The office staff and Dr. Jones were very welcoming and absolutely amazing, my initial consultation was great and mapped out what I needed done at a very fair price, the office is equipped with the most updated technology, and gorgeous on the inside! If you are looking to get a good amount of work done in one sitting this is the place to do it, I took the medications they prescribed, sat down with a blanket, and head phones with Jazz playing and fours hours later boom I was done! Thank you for being off you all!

They're always making sure I'm comfortable and provide a safe and calm atmosphere. I've been to dentists that make up problems that aren't real just to upcharge me and inflate their bills. This place has never once done that! They even sent a courtesy text when they were running a little behind... why don't ALL doctor offices do that?! I give this place all the thumbs up and gold stars! Highly recommend!!

The office is clean, staff is friendly and always willing to be of service. They do as early as 6:30am and have always been able to accommodate my schedule. It’s a rockstar crew over there! You won’t be disappointed.

Dr. Nelson and hygienists in the office give good advice and guidance without being pushy. Katherine and Marisela bring great energy when you walk in. They are always smiling and have a good sense of humor. Everyone looks good, and they take care of themselves. This makes me want to continue to take care of my health including my dental so that I can present well too. Staff is easy to talk to and I walk in there glad I chose Southtown because it’s clean. It’s the opposite of most of my dental experiences, where it feels like a task I have to begrudgingly get done. Couldn’t have chosen a better place.

Experiencia negativa: I visited Dr. Matthew Nelson in Summer 2024 for jaw pain, explaining my history with TMJ and previous successful orthotic therapy that helped me avoid surgery. Dr. Nelson assured me he could easily resolve my issue and create a new retainer. Unfortunately, this treatment has only worsened my jaw problems. What's most frustrating is that instead of referring me to a TMJ specialist when he recognized the complexity of my case, Dr. Nelson proceeded with treatment that was outside his scope of practice. This cost me $1000+ at his practice and has left me worse off than when I started. Additionally, the front desk staff has been consistently unprofessional. During my most recent call to schedule a follow-up, the receptionist was rude when I couldn't make their suggested appointment time due to work. After I said I'd check with my employer about time off and call back, she had already given my slot to someone else. If you're looking for basic dental work or Invisalign, this office may work for you. However, Dr. Nelson is not an orthodontist or TMJ specialist, despite what he may suggest. For complex cases like TMJ, I strongly recommend seeking treatment from an actual specialist rather than a general dentist who may be working outside their expertise. I wish I had been referred to the appropriate specialist from the beginning instead of spending money on ineffective treatment that made my condition worse.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Katherine helped coordinate my last minute appointment amazingly and Marisela got me checked out super quick and easy. Everyone working here is so kind and helpful. Experiencia fantástica: TLDR: 10/10 would recommend. 6 months ago I made an appointment here on a whim because it had been so long since I’d been to the dentist and they had open appointments. This has easily been the most comfortable dentist experience of my life. The people are so nice and really take the time to talk with you about any questions you may have - from the front desk back to the chair (which are also massage chairs love that) I’ve been super happy so far and definitely intend to keep coming back. Plus they didn’t shame or embarrass me when I told them how long it’s been since I’ve been to the dentist - they were like “that’s what we’re here for!” Which I know sounds super lame but I know that’s a universal dentist experience for a lot of us and a big reason I put off going back for so long hahaha

My dental hygienist, Blanca, is a 10/10 and was so genuine, caring and took time to explain everything about the process, what she was doing and why, asked my concerns, etc. Dr. Nelson took the time to ask questions just to get to know me outside my dental history. Experiencia fantástica: I didn’t go to the dentist for 8 years because I was extremely terrified of the dentist. I found Dr. Nelson and I am so thankful I found him and his team. For my first appointment after my initial consult I needed a deep cleaning, 2 fillings and 2 root canals. Dr. Nelson and his team explained the sedation process to me and I had all of that work done completely pain free and with no anxiety. When I was visiting family last summer I had to get one of my teeth extracted because I was in so much pain and wasn’t coming back to Scottsdale for a month and didn’t trust any other dentist to perform anything outside of the extraction. Today I had to get my dental implant put in with Dr Nelson and because of how great the team is I just did the laughing gas and it was a painless and stress free procedure. It’s nice to not be afraid of the dentist anymore! The team always explains the procedures, next steps and after care so I always know what is going on and what to expect. Dr Nelson and his team are awesome only thing I would change is that I wish I found them sooner!

