Experiencia fantástica: I was a patient at La Mesa Dental Artistry years ago, working with Dr. Rebecca Wachtel, Sarah, and the other amazing staff during what was a genuinely traumatic time in my life. I had lost several front teeth and needed implants, and Dr. Wachtel handled the whole process with such warmth and compassion that it made an overwhelming situation feel manageable. She clearly cared about getting the outcome right — not just functionally, but in a way that restored my confidence. Dr. Wachtel has since moved on, and the staff from my time there has likely turned over completely — but what impressed me recently is that the current team was just as wonderful. When I reached out years later needing help obtaining my old records for an ongoing medical case, they were responsive, helpful, and went out of their way to assist me without hesitation. That kind of continuity of care and genuine helpfulness — even for a patient from years ago with a completely different team — says a lot about the culture this practice has maintained. Highly recommend.

Alongside such a positive atmosphere. A special thanks to the front desk, I have a tough schedule to work around but they were very accommodating on getting me in 2 months earlier than expected. 10/10 for me.

Experiencia negativa: This review will state only the objective/honest facts of my experience with Dr Simpson. Based on those, feel free to make your individual choices and decisions. This is simply a communication of some very important information for existing and/or future patients. Fact: I visited Dr Simpson's office for a routine cleaning, at which time I had a clear, straightforward conversation with the hygienist re the necessity to be careful when cleaning my bottom front teeth since they were bonded. She was 100% aware of the bonding prior to starting the procedure. Fact: In the evening of the same day I felt some sensitivity on one of my bottom front teeth and upon checking, noticed there was a chip/gap on the inside edge of one tooth which did not exist prior to the cleaning. Fact: First thing the next morning I made an appointment to be seen that afternoon. Fact: At the appointment Dr Simpson's demeanor was immediately "odd" - not at all helpful, caring or concerned about the incident and accidental damage that occurred during the cleaning. No effort was made to look at the tooth until I requested it. At that point, I became very confused, as I didn't understand the reason for his demeanor....and then suddently it all clicked: Dr S told me that the cleaning records indicated the tooth was already damaged PRIOR to the cleaning. Since this was a complete untruth I attempted to communicate the conversation as it occurred between myself and the hygienist at which point I was accused of being "combative". He then told me I needed to find another dentist since he didn't feel comfortable treating me any longer. Fact: No effort or offer whatsoever was made to rectify the damage. I went to another (great) dentist and paid $450 OOP to have the tooth repaired. Fact: I have been to numerous dental professionals for over 45 years: dentists,orthodontists, periodontists, oral surgeons and never have I encountered a dentist that even came close to talking or treating me as Dr Simpson did. Fact: This was an extremely unpleasant, unsettling and costly experience. However, in retrospect it was very informative. I received all the information I needed based on Dr Simpson's behavior and business practice to know that I never wanted anything to do with him again..."blessing in disguise' as they say. On a positive note, I'll say that both the front office staff and dental assistant were professional, caring and helpful.

Experiencia fantástica: Best dentist I have been to.... Dr. Simpson is a perfectionist. His shots are careful and to me, virtually pain free. His finish work is the best I have had. So far he has done three crowns and all of them look perfect. His hygienist is a lot like him. A perfectionist who seems to know what I need without asking. His dental assistant is kind, careful and gentle. The front office is friendly, courteous and professional. All in all, if you are looking for a next level dentist office, this is the best I have found.

Experiencia fantástica: Arrived an hour early for my appointment due to a mix-up on my part. Was unable to wait as it would then cause me to miss my next appointment for that day. Was going to reschedule but my Dental Hygienist, Daniela, is an amazing person who rescheduled her own lunch to fit me in at the time I arrived. There was no requirement on her end to do this as I was a new patient, and the error was 100% on my end, but she did and I am grateful. My dental cleaning went smoothly and Daniela did a great job. My doctor was Dr. Simpson and he was friendly and thorough in my dental exam. The receptionist was also welcoming, friendly, and understanding of the mistake I had made on my arrival time. The rooms were clean, well maintained, and overall I felt very comfortable there. I will be returning and they will be my Dental office for the remainder of my time in San Diego.

