental provider.

Experiencia fantástica: This place is awesome! I left work in tremendous pain due to a major toothache. Walked in with extreme anxiety and told the staff I need help. The entire staff were extremely polite and listened to my concerns. Assured me that they could assist with my dental needs all while being aware of my nerves and anxiety. They squeezed me in for a THOROUGH exam. Got me a prescription and a plan to do the root canal. I called a day later requesting to be seen sooner for the surgery. They made room for me and understood the amount of pain and discomfort I was in. The procedure went GREAT! I was informed of every step and they made sure I was comfortable the entire time! This was my first time seeing a dentist since the military and this place was awesome!

A friend highly recommended Dr. McElvain a few years ago, but I was too anxious to make the call—so I sent my 20-year-old son first, and he really liked the office. When a tooth finally broke, I couldn’t put it off any longer. Dr. McElvain did an excellent job repairing it and immediately put me at ease. Since then, I’ve continued addressing all my dental needs after years of avoiding the dentist. Dr. McElvain is skilled, gentle, and genuinely cares about his patients’ comfort. The front office staff are kind and knowledgeable, and the hygienists provide thorough, professional care. The entire office has a warm, family-like atmosphere. I highly recommend Dr. McElvain and his team.

Experiencia negativa: I'm writing my review over five appointments over the past month. The office staff was accommodating and able to help me schedule convenient appointments. General cleaning appointments went well and the Dr seemed knowledgeable . The issue came up when I noticed that Dr. McElvain was short and had little patience during a filling appointment. He stayed in the room for less than four minutes and said "he can't do this today." We "wasted an hour of his time today" after he declared that we needed to get a referral. I've never been treated so unprofessionally by a dentist ever in my life. On top of everything, I had to pay a $50 cancellation fee. We showed up for the appointment and wanted to continue the procedure - we just needed an ounce of patience. If you want a dentist with patience, I would stay away from this practice.

He explains everything in great detail. All the staff are wonderful. I finished my procedure for the first time without needing Nitrous Oxide and my blood pressure remained stable. Experiencia fantástica: I have been going to Lone Star Family Dental for a couple of years now and a patient of Dr. Justin McElvain's. But early on in this relationship, Justin proved that he is much more than a highly competent dentist. He is a trusted and valued friend. I don't often write reviews on anything or anybody but I think this story deserves to be told. Before we knew each other very well, I had an appointment with Dr, McElvain one afternoon. I was close to being late for the appointment because when I was leaving my previous appointment at the McKinney Salvation Army headquarters, I saw that my car had a flat tire. I was now in panic mode and did not have time to change the tire so I asked a friend if he would take me to Lone Star Family Dental which he did, just in time for the appointment. As Justin was preparing for the dental work, I was talking about my car problem and that I did not have a way home to pick up an air compressor which I thought would enable me to air up the tire and allow me to get to Discount Tire to get it repaired. Justin immediately said that he would take me home to get the compressor at Heritage Ranch and then drive me back over to the Salvation Army where my car was. As a reminder, I had not been a patient of Dr. McElvain's very long and he certainly had no need or responsibility to offer to help me at the end of his long day and I certainly was not asking him to do so. However, at the end of my appointment, off we go to my home at Heritage Ranch to get my air compressor which, by the way, is not small and requires two men to pick it up and load it into an SUV. When we get back to my car in McKinney, Justin again helps me off-load the compressor, watches me air up the tire and finally, helps me load the compressor into my SUV. This entire ordeal took about at least an hour, as I recall. This story is NOT about a dentist. It IS about a good man, taking the time and making a considerable effort to help someone else in need. As I have continued to get to know Justin even more, I continue to admire him even more as a young man building a career and a business and as a father and husband of a beautiful young family all of whom I have seen at his practice. OH, BY THE WAY, Dr. Justin McElvain is also a first class, full service dentist using the latest in dental technology and practices along with an excellent and caring office staff. Even my retired dentist friends at Heritage Ranch use him. AND, I have even managed to overlook the fact that he is an Aggie. Pat Friend Heritage Ranch, Fairview

Experiencia fantástica: Lone Star dentist is amazing!! I needed a dentist desperately and I came across Dr McElvain and made the appointment. I got in 1st available within a week. From the warm welcome of the staff to the chair, the staff was professional and friendly. If you get nervous about going to the dentist Dr McElvain and his staff make the process calming. I had a major thing of a loose tooth to a few starting to be, so a bridge was needed. Victor the technician was kind and efficient in his job taking pictures and X-rays. Then I met Dr McElvain who is a Rock Star! He accessed and explained what needed to be done in detail and options. From the 1st visit to my 3rd visit Tiffany in the front office walked me through the insurance and out of pocket. She is knowledgeable and sweet with answering all the questions to appt’s, insurance and aftercare in case you forget. There are many others on staff that were just as professional and friendly, but these 3 are my personal encounters and left a lasting impression of going to see Dr McElvain. I can highly recommend him and his staff for your dentistry needs. Lone Star performs a wide range of procedures from cleaning to implants. I have a new bright smile! Thank you! Next visit is a full cleaning, can’t wait.