His staff is always welcoming and friendly. They try and keep you with the same dental hygienist each visit, but if they don't, every lady is knowledgeable of your history and will make sure to address every concern you have. Dr Nelson is the first provider I've had who listens to me, and didn't see my 4 wisdom teeth and immediately say I needed extraction. Highly recommend his office to anyone looking for a dentist

The entire office made sure I felt comfortable and gave me ample reassurance throughout the entire procedure. They even helped me get multiple things done in one visit so I could to minimize my returns to a dental office—which I really appreciate. They gave me a blanket and noise cancelling headphones as well as a massage chair during my cleaning and procedures. They also offered sedation for my anxiety. They all seem to really want to hear you out, without judgement—something hard to find with dentists. Even though this was my first and so far only visit, I highly recommend them and will be returning!

Experiencia fantástica: I recently moved to the Phoenix area and was recommended to Dr. Matthew Nelson by my previous dentist. I am thoroughly appreciating and enjoying my new dentist and staff! I needed two crowns replaced and was able to get an appointment almost immediately. I now have two beautiful replacement crowns. Dr. Nelson's assistants are also very talented and enjoyable. It's a happy, positive office and my visits have been delightful!

Experiencia positiva: Matthew Nelson is the best dentist I’ve ever been to, all of his staff are polite and kind. For about two years he warned his clients that he would be dropping delta dental as in-network for professional reasons. These warnings always stated that the only change we would see is that we would have to pay upfront and our insurance would reimburse us. What the emails did not communicate is that insurance only ever pays a fraction of what the doctor bills them. In this new case, insurance pays the fraction they would always had paid before and you foot the remainder of the bill. In my case it was a surprise payment of >60% of the bill. From online research, I have found out of network dentist that do reimburse the portion back to clients, which is what I see as the only morally correct approach.

Experiencia fantástica: Everyone is so nice and professional! This was my first appointment so I really appreciated the fact that they didn’t try to sell me on any products. It made me feel more comfortable and at ease. Also, they have massage chairs while you get your teeth cleaned. Great experience for a dentist visit!

The young lady at the front desk gave me a tour of the office and the nurse who prepared me for my exam was awesome! She was sweet funny and professional, a pleasure to meet with. Finally as it came to a close, I met with Dr.Nelson who prepared me for my next visit! He was fast and efficient! I look forward to my next visit.

My experience over the last year getting my teeth straightened with Invisalign, made it perfectly clear why he consistently earns the Top Dentist in the Valley every year. Never thought I'd look forward to going to the dentist nor enjoy my Invisalign experience, but I truly did. First, the results happened so quickly! My teeth seemed to straighten in just 12 weeks wearing Invisalign. However, I stayed on the program for about 10 months, as Dr. Nelson insisted that my teeth should be perfectly aligned before I completed it. He also never charged me an extra penny even though I remained on the program for a couple months longer than Dr. Nelson had originally anticipated, which was actually all my fault for not always wearing the Invisalign-ers the recommended amount of hours every day. What I spent to straighten my teeth with Invisalign turned out to be an amazing investment, worth every penny. I finally could smile again without feeling self-conscious about my crooked teeth. I was also thrilled to learn that I could afford the entire cost of it thru my FSA. Before I chose Dr. Nelson and Southtown Dental Care, I had interviewed and received pricing from at least 6 dentists in the area. It turned out to be the right decision and best value working with Dr. Nelson and his team as they consistently over-delivered on service and on my results from start to finish. Finally, because I work long hours during the week, I appreciated that I could book my check-ups, fittings and cleanings as early as 6:30 am!! Even at that ridiculous hour, I NEVER had to wait more than a few minutes before any appt! I also appreciated that when I came in for my appointments, he and his team always worked thoroughly and efficiently, respecting my precious and limited time. Moreover, Dr. Nelson's team is warm, experienced and passionate about what they do. They always had big smiles and were so welcoming. That said, I would highly recommend this dental office for anyone looking to do general dental work and especially for Invisalign!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Nelson and the entire Southtown dental team are exceptional. The experience is flawless with seamless communication, flexibility, and a gentle touch. Do I floss enough? Of course not. Flossing sucks. Does the team of hygienist make me feel bad about it? Nope. They are encouraging with alternative solutions. My family has developed a genuine bond with these people and it never ceases to amaze me how well they know us. I highly recommend Southtown dental and of course… flossing ;)