Experiencia fantástica: From the moment I arrived till I left I don't think I've ever felt more taken care of. The receptionist that greeted me was wonderful, the hygienist that got me situated was fantastic, and Dr. Simpsons level of detail was was absolutely outstanding. He took his time with me, and really went over my treatment plan letting me know what I could wait on, and what needed immediate attention. I knew right away it had nothing to do with the money, and he really cared about me, and I how I felt. I'll never go anywhere else, what a fantastic dentist!

Experiencia negativa: Great front office staff and dental assistants. However, I had a terrible experience. During my first visit, Dr. Grant Simpson told me I needed three crowns and a filling (none of which were mentioned by my previous dentist who I saw just six months earlier). I had one crown done by Dr. Simpson and shortly after started experiencing severe pain and sensitivity. I mentioned this to him and he told me it would go away. When it didn’t, I scheduled and attended two follow-up appointments where I felt like he barely examined my teeth and then told me nothing was wrong. Remind you, this is severe pain. Out of desperation, I visited another dentist who diagnosed the problem in five minutes with one photo and one X-ray. There was a large hole in the tooth beside the one that received the crown. The new dentist said this was an injury that could only have been caused by the crown procedure. When I called Dr. Simpson, he denied any responsibility and only offered me a fraction of the cost of the crown. To boot, I am having a lot of issues with the crown itself and it will probably have to be replaced.

Experiencia fantástica: Short version: I really feel very comfortable and taken care of at this office. Everyone on the team is awesome and contributes to a very welcoming environment. Long version: I took poor care of my dental health and failed to create healthy habits from a young age. I spend the years going through a cycle of starting to see a dentist only to get burned and discouraged and stop going. I was very lucky to find this team of awesome, kind and trustworthy people who have helped me overcome a lot of discomfort about dentist visits and consequently crated the longest and most consistent investment I've made in my efforts to build healthy dental habits. I would highly recommend Dr. Simpson for his honest and thoughtful approach to create optimistic treatment plans. I also want to recognize the team that supports him because everyone, from the front desk to the team in the back, are just really kind and considerate people who make the visits very pleasant. Experiencia fantástica: Everybody was so incredibly kind. My two front crowns on the top were broken off, and I walked in there looking like Gollum. They put two temporaries on while my insurance is processing for the next 3 weeks. I can’t fully express how much that meant to me. Thank you ❤️

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Simpson and his staff are the best. They are all so nice. I usually have to take my children to my appointments and they are never annoyed by them. Dr. Simpson cares about the work he puts out and has attention to detail. My front crown broke off and he made sure my new one looked as natural as possible! The hygienist does a great job with cleanings, even with my braces on!

Experiencia negativa: The hygienists are great and taught me some new strategies to keep my teeth in better condition. Unfortunately, both visits I had for cleaning two separate dentists seemed pushy for getting extra work done. I had a very small chip in my front tooth. Both dentists were pushing for veneers instead of a simple bond. I felt like they were trying to upsell me on cosmetic work. They also wanted to remove my wisdom teeth which to be fair I will probably need to do eventually. I got a second opinion from my dentist back home and he told me to keep them clean. He also shook his head over them saying I need veneers. The dentists felt like salespeople who just wanted me to spend money and not take into account what I actually needed. I won’t be going back after giving them two chances.

Experiencia negativa: I went in for an extraction and they broke my crown on a neighboring tooth. Then quoted me a high rate to fix it. I was also in so much pain after the extraction, for longer than expected, and was told to try ibuprofen. The amount of pain made work and eating and basic functions a nightmare for 2 weeks. When I reached out to them about fixing the crown thy broke I was signor. I still never heard back after repeated contact attempts. After all this, during my checkup, the dentist was trying hard to upsell me on braces and other dental upgrades.

Experiencia negativa: I went to La Mesa Dental Artistry in July of 2019. What wa ms supposed to be a routine cleaning turned into being told “you need crowns on 9 of your teeth and I won’t be willing to do the cleaning until we get started on those.” I was too naïve to seek a second opinion so I financed getting 4 of the 9 crowns. Since getting them, I’ve had to have one recemented twice now (a third time on the way as it just came off tonight AGAIN) and the last dentist that recemented it informed me that too much of my natural tooth was taken away. This has cost me a ridiculous amount of money and I’m probably going to end up getting my tooth pulled now.

