Positive experience: When I have had A need for a quick appt with Dr Oakes, I can get an appt with in 24 hrs. The staff is so kind and offers you comfort while you are being a patient in their office. Dr Oakes is a specialized dentist, but he takes time to get to know his patients. It is soothing atmosphere

Fantastic experience: I started the appointment sobbing from fear but afterwards I couldn't stop smiling! I wasn't taken to the dentist as a kid and as an adult I haven't been able to get through an entire cleaning. I was so terrified of going to the dentist, because of the pain and disregard I'd experienced at other clinics, that I hadn't had a cleaning in years. I had ugly staining on my front teeth too. One visit with the amazing dental hygienist, Krista, and I'm not afraid anymore! She is the best. She has experience with neurodivergent children and it shows in her work! My teeth are so clean, the staining is gone, and it didn't even hurt!!

Negative experience: The hygienist was wonderful, but the dentist aggressively pressured me to get a $23k cosmetic procedure, offered no alternatives, and shamed me for saying it was out of my price range. Will not be returning.

During my initial consult, he and his staff spent more than an hour attending to me and listening to my concerns about my smile. I couldn’t ask for more from a doctor!

Negative experience: Terrible customer service. If I could give zero stars, I would. I have been a customer of theirs since I was in middle school and mostly have had no issues. Occasional billing mistake or incorrect insurance application, but nothing that made me want to leave until now. I had an appointment for a routine cleaning in February. After waiting 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I was brought to the front desk to review the charges. I was told that I would pay up front and insurance would reimburse me later. I was also told at this time that the Dr. I see was not there. I expressed my hesitancy to pay the charges and frustration of not being told prior that my Dr was not there, and wanted to call my mom to verify that this was correct, but felt pressured into paying anyways. After paying, I sat back down for another 30 minutes and called my mom, who told me that was not how our insurance worked and that it must have been a mistake. I walked back to the desk, now having waited an hour after my appointment time, and asked if there was any way I could get a refund as I would not like to proceed with service at that time. I was told by the front desk staff that I needed to speak to the office manager so I waited for another 20 minutes. Once the office manager was available, she told me they were ready to take me back (so the communication that I wanted to leave was never done), I expressed the same concern to her and asked if I could get a refund and leave. She told me that would not be a problem and that I would be getting a refund check in the mail. 2 weeks after that appointment I called in to ask about the refund check, as I had not gotten it yet. I was told that I needed to speak to the billing department. I called several times throughout the week and was told I would be getting a call, until one day I was told that they were out and I wouldn't be hearing from her until the week after. Now waiting 3 weeks, I finally received a call from the billing department who told me that the amount I paid at my visit was put towards an open balance (of several hundred dollars) from back in 2022. I was never told about this open balance, never received a bill, and was never made aware it even existed even through all of the appointments from 2022 leading up to February of 2025. I told her that was not correct and that I would like my refund check sent. She told me she needed to look into it and after another day of waiting, came to the conclusion that the check would be sent. Now, 6 months later, I reach back out as I STILL have not received my check. I called on Wednesday and the front office told me that billing would call me Thursday. I called midday Thursday to remind them that I was awaiting a call, and was told by the office manager that I would be getting it by end of day. I did not receive a call. I called Friday to let them know I did not receive my call, and was assured that I would be hearing from them that day and that the office manager herself would call me midday Friday to check in with me to see if I heard from their billing department. I did not get a call from the manager, nor did I get a call from billing. I still have not received my refund for services that I didn't even get, and am frustrated that my money was put towards a bill from 3 years ago that I was never told existed until now. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR SERVICE! They will scam you and take your money.

Negative experience: The dental hygienist was amazing! The only reason I am not doing 1 star. There billing practices are terrible. I was told before I set up my appointment that they accepted my insurance and once I was there they told me that they actually only party accepted it. The price for going change both times from what I was told and what they actually charged me.