For years, I appreciated that their hygienist conveniently scheduled my next cleaning after each visit, ensuring I maximize my insurance coverage of two cleanings per year. Unfortunately, during a previous appointment, the hygienist scheduled my next cleaning for a date that fell just short of my insurance coverage period. This resulted in an unexpected bill for the service. When I contacted their office to explain the situation, I was informed that it was my responsibility to track my insurance coverage dates and they are unable to waive the fee. I believe that a more patient-centric approach would be for Lone Star Family Dentist to proactively coordinate appointments with patients' insurance plans. This would prevent billing surprises and ensure that patients receive the full benefits of their insurance coverage.

After searching online, I became convinced that my teeth were in worse shape than they actually were. Maddie was incredibly kind while taking my x-rays and helped me feel at ease until it was time for my cleaning. Cara, my dental hygienist, had such a positive attitude that I felt even more comfortable. She was so patient with me, and I left the office feeling really great. I had Courtney as my hygienist today for more work and she was amazing as well. Colleen and Tiffany at the front desk were also warm and welcoming. All in all, everyone has been wonderful and I would highly recommend Lone Star Family Dental. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually excited to go back and see my progress.

He has performed several difficult procedures on me with amazing results. He fixed one of my front teeth that looked like one of bugs bunny's teeth that my old dentist messed up. It was painless and looks perfect now. He spends as much time as needed with his patients and is not in a hurry to get to the next one. His staff is equally as amazing. They have assembled a great team there. I highly recommend this dentist and his staff.

I started my journey with them in mid-2023 after years of putting everything dental related on the back burner. My former dentist had retired and I was truly just terrified to start with someone/somewhere new. That said, I am SO, SO thankful I made that initial appointment with Dr. McElvain. We are still working through my treatment plan, as it was a LOT, but I am just so greatful to have found this crew. Front staff is phenomenal, dental hygenist Jessica is just an absolute Angel-Rockstar keeping me comfortable through that first (dreaded) deep cleaning and 3 month maintenance visits... Experiencia negativa: I had a negative experience with the office manager, who was curt, unprofessional, and interrupted me while I was speaking multiple times. It's a shame, b/c everyone besides Colleen was pleasant. Though we live across the street from this office, we've decided to drive farther and change dentists just to avoid interacting with Colleen. So, thank you Colleen. This wonderful office has lost 3 patients b/c of you and your unprofessionalism.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a terrible experience at the DDS office I had been going to for the past 4 yrs. Contacted a friend who suggested I see Dr. McElvain and his team. They were nothing but kind, compassionate and professional. Dr. McElvain didn't rush in and leave as the other DDS did, instead he really took time to review my history, examine my mouth and then give me his opinion. This is the best first visit I've ever had and I'd give him and the staff 10 stars if possible.

Colleen always makes us feel like we are family when we walk in and is always willing to help with whatever I need. And the only person my kids actually listen to when it comes to dental hygiene is Cara! Why can I tell them something and she says the same thing and they do it, I don’t know! ‍♀️ She is great at explaining to teens and so helpful to me as a mom! Glad we found such a great dentist!

Experiencia fantástica: Needed a dentist fast due to a broken molar in December of 2020. I looked through the preferred providers within in my dental plan and started looking up the Google reviews for each one. When I saw the reviews for Dr. McElvain, I was extremely wary; they sounded too good to be true. However, since the office was close to my home, I decided to take a chance and made the appointment. Hands down, the BEST dentist I have been to -- EVER. (and I am not a youngster). The pricing for what I needed to have done was thoroughly explained and extremely reasonable. I was not pressured to do anything I wasn't ready to do. Dr. McElvain explained everything he saw on the x-rays and was extremely precise with the work he did to fix my tooth and made sure it was done 100% right. Today (first time in a very long time), I followed through and did my regular checkup and cleaning. Thanks to Dr. McElvain and his awesome staff, I no longer have a reason to neglect dental care. So grateful.

Experiencia fantástica: Both my husband & I have experienced the need for emergency treatment this year. After living in Fairview for seven years, we had never changed our dentist. We had decided to change to a local dentist earlier this year. My husband required urgent treatment before his first appointment and he was seen immediately. I called recently and when I explained the pain I was having, I was seen immediately. I think Dr. McElvain worked through his lunch to make sure my pain was alleviated until he had the time necessary to solve the problem.