Experiencia fantástica: Erin did my teeth cleaning recently. Best teeth cleaning I've ever had! She worked miracles, removing all my stains. She worked so fast, I didn't even realize she was done until I was told. She also answered all my many, many questions and was really sweet and informative. Considering at this moment I am drinking black tea again, I will definitely be back!

Experiencia positiva: The staff was friendly and Kristy is so full of energy, it was very comforting to my little guy, 6yo. The only issue is their parking, your not instructed where to park and if you happen to park in the lot adjacent to their building, DO NOT, the dentist, Wehrle, will literally bully and yell at you and threaten to have your car towed even when there are no customers in their lot or business. Goodness forbid that it was a honest mistake OR that you have a small child. They will yell and bully over empty asphalt!! Beware of the Wehrle dental group! La Mesa dentist artistry was fabulous!

Experiencia fantástica: I have been a patient of La Mesa Dental Artistry since I moved to San Diego in 2012. I have undergone cavities (less over time with their guidance on how to floss), a gum graft and regular bi-annual cleanings/x-rays. They have also fit and created 2 of my mouth guards and a lower retainer. I have felt in good hands since day one. Dr. Grant Simpson is gentle and thorough. He listens intently and outlines his diagnosis and recommendations easily. Every hygienist I have been taken care of over the years have been fantastic, more recently Sarah and Christine. They are thorough and offer teachable moments when necessary. Danielle is also extremely helpful. She responded promptly when I had to dial their emergency line. I received a call back within the hour after the office was closed. The dentist is not necessarily something I found exciting in the past, but I feel home at La Mesa Dental Artistry and look forward to going into the office. Thanks everybody sincerely!

Experiencia fantástica: The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. In my experience, I noticed that they have a high focus on preventing gum disease and maintaining good dental health. The dental hygienist are nice to talk to. They are also gentle yet thorough when they did my teeth cleaning. Dr Simpson worked on my cavity and it was a smooth procedure. He also asked if i wanted to see an orthodontist to help with fixing my bite. I said yes and he wrote me a referral letter. Ive been to this dentist for a total of three or four times and each time they go over my progression and what to do to maintain good dental hygiene. Experiencia fantástica: I only started going to La Mesa Dental Artistry earlier this month, but I will never go anywhere else as long as I live in the San Diego area. I was able to get in for my initial appointment on a cancellation and I was so lucky to get in when I did because I was told they were booked out until July (which was a good sign to me). My hygienist was Erin and she was absolutely amazing. I had not been to a dentist in many, many years, but Erin made everything so easy and pain free. After my preliminary exam, I met Dr. Simpson who was just as amazing. He explained everything to me, laid out our plan, and I honestly couldn’t wait to get back in there. I had a deep cleaning and fillings booked for July but asked to be put on a cancellation list since I live very close. My first exam was Monday and by the following Monday, I was called for a same day cancellation that I jumped on (Kristine was my hygienist this time and she is so amazing too). And then by another stroke of luck, I received another call today offering a cancelled spot and obviously I took that as well. Everyone on their team is so amazing and wonderful, and they are very transparent about pricing. I am so lucky that a quick Yelp search brought me to this amazing dental office. I will likely be moving to North County within the next few months but that will not stop me from making the drive because they are absolutely worth it! I apologize for the long, rambling review, but they really deserve the praise.

Experiencia fantástica: I was looking for a 3rd opinion Invisalign consult and this office was highly recommended by a coworker. I decided to chance it off her recommendation and schedule a new patient visit to include cleaning. I had high hopes and my expectations were exceeded! The staff was very kind and helpful from the moment I scheduled, then had to reschedule the appt. The hygienist (unfortunately I don't remember her name) was wonderful and thorough in her explanation on what was going to happen during my new patient visit. Dr Simpson sat down and really took time in answering my questions. Really nice to not feel rushed despite being a bit late due to getting lost. This was also the first time in many years I've had a dental visit that I didn't feel pressured to make a purchase or do some type of dental work. I am in healthcare myself and I can't say enough positive things about his bedside manner. His care felt honest with the patient being priority. A+ establishment, so glad I found this office.

I'd consider myself a bad dental patient and I'm nervous in the dentist chair. The whole crew at La Mesa Dental Artistry was great. Not only were they great with the crown removal and replacement, they did a cleaning and full exam while I was there. The whole family will be moving over to La Mesa Dental Artistry.