Experiencia fantástica: Because I have anxiety of going to the dentist/doctor I was really nervous to go have some much needed dental work done. I am so happy I found this office from the reception to the doctor himself, everyone was kind and patient and cared so much if I was ok and taken care of. Once I let Dr. Nelson know I was nervous and my anxiety was high he made sure to tell me ever move he was making BEFORE he did it and while he worked which was super helpful. His assistant was very helpful as well and answered my many questions so patiently. Over all I would definitely recommend this office for anyone who maybe has any anxiety about dental work and needs someone kind and patient and understanding.

Experiencia fantástica: I saw Dr Nelson and met is wonderful staff recently. Brenda; his assistant took wonderful care of me. The office has all the best technology to use and gave me current information. I have over 25 years of being in the dental field and I am a post oral cancer person. I needed his opinion regarding going forward post cancer. Dr Nelson has a wonderful "bedside" persona and was very helpful giving me his professional opinion. The office has a very welcoming feeling to it and his wonderful, professional and warm receptionist; Katherine was so helpful and understanding. I will for sure go back for future care. Thank you very much. In an area as large as the Phoenix area, we were very lucky to have found Dr Nelson and his office.!

Experiencia fantástica: Let me just start by saying I have an irrational fear of the dentist and this Dentist went above and beyond to help ease my nerves. Coming from an office that would forget my appointments or disregard that I needed the same hygienist this was such a relief to find them. Dr. Nelson is extremely knowledgeable, patient and seems to actually care what your saying. Knowing what your doing is #1 for me and Dr. Nelson and his staff have that down! As I am filling out paperwork, on their comfy chair waiting room, I overhear some of the ladies working in the office talking to each other and giving compliments. It really felt like a family practice with how they all treated each other, extremely refreshing to say the least. I went into the office with pretty bad nerves but left feeling even better, now that is a 1st for me! My hygienist, Angie, was not only was patient with me by checking in while doing the cleaning but even gave compliments on how I was doing. I always appreciate that. The massage chair was great when she asked me and I was pleasantly surprised to find it relaxing and not as rough as the mail salon chairs. I am not entirely sure how they are not 5 whole stars but it must be a fluke because this office is everything and more than I wanted from a dentist office!

Experiencia fantástica: Went to Dr. Nelson in an emergency appointment—and he squeezed me in the same day—to have a lower, back molar extraction because my filling fell out (a while back) and my nerves were now exposed—I was in serious pain—no eating, no sleeping! The procedure was 100% PAIN FREE! I am not kidding—I did not even feel him numbing my gums with the needle. And Dr. Nelson had to remove some bone just to extract the tooth, and I could see my tooth was really a struggle to pull out, but he did it all with ZERO PAIN, ZERO DISCOMFORT to me. I’m sitting at home now, about 3 hours after the procedure, I took 2 Tylenol and I have no pain problems. So that says a lot! HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. NELSON! Now I’ve got to mention his assistant BRENDA! What an AMAZING, AWESOME, COMPASSIONATE WOMAN! From the moment I walked in the door, throughout the exam, x-rays, consultation, and procedure itself, Brenda was 100% supportive, knowledgeable, compassionate, understanding and COMFORTING TO ME, even though I was suffering from extreme, extreme anxiety from no sleep and tooth pain for 3 days straight! BRENDA IS 10 Stars!
