I had some apprehension regarding such services due to some traumas I had earlier in life regarding some dentistry, but they made me feel really comfortable.

Experiencia negativa: One of the worst experiences I have had at the dentist. The hygienist was not easy during the cleaning. I felt the scraper dig into my gums multiple times. No narrating of care during the cleaning. It would be nice to explain what was going on and or what she was seeing. Then she was sounded very condescending about flossing. I have been a nurse for 25 years and I would never speak to my patients the way I was spoken to today. The dentist came in and basically threatened a crown if I didn’t stop grinding my teeth at night like I have a choice in the matter. Very disappointing. The front End staff was very nice and welcoming.

The dentist and the entire staff are knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely friendly. They have done outstanding work on my teeth, including crown placement, and the hygienist is equally thorough and skilled. The office is modern, well equipped with state of the art technology, and conveniently located in a new facility in Durham. I plan to continue all of my dental care with this practice and would highly recommend them to anyone seeking high quality dental treatment.

Experiencia fantástica: The entire staff, up to Dr. Imeni, are genuinely nice, helpful, and knowledge. My phone calls always get through, and whomever answered always spends time with me without acting rushed, or bothered. I make my living in customer service, and not too many businesses these days get it. These folks do. I had a very major procedure, and was likely overdue for it. They gently walked me through my myriad of questions, a lot of which I asked repeatedly because I was very trepidatious about it. I am, in fact, at home recovering this very moment. For something that invasive, I am in little to no pain so the medication is appropriate from the consumer standpoint, and they're briefed me in-depth about all of the recovery which will be several months. I never thought I would actually be able to get this done. I'm so happy. Special shout out to Maria who helped me get financed.

Experiencia fantástica: The Dental Assistant gave me some great advice on how to take care of my teeth. Flossing is difficult at times because of how bad my arthritis can be at times in my hands. She gave me something else to use which works great. She just had a nice personality and I was really pleased with her advice.

Experiencia negativa: I visited this facility after driving nearly two hours, feeling both nervous and excited to finally begin my dental treatment. The office itself is beautiful and welcoming, and the staff — including the dentist — were very kind. However, the financial process was extremely disappointing. Over the phone, the sales team collected my Social Security number and quoted pricing and payment options that were not accurate once I arrived. My credit was run three separate times, and although I was approved for $2,500 and $4,700, the actual procedure cost was $8,000. The “$99 a month” option I was originally told about was not true — the real payment would have been around $450 a month using two different financing companies, and I would still owe more on the back end. And almost 2,000 as a down payment. While the facility and staff were wonderful, the misleading financial information made it impossible for me to move forward. I’ve been trying to get dental work done for years, and the upfront costs continue to be a barrier. If anyone has recommendations for affordable or more transparent dental care options, I would greatly appreciate it.

Experiencia negativa: Called in to this office for the free consultation on implants, was estimated 20k for top and bottom, chewed on that price discussed it with my wife and locked in the appointment. Arrived at the appointment 30 mins early very clean office very welcoming! Staff were extremely friendly and respectful, met with the doctor was given the news that full implants were my only real option due to the damage to my teeth, ok kinda expected that. Inquired about dentures was advised I don’t want those because of the comfort, was escorted to finance office expecting to be around the 20k price point that I was estimated. Now mind you I expected the estimate to be short due to individual cost variance but when the young lady behind the desk slid a 47k estimate across the desk I instantly felt like I was fooled into coming there. All I’m saying is if you’re going to give estimates over the phone at least be in the ballpark. Oh and they are going to do a preliminary financing screening on you to see if your credit score is good enough for their financing, just a heads up you might pass that portion but when they get you the full screening expect different results. To be honest would have loved to have worked with this location just feel cheated by the extremely different price quotes.

Experiencia positiva: I usually have a pleasant experience, but this visit was very different. Cynthia was very friendly, but her techniques didn’t necessarily match what I expected. The ‘polishing’ process was applied first with minimal paste. Next was the cleaning process with the drill, but it was applied more aggressively than I was used to, often causing pain and uncomfortable pressure. When the rinse process was applied, the water splashed outside of my mouth and onto my face multiple times, causing her to have to wipe my face each time. Lastly, with the flossing process, the floss was jammed further into my gum than usual, causing her to ask if I got food stuck there often. The pain I experienced wasn’t so much from the flossing as it was from the aggressive force used at that particular point that caused the bleeding she referenced. When the saliva was cleared from my throat with the suction, the suction tool was often jammed around my mouth and close to the swallow area of my throat. After the flossing is when I am asked if I’d like the mint or fruit flavor, but that did not take place this time and there was no rinse. When I explained to the dentist that today’s session seemed more aggressive than I’m used to, Cynthia said she would schedule my next appointment with a different hygienist, yet she didn’t give me a follow up card or give me a chance to enter the appointment in my phone. She asked if I wanted a packet as if I had offended her with my feedback about her being aggressive, but I know I was frowning and wincing throughout most of the appointment so she shouldn’t have been surprised. If the order of service has changed from previous visits, that’s fine, but I would have thought that would have been explained as we went through the entire process. I had traumatic experiences with a dentist as a child and did not visit a dentist for many, many years. Today’s visit re-triggered that childhood trauma and did not leave me with the positive experience I had come to appreciate over the years.

