Fantastic experience: Harborside Dental in Punta Gorda, Florida is an exceptional place for your dental needs. Everything from simple cavities and teeth whitening to More advanced procedures like crowns, root, canals and bridgework. The staff is highly competent and have worked together for years so they are a seamless well-oiled machine. From simple to complex they have you covered. I recently needed their services for a cracked tooth and the whole ordeal was made perfect by these guys and on top of that they are reasonably priced. They made me feel like family and I don't know what else to say.
Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough great things about Harborside! The entire team is incredible! Leann and Carly at the front are amazing and always on top of making check-in and checkout a complete breeze. I usually have Pam as a hygienist and she is not only excellent & gentle but always has the best conversations! I did see a different hygienist at my last visit (I wish I could remember her name) she was also gentle, sweet & full of knowledge! Dr. Dan Moenning was recommended to me by one of my oral surgeon’s I work for, and I couldn’t be happier with taking that recommendation. He is an expert in dentistry and just an all around great guy! Thank you, Harborside team, for always providing the BEST CARE!!

Negative experience: Received our regular cleaning in March. Usually get reimbursed from my insurance in a month. Called our insurance and was told that charges should be submitted through our medical. Called Harborside in May and was told it was done. Still no reimbursement. Called Harborside again in June and was told our claim was submitted. Still nothing when I called our insurance company. Went into the office and made sure they had our medical cards. Was told that our claim was submitted on June 15. Checked our insurance and still no claim from Harborside. Called Harborside again in July and asked why they have not submitted our claim to our medical to process to our dental insurance under the same company. Harborside is checking again. After not being reimbursed over $600 in 5 months we are seriously thinking of going to a dentist that knows how to process our insurance claims.

Fantastic experience: My dental hygienist is Amy. Not only is she good at what she does, she has a heart of gold and is probably the most caring person I know. I look forward to seeing her at each visit. I've met both with Dr.s Dan and Michele and they are both friendly and knowledgeable. I never have had to wait more than a few minutes for my appointments. No one enjoys going to the dentist but the people at Harborside Dental makes the experience the best it can be.
Fantastic experience: Katrina is such a kind and professional hygienist! She always takes her time and numbs my gums as my mouth is so sensitive. As much as I hate getting my teeth cleaned or anything involving the dentist, I always walk away with a smile and she always makes me laugh somehow.

Fantastic experience: My son re-broke his front tooth. Harborside got him in same day that I called and took excellent care of him, just 4 days before his High School Graduation. Negative experience: Was charged $227 during my first visit and was told they don’t clean teeth during the first visit. I was not informed that cleaning teeth was not going to be done. That’s the main reason I go to the dentist. If you want to be ripped off, this is the place to go.

First to clarify, I assume the “ripoff” comment was not regarding the $227 fee that you paid, but rather in your frustration concerning our office policy and protocol. The fee collected was indeed for services that were rendered upon receiving your consent. We are sorry to have disappointed you as our protocol, which is based on the highest standard of care, did not meet your expectations. As you may or may not know, the type of cleaning prescribed is based on the specific needs of each patient. Some individuals are prescribed a routine cleaning which requires much less time than a person who may be impacted by periodontal disease. Our hygienists may spend anywhere from 40 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the patient’s needs. This is why our initial appointment is dedicated to collecting the information from health history, a full set of X-rays, a periodontal exam, and a thorough dental exam. It is only after we have gathered all of the pertinent information that a treatment plan and the appropriate type of dental cleaning can be determined. The business assistant who scheduled your initial visit has been in Dentistry and in our office for over 20 years. She has consistently explained our office policy and procedures to each and every new patient. We are sorry for the misunderstanding and can empathize with your frustration since you were expecting to have your teeth cleaned at your very first visit to our office. Please let us know how we can assist you as we hope you find a dental practice that is a better fit for you.

Negative experience: I have gone to this office off and on since 2012. I initially went here because a former hygienist is a friend of mine and knew she would do a great job with the cleanings. Since then she has moved to another location; unhappy with the state of how the office is run. Her new office isn’t accepting new patients so I have remained a patient here when I’ve needed to be seen. I had tooth pain, and a cracked tooth in 2023 and they got me in quickly, and did take care of it right away. The part that didn’t sit well was Dan gaslighting me to make me feel like my tooth pain was normal and after telling him I have trigeminal neuralgia and that the tooth pain is also probably exacerbated by that, he told me he ‘always has tooth pain too’. That’s a weird thing to tell a patient considering tooth pain isn’t normal and you’re a dentist, as is your wife, so you should probably get that checked out. I shrugged it off because not everyone has great bedside manner. A few months go by and I get a call from the office about a balance of $40. I’m quite literally on the toilet so I say I’ll call back and pay it. I forget. That’s on me. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, where I again have tooth pain so I call to see if I can get in. The office lady rudely told me they couldn’t see me that day…followed by silence. I said ‘ok so can you get me in next week?’ and she said she wouldn’t be able to because they sent my account to collections. you sent a patient who’s been there for over a decade to collections for $40?! Between the bedside manner and rude front office staff, I’ll take myself elsewhere like your hygienists. Complete Dental Care in port Charlotte was PHENOMENAL if you’re here looking for someone in the area who is thorough and empathetic.