Negative experience: This was truly one of the most unpleasant dental visits I’ve ever experienced. I only visited because I wasn’t able to make the appointment at my regular office, which is a fantastic dental spa with distinguished presence in Bethesda. I, however, just decided to have an open mind and try an office in the Frederick area, which I wholeheartedly regret. Firstly, the office is super compact and aesthetically outdated, so from the onset, I was already unpleased. The overall environment and aura isn't welcoming. The office could also use some cleaning, as equipment and furniture are old. Upon arriving, I had to fill out a ton of new patient paperwork, which I would’ve rather done online. They also never confirmed, prior to my visit, if they accepted my insurance, which concerns me after seeing the feedback from other reviewers, who have complained about the office rejecting their insurance months later. After my paperwork was completed, I was shown the breakdown of services, which seemed outrageous for a simple cleaning. They also decided to insert the fluoride treatment without my consent, which isn’t covered under my insurance. Typically, my regular dentist asks if it something I want, so I was disappointed that they openly decided to add it without my input. Finally, when it was time for my cleaning, an old lady walked in without any proper greeting, so I was immediately confused. She then informed that she would be the individual “treating me.” I had to request her name after which I discovered it was Cathy. She jumped directly into doing my x-rays and informed that they would need to get a full mouth examination, which I wasn’t prepared for since I typically just get the bite wings. I was only in for a cleaning and wasn’t going to commit to this dentist, so the full mouth x-rays were a surprise. As Cathy started taking my x-rays, she was extremely rough and inpatient. She didn’t appear to know what she was doing, which caused me a lot of pain. I understand this procedure is uncomfortable, but Cathy unapologetically executed it with excessive force. At one point, my eyes teared up from the extensive pressure. When I jumped for pain, Cathy became upset and didn't help alleviate or diffuse the matter. My entire mouth was immensely sore, and I felt awful. The entire cleaning experience was horrific. I was also forced to wear a pair of dirty glasses, which kept sliding off of my face and added to my discomfort. Cathy then proceeded to check my gums by aggressively poking them and started ranting about the "inflammation” she witnessed. She even proceeded to give me a diagnosis, which was outright inappropriate, as she isn’t a doctor and doesn’t have the knowledge or authority to administer care in that manner. I informed a friend of mine, who is a dentist, of Cathy’s actions, and he reported that under no circumstances should a general assistant or hygienist attempt to diagnose or discuss medical conditions. For context, my teeth are naturally straight and white. I’m often mistaken for someone who has had braces due to the uniform construct of my teeth, so I just couldn’t comprehend Cathy’s baseless insights that she wasn’t academically equipped to discuss in the first place. I was also pressured into the fluoride treatment, and when I inquired about the difference between my daily fluoride usage and the one they’d administer, Cathy abhorrently replied that the in-house treatment was of prescription strength. She answered in a rude, unprofessional, tone. She also had an aggressive demeanor and displayed annoyance. Finally, after an hour with Cathy’s overbearing presence, the doctor entered and conducted a brief examination. I was completely drained and exhausted at this point and couldn’t wait to hurry and exit. They even attempted to have me schedule a “3-month cleaning follow-up,” which I obviously rejected. I am still taken aback and immensely disappointed by the treatment and service received at this establishment. The entire visit was dreadfully horrendous.

Fantastic experience: This was my 1st experience as a patient with Dental Arts of Frederick. The ladies in the reception area were prompt to check me in, everly so polite, attentive, and profession. Dr. Oakes and his assistant Bree were excellent. They were thorough, informative, and engaged with me as a patient ensuring I was comfortable and pleased with the end result. The quality of care and excellence surpassed my expectations. Thank you Dr. Oakes for maintaining an efficient office and for providing truly top quality dental care.

No one I know likes getting an expensive treatment plan laid out. All that aside, if you’re going to get that kind of news, or expected it to an extent going in in, you couldn’t ask for a better team to deliver it. Everyone in that office was lovely. You are offered a beverage. They have massage chairs and neck rests. Dr. Oakes is so kind and knowledgeable. I am very glad I found this practice.

The caps he has made/replaced fit better and are much nicer looking than previous work; they also allow my gums to remain healthy, unlike some of the older, larger caps I had done with previous dentists. I am grateful I have access to good dental care in Frederick, MD. ...Dr Oaks is a very competent and honest dentist/prosthodontist, - good at putting one at ease as well. His impressive vast experience allows him to answer questions that make it understandable to the average person, as well as offering viable options that might be available. Dental work is always completed in a gentle and professional manner. The dental hygienists and office staff are also very friendly and knowledgeable. And I should mention the “spa experience” that comes along with a visit, as the staff is very concerned for your comfort. Furthermore, the practice goes the extra mile to ensure everyone’s safety during this pandemic. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I drove from Atlanta to meet with Dr. Kevin after I'd forgotten my work out gloves one afternoon at the gym and dropped a 20 lb. dumbbell on my mouth working triceps. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. I wasn't confident in the advice I was getting locally so drove up north to Dental Arts of Frederick. Three separate trips and 4 new front teeth later, it looks a thousand times better than before. Dr. Kevin and his staff are kind and courteous and fun. And I think Dr. Kevin's photo is in Webster's dictionary under "perfectionist".

Negative experience: Dr Oakes has made over $50K from me since 2016. By accident I found out through my insurance company that Dr Oakes had been billing them on EACH visit for upper and lower cleanings. However, he has been only doing one implant cleaning but charging me for both. My ins. co. does not pay for cleaning implants but his manager accidently sent the line item for each upper and lower including the charge for each ie. $200 upper and $200 lower. He charged me $400 for both while only doing one. Also, my ins. paid for oral exam which he did not reimburse. Look at his revues on ex employees. that should say it all.

Fantastic experience: It had been longer than it should have been since I visited a dentist and I saw a review of Dental Arts from a good friend. I made an appointment and it was the best thing I've done in a while. My teeth are in the best shape they've been in for years. The dentist, Dr Lee, is top notch, the Dental Assistants are wonderful and I couldn't recommend this practice more. Five stars only because six is not an option.

Fantastic experience: From the moment you walk in, the staff is so incredibly nice and just so quick to offer a cold bottle of water or a pillow for comfort. They go out of their way to ensure your visit is I a pleasant experience, and it truly is. And I can't say enough good things about Dr. Oakes. He puts you are ease from the first moment of meeting, so any feelings of nervousness disappear. He's thorough and so informative -covering all the bases so you know exactly what is happening. He's an artist, there is no other word for it.

Fantastic experience: Always a great time! They make going to the dentist very comfortable. Also, dr. Oaks has got to be one of the nicest men ever. He shows your everything that is going on, and explains all of his moves before he does anything. The entire staff is as nice as can be! I actually enjoy going to the dentist!