The dentists, dentist assistants, and hygienists are incredibly kind, knowledgeable and professional. The front desk staff too! They've taken really good care of me. They explain everything very well; they don't judge; and they always put the patient first. I'm happy to say I'm no longer scared or super anxious about dentist appointments. Experiencia fantástica: My dentist for the past 15 years closed his Durham office and I was referred to Smile Design. I was sad to lose my hygienist who had been with me for many years. But imagine my smile when she called my name in the waiting area!!! I was so thrilled to know she would continue with me, as I’m not the biggest fan of change and have a little anxiety about going to the dentist. Let me tell you - this office is beautiful! I’m a Social Worker for the State, so I’m not used to such fancy places! It is modern, has advanced technology and is very clean and modern. The staff are just as kind and gentle. Their prices are good and although I have to have some more work done (clenching my jaw destroyed my crowns), I am very happy to have a great new dental provider.

Experiencia positiva: The place is beautiful, but the seats in the waiting area are WAY too low for the elderly and for those with mobility problems. It would be great to have at least two seats that are about average height so those with mobility issues can sit and get up without a struggle!

Experiencia fantástica: I am TERRIFIED of a dentist I get sick on my stomach just being in the parking lot..I went yesterday for my consultation and they were awesome with me they explained every step they were taking as they were taking the steps they explained what they were doing in full detail....the dentist himself was very polite, he has very very very good bed side manners , He took the time to show me the different things and explained my options that I have even though I cannot get the implants like I wanted but he was honest with me told me I just don't have the bone needed and he told me what would work better for my situation and the prices were reasonable with my situation I get better teeth...I recommend this dentist and his team 100%. I will post pictures when I get all of my work done and I have new teeth

The staff were very welcoming and were prompt calling me back. The information given was detailed. I appreciate knowing the details to make a decision that will impact me and impact how others see me. I met the doctor in the video yall! He is hands on and not hid behind a door. We went over my options and I really felt taken care of. I was able to see testimonials from actual patients. I also have not seen implants that look like actual teeth!! I was able to look and touch samples. My life is about to change because I have never felt so much a part of my process and important enough to be given “the truth”! I cried! I could feel the compassion from everyone. My trauma was going to be erased. I will have my smile back!! The smile that gave me confidence and strength.

One implant has a little tenderness around it while the other one has no tenderness or soreness; as though nothing had been done. I don't know how that's possible, but it feels healed. I had put off getting them for fear of the pain that I felt was sure to come.

After the root canal, I had a crown installed with the help of Dr. Dalia and Rea. They were both amazing, making the entire process smooth and comfortable. Experiencia negativa: This dental office is unrecognizable at the time of my recent visit in May 2025. When I booked my cleaning appointment, I had assumed that I would have the same dental hygienist, who was great in both skills and service. When I arrived for my appointment, a new hygienist was expecting me. I didn't enjoy the experience at all. She was rough around my teeth and asked me to hold the Saliva ejector myself, which is something I had never experienced. When it came to the flossing of my bridge tooth, she tried for 10-15 seconds with no success, and she simply gave it up. No dentist during this visit ever came to check on me, which is also highly unusual. And now, I'm simply praying all the tools for this dental appointment were sterilized.

The staff are warm and friendly with a commitment to excellence. There are massage chairs in the waiting room, serenity scenes cycling on tv screens in the room where you get treated, even the stylish orange logo of Smile Design against the white backdrop of the walls is refreshing. Cherry on top, Dr. Imeni is a brilliant dentist, having done such a superb job on my 73 year old mother’s surgery, that I started coming here and made him our family dentist.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a wonderful experience at Smile Design. Dr Imeni is very pleasant, kind, and thorough in his examination. I had some staining on my teeth from taking antibiotics, including doxycycline, and my dental hygienist, Megan, took the time to explain the cause and assured me she could remove it. She did an amazing job, and my teeth look so much better! The entire team was professional and welcoming. I highly recommend this office for top-quality dental care! The office is very clean, relaxing with massage chairs while waiting in the lobby! Thank you so much!