I hope it is safe to assume from what you have written that you were pleased with the result of your treatment and that your situation was handled quickly. We apologize that you had a negative experience and did not appreciate Dr. Dan’s bedside manner. We do know that he often connects with his patients through his own dental experiences and analogies, but will encourage him to be more sensitive to those who may perceive that as gaslighting. As for any issues with billing, the office follows a standard protocol for all patient accounts. Our billing coordinator attempts multiple times to contact patients in order to resolve any and all unpaid balances. Unfortunately after 120 days, the system will send the account to collections. We are very gracious and forgiving as we know there are circumstances that are often out of a person’s ability to control (for example, hurricanes) and so it is always our recommendation to reach out to speak with the billing coordinator to make arrangements as needed. Again, we apologize for any miscommunication or misunderstanding on our part and will strive to do better in those areas. We are happy that you have found a dental home as our community is blessed with amazing dental professionals.

Negative experience: GIANT RIPOFFS - STAY AWAY-FIND ANOTHER HONEST DENTIST My husband went to this dental office in January for dental work, we have Delta Dental insurance, without knowledge that this dentist is a premier dentist had my husband sign an agreement for treatment and never informed him that they will charge fees above what delta would pay them. Shortly after treatment sent us a bill for 40.00 ... Again they never told him they are a premier provider, and if they did tell him they were a premier provider they didn't explain exactly what that meant. My husband told them he didn't want any ex-rays, he wanted to find out if the tooth was broken, visibly damaged, they took exrays did no dental work and charged for the exrays. They refuse to remove the extra charges..... Poor customer service... Stay away from them. Their response is unacceptable, it's their responsibility to check and see what my insurance will pay for, that's what the dentist all do in Michigan, maybe in Michigan the dentists have more integrity and don't need to lie cheat and steal from their customers. Then blame the customers for their lack of follow through.

After speaking with our billing manager and hearing how upset you were with her on the phone, please know that the owner did return your call, but was unable to reach you. I would like to address your concerns so that not only you, but also others will have a clear explanation and better understanding of our office protocols.
You mentioned the issue with the insurance plan that you selected not covering the entire fee for that visit. I understand your frustration as I am exceedingly annoyed with insurance today as well. There are layers upon layers and tiers of dental plans within a single insurance carrier. Some of the plans are even underwritten by other dental insurance companies and there is no way that we can be familiar with the benefits and networks of every single plan offered. We are a dental office and although we are happy to assist and file your insurance claim for you, we always encourage our patients to be knowledgeable and familiar with the plan that they have selected. We are always willing to help a patient with their plan, however, being a middle man between the insurance company and the patient is not always the most ideal. It is much more beneficial for the patient to speak directly with their insurance company when it comes to benefits, exclusions, and in and out of network providers. This is why when a patient calls, we encourage the patient to contact their insurance company if coverage is a concern, and we graciously offer our tax ID number so that the insurance agent can assist you.
As you stated, we do participate in the Delta Dental Premier network. This means that we do accept their fees for the patients who have chosen that particular plan. For the other Delta Dental plans...and there are a lot of them, we are not contracted to accept their fees. We will, however, continue to file your claim on your behalf as a courtesy to you. If the plan you selected does not choose to honor our fees, the remaining balance ($40.00 that you mentioned) is the patient's responsibility.
You mentioned that your husband signed an agreement. That is correct. We have our patients sign a form which gives consent for treatment and also to file insurance on their behalf. It also states that the patient accepts all financial responsibility. I am quite certain that agreement can be found in most, if not all, medical and dental offices.
The last concern was that a dental x-ray was taken. I understand that he wanted to see if the tooth was visibly broken. Dentists are held to a certain standard of care and taking an x-ray image of a broken tooth is a necessary diagnostic tool to complete the limited, problem- focused examination. That information is used to determine the health and prognosis of the tooth, root, and bone. We check for infection, periodontal involvement and can detect bone pathology if present. These issues unfortunately, cannot always be seen on a limited visual exam. We want to know that the tooth will have a good prognosis with treatment. Can you imagine how upset someone would be if we restored a broken tooth with a filling or crown only to have them lose it to periodontal disease because we did not take a film to evaluate it? While I will apologize for our part in the inability to fully explain the insurance coverage you selected, I cannot apologize for the standard of care that we will always offer to any of our patients, whether they are covered by insurance or not. We have not been and will not ever be dictated to by insurance on how to best take care of our patients. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding and we wish you the best.

Positive experience: My tech Pam, was brand new to the office. She was terrific, although I prefer the water pressure treatment for cleaning vs the scraping technique. I am also a bit frustrated at the turnover of techs. Pam is my third tech in just a few years.

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We appreciate it! We just wanted to clarify our scheduling system and the reasoning behind it. In the past, when people scheduled 6 months in advance, we unfortunately had many missed appointments. Patients would forget, or be out of town, or not show up because of illness. Occasionally, even we had to cancel patients if the hygienist was ill and we were unable to find a replacement. To reschedule these patients, it would sometimes take 6 months or longer to get them back in due to our schedule being completely full 6 months out. By sending out reminders in the form of a phone call, text message, or email 6 weeks in advance, our patients are able to call in and schedule their appointment at their convenience. We have also found this to be a benefit for our patients who may need to cancel on short notice due to emergencies or illness because now we have the flexibility to reschedule them much more efficiently and quickly with this system. We hope this clears up any misunderstanding. We use this recall system not to make your life more difficult, but because we value your time and your dental health!
