Positive experience: They got me right in to check out my cracked tooth, then was able to fix it painlessly right then & there with the Solea Laser, because I am sensitive to most anesthetics. Could use considerable improvement on scheduling, they lost 2 of my appointments, I waited months for an appointment they didn’t even have on the books, even though they confirmed days before.

Negative experience: I was referred to Central Oregon Dental Esthetics through VA Community Care and gave this office two chances. Both visits exposed the same issue: poor organization and lack of accountability. The first appointment was rescheduled last minute, which I accommodated. I still arrived early, yet was seen late. That alone isn’t a dealbreaker, but it set the tone. On the second visit, I again arrived early and was still seen late. During a cleaning, about three quarters of the way through the procedure, the hygienist was pulled away for an “urgent call.” I was left alone in the dental chair for approximately 10 minutes with no communication, no coverage, and no provider present. Let that sink in: mid-procedure, unattended. After already being delayed and then left waiting in the chair, I had other scheduled commitments and ultimately had to leave. My dental cleaning was not even completed. I left mid-procedure because the situation was taking too long with no clear direction or support. I understand emergencies happen. That’s not the issue. The issue is that there was no system in place to ensure patient safety or continuity of care when it did. No backup, no doctor stepping in, no communication in the moment. As a new patient, I was also not given the opportunity to speak with the dentist about my condition or next steps. Staff, including Dr Hicks, had already left for the day prior to any follow-up or discussion. This wasn’t just inconvenient. It was unprofessional and, more importantly, a failure in basic patient care standards. If you are considering this office, understand that when things go off-script, there does not appear to be a reliable system to protect the patient or maintain continuity of care. That’s a risk I’m not willing to take again.

Positive experience: *update - After posting my review, Dr. Hicks reached out, apologized for the miscommunication, and issued me a full refund, which I truly appreciate. She mentioned they are implementing a new system to help prevent these types of misunderstandings moving forward. I'm sad to have to write this review because I do like the staff and the dental care but after this happening to me twice, I have been left extremely unhappy and feel the need to share so others may avoid these expensive charges that will not be mentioned until AFTER the fact. As someone without dental insurance who has to pay for things out of pocket, it seems common sense to me that additional charges for things would be discussed PRIOR to work or scans/x-rays being done. Last year, at a regular cleaning, I had asked about getting a quote for an implant. The hygienist said "oh we can do the scan right now" had me walk into the room and do a 5 minute scan - no mention of a cost (I foolishly assumed just a quote would be free). You can imagine my surprise when I get to the front desk and am told that the cost for JUST the scans was over $400. I ended up signing up for their membership because those scans were conveniently included and it was cheaper that way - I still ended up paying $439 for that visit when I was expecting to pay less than $200. Two weeks ago I had called and was going to cancel my appointment that I had for today because I didn't want to pay for a cleaning right before the holidays, but was told my cleaning was free with my membership. So you can imagine my surprise AGAIN when I get to the front desk and am told that because they did x-rays (again, no mention of an additional cost or having a choice not to) that my total was $290! I explained that I was told over the phone this cleaning would be free but she told me my membership had expired in September. She gave me a slight discount and I left paying $211. I was going to let the first one slide because miscommunication happens but twice makes me feel like it's being done purposefully.

Fantastic experience: I recently broke a rather elderly crown from a lower molar. Fortunately, it wasn't painful, but obviously needed attention. Dr. Hicks and her staff were quick to assess the situation and explained the treatment options, including pricing, insurance coverage, etc. I'm also fortunate that my natural tooth was still sound and there was enough of it left to attach a brand new crown, so that's what she did. She was able to fabricate a new crown in about 20 minutes. I left the office with a new crown that bites perfectly. Couldn't be happier with Dr. Hicks and her staff--not only for this issue, but for all the care my family has received from them over the last 3-4 years. We live in southern Deschutes Co and it's worth the 50-minute drive!

On a very busy Friday after Christmas, I had a sudden inflammation around a tooth that wasn’t getting better. When I called their office with some questions about it, although very busy and with limited space due to technical difficulties on that day, Dr. Hicks made time to squeeze me in and make a prescription. I truly appreciate the wonderful service I receive at CO Dental Esthetics every single time! I had another experience that was amazing! Dr. Hicks removed one of my very old silver fillings and replaced it with white, due to a cracking tooth around the old filling. She did it with no numbing shots and absolutely no pain! And I was pleasantly surprised when she was finished more quickly than expected. Her assistant, Kaylee (sp?), was amazing as well. I highly recommend Central Oregon Dental Aesthetics!

Also I want to mention that the dentist and hygienist were able to diagnose a temperature sensitive tooth and used a type of tooth/root coating that eliminated the pain issue. Which was something new and different to me. A++ effort!

Fantastic experience: I am 67 yrs old. I just moved here from the Portland area and have lived in various cities in the surrounding areas. My mother was a Dental Hygienist. I've worked for a Dentist and have been in the medical field all my life and I have NEVER seen or experienced this type of service. All the staff members including the Dentist were very friendly, polite, accommodating and thorough. Down to the last detail...and "I'm a Perfectionist". There was not one DETAIL missed in my entire visit. :D I was amazed at the cleanliness but what shocked me the most was the "type of technology" that they have available to them to do an outstanding job for their patients!!! My teeth have never, never, ever been sooo clean. I highly, highly recommend going to this Dental Clinic. Do it just ONCE and you will NEVER go back to your regular Dentist. I can't say enough... She is friendly and warm in both settings, and truly a fun human being to work/talk to. I tell all my dental colleagues that she is a "well-rounded" dentist. Her professionalism is top notch all while making you feel like family and she has one of the best success rates (compared to other dentists I've worked with).
